It was only meant to be one night, but two little lines will change everything.

After recovering from a brain injury that nearly took his life, boxer Kaden Scott can no longer compete in the sport he’s dedicated his life to, leaving only one thing left for him to love…His best friend’s younger sister.

Kaden’s adored Missy Kincaid from a distance for far too long, not wanting to risk the brotherly bond he has with his best friend. He just had no idea that the smart, independent, driven woman—on the way to completing her PhD—has also been crushing on him from the moment they met too.

Until an unexpected kiss in an elevator leads to them spending a night together. With Missy waking up alone the next morning.

Six weeks later, she’s staring at two pink lines on a stick.

Telling Kaden is risky because she doesn’t want a future with him this way—not where he’s forced to be by her side. But Kaden isn’t a man willing to walk away from his responsibilities, and soon, the two of them are navigating a new life, one filled with uncertainties and question marks over the way they truly feel about each other.

Until an enemy from Kaden’s past comes back to haunt him, putting everything he loves at risk all over again. Only this time, he’s not willing to go down so easily in the fight for not just his life, but his feisty girl and unborn babies too.

5 Stars!
(ARC provided by author)

Missy Kincaid lives in New York where she's been busy taking classes for her PhD in psychology while working in between. She has a wonderful family that is everything to her. She is the only girl of four siblings, and adores her brother's Zeus, Ares and Lo. After the loss of her mother, her two older brothers raised her and her twin brother. She's now twenty five and starting to wonder if she'll ever meet her person. Then she gets a spontaneous kiss from the hottest man she's ever laid eyes on. Kaden Scott is an ex world champion boxer, and her oldest brothers best friend. She's crushed on him for years, and didn't think he had any interest in her beyond friendship. She assumed he just saw her as Zeus's little sister. She thinks about him way too often, and always looks forward to seeing him at family functions. She's forever hiding her feelings for him, and wishing he'd notice her. Then that kiss leads to one unforgettable night together that changes everything when six weeks later her whole world is turned upside down by two pink lines on a stick. Her future in uncertain and extremely complicated as she navigates a new reality with a man that makes her feel too much.

Risk by Samantha Towle is the third book in the Gods series. It's an age gap, friends to lovers, one night stand, surprise pregnancy, brother's best friend romance about family, self discovery and forbidden love. It's a beautiful story full of emotion, angst, humor, suspense and sizzling chemistry. I really enjoyed this book and was not prepared for all the swoon that was Kaden Scott. I love this series, and hope we get Lo's book next! I need more from this world! <333

3.5 Kaden and Missy Stars

I loved the first book in this series, Ruin , which is about Missy's oldest brother, Zeus. Ares , her other older brother gets his story told in Rush which I really enjoyed.
I had high hopes for Missy's book and whilst I enjoyed parts of it , it didn't quite hit the mark for me at times but we all read a different book and there is a lot of love out there for Missy's tale.

This is an older brother's best friend / unexpected pregnancy trope. Missy (Artemis) is the only girl in the Kincaid siblings and she was largely raised by Zeus and Ares after their mother died and their dad got lost in his grief. Missy is a twin and is close to all her brother's , especially her twin , Apollo (Lo). Kaden Scott grew up in the foster care system from the age of 8. His backstory is sad and I wanted more of his voice in the book. The novel is told completely from Missy's pov but I would have loved Kaden to have some chapters. There is a lot of inner monologue from Missy which I am not a huge fan of - purely personal taste.

There is a lot of passion and the chemistry between our H/h is hot.
I also loved the interactions between the women in the book - they may not be blood related but Cam, Ari and Missy are a strong sisterhood and it added to the depth of the story to see how they supported each other.

This was a fairly quick read for me. Enjoyable but I wouldn't re read it. I am hopeful that Lo gets his story at some point.

HEA? Yes - a lovely ending.
Cheating? No

Back when Kindle’s were brand new and self publishing started I found a core group of 6 authors I loved and have followed ever since back then. They’ve all been quite successful over the years. Samantha Towle is one of those writers and I first loved her paranormal books. Now she pretty much just writes contemporaries(with one exception). This was her first book in a few years due to writers block and it’s the third book in her Gods series. She’s also British, but set the series in America.

Artemis, otherwise known as Missy, has crushed on her brother’s best friend, Kaden for years. While at her brother, Zeus’s, wedding reception the two end up alone in the same elevator at the end of the evening. One thing leads to another and she ends up alone the next morning and pregnant eventually. She’s a grad student, and a diner waitress and barely gets by. Kaden got a huge settlement after almost dying in a boxing ring. He owns his own gym and penthouse apartment now. He’s determined to care for the baby and Missy. I am going to stop here.

