George Muller's life didn't have a promising start. By the age of sixteen, he had learned to lie, steal, drink and gamble and his future looked bleak - but God had other plans!
After conversion, Muller's life became a vivid demonstration of faith in action. Praying in every penny of the costs and refusing at any time to ask for financial help from anyone but God, Muller supervised the building of three large orphanages housing thousands of children. He was more successful than anyone could have imagined.
Muller's hard work for the cause of Christ and on behalf of orphans, his commitment to their care and his example of faith in action inspired his generation and will do the same today.
A gripping and astonishing story that will challenge young readers to really trust God as Muller did.
Irene Howat is an award-winning author who has many titles, for adults and children, to her name. She is married to a retired minister and they have a grown up family. She is also a talented artist and now stays in Ayrshire, Scotland. She especially enjoys letters from children and replies to all of them!
Read this aloud with Eli. George Muller is the man! Incredibly encouraged and motivated by his life, especially his prayer life.
However, this book was written terribly. It was so hard to follow and the English was messy. Sometimes the sentences really didn’t make sense. So for that 2.5 stars, but the life of George Muller 5 stars
Some books are not suited for reading aloud. George Müller: The Children’s Champion goes in this category, in my opinion. We read this biography aloud as part of our history studies this month, and while the content is good, it was laborious to read out loud. I can’t put my finger on why – it just didn’t flow well for oral reading. Next time we cycle back around to the 1800s, I’ll just assign it as independent reading.
George Muller is one of my heros! This man's story is an encouragement and an inspiration, His faith in God to provide his every need as he set up homes for orphans and never asked for money but just waited on God to provide is a testimony to how faithful our God is in supply our needs. God really worked in the life of this thief and turned him into a friend to whom he trusted millions of pounds all give through the power of his continuing faithful prayers. I particularly like the Bible study ideas and prayer points at the end of this book.
His story is excellent. Still cried multiple times while reading it. But, the writing is very choppy, hard to follow and could have been more engaging.
The Trail Blazers are historically famous people's memors. Their story part is interesting, but not their long list of achievements which is 2/3 of the book
An excellent introduction to the life of George Muller, written especially for teens but an enjoyable short read for adults too. A very inspiring man who provides a compelling model of good stewardship and life lived in cheerful dependence on God.
I also appreciated the way the writer doesn't seek to glorify Muller but draws attention to the rich kindness of God to him and through him.
I look forward to reading more about Muller in future.
