"Unless it is mad, passionate, extraordinary love, it's a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life- love should not be one of them"

Susan Carlisle, an American author, who is a medical romance writer, have spun a passionate series, Heart of Mississippi. The Doctor Who Made Her Love Again is the first book in this series, followed by The Maverick Who Ruled Her Heart that revolves around a nutritionist who is planning to leave her small town and her past and a dashing new doctor who is back to his hometown for real and good.

Synopsis:

Nutritionist Kelsey Davis has a plan. Leaving Golden Shores—and her past—firmly behind her, she's ready for a new job, a fresh start and a life led her way!

That is, until Dr. Jordon King arrives back in town. He doesn't remember her and, worse, he's even more deliciously sexy than ever! Kelsey is falling for Jordon all over again—but once she uncovers the truth that links Jordon to their painful past, can she still allow him to rule her heart…?

Kelsey Davis is the nutritionist of her small town and she is ready to leave it behind for a fresh start. And Kelsey happens to be China's younger sister, who is the previous book, feel for the new doctor, Payton. And in this book, we see her as married to Payton. Gordon King is back to his hometown after a long time and he stayed away to avoid some bad memories, and moreover, he is the new doctor, the town is all talking about. And Kelsey and Gordon fatefully works in the same team. From the very first moment, Gordon is struck by Kelsey's charm and wit, his childhood friend's sister. But Gordon risks it all when he disrupts Kelsey's plan for leaving town by digging up some old graves, which Kelsey managed to bury. But will Kelsey be reasonable enough to see the fact behind Gordon's drastic actions?

It's a nice, touchy story, with some heart-felt pain that will keep you rooted till it's very end. Susan Carlisle has yet again enthralled us with her new book in this series. The narrative style is free-flowing and catchy that keeps us engaged from the very beginning. Moreover, Kelsey's lost brother's mystery leaves us glued to the story, and the author unveils it pretty intriguing. The prose is fantastic which gives a fast pace to the book. The emotional content is equally deep and keeps us moving forward with it's high tide and low tide.

The characters are funny, adorable, handsome, sexy, witty, flawed and completely surreal, but still they manage to leave an impression on our mind. And the author portrayed them in such a fashion that it makes it easy for us to contemplate with them and walk in their shoes. The chemistry between Kelsey and Gordon is passionate, deep and hot! Kelsey and Gordon's charm is the best thing in this book, they are not only attractive, but their liveliness makes us fall for their demeanor. The storyline is captivating and the climax surely does brig a tear into our eyes.

Verdict: Some books demand to have a no-strings-attached-relationship with it's readers, and this book perfectly fits the bill!

Courtesy: Thanks to the author, Susan Carlisle, for providing me with a copy of her book, in return for an honest review.

Mills and Boon Medical Romance | September 2014
Series: Heart of Mississippi

Dr Jordan King arrives back in to the town he hasn’t seen since he rode out one night as a teen; having gotten into trouble with his best friend, China and Kelsey’s big brother. Kelsey recognizes her big brother’s friend almost immediately. She’s gutted he doesn’t remember her; he was her first love/crush back when she had a family. Kelsey is a nutritionist the local hospital Jordan is now working and their paths cross often as well as being neighbors. Kelsey is planning on leaving town, she’s struck out on her own at an early age and is only just starting to rebuild her relationship with her sister. Jordan holds the key to the mysterious disappearance of her brother and once him and Kelsey acting on their attraction he knows there will come a time when he will need to tell her where Jordan is.

Fab story, entertaining characters. Kelsey is typical “little sister”… she’s full of fun, on the outside anyway, on the inside she’s running away. Jordan is awesome and quite a character that I found completely charming and I can completely relate to the big brother best friend first love thing, brings back fond memories of childhood. Kelsey’s sister and Payton feature as does the other landmarks mentioned in the first book.

I think The Maverick who Ruled her Heart is a solid read, a great read and perfect if you’re looking for an angst free feel good story and if you read the other book first, the mystery of the missing brother and the difficulty of Kelsey’s parents will make more sense and have more emotional meaning, but in saying that both can be read alone.

