First off, thank you Tonya Coffey for creating a powerful fantasy in an age appropriate environment for younger readers and keeping it alive and captivating for their far-seeking imaginations!

Jessa has always lived in a remote area with her dad. Both love the freedom of the outdoors and the earth beneath their feet, but at almost eighteen, her life will take on huge changes, just not the changes she was expecting! An ancient tome will be the catalyst for dreams that serve as guides into a realm where she feels like both an outsider and as if she has finally come home. Jessa has discovered the world of the Faery realm and she is their long lost queen come home to take both her crown and save her people from the dark evil wishing to stamp out the light of the Faery World.

Jessa is almost angst-free, rarely whiny and as is able to roll with the emotional punches quite well. Only in the heart of youth can determination and attitude convince one girl far from all she has known to assume the mantel chosen for her long before her birth. There is a bit of a love non-triangle, but it actually felt very realistic. Do you remember when you thought you really liked someone only to find that you also kind of like his best friend? Did everyone have the honor and grace to step back the way Micha does for his best friend Roderick?

Tonya Coffey has aced the teen persona and filled these kids with a belly full of the fire of youth. Fast paced, filled with the prefect amount of detail, there is no slogging through each scene, but rather they jump out with a sense of magic and vibrant color. Let your child feel like a brave warrior or princess, because you know they will live along these characters through every page. Read it yourself and tell me you didn't feel like you were there, mesmerized by the magical, the danger and a young woman forced to come of age in a world she never knew existed! Fun, fast and furious with some serious sides along the way, once again, thank you Tonya Coffey for giving younger readers the opportunity to fall in love with the magic of reading.

I received this copy from Tonya Coffey in exchange for my honest review.

Adorable :) I really enjoyed this story despite it being for a younger audience. This story really is designed for the younger reader with a sweet fairy tale feel and magic creatures as well. A young woman's journey into the magical world is one the young reader can find themselves immersed in and journey with Jessa not just watch from the sidelines. A clean read that I think would work for any audience but I really feel the younger readers will love it the best.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Jess is a young woman who finds herself in the land of Faeries. Though she loves to read and she is strong, the responsibilities may prove to be a hardship for her, not to mention the love interests. I liked the story; it could easily appeal to a younger crowd as also I liked Jess's ability to walk through dreams. The story was enchanting and a nice read.

I was given this book in exchange for a review:
The story itself was good and the characters were likeable though I would have liked them to have more depth as well as the new world. Also at times things seemed to move a little too fast and jumped around a little bit. But the twist at the ending really brought something unique to the story and I look forward to reading the next book mainly to see how it plays out. I would recommend it for anyone who likes fantasy or fairytales.

A fantasy spin on a very familiar formula, Harvest Moon was definitely oriented for younger audiences.

The woods draw her, but she can’t figure out why. It all starts with a book that calls to her. Then wolves. From there, Jess finds out that her entire life has been a lie. Now safely sequestered away with fairies, Jess has many decisions to make—and a kingdom to run.

Harvest Moon followed almost every young adult trope to an absolute T. To name a short few: a young girl hidden away only to discover she was a princess from another land. A love triangle quite e in which she must choose between her heart and her duty (I’ll talk more about that in a minute). Unseen magical powers that she managed to harness almost immediately. And, of course, she was super powerful. Once again, a very obvious, very familiar formula. Fans of YA books like that would be delighted, I think.

Now, onto the love story.

I liked the dichotomy the author presented with “follow your heart” and “a queen must do her duty.” Sure, it led to a love triangle, but whatever. Unfortunately, the initial love story was presented in a creepy way that made me cringe and wonder just what Jess was thinking. While I think it was probably crucial to her development, the way things progressed just left me not feeling it. I think it was more of the way that she forced herself to comply, even though she clearly did not want anything to do with him romantically. Platonically, as if he were her sworn bodyguard or something, things would have felt much more natural, I think. The trope might work for some people, but it didn’t work for me.

I liked her relationship with her dad very much. Her origins were from a loving family rather than a broken one, which I feel like is another common theme in many young adult novels. Thankfully, Harvest Moon managed to deviate from that.

The writing style needed a little more help with description. I think there was quite a bit that could be improved with the narrative in general with some extra time spent on editing. Dialogue was clunky and awkward in some places and just didn’t flow the way it needed to. Things felt rushed once she crossed over into the world of fairies. I don’t think that helped my feelings on the love story.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my review in any way and the thoughts expressed are my own.

