Book 11 in the New Species series. The books can be read as stand-alone stories, but it is advisable to read them in order to get the most enjoyment from the series.

Jeanie loves a New Species and is willing to pay for that love with pain, tears and heartbreak. She’ll do anything to keep 710 alive but she never wants him to know how she suffered for him. He’s the reason for her mission in life—freeing others like him.

True has a new life working with the NSO to rescue his people. A good life, until he encounters a dying woman—the female who betrayed him. True should feel gratified that she’s finally going to pay for her crimes, but she claims to be a victim too. He is still irresistibly drawn to the pretty little human who touched his heart and made him want her. When he clasps her hand to offer comfort, his instincts kick in and True will fight everyone to protect her.

I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

Warning - There WILL be spoilers.
So True didn't turn out to be 927, which is disappointing, but I did think that the background stories didn't quite match up.
True was a male who’d been stolen by some of Mercile’s employees before the facility had been breached to free Species. He’d been located later and recovered with a few dozen others.

The only other thing we knew about True's past was what he told Moon when Moon left to go after Joy;

“I cared about a human once. I might have done something really foolish if I’d been given the chance to be with her. I was wrong about her being a good female so it didn’t work out for me. Good luck, Moon. Be back before my shift ends so I can let you in. We’ll both be in trouble if they find out I let you go.”

I loved this book. But then again, I tend to love all the New Species books. I enjoyed meeting all the new characters in this book that knew Jeanie from when she helped or looked after them in Mercile. Jinx is a new favorite of mine (We might have met him in a previous book, but I can't remember.) and so is Flirt and Query. Laurann Dohner said (if I remember correctly) that everyone mentioned should be getting a book, so I will look forward to all of them getting their own books (hopefully soon).

A lot of characters from previous books are in this one. Breeze, as usual, has a part and is as amusing as always.
“Remind me to drive next time,” Jinx grumbled. “Slow down!”
“Did you lose your yarn balls, kitten?” Breeze laughed. “This is fun!”

Characters like Fury, Justice and Slade have their parts and then there are subtle hints about other characters like Shadow.

“You’re a menace, Breeze,” one of them accused.
“Love you, too, toga boy.”
He snarled. “I told you to stop calling me that!”
“Be nice or I’m going to go say hello to your mate. I missed Beauty while you guys were at Reservation. I’m sure I could find a flag somewhere on the way and tell her how romantic it is to relive memorable moments by reenacting them and how capturing it on camera is really awesome.”
“You wouldn’t dare. I’m not posing for pictures.”
Breeze climbed out of the vehicle and snorted. “You’ll do it if your mate asks. Remember that, toga boy.”

Despite the lack of information and how little we'd seen of True in the previous books, I quickly fell in love with him. It did remind me a little of Fury's book with Fury wanting revenge on Ellie because he believed she betrayed him, but True was quick to protect her even when he wasn't completely sure she was innocent.

Their gazes met. “You make me whole, Jeanie.”
She kissed True. “You make me whole too.”

Something else I enjoyed was learning a lot more about Darkness and now I'm even more excited for when his book comes out. He reminds me of Jericho slightly in a way. Both have had bad experiences with females and don't want a relationship. I'm actually really happy Darkness' book is next. His story... I MUST read it soon~
You have heart, True. I don’t. Mine was torn out a long time ago and damaged beyond repair.

All the little facts we read about Darkness just makes him so much more interesting. From the other books I could figure out that he;
*He's different, but all we know is a very vague comment he makes to Obsidian of “You were singled out for a mating project while I was assigned to do something else.”
*He has short dark hair.
*He's mixed with black leopard
*He "...isn’t social but he wouldn’t terrorize a female" and tends to avoid females.
*He leads some sort of security team.
*He also works as an interrogator for New Species.

In True we find out that Darkness is different because he was trained by some mercenaries. And the reason he won't terrorize any female and won't start a relationship with any female;
So many Species are so nervous around Darkness. I can't wait to see what lucky female wins his heart.

Next books in this series after Darkness that I hope to see is Jericho, Ven, Leo, 927, Harley, Flirt and Jinx. In any order, I'm not picky. I also want to see a book between Trey and Breeze. I think they would be an awesome couple. A book for Midnight and her Doctor would be good too, as it seems everything in their relationship isn't as perfect as it used to be

Fingers crossed Darkness is out soon.

4 “I…hurt for you.” Stars

*Spoilers*

“I’ll give you half a dozen if it makes you happy. I’d love to have children.” True grinned. “Half a dozen?” She laughed. “Okay. Maybe that’s too many but after the sex we just had I’m feeling generous where you’re concerned.”

Oh yeah! True is the 11th book in the New Species Series, and the series is still kicking some major ass. Jeanie is working undercover to help free New Species from labs that have not been busted yet, or so she thinks...... Imagine her surprise when she wakes up in the hospital after being shot during a raid freeing the NS , to find out that she is going to prison, and they believe she is the enemy. Even worse then no one believing her is that 710 now known as True , who she is in love with, who she let herself be torturously experimented on with unknown drugs to keep him alive, is looking at her like she is the enemy , with anger and disgust! How is Jeanie going to win the trust of the man she loves, and prove to everyone that she isn't the bad guy?