I received this as a freebie at RT15. It is one of my favorite examples of the silly freebies you get. With this book you get the hat trick of over the top title, odd cover, and crazy book mark:

description

If you like the Harlequin medical romances, you'll like this. The characters are fine, no one is a doormat, the doctor mostly realizes when he's being overbearing, and there's a realistic-ish tying up of various plot lines in the main characters' pasts.

The Maverick Who Ruled Her Heart is by Susan Carlisle. It is a sequel to The Doctor Who Made Her Love Again. This book deals with Kelsey, the wild child of the family. In the first book, she and China had begun to reconcile. This book deals with trust and keeping promises.
Kelsey Davis is a nutritionist who works for the hospital in Golden Shores, Florida. She and her roommate, Molly, have a small bungalow on the shore. They were roommates in college as well as roommates now. They work together and they are best friends. Kelsey is widely liked at the hospital and in town. If a celebration is to be had, Kelsey is called on to coordinate it and she does it well. She attracts men but is trying to live down her reputation as a teenager. She is just waiting to hear from an Atlanta hospital about an interview for a job there. If she gets the job, Golden Shores will finally be behind her. Why is she running? What about her parents? What about China?
Dr. Jordan King has just been hired by the hospital. He is a little anxious as he is coming back to the only town he ever felt at home in. However, known as J-man as a teenager, he was rather wild and into drugs and other things along with Kelsey’s brother Chad. They were arrested and in jail together. The next morning, both disappeared from Kelsey’s life. Jordan was sent to military school where he finally settled down. Chad just disappeared. Now Jordan is not only working with Kelsey, who had a crush on him as a young girl; but he lives in the bungalow two doors down from her. When they first meet, he is definitely attracted to her and he does not know who she is. Can he settle down here and be happy? Can he just work with Kelsey and not get involved with her? What secret does he have that Kelsey may get angry over?
A tropical storm hits near Golden Shores and causes damage to Kelsey’s bungalow and injures Molly. This brings Jordan and Kelsey into close contact. Can they avoid each other? Will Molly be OK? What else can happen?

We all know , that when we get the perfect plan in our minds , that it all plays out perfectly, in our minds that is, never in real life because let's face it there is always something or someone that puts a spanner in the works.

This is exactly what Kelsey Davies faces, she is happy with her job as a nutritionist but she wants to leave it all behind and start a new life, make the past go away. But then smoldering make my knees go weak Dr Jordan King arrives back in town.

And Kelsey falls in love with him all over again, but after uncovering the truth that links him to their painful past will she still be able to let him be the ruler of her heart?

I could not put this read down for even one minute! From the first page the author drew me into this absolutely stunning story of "strangers" meet again , I was completely entranced with the manner the author let the past mistakes of teenagers spring forth into a beautiful tale of love.

And the story of the past was a real humdinger, did not see half of it coming, excellent job Susan! The characters were all really well written with insightful views on life and of course those secrets from the past shaped them into the type of characters that simply cannot be ignored, one simply has to get in there and find out more!

I am taking away a message of the past is the past, we all make mistakes and for the most part there is nothing we can do to try and fix it. But there is a always the number one golden rule, change. We are all capable of change and when we do the possibilities are endless, and the past can simply be just that , because when we change for the better, tomorrow looks a whole lot brighter!

I recommend this read for all fans of romance from the past reads, it was sensual and heartwarming.

The Maverick Who Ruled Her Heart by Susan Carlisle is the second part in Heart of Mississippi series and it can be easily read as a standalone. It is a well written medical romance about two individuals desperately trying to forget their painful pasts and finally move on with their lives. Jordon and Kelsey are well matched and share a good chemistry. This makes their romance believable. Kelsey is the wild child of the family and has an outspoken nature. Some may find her attitude to be a little harsh at times but I think she was an honest character who said what she felt. Jordon is an admirable hero because he does not give up easily and I loved him for having the power of perseverance. He also handled Kelsey pretty well and he deserves full points for just that.Read More

Good, quick romance set in a small town. In this case, that small town is essentially Gulf Shores, or a town very much like it! This is the second in a series, I liked it enough that I might grab the first one. We'll see!
