Georgia Gold #4

Bright as Gold

Rate this book
In the fourth and final installment of The Georgia Gold Series, the Randalls and Rousseaus rebuild their lives following The War Between the States. Becoming the bride of former blockade runner Jack Randall is doubly challenging for a half-Cherokee girl from the mountains, but Mahala Franklin is determined to not only make a place in old Savannah ... but bring redemption to the Randall name as well as the city's shattered society. Her unique plan enlists the help of Jack's half-sister Sylvie and cousin Ella Beth, both of whom learn that, like Jack and Mahala, love can be found in the most unlikely places.

Meanwhile, battle-hardened Dylan Rousseau returns to the family farm in Habersham County, where his inner wounds threaten to crack him open as surely as the drought-baked earth he must learn to subdue. And somehow he must find a way past his brother's memory into the heart of Mahala's best friend Carolyn, the woman he has always loved. Weaving between them comes the secret promise - or the deadly lure? - of lost Confederate gold. Will it divide them forever and devour a family legacy, or will they emerge from the furnace of afflictions as Bright as Gold?

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway but unfortunately it got buried under some paperwork etc. while cleaning up for the holidays. I recently discovered it again and read it in less than two days ( I had to interrup my reading to cook, eat, clean etc. or I would have just done nothing but read this book!). I loved it! I was born in the South so I'm rather familiar with Civil War history and times plus I have also visited Savannah, GA and the surrounding area. Therefore the time period, the places and a lot that happened in the the plot all seemed so familiar and interesting to me. I know that this was book four of the Georgia Gold series (and I definitely want to find and read the other three books) but this book easily stood on its own without needing to have read the other ones. The characters were well defined and the plot moved forward in a timely manner. This was a well written book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I'm looking forward to reading the other books by Denise Weimer.

I received this book as an arc and I loved, loved this book and could not put it down. It is about a family after the Civil war and their desperations and relationships and how love overcame it all. Since I love history and Savannah I must now read the first three book in the series.

Georgia Gold Series

How I enjoyed this series! It compares to "Gone with the Wind"! The characters so real and their thoughts and feelings laid bare for us. As a Christian, I delighted in the ever present background of faith. This series has been a blessing to me, and I'm so thankful that all four books were included in the Kindle Unlimited choices. Thank you, Denise, for taking us back in time to experience the love and loss of these characters during the terrible time of the War between the States.

Loved it

I loved the complexity of the characters and the realistic setting. Weimer's brought the reader to the heart of Georgia before, during, and after the Civil War. Through the Georgia Gold Series. And bright as Gold brought all the characters this reader had come to love to their a HEA.

I was hooked

I thoroughly enjoyed the Georgia Gold series. In fact I had trouble putting the books down! The character development & spiritual insight was so well done. I appreciated the historical detail & learned a lot about this tough time in American history.

This is the hire in he series about the Rousseaus and Franklin families in Savannah and North Georgia spanning the mid to late 1800s. The families live through the civil war, and survival afterwards I like reading about places I know and this is full of them. A fun series to read.
