No one really knows who Leif is. They know the man he portrays and the things he has done, both good and bad. He was a boy that came from nothing and grew into a man full of rage that almost killed the one person he set out to save. He roams the realms waiting for death. Waiting for an absolution that doesn't come. Then a rumor surfaces. A threat has been made against Sunny. Leif sets out to try to right the wrongs of his past. He sets out to do what he was meant to do from the beginning, save the queen. Can he do it alone or will he have to do the one thing that is hardest for him, which is: Ask for help.
This is the fourth book in Courtney Rene’s Shadow Dancer series. I read the first three and loved them all as I followed along on Sunny’s journey to finding her special and unique “super hero” powers of disappearing into the shadows. Haven’t we all wished at some point that we could become invisible? Well with Sunny it’s a definite realization; however, she also discovers she’s not alone. One of the first Shadow Walker she meets is Leif. They become involved, but over time, discover they really aren’t destined to be together. Plus, Sunny has a much more important job to do as Queen of Acadia.
In the first three books of this series, we learn all about Sunny’s struggles but this fourth book, Shadow Fire is all about Leif’s life. We get to find out where he came from, his struggles, and gain a better understanding of the person he is.
Courtney did a great job of telling this story from Leif’s voice and perspective. I gained a new respect and understanding of what he’s gone through and why he did some of the good as well as bad things in his life, like almost murdering Sunny in book three, Shadow’s End.
The author’s writing is excellent and she tells a story like no other. Her words keep you captivated so that you don’t want to put the book down until you find out what happens. That’s my kind of book!
My biggest question is… when is book five coming out? I definitely recommend this book, along with the first three of the series, to anyone who loves fiction, fantasy, paranormal and just an overall good read.
This book is a great addition to the Shadow Series. It answers all the questions you asked yourself about Leif in Shadow's End. If you've read any of the other books in this series, you HAVE TO read this one!