I enjoyed the read and was happy to catch up with all the characters from the other books in addition to this one. I liked Missy and Kaden a lot. The author was able to avoid the usual third act breakup which goes really far in my mind. There was something huge that happened instead, even if it was a bit improbable. I should mention that the read was pretty spicy and a very adult read.

2.5 ⭐️

I really liked Kaden and Missy together! The years of mutual pining, the unexpected pregnancy, the way they actually talked through things like adults … those parts were amazing. Kaden especially won me over. Once he knew, he was all in. No drama, no games. Pure devotion and I was here for it.

But the plot? Yeah it kinda went off the rails. There were moments that felt like they were building to something meaningful, then suddenly things would happen that made zero sense. Big issues were mentioned and then never explored again. That ending gave me whiplash … it felt rushed and the random burst of chaos near the end was way too much.

So while I was genuinely into the romance and thought their connection was sweet and believable, the rest of the story didn’t hold together for me. 2.5 stars is for the couple and not the chaos.

Missy + Kaden

Missy has been crushing on her oldest brother's best friend for years.
And today - at her other brother's wedding - she's finally brave enough to flirt a little. Maybe she could have a fling with him. He would never want to have a relationship with his buddie's little sister, right?

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN...

What will happen with Missy + Kaden?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

Well... that was cute.

We all should remember everyone in this book - we've already read the two books for Missy's brothers. And as it was a few years ago, and I'm suffering from book alzheimers, I'm not remembering much - but pff - we don't have to remember. We can always go back and read them again.
Missy is going to be a psychologist and Kaden was a pro boxer who had to give up his passion due to a very serious injury.
After that one night at the wedding things are a bit cool between them.
If they'd just talk to each other - everything would be easier. But book people never do.
But the reader enjoys watching them organize their feelings and lives and futures together.
That was an adorable little story.
I liked reading it.
Didn't take me long - it was a little short for my tastes.
Many things are repeated a lot and not much is happening.
And I really missed hearing Kaden's thoughts here and there. We don't know much about him.
This book could've/should've been a bit longer with a bit more important stuff. I don't even know what I mean, but it wasn't enough for me.
But I loved that we finally got a new Sam Towle book! Yay!

RISK was a cute and sexy little pregnancy romance with a bit of suspense toward the end.

Kaden and Artemis (Missy) are a good couple. A little hit and miss in the beginning.

I really wish we would’ve gotten Kaden’s POV. However, I enjoyed how he took responsibility and how he set boundaries.

I was surprised that Missy missed some clues especially considering her field of study. Luckily, everything worked out.

The drama was everything you thought it would be.

Nice comeback for ST. Here’s hoping for more! (Lo’s book?)

Samantha Towle is on top form with the latest addition to the gods series of books.

This emotionally charged romance delivers all the hallmarks of a great contemporary love story—angst, passion, personal growth, and the powerful tug of second chances wrapped in a compelling “forbidden love” setup.

After a traumatic brain injury derails boxer Kaden Scott’s career, he's left reeling from the loss of his identity and future. What grounds him is the one thing he’s always quietly wanted but never dared pursue: Missy Kincaid, his best friend’s brilliant, strong-willed sister. When a stolen kiss and a night of vulnerability shift everything between them, it’s not just emotions they’re left to unpack—it’s two pink lines and a whole new life.

The story shines in its portrayal of complex emotions: Missy's fear of being "chosen" out of obligation, Kaden’s desperate need to protect and fight for a future that’s uncertain, and their mutual struggle to understand what love looks like when circumstances push faster than hearts are ready for.

The chemistry between the leads is tender yet explosive, fueled by years of quiet longing. Kaden is a layered hero—flawed, fiercely loyal, and slowly unraveling the softer side hidden beneath his fighter’s exterior. Missy, a PhD candidate, brings refreshing intelligence and determination to the narrative, pushing back against cliché roles often assigned in surprise pregnancy plots.

What elevates this story beyond a typical romance is the element of danger introduced through Kaden’s past. The looming threat adds suspense and raises the emotional stakes, especially as Kaden must now fight not just for himself, but for the family he never expected to have.

The pacing is tight, the emotional beats land well, and while some plot turns feel familiar (especially for fans of the genre), the characters have enough depth to keep it engaging. A few more scenes showing Missy and Kaden growing together post-reveal would have deepened the impact, but the heartfelt resolution compensates for any minor shortcomings.

Perfect for readers who enjoy:

Brother’s best friend romances

Surprise pregnancy with real emotional stakes

Protective, wounded heroes

Intelligent, capable heroines

Romance with suspenseful subplots

Final Thoughts:
A deeply satisfying romance that mixes heat, heart, and just enough tension to keep you hooked. If you like your love stories with emotional weight and a fighter who’s ready to battle for love, this one will hit the mark.