“You should see your face,” she whispered. “You’re so sexy when you bite your lower lip and give me that wild look.”

 photo 5-interrogation-room_zpsdklqervn.jpg

True:

 photo images 12_zpssy0nqpcm.jpg

True was very likable . He was sweet, protective, and strong. Like all of the other NS males he is brave and honorable. I liked that he tried not to fight in front of Jeanie, knowing it upset her and controlled his temper well! He also was romantic and had a playful side.

“I belong to you as much as you belong to me. I will always protect you and take care of you. I almost lost you again. You have no idea how it would have destroyed me if those males had taken you from me. I will do everything in my control to make you happy.”

“You took pain for me.” His voice deepened. “You suffered so I could live. I never thought anyone could love me, Jeanie. I will give you so much pleasure to erase the memories of the pain if you’ll allow me.”

Jeanie:

 photo 166170-603x796-bronzeeyes_zpsciivmn7z.jpg

Jeanie was caring with a big heart. She wants to help and do the right thing. She was very sweet, and brave. I loved how much she took care of the NS in the places she worked , how they all had great things to say about her. I also loved the fact that even though she was tenderhearted she still kicked total ass when she needed too!

“You changed my life, True. I think I fell in love with you from the moment I met you and you spoke to me. I didn’t want you to mate with me out of gratitude. I need you to care about me as much as I do you.”

“Fuck you, Jerry. Yeah. I know your name. I saw your picture when they showed me all the men who used to work for the NSO. Director Jerry Boris. You got fired because you were an asshole to Fury’s mate. He said you almost got her killed and tried to take her from him. You just can’t leave mates alone, can you? You took me from mine and guess what? I’m furious.”

 photo tumblr_inline_nf2a5cYaDr1qe3g49_zps0i0k0edl.gif

. “You’re heaven.” Jeanie chuckled. “What a pair. You think I’m heaven and I think you’re a god.” “God, huh?” His hands lowered to firmly grab her ass as he ground his hips upward, sinking into her deeper. “A sex god.”

The plot to this book was very good. I hated the bad guy , Jerry Boris he made the perfect icky bad guy. Loved True and Jeanie as a couple they are very sweet. I loved Breeze again. For real Breeze needs her own damn book she is one of my favs and needs a HEA!! I liked Darkness alot in this book too. Can't wait to see what he is like in his own book which is next! This was a great book in the Series and I am glad that the series is still going strong 11 books in , I am not bored and they are keeping me coming back for more! I will leave my favorite moment below:

“I’m sorry.” It was the only thing she could think to say. He lifted her until they were at the same height and she had no choice but to stare into his eyes. The tears that glistened in them weren’t a surprise. He had to be mortified at what she’d done—almost as much as she was. “For what?” “I lost my shit.” He sniffed. “It smells so bad down here, I can’t tell.” Tiger snorted. “She didn’t have an accident. She is talking about what she did to Boris.” True smiled. “I know. I was teasing. I wanted to get a smile from her. I’m proud of how strong you are, Jeanie. It took strength to attack him and try to force him to tell you about the Gift Female.”

3.5 Stand by your Woman Stars!!!

I'm suppose to protect her but who will keep her safe from me?

True
smiling

True was once a New Species captive, and in love with one of his captors. Jeanie was so sweet and kind, gentle and apologetic. She was very different from all of the doctors and technicians that took pleasure in experimenting on New Species. When True and his fellow captives were rescued, Jeanie hadn't come to work that day. He never thought he would see her again.

Jeanie
description

Jeanie was excited about her new job until she found out it involved the torture of New Species. She was threatened with death and the death of her family if she reported the illegal activities. Jeanie was a fighter and found a way to report the abuse. After the New Species captives were rescued, she was then assigned to another facility to obtain proof that New Species were being held there. Jeanie never suspected that she was a pawn, used by an evil man for monetary gain.

She didn't know that once he started, nothing would stop him from owning her in every way possible.

Years later when raiding a facility suspected to hold New Species, True finds Jeanie, shot and bleeding to death. Saving her life becomes the first of many battles. Because once Jeanie is healed, she is to be sent to Fuller Prison for crimes agains New Species!!

This book was action packed and a fun read. I loved that the couple were so crazy about each other and that their obstacles came from those around them. The love scenes were also pretty hot and sweet.

The 3.5 stars are for all the repetitive conversations that take place. Person A tells person B something. And then I have to read that same damn conversation again when person B tells it to person C. Talk about ANNOYING!! I hate reading the same data over and over. I also hate how the writer still feels the need to over explain New Species' abilities. Yes, we all know that they have a keen sense of smell and hearing. I;m sick of reading about it every 10 pages!!!

5 BUCKING STARS!

Before reading True I was speculating as to which Species he was, I know everyone thought he was 927 but that was cleared up a bit into the book when we find out a bit about True's back story..

True was a male who’d been stolen by some of Mercile’s employees before the facility had been breached to free Species. He’d been located later and recovered with a few dozen others.

Compared to what we know about 927 from a conversation he had with Moon..

“I cared about a human once. I might have done something really foolish if I’d been given the chance to be with her. I was wrong about her being a good female so it didn’t work out for me. Good luck, Moon. Be back before my shift ends so I can let you in. We’ll both be in trouble if they find out I let you go.”