I went into this book knowing very little about the actual plot, but I found this a fun approach. Usually, I’ve read the back to know if I’m interested before I decide to read any book. It begins with a young girl named Jessa about to turn eighteen. She lives on the edge of a mountain in a beautiful forest. Her house and its surrounds are beautiful. I’d love to live there! For her entire life, her father has told her on her eighteenth birthday she will meet people and see places she could never have imagined. That’s a lot of pressure to put on one birthday. But it lives up to his expectations.

Jessa has always had vivid dreams about things she’s never seen. One such dream leads her to a place in the forest where she is taken away to another realm. Jessa discovers she’s really the princess of a Faerie kingdom with a great prophecy about her birth and her future. Not to mention that she’s betrothed to the handsome warrior Roderick. The responsibilities and expectations of her new life are hard for Jessa to deal with, especially the fact that she’s supposed to marry a man she only just met. I like how realistic her reaction was, instead of suddenly being head over heels for a stranger.

It was interesting to watch Jessa and Roderick’s relationship evolve under the pressures of the kingdom’s expectations. It was said that their magical powers would be tenfold once they were united. Saying it’s an awkward start to a relationship would be an understatement. Jessa can see how much Roderick cares for her but she just can’t seem to feel the same level of love he does. But Jessa is trying her best to uphold her duties. I feel particularly sorry for Jessa since she’s never dated anyone before then here comes this council who tells her she’s supposed to jump into bed with a stranger. Sure he’s a nice guy and everything, but having to deal with a new world, becoming a queen and discovering magical powers would be hard enough let alone having an arranged marriage at eighteen.

Right away I was sucked into this novel. I found myself reading it late into the night. It was sparse on description; the main twists were easy to see coming and the events were quickly resolved. For instance, every fight was instantly finished whenever Jessa used her magic. Though, when you look at the fact that she’s supposed to be the prophesied queen of the Faeries with powerful magic, it kind of makes sense. Those were a few things that bothered but I still found it very enjoyable. The chapter length was nice and short which was just the confidence builder anyone needs. I give it 4/5.

Book 1 Harvest Moon by Tonya Coffey
Publisher : Saguaro Books

First off, I would like to thank Tonya Coffey for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Jessa and her dad live in a remote area in the mountains of Kentucky close by a national forest.
The night Jessa’s mom gave birth to her, she died, leaving her father to take care of her. Jessa will be turning 18 in a couple of days and her dad buys her an old trunk that she wants from a yard sale for her birthday. In it she finds an old leather bound book titled; Myths & Other Legends, and thats when things begin to happen.
She finds out that the Faeries need her to come home to White Lily and save them from the Trolls. Jessa is to be queen of the faeries, and to marry Roderick, the man who saved her from the Trolls. But she keeps having feelings and all she wants to do is run away with his best friend, Micha.
I was hooked on this book right from the beginning, it was a quick and easy read. It is a fantasy novel, about faeries, trolls and magic. I would highly recommend this book and I give it 5 stars! I can’t wait to start the next book in the series , Snow Moon.

Harvest Moon: A New World Book by Tonya Coffey is a very enjoyable middle-grade fantasy novel. It’s a coming of age tale about an isolated, forest-dwelling teenage girl, Jessa, who unbeknownst to her is destined to become a Faerie Queen in the kingdom of White Lily where the Faeries are at war with the Trolls.

Coffey is careful to establish her own mythology in her descriptions of the Faeries and Trolls, pointing out that the world she has created is singularly her vision and not that of others.
Coffey’s descriptions of the forest have a convincing ring of naturalistic truth. It aroused my own memories of walking alone in the forest, the sounds and scents, the air and the dust. Her descriptions of Magick are simply told and direct. It was easy to use my imagination and visualize the things she described.

During the story she learns many things about her life that had been deliberately hidden from her by her father. Once in White Lily her heritage is revealed. She is expected to marry a Faerie whom the Elders appointed as her protector, but her heart is attracted to another.
During the crucible of battle with the Trolls and Ancient Ones Jessa discovers that she has amazing Magickal powers that make a critical difference in the outcome. Her challenges do not end there. The Trolls and the Ancient Ones are determined to destroy White Lily and constantly seek new ways to accomplish that end. Jessa must decide who she is: a young woman without cares or a Queen which must care for her people.

