When the Pieces Fall: An Ed Freemen Thriller

Rate this book
Somerton Police Captain Ed Freemen thought he had seen his last demon when he left Lake Hope, but evil has unfinished business with him.

When Ed answers a call about a body in a field, he expects another routine case—until the “victim” is found alive, his mangled body impossibly tied to a gruesome farm accident. And watching from the crowd is Ed's old mentor...who died six months ago.

More bodies turn up, each death more cryptic than the last. This isn’t just a murder spree. It’s a supernatural conspiracy, a diabolical game of chess, with Ed as the king piece under siege. A powerful entity hell-bent on revenge is backing him into a corner, twisting reality until it splinters.

But how can Ed convince anyone that sinister forces are behind all this when even his wife thinks he’s losing his grip?

Checkmate is coming. And if Ed loses, it will cost him everything—including his immortal soul.

In the thrilling sequel to When the Lantern Swings, retired FBI Agent Allen T. Grimes delivers another gripping tale of psychological terror, blending supernatural horror, gritty crime fiction, and mind-bending suspense. Perfect for fans of paranormal thrillers, demonic mysteries, and dark police procedurals, When the Pieces Fall plunges readers into a nightmarish game where every move could mean death. This atmospheric thriller will keep you turning pages late into the night.

While it's not necessary to first read "When the Lantern Swings", this gripping thriller continues Ed Freeman's paranormal challenges, and his wife asks more than once if he thinks certain events are related to Jackie Hudak--the ghostly character in the first book. Ed and his wife have relocated from Ohio to a small town in Arizona, both with the small police department, where they hope to get a fresh start. Weird murders ensue. Ed begins "to see things" which he refuses to believe are hallucinations, but which he fears to share with both his wife and his team due to his family history of others having been committed. Fortunately, he has one member of his team who believes in him...and it's not his wife. The results of a dramatic move Ed makes to end the tragedies, will keep the reader guessing to the end.