They don't match up at all but if that isn't enough for you, it is explained that True is pretty much a new character from a new facility that is raided in the book so he can't be 927 considering he is already at Homeland in Moon.

I'm not at all disappointed because I read on Laurann's site or blog that all Species character's mentioned will be getting their own book. Woot woot! I'm bloody delighted about that. There are so many character's mentioned that don't have a book yet so this series is looking to be a long one. YES!!!

Okay, down to my actual review. I'm going to try and keep it spoiler free as I possibly can.

I absolutely loved True which isn't much of a surprise since I love all the New Species' books. It's romantic, action packed and hot hot HOT!

All the New Species' books' have similarities, this book reminded me a little of the very first New Species book, Fury, where Fury wanted revenge on Ellie for working at the facility he was kept at.

Jeanie, the leading lady, like Ellie is a fierce character. She is strong and very, very brave. Putting her life at risk to save the Species in the facility she worked at made me take an instant liking to her. I grew even more attached to her as the story progressed and we found out in more detail the things she did to help the Species will working at the facility.

Sometimes I got a little annoyed at how repetitive things were with Jeanie though. I get she is pretty much a saint for helping the Species while she was at the facility, it was why I love her after all, but I didn't really needed to be reminded about it even few pages.

That aside, her 'source' in the book as to why she knew certain information that she shouldn't of known was really interesting as well. It kept me guessing until the very end about who the mysterious 'agent' could be until the person was revealed. I wouldn't have guessed who the bad guy was at all, it really caught me by surprise. I thought it was brilliant the way that particular character was tied into this book when he was from the very book that tied to it with similarities in the first place. I found that very clever.

description

True, our main man..er.. Species, was just a complete sweetheart. Don't get me wrong, he could and would snap bones if he needed to but with Jeanie he was just so caring and sweet. I fell hopelessly in love with their love (when they eventually admitted it) and bond. He is sensitive, beyond hot and all alpha when it comes to Jeanie. They are a brilliant couple and I honestly can't wait for them to have babies, True will be a fab daddy! :)

A side note that also made me beam while reading was seeing all the characters' from previous books. I love in a series when authors' keep the OG (LOL) characters' tied up in the current book so we don't miss them. Love. It!

I'm absolutely living for the next book which I'm buzzing is for Darkness. My God, the way he is described and just his overall presence in True made me latch onto him. I need his book ASAP!!

Favourite quotes & scenes:

Remember that, toga boy.” - Breeze and Shadow

“Remind me to drive next time,” Jinx grumbled. “Slow down!”
“Did you lose your yarn balls, kitten?” Breeze laughed. “This is fun!” - Breeze and Jinx

“Why do you have an unconscious female in your arms? I’m trying not to judge but she smells of fear. Did you scare her enough that she fainted and now you’re pulling a caveman stunt to carry her off to your room to kiss it all better”

“She rolled over and sat up as he bent, tearing off his boots. "Whatcha doing?"
"Getting naked."
"I like that.” - Jeanie and True

Here we go: a True alpha male! He is strong, sexy, protective, and still sweet.

That's right, Tiny. You go on now with your sexy thang!

In this book we have True, a New Species cat-like guy, and Jeannie, a former worker for the pharmaceutical company that held him captive. Jeannie was always kind to the New Species and was in love with True. She started working undercover to take down the facilities that were holding them. So, we start the book with a raid that she is helping with. She saves the New Species' lives and is shot by one of the guards.

But, the problem is that when the Task Force comes to free the New Species, Jeannie is arrested and held prisoner because they've never heard of her. She says she was working for an Agent Brice, but there is no such person. They say she is lying and they are planning to send her to Fuller Prison where the brutality is so bad that she will likely be killed after being raped and beaten.

strange Yelp review!

True wants to believe Jeannie's story, along with all of the freed New Species that knew her. He is not about to let her get taken away and thrown into prison. He plans on taking down this man who tricked Jeannie, and every other person that hurt her.

"I just want to kill all the humans responsible for harming my female and get back to Jeannie as fast as possible."

Okay, this is the best costume ever!

This book has tons of excitement and a great villain. There are so many different things going on that it never dragged and the romance was sweet. Another New Species, Darkness, also made a big appearance in this one and I can't wait for his story. Definitely one of my favorite females in the series too. She totally Home Aloned the bad guys and it was pretty cool.

Truth?!? He was so sweet in Moon and I really want to know about the girl who hurt him, maybe this book is about him getting back with her? I really want to know who this mysterious New Species is, or rather, what he is.

True Love!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💚💜💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 🤓😉🤨😊😎
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Jeanie - she worked in a research facility even after Mercile Industries went down. She fell for one of the research subjects, #710 and one of her vicious coworkers named Dean found out her secret. She was forced to watch #710 be tortured in front of her and couldn’t do anything to stop it without endangering both herself and him even more. She knew her bosses were pure evil and knew that the test subjects were in hell. They were testing new drugs that enhanced healing, and to do that, the guards would severely wound the subjects over and over.