I am so disappointed 😞
I have been waiting for this story for a very long time but it was lacking tje magic of the previous books of the serie.
The idea is good, but the writing really awful. I found myself skipping more and more paragraphs... shame!

A few years ago I read a few books by Samantha, including Ruin and Rush, the first two books in this series and with the one, loved them all. I started waiting for the third book in the God series. They were my favourite two of her books I read. I waited. And waited. And waited. Some more and no third book. I read the first two a few times to keep me going, but with my growing list of new authors, Samantha and her next book kind of slipped my mind. Then, a few weeks ago I noticed my patience was being rewarded and the third book, this one, was being released soon. Of course I preordered it and reread Ruin and Rush in anticipation. Risk came in a few days ago and I waited a bit to let the anticipation build before diving in.

I loved this book though I can only give it five stars; I’ll get into why shortly.

Artemis or Missy as she is known is the younger and only girl of the Kincaid siblings. I HIGHLY recommend the first two books so you get to know the family history. For years she’s been in love with Kaden Scott. He was introduced in the first book and has a very interesting back story. She’s never done anything about her crush, Kaden is older, her brother’s best friend and has never given any indication her feelings are returned. That is until the night of her brother’s wedding and things explode between Missy and Kaden. Now this is how I like my love scenes. Very spicy but not over the top descriptive. Sadly, Kaden ghosts her and is gone before she wakes up, leaving a sorry ass very short two word note. Missy is devastated, naturally, she thought finally, years later, something special was going to happen between the two of them. And then she gets angry, deservedly so. She feels like he used her. She wants nothing more to do with him though she knows they will cross paths, him being close to the whole family and all. She doesn’t say anything to her family about what happened.

But as often as- well, always in a romance - things aren’t over between them. Seems he left something behind after all. Missy is pregnant. I truly appreciate how things go. She debates the options with herself, abortion, adoption or keeping the baby, even though she is still in school studying for her PhD. In her heart she knows option three is the only choice and that she will have to tell Kaden. And to find out you will have to read the book.

I love Kaden. He quickly shot up to one of my all time favourite heroes. He has a tragic history and the reader can understand his actions when he tries explaining them to Missy. He’s a walking, talking, sex on a stick kind of guy and gets two thumbs up. Missy on the other hand, my feelings are a bit more confusing. I liked her quite a bit but times wanted to shake her. I understand her thoughts and feelings while at the same time wanted to yell at her to get over it. Look at him trying so hard.

This is a book I will for sure read again and a book that gets two enthusiastic thumbs up. I would recommend reading the first two books first. Besides being amazing, delightful, wonderful stories, it helps knowing the Kincaid family from the beginning. In the afterword, Samantha says she had writer’s block, the reason for the delay in getting this one out. I’m so very glad she seems to be over it. I want Lo’s story. He’s Missy’s very close behind twin brother.

Not Bad

It was an okay story. I just didn't get any romance from this book. Missy gets pregnant and Kaden convinces her to move in with him because of that. She's hesitant about being with him because she thinks he only wants to be with her because of the pregnancy. But then all of a sudden they hook up again and she's agreeing to be his girlfriend. We don't get many scenes of them spending quality time together or dating. We don't get to see them falling in love. It skips over the pregnancy and Kaden and Missy's entire relationship.
Also, after we get a scene of Kaden and Missy telling Missy's family about the pregnancy, they don't show up again in the book. We don't get even get to see any phone calls or texts between them. Nothing. And yet she's supposedly close to her brothers and their wives and children. Idk, I just feel as if this book could have been longer and more fleshed out. I feel like it was missing a lit of things that make a decent romance book.

Samantha Towle delivers a stellar addition to her Gods series with this emotionally charged romance that encapsulates the essence of love stories.

The narrative is rich with angst, passion, personal growth, and the allure of second chances, all set against a backdrop of forbidden love.

After a traumatic brain injury derails boxer Kaden Scott's career, he grapples with the loss of his identity and future, finding solace in his best friend's strong-willed sister, Missy Kincaid. A stolen kiss and a night of vulnerability change everything, leading to unexpected revelations that challenge their understanding of love amidst uncertainty.

The chemistry between Kaden and Missy is both tender and explosive, driven by years of unspoken desire. Kaden emerges as a complex hero, revealing a softer side beneath his tough exterior, while Missy, a determined PhD candidate, defies typical tropes associated with surprise pregnancies.

