4.5 ⭐️ | Now this is what I call some good ole vigilante justice! This spicy story kept my attention for all 359 pages. Despite the heavy subjects, such as childhood trauma and abuse, this story has some easy to love characters. I enjoyed reading the multiple POVs from Brynn, Ayden and “Him”..
When “he” sets his sights on Brynn, there is simply no turning back. There is LITERALLY no other option, she will be his! However making her his is not his only goal, he is determined to bring her to the dark side, while making the world a better place (in their own twisted & unhinged way). Who Brynn is expected to fear, she loves.
Brynn’s character development made me proud. Although some (or even most) will disapprove of her methods, I was proud of her growth and enjoyed the moment where she no longer saw herself as a victim, but as a strong survivor. She truly had the “best of both worlds” with Ayden & “him.”
Overall a great read that made me immediately want to read more from M.C. Stokes. If you enjoy unhinged & dangerous MMCs that have obsessive & stalking tendencies, this addictive story is for you! One question everyone will have to ask for themselves.. Villains or saviors? (Check trigger warnings it touched on some sensitive subjects)
All I can say is wow just wow. This book is so full of trauma and emotions it has you feeling like you are on a roller coaster. Survivor’s becoming vigilante just perfect. M.C. Stokes does an amazing job with the character development and telling Brann, Ayden, and him that it will keep you turning the pages to find out where the story is gonna go next. Now the ending though didn't expect that one at all.
M.C. Stokes plunges readers into the darkest corners of obsession, violence, and twisted love in Goddess of Death, a chilling psychological thriller that defies convention and dares you to look into the eyes of a predator—and perhaps understand him.
Told through the perspective of a dangerously fixated narrator, this novel explores the descent of a woman being hunted not just by a man, but by his need to remake her in his own monstrous image. The unnamed protagonist is manipulative, charismatic, and utterly deranged, drawing you in with the same force he uses to ensnare his prey. What begins as stalking quickly devolves into a disturbing “love story” where the lines between protection, possession, and destruction are fatally blurred.
The strength of this book lies in its unapologetically raw voice. The narrator doesn’t ask for sympathy—he demands your attention, dragging you along for the ride as he charts out a path of blood, manipulation, and psychological warfare. His obsession isn’t just with the woman—it's with what he believes she can become. In his mind, she’s not a victim; she’s a goddess in the making, a dark twin soul forged through murder and trauma.
While Goddess of Death is not for the faint of heart—its themes are heavy, its characters morally bankrupt, and its story soaked in brutality—it’s a compelling dive into the mind of a psychopath. Stokes doesn’t flinch, and neither does the prose. Each line simmers with tension, daring you to look away. You won’t.
This is not a redemption arc. It’s not a romance. It’s a nightmare wrapped in devotion, and it’s utterly unforgettable.
Rating: ★★★★☆ (Recommended for readers who enjoy dark psychological thrillers with morally grey—if not outright villainous—narrators and unflinching explorations of obsession.)
I finished this book yesterday and I’m not sure exactly how I feel about it. Actually I have a lot of feelings about it lol. The twist in the middle was awesome, I kinda saw it coming but it didn’t take away the gasp I made when it was verified. I did NOT expect that ending which is always a good thing. The scream I screamed when I read it. Holy cow, I had to go back and read the last few paragraphs again just to make sure of what I read! Actually the last few chapters still have me shaking my head and feeling deeply at the same time.
I’m still thinking about it which is also a good thing, this book left me with lots of feelings, none bad just…strong feelings. Not sure how I felt about Brynn at first, but I did love how she found her voice and her strength. Asher was adorable, and I couldn’t wait to see what HIM would do next.
Definitely a 4+ star book, and one that will stay with me for a long time, exactly how her book Hijacked has stayed with me.
The author really does have a talent for writing characters that are relatable and the story arcs always flow. I can’t wait to read her next book.
Check the triggers because this book was filled with them. Some heavy stuff in here. Spice level was good, not over the top and seriously a good book.
I read Goddess of Death as an ARC reader. I have no idea where to start. First, I am not a fan (at all) of first-person writing. However, this was so well done that it "fit." The dual POV (which is hard to do well) was VERY good. Even though I gloss over the chapter titles (which makes first-person dual POV hard for me to read), I never had an issue knowing whose POV each chapter was for.