The Story: Lab technicians that disliked how things were run at Jeanne’s facility often disappeared without a trace. Jeanne was secretly trying to get her lab shut down. She had smuggled out evidence and knew if she was caught, the test subjects would be in worse shape. However, when Dean planned to use 710 to test a new drug which would make other subjects feral and hunt him to death, she knew she had to do something. When Dean promised to keep him alive in exchange for her participation in experiments on a new drug that caused excruciating pain.

The Hero: True (a.k.a. 710) - He had fallen for the technician Jeanie while he was in the research facility. He always fought against the technicians and guards. When Dean came to him one day, he tried to get 710 to agree to breed with Jeanie in exchange for him no longer attacking the guards. However, True wouldn’t agree as he knew the breeding drug would make him feral and he might harm Jeanie and Dean told 710 Jeanie was the one perfecting the drug. 710 thought she had betrayed him.

Jeanie had helped set up the rescue at the facility and a year later she was at another facility where she set up another rescue. By this time, True was on the task force which rescued New Species from new facilities they found. He finds Jeanie hurt in the facility and makes sure she gets help. Though he wants to be there for her interrogation.

The story was really good but there were quite a few plot holes that I was hoping to be filled. Especially when it came to the prison where the people that get caught at the research facilities are sent. I don’t want to go into the specific plot holes as it would give away too much of the story, but there were questions I wanted answers to and none of the characters asked those questions, when it seemed obvious to me. Though despite the plot holes, this was one of my favorites so far.

This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Vanessa Chambers. Vanessa’s voice is soft and feminine. She is awesome at doing different voices for different characters and I have been binging this series for nearly a week now and haven’t gotten sick of her narration yet. I plan to go right through the rest of the series as well.

**re-read**, love this one
I counted the days waiting impatiently and anxiously for this book. I found myself not reading anything long just before this book was released because noting else was what I wanted. I stayed up waiting for my pre-order to be delivered. I started this book the second I could(after I squealed when I saw it had delivered) and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!.

I was so mad when I finished this book knowing I would have to wait. I love the New Species series I have read it multiple times it's a series I find myself going back to and wishing other authors could write Paranormal romance so well. I want Darkness's book yesterday but to be honest I just want another Laurann Dohner book. Why must authors make us wait, do they think of us as their children who need to learn patients;} ?

True has a soft spot in his heart for Jeanie she was always kind to him when he was held prisoner, till he found out she was just trying to get on his good side so that she could use him for another experiment. Now free True works with the task force. Jeanie always loved True and did everything she could to help make his hell of a life bearable till the director found out and blackmailed her, her body for Trues life. What no one knew was that when Jeanie found out what was going on she called the NSO and has been working for them ever since. She successfully help free True and the others at the facility. Now on the day of another facilities raid and against orders Jeanie came to help.

When the NSO comes storming in Jeanie is shot and captured, but most of all she is shocked to see True. Even though True should hate Jeanie for what she did to him seeing her brings back old memories and he can't sit by watching her being sent to prision even though she works for a company keeping New Species. When Jeanie wakes up and claims to be working with the NSO they know she is lying but True can't stop himself from defending her and trying to protect her. True has the task of proving Jeanie's story to be true while he finds himself falling back in love with Jeanie. But someone wants Jeanie dead and even with all of the precautions the NSO puts up to keep her safe Jeanie keeps finding herself in danger, now True will stop at nothing to keep his mate not only safe but his forever.

I loved this book, I started it and didn't want to put it down, I found myself reading through it too fast and wanting to slow down so I could prolong my LD fix. And then I found myself shocked that I was finished and more than a little sad(**NOTE** according to my kindle I had 10% left when the story ends:( ). Laurann Dohner has a way with words that takes you into her stories, I was completely wrapped up in this book. I didn't want to cook, clean, pick up children:} I didn't want to do anything but be wrapped up in this greatstory.

I loved True and Jeanie. True was yet again another fanfreakingtastic LD hero. I loved how controlling and possessive he was. Jeanie was it for him, there was no one else but her, and he willingly fought to keep her. This is another great addition to this series that not only hasn't slowed down or dragged but has sped up and only gotten better. This is another Laurann Dohner book that I cringe at giving 5 stars to because it deserves so much more but since that is as high as I am allowed to give this book I will, just know that I think this book deserves way more than 5.

4 True Stars

As much as I liked this book I did feel it dragged just a little bit.

I liked the fact that it was the NSO against the humans in a way and that they wanted to police themselves.
There was a lot of action in this book; I really dug that like a lot! I again like that Jeanie worked with New Species even if they thought she was the bad guy.

I think True and Jeanie are perfect for each other his protection of her was so sweet. I wasn't a big fan of Tim O'Bearto in this book but I get where he was coming from totally. But I didn't have to like it.

Let’s see Jeanie was cunning and a forward thinker I enjoyed that she wasn't a weak character at all she didn't just let things go. She fought; she really was the right mate for True.

Again I am going to gush I love the narrator!! She does such a good job I am beyond happy <3
Credit worthy heck yes!

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

This review can also be found on my blog: A Match Made in Heaven

I really loved this book! It was just what I needed! I hated that I had caught up and now need to wait in between New Species books, but this was worth the wait.