The story is very enjoyable and I cared a great deal about the primary characters as well as some of the smaller roles. It’s appropriate for younger readers and should please fans of fantasy as well. The ending promises that the story is not yet over and indeed there are three more books that follow.

Book Name: A New World
1st book in the series:Harvest Moon
Author: Tanya Coffey
Genere: Fiction

Review:
'A New World' is a story full of fantasies, magic and love. The story revolves around a girl named 'Jessa Slipper', who is the main character of the story. She always had dreams whenever she fall asleep, dreams that are strange, ridiculous and hard to believe. The story begins with her realising that her dreams want to convey something. She starts following the way her dreams led her to and finding the truth behind her dreams.

The story is engaging and interesting. The title'A New World' justifies the story as Jessa's dreams led her into a new world, which is totally different from human world. She finds a new world, a world of fairies, magic, king and queen. Story is narrated elegantly, narrator has power to take readers to a world of fantasy. Characters are introduced beautifully. At some points, story bores the readers when author go in-depth detailing of plots and incidents. But the curiosity to find 'what next' never ends and binds the readers to the story.

'A New World' is a good pick for fiction lovers and for those who want a break from their routine and want to get lost in a new world.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review:

I was pleasantly surprised by Harvest Moon. It provides everything that you's expect for a "Changeling Fantasy": The young woman that finds that she has a great destiny before her, the hideous enemies that she must battle, and the love triangle with two inexplicably manly men. Yet there was enough to distinguish it from the pack without losing potential readers that like that subgenre (and I am one). As always, I will break the book down into pros and cons.

Pro: The plot and character development is rock solid. Jessa, while not quite on a Katniss or Cassie Sullivan level, shows growth and a good amount of inner strength. Micha, one of the love interests, doesn't quite go through character transformation. Rather the depth of his character is revealed as the story goes on. Most of the other characters are plot devices or catalysts to help Jessa reach her transformation from innocent to hero.

Harvest Moon uses the classic tropes of the genre, meaning that it hits all the right notes that the reader expects. It doesn't try too hard to experiment with form or try to get too clever for its own good. The story is what matters, and the author understands and sticks with that. In addition, she uses the "dream visions" and "prophesy" tropes well. Only at one point near the end does the dream vision become a slick way to provide a plot escape, but that's forgivable.

Cons: The love triangle is predictable, and the characters rather dull. Their personalities are spelled out right away: the super manly Roderick (notice the growling syllables, the word "rod", and the hard k at the end, all enforcing that he's a manly man of manly manliness. Compare to Micha, who has a softer, more exotic and complex name. I knew right away what was going to happen with the triangle, and since the prophecy is connected, that causes a plot issue.

The world is a bit vague, and I found myself filling in blanks in the world. I wanted more detail and found none.

Conclusion: If you know what you like, this is a perfect book for you. If you're looking for something that diverts from the mainstream Changeling Fantasy, you'll find it predictable.

I know what I like, and this is a fine addition to the genre.

Harvest Moon is a fine book for lovers of the fairies, pixies, trolls, and elves. Along with being a well-written, descriptive fantasy, it is also a coming of age story. The main character, Jess, searches for her real place in the world.
At times, particularly towards the middle the plot was a little confusing or rushed. But all in all, it held my interest and had a satisfying ending. I’d recommend it as a good read aloud book for 8 to 11 year olds.

I got to read this book as part of a review swap Tonya agreed to do, and when I got it, I already had 4 books ahead of hers on my TBR. But somehow, I decided to skip the 4 others and starts hers right away. Now I am not the biggest reader of fantasy (last I read was Harry Potter, about 9 years ago) and I am not one to read series either, but I loved this book! I read it so fast, I just couldn't put it down. Now there might be some missing stuff concerning the characters and the location that could have been developed a little more, but the story flew so smoothly and got me hooked right away. I liked that I found answers to the questions that popped into my mind while reading, a few chapters later, and each time I was like "ahhhh, so that's why that happened". Even though the general story might seem like a YA, with your typical love storyline, and that older audience might feel it's more directed towards younger readers, I enjoyed the simplicity in some parts, because they were counterbalanced with complexity in others. And as a whole, I liked that it was a "simple" read, I enjoyed it, I LOVED the twist at the end, especially that I was kind of hoping for something similar all along the read, and I would love to read the next books of the series.

