This Feels Like Home: Inspirations for Finding Peace

Rate this book
Turn your anxieties, fears, and worries into blessings.

Amidst the loneliness and uncertainty of this world, we all long for a place to go where we feel welcomed and loved. A place where our problems fade into the distance and we are met with peace, contentment, and glimpses of joy. A place where we can feel that everything is going to be OK. In her debut devotional, Autumn Schoeck invites you to sit down, feel normal, and stay awhile. Not because of who she is but because of who Jesus is. He welcomes you, arms wide open, to sit and rest in His presence, in a space where you can be introduced or reacquainted with the simplest notion—that Jesus loves you. In This Feels Like Home, Autumn wraps you up in the comforting promises of God, shares stories of faith, and gives you the words to pray on your hardest days. This book feels like the warm hug you’ve been needing. So come in, put your feet up, and accept the love and reassurance that you were born to receive.

Autumn Schoeck is an author, photographer, bible-study leader and lover of all things Jesus. Through laughter and tears she seeks to remind everyone how much they are loved and adored. At home in St. Louis, she is a wife to Andy and a mom to Sydney and Ben.

“Whether your life is seemingly problem free or beset by challenges, loneliness, doubts, or heartache, Autumn invites you to find hope, peace, encouragement, refreshment, and meaning. With honesty and transparency, Autumn's words speak to the heart as she leads all into the arms of Jesus, the ultimate burden-bearer, need-meeter, soul-uplifter, redeemer.”

—Sharon Shearman, Director of Family Ministry, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Des Peres, MO

“In a world where so many people feel like they have no friends, Autumn invites ”her friends” and others like them to consider how friendship with God could be life changing. This uplifting collection of real life struggles and joys connects us to the deeper meaning and sustainable sources of support in the gospel. Read it each morning with your cup of coffee or stretch out in a hammock and soak in these reflections for your soul.“

—Hugh Barlett, Senior Pastor, Chesterfield Presbyterian Church, Chesterfield, MO

“Having known Autumn for almost 20 years, I can confidently say her new book is true-Autumn—where she has been and where she hopes more of us can explore with her. She takes us to a place where love rules—rather than fear. A place in our hearts and actions that is so freeing—as she says, "Hey sis, you are significant, but you aren’t sovereign." I devoured this book, which showed me that Autumn knew I needed to drink these words and renew my spirit. Read, feel, and know you are not alone.”

This book tackled a whole multitude of lies we tell ourselves and the way God answers them in love. This book was reassuring in a lot of ways, some of which being:

"It has been said that one's greatest 'tests' often becomes their 'testimony' of faith."

"If God cannot sin, then He can't sin against you."

"Our salvation was dependent on His [Jesus] silence."

"The biggest thing standing in the way of our prayer life is pride."

"Your inability to keep the commandments does not render you a failure; it renders you in need of a Savior."

"The more tattered and torn your tapestry is, the more approachable you become and the more reputable your story. Struggle is our great equalizer."

All great nuggets to apply to life but I do wish they went deeper and it wasn't just a taste of good theology work. Although, by keeping it simple it does make the book very approachable. But my biggest qualm was the use of the word "Sis". Girl!!! The author spits a fire bar, but it starts with the word "Sis" and it completely takes me away from how rich her words were. It's an intelligently written book, so I wish it would shine as such instead of being dumbed down by that word.

But other than that, great read and very applicable!

Book Review: This Feels Like Home: Inspirations for Finding Peace by Autumn Schoeck

As an avid reader who craves both literary depth and soul nourishment, Schoeck’s debut devotional felt like stumbling upon a sunlit chapel in the middle of a chaotic week. This isn’t just a book—it’s an experience of radical hospitality, one that gently dismantles the lie that spiritual comfort requires performative piety.

Emotional Resonance & Reading Journey
From the first page, Schoeck’s voice wraps around you like a well-worn quilt—warm, familiar, yet stitched with hard-won wisdom. Her vulnerability about personal struggles creates immediate intimacy, as if she’s pulled up a chair beside you rather than preaching from a pedestal. The devotional’s structure—alternating between Scripture reflections, autobiographical snippets, and guided prayers—mirrors the rhythm of a late-night heart-to-heart with a trusted friend.