I really loved Jeanie. She was pretty bad ass. She had so much inner strength and she was so brave. She fought for the NS like almost none other. She is such an amazing champion for them. She is fearless. The story surrounding her and the mysterious Terry Brice was different and fascinating. This still had the usual NS mandatory kidnappings :P, but it was very different circumstances and it really drew me in with the mystery of it and what was really going on. I couldnt put it down.

I also really loved True. He was a bit softer than most NS. Still very dominating, but also a little insecure and just so sweet. He was a great character and he was wonderful to Jeanie. A complete sweetheart. They are a wonderful couple and I am incredibly happy for them. I cant wait until they have children! He's gonna be such an awesome father!

I was so sad when I finished this book. I didnt want it to end. And although I enjoyed the softer side of True, I still cannot wait to read about Darkness next, one of the most intimidating and "darkest" NS there are. That must be why he chose that name, because he feels like Mercile ripped out his heart and left nothing but darkness behind. But he has a heart, and some incredible woman is going to discover that. Wow! She is gonna be amazing. I cant wait!

4 enthralling stars!

I have always had a profound love for L. Dohner's New Species series. And one of the many things that's so compelling about this series is that Laurann Dohner never disappoints when it comes to delivering hot as hell jealous and possessive alpha caveman heroes, and True is no exception! He was exactly as his name implies: he was genuine and honest, not to mention possessive and will do anything to protect his mate from danger. I love the connection between him and Jeanie (both emotional and sexual) and the sex scenes were off-the-charts hot.

There was just something irresistibly and intensely hot about the primal need of an alpha male to claim his mate, and Dohner gives us something to swoon over. Yep, these alpha males indeed! It's so nice to catch up with the other characters, too, to think that it has been a while since I have read the previous books.

I really enjoyed this book. True was jealous, possessive and protective: he would growl and snarl at other men, even start a fight with males who would flirt with his mate. But for me the book wasn't as good though as Dohner's other New Species books eg. Fury, Valiant. That aside, it was still a stellar read. I was absorbed right from the very first page, and the next thing I know I was already halfway done with it. Dohner truly has a way with writing in her books that will leave you desperate to know what's next, and you know that you couldn't put it down because almost every scene is gripping.

Danger is always inevitable in this series so I know what to expect. In fact almost every book has the same story line and plot twists, but I honestly couldn't quite care less. I still couldn't get enough of these alpha men. And I can't wait to read Darkness' book.

Rating: 4 stars.
POV: 3rd person. Dual POV.
Series: 11th book in the New Species series. Can be read as standalone.
Cliffhanger: No.

I promise this book was updated. Because everything I hated about this one during my first read, was some how not present this time around. The flow, the events, all of it was tighter and flowed organically. I LOVED IT! 😍 It's like I was reading a completely new/different book.. So I had to update this one to 5*****

**Mild Spoilers**

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is by far my least fave book out of this series. Granted these books aren't what I would call truly deep stories/or plots, or even characters. But they always seemed to have just enough of what I liked or gone deep enough, in order for me to over look everything else that may be wrong. Sadly, that's not the case here.

The main character True, I love. I love everything about his character. Those of you who have followed this series knows that there is not much else or new that I can say about a New Species character like True, so when I say that he's beyond awesome, hot, sweet, endearing & sexy, you can appreciate it, right? So he's the reason why this book got 4 stars from me. Now, onto why everything else failed for me in the 11th installment of this series...

How many times is the author going to have other Species barging into another's apartment when they are having sex or trying to? This has happened every single time since book 1. How many times is security gonna be breached at Homeland or Reservation? She keeps stating how secure this place is by showing you all the guards & trained associates/high tech security they have. Yet in every single book, people are still able to sneak in undetected until its too late.
 photo 881872_zps129bc3f8.gif

As you can see, I'm sick of these scenarios. Then there is his mate, Jeanie, she ( the author) was getting on my nerves with the constant references of how many Species Jeanie has helped while in captivity. I got it the 3rd time it was mentioned. I get it. The woman is a saint. Move the plot along already. And how many times was she force drugged? Even after she was rescued & taken to Homeland. There's no way she could have taken all those drugs back to back without any side affects or dying. (Heck most of those drugs killed some of the New Species or caused them to be ill.) Especially when we are constantly reminded how fragile she is & the fact that she's human. Yet nothing happened to her. I mean she didn't even throw up. None of that was believable to me.

And the fact of why her boss used that breeding drug on her wasn't really touched on til like 63% in the book. By that time the explanation & the way it came about just fell flat for me. So it all left me like...
 photo 881944_zpsfa48d572.gif

The mating.. You would not have to convince me to legally mate someone like True but when it also came to the practical aspect of her predicament, (Keeping her out of prison til she was proved innocent) This is me running to get those damn mating papers...
 photo tumblr_lp9o95P3Z81qlnvco.gif
We'll cross the bridge of "Does he really love me?" later, even though it's painfully obvious that he already does.
But still, here is Jeanie denying to embrace her common sense in this matter...

*rolls eyes*

Because of all this, it also took me forever to finish this book. Usually I fly through these stories. But it was bound to happen. I can't love them all. Just surprised by how much I was bothered by this one. If you follow this series I would say read it. You may like it. I didn't though.