The story's tension is heightened by Kaden's troubled past, adding suspense and emotional stakes as he fights for a family he never anticipated.

With tight pacing and impactful emotional beats, the narrative keeps readers engaged, though a few additional scenes showcasing Missy and Kaden's growth together post-reveal could have enhanced the story further. Nonetheless, the heartfelt resolution makes up for any minor shortcomings.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lameeee!!! This should’ve been a DNF or a one star, but the brain rot won. 🥴

Now, I have read the other two books in this series and I enjoyed them a lot. To be fair, it’s rare when an author can pull off a surprise pregnancy trope and make it work well.. with that said this was not it. Samantha had two books to lay the ground work for Missy and Kaden and just flat out didn’t do it. This man was “part of their family” and she visited him in the hospital when he was injured …yet she doesn’t know his birthdate, doesn’t know his address, and hasn’t been to his gym…WHAT?!?!

There was no mention of stolen glances, moments were Missy thought he might’ve been into her, and visa versa since we only get her POV 🙄🙄

Then we get the one night stand, surprise pregnancy and a lot of back and forth for Missy where she like him but doesn’t want to complicate things … Kaden was sort of there…? Would make a lot of big statements for shock value? They were never explored at all! The bomb about his mom and dad, “we’re inevitable”, “you’re deserve someone better than me”… sir, you are all over the place, please go to therapy - your baby momma is going to be a therapist and she didn’t urge him to go to therapy STAT…. WHY?!?!

Don’t even get me started on the 3rd act drama …. You’re both going to go through this dramatic event, then witness THAT dramatic event while Missy is pregnant and ONLY TALK ABOUT IT ONCE AND NOT SEE A THERAPIST AFTERWARDS?!?!?! Just nooooooooo 🫤🫤🫤

I did laugh hard when they share the news with the family and Zeus and Ares freak out and have the most Zeus and Ares reaction to it.

This book was too short. Every problem was solved immediately. There was no tension between the MMC and FMC even though their “tension” was written about in the book. MMC had zero personality. The FMC was immature. I also hate it when the FMC is obnoxiously stubborn for no reason. What person would willingly go back to work 4 weeks postpartum??? Take the help chica!! This would have been better if we had gotten the MMCs POV. Maybe he wouldn’t have had the personality of flour. Also the ending with Gary seemed so out of left field like the author needed some type of problem that wasn’t a third act break up. I appreciate not having a third act breakup but I think it would have made more sense and been a tad more believable if Gary made an appearance earlier in the book.

I didn’t hate this book…. But I didn’t love it. I do love a surprise pregnancy and I think the bare bones of this book had potential but the execution fell flat.

What in the actual heck was that ending?!
This would have been a 4 star read if it wasn't for the last fifteen minutes of the book.

**SPOILER***

The scene where they find out they're having twins is EVERYTHING. I was literally giggling and kicking my feet! I had such high hopes after that.

But the ending was straight up STUPID. First of all, nobody is stalking someone for weeks and then decides to take them hostage in the middle of a doctor's office? like wtf? Also, every pregnant woman EVER knows that you are at your OBs office so often that they know you and your partner on sight. That was just cheap writing that made no sense and just served as a last minute conflict that nobody wanted or needed.
Don't even get me started on the fact that Kaden showed up with NO backup and NO plan?! Her adoptive mother is a literal cop, dumbass. And her brothers are professional athletes... But the author lost alllllll of my future business when SHE HAD THE BAD GUY HIT BY A TRAIN THAT HE JUST DIDNT NOTICE?! What in the Regina George is going on?! That was the stupidest thing I have ever read. And then they never speak of it again?! Be so for real. After getting held hostage at gunpoint for two hours and then witnessing someone get ran over by a train they would need therapy. But sure, let's have all of this happen in the last chapter and then gloss over it. What was the point? Again, it was stupid and ruined the entire book for me.

i was gonna rate this book 4 ⭐️ but then Missy, single handedly, ruined it by called their child Dionysus. feel bad for that bloody child. “Dinosaur, can you please put your toys away” give me a break. what happened to calling ur children actual names, like Henry (thanks for being sensible Kaden). Although, i do like his nickname “Dion” but did we really need to make it a nickname, why not his actual name? 😭

Kaden Scott was a boxer until one accident changed his pathway. Missy Kincaid is his best friend’s sister and studying to become doctor. He always liked her but obviously that was an off limits situation until one kiss leads to a whole new complication. Can they find a new path when one night leads to oh so much more? What a sweet and emotional oops pregnancy romance between two people that always cared for one another. Told in first person and Missy’s POV.