What surprised me most was how the simplicity of the message (“Jesus loves you”) landed with fresh weight. One entry about finding holiness in ordinary moments (a steamy cup of tea, a child’s laughter) brought me to quiet tears—not from dramatic prose, but from its piercing clarity about sacredness in the mundane.

Constructive Feedback
-Depth vs. Breadth: While the 30-day format is accessible, certain themes (like wrestling with doubt) deserved deeper excavation. A few entries felt truncated just as they began to resonate.
-Cultural Inclusivity: The “home” metaphor leans heavily on cozy domesticity; expanding this to include diverse experiences of belonging (e.g., singlehood, urban living) could widen its reach.
-Practical Scaffolding: The prayers are beautiful, but readers craving actionable steps might benefit from occasional journaling prompts or reflection questions.

Why It Lingers
Schoeck’s genius lies in her restraint—she never weaponizes Scripture as a band-aid for pain, but lets it breathe as a companion through it. The book’s title became my reality; by Day 7, I found myself reaching for it not out of obligation, but because it did feel like coming home.

Thank you to the publisher and Goodreads Giveaways for this grace-filled gift. For readers who adored Grace Is Enough’s tenderness or Savoring the Peace of Jesus’ quiet wisdom, This Feels Like Home offers a fresh, feminine-voiced addition to the devotional canon.

Rating: 4.8/5 (A near-perfect balm for weary souls—would benefit from slightly more structural diversity.)

Note: Schoeck’s background as a photographer shines in her vivid imagery—each entry feels like a carefully composed still life of grace.

I love that the author recommends reading in any order, whatever seems most relevant for where the reader is and what he/she needs. I also appreciate the daily readings not being dated so I don't feel guilty if I get behind. Each reading is a quick story that starts with a verse and finishes with a prayer. I prefer to read one each day so I can consider what I've read throughout my day.

Reading This Feels Like Home by Autumn Schoeck felt like being wrapped in a warm, gentle reminder that God’s presence is always near. The tone is soft and inviting, almost like a friend sitting with you during a hard season and quietly pointing you back to peace.

What I loved most was how approachable it is. The reflections are simple yet meaningful, and I didn’t feel pressured to follow a strict plan — I could just open the book and find encouragement right where I needed it. It reminded me that peace isn’t something we chase, it’s something we can rest in when we let God meet us in our messy moments.

That said, it’s not a “deep study” type of devotional. If you’re looking for heavy theology or a challenge to push you, this might not be the one. But if you need comfort, a gentle reset, or a reminder that you’re never too far gone to find peace, this book definitely delivers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 stars) — A heartfelt, comforting devotional that makes you slow down and breathe again.

Inspirational and funny at times

#Goodreadsgiveaway
I very much enjoyed this book. I loved how it was divided into a Biblical quote and then a discussion of what that meant in Autumn's life, which sometimes was amusing. Then she ended each section with a prayer to God. This book would be good for anyone who already believes in God or those who only believe in Jesus with a mustard seed of belief. I am very happy to have won this book.

Won a kindle copy via Goodreads giveaway, and this wasn’t it for me. SUUUUUUPER heavy on the religion which isn’t my jam. Perhaps I misunderstood when I read the book synopsis, but I thought this was going to be a self-help book minus the heavy emphasis on religion. Maybe I misread, maybe I was misled but either way this was a solid nope.

These well-written devotionals went straight from the heart of God to mine as I read them. I drew inspiration from these short but rich daily readings . In addition, I knew that what the author wrote came from her heart and own relationship with the Lord Jesus. Each devotional, in my opinion, is appropriate for believers and those who are on a journey to know God.

I wasn’t sure what I was walking into when I began this book. Where I landed was a peaceful place where it felt like Autumn and I had shared coffee and conversation. Her humility and honesty create a safe space to read her words and relate them to your struggles. Thank you for sharing your faith in a non-preachy way.

Good devotional for women

This is a good devotional, though I wish it dug deeper into the Bible but it did provide a verse each day so I read the whole chapters of them.

Thank you GoodReads, Autumn E. Schoeck & River Grove Books for this eBook.
I had originally given this book 4/5⭐️, but I’ve updated it to 5⭐️, simply because this devotional hasn’t failed me. Though I haven’t been consistent with reading it every day, day to day you will find this is a short, easy read, and it definitely helps you ponder more about whatever you’re having a hard time // struggling with, and trust in God and His plans.