Will I be back for book 12, "Darkness"? You better believe it. I was quite intrigued with him. But I already know who he's going to end up with, from the way things played out here. That doesn't stop me from being curious to see how it unfolds though. I pray Ms. Dohner that Darkness' story unfolds much better than True's did.

Not an enjoyable read, just the opposite.
I did not care much for this book. It was painfully drawn out from unceasing kidnapping plots to multiple villains to unceasing evil-doers. They just never stopped coming. Cut off the head and another one grew. The drugs, the forced-mating, the intricate technical details of it all and the discussion of it. The tunnels (all of a sudden Homeland is not safe, it never was!!), the catacombs, the prison, the warden, the task force humans who keep accusing anyone and everyone, the utterly vulnerable heroine who keeps getting taken and thrown about like a doll. The hero was always somehow unaware or drugged or out running because he had a tantrum. I think next there are going to be lasers from space and more gawd-help-us evil plots, that I can't even imagine, that will be thrown into this awful mixture of plots and subplots in the future. I would not be surprised if the theme went psy- as so many authors love to do nowadays. And the discussions, the conversations at the most ridiculous moments. When the heroine-mate is kidnapped is when all the tough guy heroes need to stop and chat about it, who should go first and who is the mate and who is good at interrogation. When the heroine is drugged is the time for everyone to bring up issues of whether she is innocent or guilty and more blah blah blah. The whole rotten mess was awful. LD used to be a favorite author for me but after her last few books, this is no longer true.

I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. Mostly I felt there was nothing really different here. We've already had a story where someone who worked in the labs fell in love with a NS and met them afterwards and he didn't like her at first. And here he didn't hate her very much nor had he loved her very much while in captivity. It seemed a book of so so feelings. I didn't really get much tension or passion between the two of them. They declared their love at the drop of a hat it seemed like.

The plot wasn't as tight as I would have liked. It felt like things were being forced to fit the actions of the characters or something. There were several bits of unbelievability that I had trouble with. The existence of tunnels throughout the whole complex that the NS guys didn't know about? How convenient. Really the whole plan that the bad guy had was not real well thought out. Why would he need her to be in place for as long as he did before he turned the info over to the NS for blackmail? Truth is he wouldn't have needed to but it made her more pitiful so let's add it in. There were other wishy washy elements also but you get the gist.

There were too many sex scenes in this one. I found myself wishing the author would just fade to black. LD sometimes has just the right amount of sex and sometimes too much. I felt like there wasn't enough story here. So sex ended up being pretty much a filler.

The book also seemed to drag on. What's the point in a romance in having left over story after the two main characters declare their love? The climax of both the action plot and the romance plot should build together and pretty much finish together. This isn't real life, it's fiction and fiction is stronger if the classic elements of story telling are not ignored.

All that being said, I did enjoy the book and look forward to more. I just hope that LD thinks outside the box next time and elevates her plot. Get off of Sanctuary and the Reservation for heavens sake.

I liked this one a lot, but not as much as Fury or Slade. True was an okay character, but I felt like Darkness stole the show. Hopefully we will be seeing his book next.

The plot was pretty good; however, the ease with which the bad guys kept infiltrating Homeland kind of irked me. I mean, come on, you are supposed to be alpha bad asses with a locked down government facility and the tracking instincts of predatory animals. It shouldn't be so easy!

Other than that, I liked this one much more than some of her more recent showings, e.g., Wrath and Moon.

TRUE & JEANIE

Although the storyline of the book is fantastic and I believe one of the most imaginative of the NS books, it is a very difficult reread for me. This is a result of two reasons:
1.NSs and Task force members are behaving like assholes, torturing and abusing sweet innocent Jeanie and this is hard to witness.
2. When the devastating truth comes out about how Jeanie was played, my heart was broken and it was not easy to continue reading. And now I already know the truth.

Finally finished True. Then re-read it because I just couldn't help myself. I think of all the New Species True has to be my new favourite....for now. This book did cement my hate for Tim. I can understand he wants to be cautious, but holy crap calm down. He has serious issues he needs to address. He flies off the handle at the drop of a hat. I almost hope he gets a book of his own so we can find out why. But back to True....I read it in 2 days, I couldn't put it down and I will read it over and over. It seems to get better everytime I pick it up. Now I just have to wait for Darkness.

This is the 11th book from the New Species series, and in my opinion; a series that is still going strong. I love everything about this series, down to the extreme alpha maless, hot sex, and sweet romance. Laurann Dohner has in my opinion, always wrote a sex scene like nobody's business! They are hot and always get me in the mood to find my hubby!!LOL The thing that I love most about these books is how the New Species males have such a child like outlook on how they percieve life and the people in it. I find it very endearing and it brings out their vulnerability quite nicely; even though they are so rough and tough. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it softens their harsh edges! They may come across as bossy, but they do it in a way that isn't hurtful, and you know they want the best for their potential mate.

In this installment we have True, who in captivity was known as #710. He is canine, and extremely big and very kind. There was a worker who he had a soft spot for that was named Jeannie. She may have been on the staff of the cruel jailers that held the New Species; but she always did something kind for them. She treated them with respect that no other staff members felt "the animals" deserved. Unfortunately, one of the big boss guys picked up on the attraction between 710 and Jeannie, and exploited them both because of it. Soon Jeannie was forced to take a breeding drug, that they had never given humans; and 710 was taken somewhere else.