I have been waiting for Missy's story for years.  I had a feeling she would be a little feisty and stubborn and she did not disappoint.  Though she did make me want to scream because she could not see the wood for the trees when it came to Kaden.
It was clear from the start Kaden was already all the way in love with Missy even if he did screw it up to begin with.  Kaden was patient though and perservered until Missy eventually saw he was being honest and true.  Being back with Zeus, Cam, Ares & Ari also made me want to go back and reread their books too as it is long overdue.
I love the family dynamic in this series.  The teasing is spot on and the way they defend and support each other is how all families should be.
I am so glad Samantha Towle has found the writing bug again and I hope Lo bites soon as I think he is going to be intriguing.

This one’s all on me, I really dislike the surprise pregnancy trope. The couple had no chemistry, and we don’t really get to know them. All we learn is that they had a one-night stand, what they do for work or school, and that they have “complicated” pasts. But we never see why they like each other, let alone love each other. That’s probably why the love confession felt so flat.

This one didn’t quite work for me. While Missy and Kaden supposedly had a long-standing connection, I never really felt it. The story felt rushed and packed with unnecessary drama—especially Gary’s storyline, which felt random and tacked on at the end. Overall, it lacked the depth and spark of Samantha Towle’s earlier work, like The Mighty Storm series, which I really enjoyed.

Missy has always had a crush on Kaden but has never thought of perusing anything with him. He was too involved with her family to do something and it seemed like he only saw her as a little sister. Then one night their shields come down and they spend one steamy night that goes wrong in the morning. He’s gone and only left an “I’m sorry” note. Missy didn’t sulk around and planned to go on like nothing happened. But she wasn’t expecting destiny to be so twisted. Kaden has a dark past one that makes him feel unworthy for Missy he wants her but he cant have her, he feels that he isn’t good enough so he messes up a lot. Until life gives him a second chance and he takes it with full force and does everything he can to show her he’s always wanted her and always will. But his past comes back and might cause him to lose the most precious things he had.

When I learned about Kaden’s past I was broken, it shows why he did what he did in the start ( totally messed up ) but it wasn’t because hes a total jerk it’s because of how his thought process worked. In the end both Missy got what she always wanted and he got what he never thought was possible

We finally got Missy’s story, and it was a nice and easy read. I reread the previous books to remember a bit about her family, but it wasn’t a problem since I loved Zeus and Ares’ stories before. Missy was the only woman among her siblings, so I enjoyed her moments with her brothers and her relationship with her sisters-in-law.

Missy had a crush on Kaden, her older brother’s best friend, for years, but she always thought he didn’t feel the same way because of their age gap and his friendship with her brother. Everything changed at her brother’s wedding when she and Kaden talked and flirted for hours. When they were finally alone, they shared a passionate night. But the next morning, Missy woke up alone and thought Kaden regretted it, so she tried to forget him and move on.

Kaden used to be a boxer, but his career ended after a serious injury in the ring. After that, he became close friends with Missy’s brother, and that’s when he met Missy and was captivated by her. Still, he never told his friend about his feelings, not wanting to risk their friendship. Kaden had a rough past—he grew up in foster care after his dad went to prison—so after his night with Missy, he convinced himself he wasn’t good enough for her and stayed away.

Missy kept focusing on her PhD, but everything changed when she found out she was pregnant. She thought she would have to raise her baby alone, but after she told Kaden, he was determined to be there for her and their child. She was still hurt by how things ended that night, but I liked how Kaden explained why he left and how he showed her what she meant to him. When they found out they were expecting twins, it was nice to read how Missy’s family reacted and how they supported her.

I enjoyed reading Missy and Kaden’s moments together and how they gave their relationship another chance. They faced some problems because of Kaden’s father, and while that part felt a bit rushed, I liked how they finally got their happy ending with their twins. I loved how everything worked out for them, and I hope we get Apollo’s story next to see more of the Kincaid family.

Summary:
This is the third book in the Gods Series. I have read the books prior, but you can read this book as a standalone. The FMC has had a crush on the MMC. The MMC is her brother's best friend. The night of her brother's wedding the FMC and MMC have a one-night stand resulting in a pregnancy. The story takes you through informing her family, the building of a relationship between the FMC and MMC (you realize he always wanted her but felt he didn't deserve her). There is also a kidnapping---I don't want to give spoilers so I will say no more.

Review:
I liked this book and loved how it fit into the series. I am hoping that her twin brother gets a book as well. The only issue I had with this book was how the kidnapping was handled. One minute she was kidnapped the next minute it was over. I wanted that scene fleshed out a bit more. 🤷‍♂️ Other than that I loved how the MMC made it known he has always wanted her. I stood with the FMC as she made him work for it due to his own actions.