Is Harvest Moon appropriate reading material for a 9 year old girl? Yes
White Lily —a region where Faeries live—is a place where I would feel safe (as a mom) giving my child freedom to explore the joy of reading.

Harvest Moon is about a young woman’s search for her place in the world. Jessa learns that her true place is queen of White Lily. Once there, she finds that the expectations and responsibilities that come with the job cause feelings of dread and uncertainty. Her world is at war, she must marry a man she barely knows and she has to sort through a confusing attraction to someone other than the king-to-be. The personal relationship aspect of the story is a main focus of the tale. Jessa’s lesson is to learn to trust her own heart. An interesting of her character is her ability to Dream Walk. This is like fly-on-the-wall psychic spying in real time.

I have a 9 year old son. I don’t really know if the reading material for a girl is significantly different from what boys read. At this age….it may very well may be. Authors that my son has read include; J.K. Rowling, Richard Riordan, Cornelia Funke and Chris D’Lacey and Holly Webb. Most all of these books involve magic, monsters and have tiny hints of romance. Harvest Moon has similar themes running through it. If I were to choose one author that Coffey’s work most resembles, it would the Animal Magic series by Holly Webb.

There were key elements in the story that went whizzing by—leaving me thinking that I’d missed something. Perhaps these will be group discussion topics for the end of the book, or things that Coffey is planning to develop further in Harvest Moon book 2.

If I had a 9 year old daughter, would I let her go see Harvest Moon if it were a movie? Yes
It would be rated G. The violence is minimal and there is no bad language, drug use, nudity or sex. There is hand holding and kissing. The main characters spend one night together where a baby might have been a possible outcome…but it is not explicit.

Would Harvest Moon make a good illustrated children’s’ story? Yes
The imagery is fanciful, nature oriented, and innocent. It has a few scary monsters and a wedding scene where Faeries weave flowers into the bride’s hair. The town where they live reminded me of a Thomas Kinkade painting.

The ending was not what you’ll expect—it is a responsible surprise.

Jessa “Jess” & her Dad lived close by the Daniel Boone National Forest.
Yrs. ago the house had burned down the night Jess was born & her Mom had died giving birth to her.
At a yardsale Jess’ Dad had found/bought a old trunk for her.
In it she found a leather bound book titled: Myths & other Legends.
For 10 yrs. the Ancients & the Sylphs had been at war. Sylphs had won.
Fairies were a advanced race known as the Elementals. They produce magic powers.
Fairies are also related Pixies, Trolls & Elves. They also have a good & evil side known as the Sidhe.

Things took a turn & later Roderick (Guardian) explained to Jess’ what had happened to her & her father.
She is now Queen Jessa (Princess) of White Lily & leader of the Fairies. Her job is to protect them from the Trolls.
The Trolls also want Jess to be their Queen.
Queen Jessa met with John (head Elder) & the other council members.
Micha was introduced to her.
Roderick is now Jessa’s fiancée & will lead the Warriors (fairies) into battle against the Trolls.
Queen Jessa (aka Lady Slipper) met with Romulus about reading her future dreams.
She will now do some Dream Walking.

Why did Micha (Warrior) & Roderick meet?
What does Queen Jessa’s future hold for her?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written fantasy book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great fantasy movie, animated cartoon, or a mini TV series. HS age. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

I received a copy of Harvest Moon from the Author for Review Purposes. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

This story is designed for the younger reader with a sweet fairy tale feel. Jessa is a young woman who finds herself in the land of Faeries. Though she loves to read and she is strong, the responsibilities may prove to be a hardship for her. I liked the story; it could easily appeal to a younger crowd The story was enchanting and a nice read. Also at times things seemed to move a little too fast and jumped around a little bit.

Harvest Moon followed almost every young adult trope to an absolute T. To name a few: a young girl hidden away only to discover she was a princess from another land. A love triangle in which she must choose between her heart and her duty. Unseen magical powers that she managed to harness almost immediately. And, of course, she was super powerful. I wasn’t very fond of the Love Triangle or the Romance at all. Unfortunately, the initial love story was presented in a creepy way that made me cringe and wonder just what Jessa was thinking. While I think it was probably crucial to her development, the way things progressed just left me not feeling it and the Romance felt very rushed.