Many years later, Jeannie helped the New Species become saved; but ended up being picked up by the NSO. They figured because she was part of the staff that were cruel, she should be held in their jail. 710, who is now known as True comes face to face with his attraction from long ago;but he thinks that she betrayed him. An investigation is formed around this female because alot of the Species believe that she was all good, and someone had set her up to take a fall for something that she had no part of. Once True realizes that she is not the enemy, their attraction flares up again. Sparks fly between True and Jeannie, but there are people out there who want to silence her. True wants to protect her by mating her; and yet even though Jeannie loves him, doesn't want him mating her for the wrong reasons.
Will love conquer all, or will the enemies win and take Jeannie away from a life that she would be quite content to lead?

This is their story, and it is full of action, and of course lots of great sex! There is also the added bonus of seeing a lot of the old faces from past books, as well as we are introduced to some new ones too. The New Species series is one that I will always be eager to await the next book that comes out. Ms Dohner has done a beautiful job of blowing this series wide open again, with lots of new characters and some new circumstances as well. I can't wait for Darkness's book, and I am hoping that he will be up next!

 photo download1_zps9d5195ef.jpg

This is a good addition to the series and what I liked the most about it was True…I was a bit surprised him getting his book before some of the other characters – after all we only had a bit of info on him in the last two books…but hey…he’s a great guy. Naturally, he’s HOT, sexy, sweet and TOTALLY TOTALLY endearing…

SO BEYOND AWESOME!!!!!!

I was a bit irritated with Jeannie.- all that “I helped the Species” thing, - in fact she drove me batty a lot of the times.

But then, Breeze comes in….I love this chick….she’s totally FABULICIOUS!!!! She has the best lines ever in the series. When do we get her book??????
“Remind me to drive next time,” Jinx grumbled. “Slow down!”
“Did you lose your yarn balls, kitten?” Breeze laughed. “This is fun!”
A lot of characters from previous books make an appearance……just love keeping track of these wonderful Species…I have become quite attached to them……and then Darkness!!! I can’t wait for his book, which is the next one in this series.

My first audio book. I found it really hard to not get distracted while listening to this. It probably takes practice to be able to focus on the story and do at least one other thing, which I find necessary otherwise I'll fall asleep. Anyway, I really enjoyed Ms. Dohner's New Species series. It's been a long while since I've read Moon, #10. Unfortunately, I must admit the plot felt a bit "samey" to me--human girl crush on resentful but hot Species--and I've read much better by her.

OMG ... It's sooooo sad ... I finished it too soon.
I couldn't put it down, the story is so emotional. I cried a lot when reading the first 5 chapters, and I smiled a lot.
Sex is hot and Jeanie and True ... are so amazing when together !

I won't tell more but there is a great suspense, and we learn more about Darkness...

And now I have a lot of withdrawal symptoms and it hurts. I want the next book in the serie ... no ... the next BOOKS in the serie ... all the books !

my first reading was full of tears ... so i thought that maybe the second reading would have less tears ... no, i cried all the same !!!

Excerpt from True (From the author's fb page)

Excerpt #1

“I tried to save them all. Did they make it? Did they all survive?”

He blinked. “They made it. No Species died.”

Tears blinded her but she blinked them back, desperate to keep looking at him. She’d succeeded in saving all the men and women trapped inside the building. It had come at a high price but she had known the risks when she’d driven to work that morning. So many of them—their lives were more important than hers. She closed her eyes and a sense of peace came, blocking out some of the pain.

“Shiver?” He growled her name. “Open your eyes.”

The demand was one she couldn’t resist as she peered at him again. He’d inched closer until his warm breath fanned her lips. Breathing took effort as she struggled to make her lungs keep functioning. Blood loss and her body going into shock took its toll. She hoped she smiled when she tried, wanting to convey to him that it was okay.

“Don’t die,” he rasped. “Hang on.” He glanced away. “Faster!” His tone deepened. “Get over here.”

“Move!” A man yelled and something heavy clattered to the floor behind her. The coat she wore was jerked, material tore, and she couldn’t prevent the whimper when gloved hands explored her now-exposed side.

“You will be fine.” 710 drew her focus. “Just stay with me.” He nearly crushed her smaller hand with his, as if he could force the issue by clinging to her tighter.

“Shit,” the medic cursed.

“Fix her,” 710 snarled.

“It’s bad,” the medic answered. “Jed, get your ass over here. Open the kit and start an IV.”

Her mouth opened. She didn’t have the energy to tell 710 any of the things she always wanted to say if they’d ever been alone without the risk of being overheard by Dean Polanitis or the people who’d worked for him. It was important that 710 understood how he’d changed her life and made her realize her purpose was to save his kind. He was the motivation that had given her the courage to conquer her fears. Not a day had passed since she’d laid eyes on him that he hadn’t filled her thoughts or haunted her dreams.

“Shiver,” he said a little louder, “stay with me.”

Blackness claimed her.

Excerpt #2

The doctor stomped out of the room and True relaxed, looking at the primate male, Jericho. “Thank you.”