Because of those two things, it took me a couple of chapters to get into this book, but once I did, OH MY GOD. This book kept me seriously engrossed. How was Brynn going to deal with the stalker? Are the stalker and the geek the same person? There are so many twists that it keeps you guessing. None of the twists led to plot holes.
I can't say much more without giving it away. But the ending. That was a complete surprise. I *never* saw that one coming. Nope.
I loved the stalker, the geek and Brynn. I kind of wanted to crawl into the pages to slap Rocky and the other worker (can't remember his name) upside the head several times.
Highly recommend, but you better not have thin skin (you have to like dark romance). An emotionally raw book that drags you in.
As I approached this book, I was aware of the (Heavy Triggers) but this definitely is on another level. What I discovered between the pages was a dark, thought-provoking, healing, a batty twisted “redemption love”story with all the vibes. I enjoyed when I felt an empathetic connection to the characters, a sense of self preservation and strength that can only be accomplished by a well written book.
This was scandalous and raw, full of conflict, turmoil, Brynn warring with herself, scratching for freedom. As she fights through finding her voice, wanting her own justice especially after unraveling many new found truths. I felt somewhat guilty enjoying it but I could understand Brynns dilemma, her inner battles and need for change, a freedom of the soul kind.. HIM (chaos) unhinged and Ayden her sweet (calm). Little does she know that a devil has many masks and can take many forms, and that maybe ones own self .. with the trio unraveling towards the end like a train off the track. (Mind Blown!)
Where to start! I could not put it down once I started reading. M.C Stokes you never disappoint. I felt this book was fast paced. I love it. Brynn has had a hard life. But things start to look up when she meets Him and Ayden. She doesn't like to be touched. But she will like them! Brynn falls for Him and Ayden. She doesn't know Him real name yet but she will soon.Him kidnaps her to help her unleash the monster inside her that she didn't even know she had. and oh what a ride. She is all for it. She feels safe. She also meets Ayden on the bus. They become friends. Ayden and him are protecting Brynn. I love this book through and through. Perfect amount of spice, twist and suspense. This is a must read !!!Bravo !!! hopefully there will be a number 2. Check your triggers warnings.
Goddess of Death is now the best book I have read this year! Please read the trigger warnings!
This book is phenomenal! This is a dark romance that touches on SA, and revenge for the victims. I don't want to give too much away but OMG I was hooked from page one and I didn't put it down until I was done! The storyline is intriguing, the characters are well written. I love how the author made the story, and emotions realistic while still adding fictional situations. I also love how the characts are respectful of touching, consent, patience, and respecting each others boundaries. If you are into DR, and aren't bothered by the TW's then I would highly recommend adding this book to your TBR!
Completely unprepared for what was in store in this book. I was hooked from the first few pages. This story builds and builds until it comes to a crashing end! I was in tears off and on through the whole book. Him was the hero/villain every girl hopes will come and save her by whatever means are necessary. Brynn is the girl that doesn’t know she needs a hero, but leans in to him for strength. Ayden is the sweet boy either a dark side everyone roots for. I would love to see some background stories come out of this… I didn’t know what to expect, but stayed for the entire thing and can’t wait to read more. M.C. Stokes is an amazing author and I have not been disappointed yet.

Oh. My. God! The ending is sending me!!!! This was dark and twisted. I ate this up. I loved the characters so much. The way the respected each others trauma and eased each other into everything was so endearing, though, there is a lot of trauma. Lincoln taught Brynn how to take control of her life again. He taught her how to be dark like him. He taught him how to seek vengeance for herself and for others that suffered SA. This story is dark, but it was so enjoyable. If you can handle dark give this one a read for sure, just make sure you check the triggers, just incase.
This is not a book to be taken lightly. The themes are heavy and dark (check your triggers!). I fell in love with Brynn and Ayden and HIM. This is dark, spicy, and it's *not* romance. These are lovers on a dark star-crossed path. I love them each, love their connection, love their personalities.