Jessa lives with her father where they connect with nature. But she has been plagued with dreams and finds herself meeting a wolf who turns out to be her savior. On Jessa’s eighteenth birthday she learns that she is actually a queen from the Faery realm. From this point forward Jessa is on a break neck pace to learn how to use her power, rule the kingdom, and learn to love her soon to be husband although she finds herself liking his friend too. And if that was not enough then there are the trolls and darkness that are trying to take over. Jessa needs to stop that from happening.

Jessa is a great character. She is not the typical angst filled teen. She has strange dreams that actually lead into a really great ability. Then there is the whole surprise about being queen, here’s your king, and save the kingdom. This happened so fast that I’m impressed that Jessa didn’t freak out sooner for a lot longer.

This is a great story for mid-grade readers and young adults. Although there is romance it is very light and the fighting is pretty mild. It is a wonderful fantasy story and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book Snow Moon.

*I received a copy of this story from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Once I started reading this story, I was sucked in a couldn't stop, didn't want to stop. The story line is intriguing and I needed to know what was going to happen. There were some twists and turns and an interesting way to tell the story that grasp at you.

The details and descriptions were very well written. It was easy to read and flowed very well. The characters, in my opinion, were developed well and were enjoyable to read. It was easy to picture them while reading and picture in my mind as I read through scene after scene.

This story was exciting to read and it was a pretty quick read. I could suggest the story to you if you enjoy fantasy reads. This was kind of a new take for me for fantasy stories and I loved reading it.

Harvest Moon is a book filled with fantastic creatures, super powers and magical worlds. It is an extremely fast-paced novel that covers romance and love triangles, personal growth, action and mystery.
The story is very well thought out and built up, and it goes on at an extremely fast pace. Sometimes I wished there was some more detail and context, and that's the reason why I gave it four instead of five stars.
I think this book will be great for people who are into fantasy and action, but at the same time want a light read. This is the type of book you can easily manage to read in a day or two, leaving you asking for more at the end.
TALKING ABOUT THAT ENDING (spoiler free) THAT WAS SO GOOD.
Tonya took a great decision in those last four pages to make the book end the way she made it end.
Can't wait to read the next book in this series, I really hope it is out soon!

A world of magic, trolls, fairies and wonder; Harvest Moon captivated a deep part of me that believes, maybe, just maybe the nature around us holds more than what we know and see. Harvest Moon is a great read filled with well described characters and surroundings. The author did a beautiful job being detail oriented. The plot moved a little quick, and the fickleness of the heroine, Jess, made it a tad difficult to understand the storyline; nonetheless it added to the whirlwind of emotions felt by the characters and the status of their dilemmas. With battles raging left and right, time was of the essence to release the hidden powers of the chosen to bring harmony among their people. Overall, I loved it and I'm promptly reading the second to see what happens next!

Harvest Moon is a delightful fantasy read for lovers of the fairies and the supernatural. The author did a wonderful job in creating a fantastical fairy world right underneath our noses. The descriptive writing and lovable characters draw you in immediately. Jessa is sweet and naive and the love story that blossoms as she discovers her destiny is perfect for a young adult audience. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series to find out what will happen next for Jessa!

A great read, especially for middle grade ages. It is full of faeries, sylphs, and trolls. It is a sweet tale of a faery princess turned queen that was hidden in the human realm until her 18th birthday when she would come into her powers, take a husband to be king and fulfill the prophecy of saving the faery realm. She learns what love is and how to accept it as well as give it.

Like everything she is learning, she comes to realize that though things are planned doesn’t mean they are correct. But, when the evil Trolls attack will Jessa be able to accept who she is to save her people or will she let the enemies conquer her new world?

I really enjoyed this start to a new fantasy series. The characters were wonderfully created and the idea of this world being just out of sight of the real world added a level of real possibility. The reader is put in Jessa’s shoes as she learns about her new world. But, I think some of the best storytelling is between her, Roderick and Micha. Their relationship, though complex is written well with a natural development. Overall, anyone who enjoys stories with faeries, trolls and kingdoms you will want to dive into this series.

Harvest Moon is an exciting story filled with the joys of life and the heartache that comes with it. Jessa shows us to follow our hearts and never stand for what we don't believe in.