The other male shrugged. “My job is to protect and keep her safe. I fail if she dies.” He glanced at the bed. “I heard she once worked where you were held.”

“She did.”

“You want her to survive to experience the suffering you once lived? Fuller prison is run by humans. She’ll learn to regret all she’s done.”

“She wasn’t like the other technicians.” His gaze studied Shiver, resisting the urge to step closer.

“How so?”

He hesitated. “She wasn’t callous or cruel.”

“A polite technician?”

True shrugged. “She was different.”

“How?”

The questions began to annoy him but he owed the male a debt. He faced him, crossing his arms over his chest. “She brought me pain pills without the guard’s knowledge a few times after I suffered severe beatings. She also sneaked in candy, saying it was Christmas. I didn’t know what that meant at the time but I liked the sweetness of it. No one had ever given me a gift before.”

The male’s eyes widened, revealing more of the red in the irises. “What did she want in return?”

True looked at her. “She asked for nothing.”

“Odd. Mercile never did anything without a motive.”

“Yes.”

“She escaped when you were rescued?”

“She wasn’t there. I reviewed the statements taken from all employees that were captured. She’d called in sick that day.”

“That was unfortunate.”

“Not for her.” True couldn’t stay across the room anymore and dropped his arms to his sides, drawing closer to Shiver. “She remained free to work in another place our people were kept.”

“She was finally captured.”

And almost killed. He kept silent.

“I’ll return to the hall.” Jericho paused by the door. “You might want to hide your emotions better.”

He spun around. “What does that mean?”

The male cocked his head, staring back at him. “You should be filled with rage but that’s not what I see when you look at her. She’s little and pretty, despite the bruising. Don’t forget what she is and where she comes from. That’s not a female you should trust.” His lips curved into a smile. “You’d have to keep her in front of you at all times to be sure she doesn’t strike when your back is turned. You want to mount her.”

“I don’t.” His temper flared.

The primate had the nerve to outright grin. “Humans have a saying that is appropriate right now. You protest too strongly. That means your anger comes from knowing that what I say is right.” He stalked out of the room.

Jeanie And True. Le sigh. These two were dreamy together. I know that’s a must in a romance series but seriously. They belonged together. Too bad everyone could tell. Including the awful boss who then used it against them. Man this book had some serious villains in it. Awful people. Almost too evil to be real. Ex-director Boris makes an appearance, the same awful human from book one. Darkness is introduced big time which is fitting since the next book is his. There’s so much action and more stuff happens. There’s slight miscommunication due to evil villains keeping them apart. Their time together makes up for it though. I absolutely loved the New Species community in this story. They stole the show for me. Their secret meetings at the library. It felt so Order of the Phoenix/Dumbledore's Army type of meeting. It was so nice to see the New Species work together and form groups and just be awesome together. They’re already awesome but this made them seem more human and so smart. I loved them.

By the way I almost died reading this part. I actually choked laughing so hard.

“I'm sorry." "For what?” “I lost my shit.” He sniffed. “It smells so bad down here, I can’t tell.” Tiger snorted. “She didn’t have an accident. She is talking about what she did to Boris.” True smiled. “I know. I was teasing. I wanted to get a smile from her.”

Since New Species is very literal and is adjusting to English slang I thought True really thought she shit herself. I laughed way to hard, for way too long, after I could breathe again of course. Who says fart/poop jokes aren’t funny. Not me.

Another hit from LD, I cant get enough of New Species. The premise is quite similar to the first book of the series Fury where a technician working for the bad guys develops feelings for a test patient. She then works from the inside to try to free them but unfortunately gets mistaken for said bad guys. I really liked True he was really sweet but cautious with his heart. I think he was scared of getting hurt. Jeanie was adorable and wanted only the best for True...even if it wasn't her. Loved Midnight and hopes she gets a book of her own. She is involved with a human and I want to explore that some more. Maybe we'll see if females can get impregnated by human men...just my theory. Can't wait for Darkness who's up next.

Is True 927? I guess we'll find out.

True was a male who’d been stolen by some of Mercile’s employees before the facility had been breached to free Species. He’d been located later and recovered with a few dozen others.

(Excerpt From: Laurann, Dohner. Moon.)

Seems like 927's situation... Tammy wasn't mentioned in that description but it was a quite small one so its still possible.

The name also makes sense... Tammy was in the cell with him and she told him about the New Species... Which turned out to be completely true... So True fits.

I may be looking too far into this but I can't seem to shake my hope that True turns out to be 927. I want to know how his new life is and I want to know if Tammy and him have a friendship going or if Valiant would even allow that to go on.

Regardless if it is 927 or not I would be happy with any character to be completely honest. Love this series and can't wait :)

~~~~~~~~
Sadly True didn't turn out to be 927... But who cares? This book lives up to the New Species standard and is completely awesome!
True was amazing and so honest like his name. What Jeanie did for him just broke my heart but showed her love for him in the most unselfish way. I loved how they were so upfront with each other. Its so refreshing to read stories without the drama and misunderstandings that just bring me down. Loyal honest and steadfast heroes are what you'll find in Laurann Dohner books. Mate, possess and protect in any order makes me love them so much. I can't wait to start the next.