I love the healing in this book. The express consent. The softness, and the roughness. There's unaliving throughout and definite "touch her and d!e" going on here. And a bit of "touch him and d!e" too. They're unhinged!
OMG THIS WAS A TRUE MASTERPIECE!! MRS. M.C.STOKES I NEED BOOK 2 CAUSE IM OVER HERE PULING MY DANG HAIR OUT!! Where do i truly began this book was so freaking good. Brynn had a hard life poor girl she went through pure hell and thanks to Aiden and the unknown man i call the devil changed and protected her. This book was full of twist and turns and i tell you it blew me away. Just when i thought i had something figured out nope another curve ball and i tell you what I like that in a book. This was a book for someone that loves ally grey men that loves broken women and wanna put them back together and make them stronger. M.C.Stokes is an absolute brilliant author and i am excited to see if we get book 2 after this. ( She through everything at this book and it was awesome.)
Goddess of Death by M.C. Stokes was so good! Brynn had a traumatic childhood hood but now she has met a man and that man is trying to give her power by turning her into a murderer like Him. However she has a budding relationship with Aidyn will one break the other or overcome the other? Will Aidyn be able to break through his own barrier caused by his own trauma?
I received an advanced review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The writing style I loved and the characters were really well written.
To start with I thought I knew what direction the story line was going in, oh I was wrong. I'm still processing the ending!
If you want a book that is fluid through characters, deals with heavy past triggers and makes you question your moral compass, then this book should definitely be on your tbr pile!
Wow! This book was dark and twisty! Please review triggers before reading!
I couldn’t put this book down! I saw the first twist coming but, I didn’t mind since I was able to get both POV. Other twists in the book you don’t see coming. That ENDING — can I just say holy cow!!!!
The connections in this book are obsessive and also sweet. You will have to read to understand that! Check this one out! You won’t be disappointed.
Not rating because I didn’t read all of it. I started reading this, got a few chapters in, then I went reading some reviews, went back to reading the book but skimmed it. Spoiler alert: he unalives her and then himself in the end. People were right, it’s not a love story. I’m glad I skimmed the book and didn’t read it all because I would’ve been mad being invested in the mc’s just for them to die. Not rating it because it just wasn’t for me.

5 stars and if I could give it more I would, I love every single one of M.C. Stokes books but this one what an amazing roller coaster. From the sweetheart boy to the badass unaliver to the shy girl who sees herself as nothing but something to be ogled. The heart this story has and the message is so amazing. definitely heavy on the triggers.
I ate this up! Brynn was such an interesting character to watch grow. The dynamic between her, Ayden, and Him had me screaming to do things differently. Then everything happened the way it did and I ended up feeling strongly all sorts of ways lol. Not gonna lie, I teared up a little bit at one point there too. I did see that plot twist coming, but it was still a super satisfying reveal.
I have not devoured a book like this in a while. I stayed up till after 3am because I could not put it down! Wooooowwwwww what a book.!! If you like dark and twisty but falling for each other right away..this is for you. The only reason it’s 4 stars is because I felt the ending was a bit rushed and lack luster. But the rest of the book makes up for it!!!
It was a good book, it took me a bit to get through but the twist… I had no idea. It was awesome, and the ending I couldn’t have called it even if I tried. Check your trigger warnings so you are fully prepared for everything in the book.
This book was a whirlwind. Parts of it for me were predictable, while others came out of left field. With how M.C. Stokes wrote you could feel the emotions that each character was feeling. I would definitely read this book again.
Make sure to check trigger warnings before reading.
This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions, if you like obsession, violence, and twisted love this book is for you. It was emotional, intense, and just absolutely perfect!!
Fantastic book! So many twists and turns. It’s spicy. It’s loving. It’s giving everything! The connection she has with everyone is fantastic. The ending…ughhh.
I absolutely love love loved this book. This was an amazingly dark read that kept me glued to the page. I loved all the characters in this and how they evolve throughout the story.
I loved every bit of this book, I honestly couldn't believe what happened, I fell in Love for the Stalker, I fell in love with the geeky stuttering boy , I was devastated with the decisions they all took at the end. This is potentially the best Dark Themed Romance I will read this year.
