The Druid's Bindings

Rate this book
Ailith is in the middle of a heist when a mysterious figure breaks into the same vault and unleashes a deadly magical disease upon the world.

But the disease proves to be only the start of her problems. Haunting her every step is the devil Arkhael, who tries to tempt her into signing an infernal contract—her services as a thief in exchange for the cure.

Staying one step ahead of the devil and not giving in to his honeyed words becomes harder and harder as her time starts running out and the disease becomes more aggressive. Aware that not just her life but her very soul might be at stake, Ailith faces an impossible trying to beat the devil at his own game.

M. Vixen

Storytelling is something M. Vixen (she/they) has done since she was old enough to speak. As a child she would retell stories she had heard until she was old enough to create her own. Living in Scotland with the love of her life, her overly active imagination combined with the beauty of Scotland's wild nature now feeds her passion for romantic fantasy and her ongoing Dungeons & Dragons campaign.

When she is not writing or daydreaming, she can usually be found doing one of her too many hobbies. She loves spending time with her love, prepping her next DnD sessions, painting miniatures, touching moss, reading (although she still has not recovered from Robin Hobb), feeding the local wildlife, or caring for her runt (said with love!) of a snake Jörmungandr, who is practising hard to eat the world one day.

I'm a great lover of fantasy and Romance is a guilty pleasure. Yet, this is my first “romantasy” experience. I think the Druid’s Bindings has it has spoiled me as its bloody excellent.

I love the characters, the magic, the story; it made me not want to put it down which is the first time I felt that from a book in years. The relationships between the characters feel real and the spicier scenes are written well, by someone who clearly understands how to write those moments. I will admit a “Oh my” or two may have involuntarily left my lips on reading them in the best way.

I can't recommend this book enough for those who enjoy a great story, fantasy and becoming invested in the relationship of two fictional characters to the point of thinking about them long after I put the book down. It even has a map and maps just add to the sexiness.

After a BIG hiatus on reading Fantasy in general, I broke the dry spell so to say... By dipping my toes into the world of Fantasy Romance, seeing its all the rage, and this is the perfect start to what will now probably be an obsession.

I was drawn in by the characters and how they interacted with each other and how they reacted and engaged with the world around them. The heist to start things off really set the vibe in a very "Thieves going for a routine job get caught up in something WAY out of their league and have to somehow survive" followed by a "Beautiful stranger offers a way out, they only need to make a deal" kind of way... To say at this point I was only a few chapters in..... and it had me INVESTED in the fate of these thieves.

I'm not normally one to full send a book but I couldn't put it down, each chapter giving me that "oh just one more I need to know what's next" feeling. I. WAS. HOOKED.

Wasn't ready for the emotional damage brought on by some of the later chapters (But I wont spoil).
The story is steeped in classic fantasy tropes and ttrpg elements which means I got to enjoy little extra "If you know you know" moments or references that let me connect with the story even more.

All this and that's before, or I suppose during all of the very well written spice.... Which I wasn't expecting to come away with the idea that a partner with horns to hold onto was for me....
In all seriousness, the way the Spice was written was so natural and not cringy like some examples I've seen.. Very much leaving room for the imagination to flourish.

The entire read from start to finish had me lost in a fantasy world rooting for characters that were on the darker grey side of the moral compass, and I was completely infatuated with them. Without Spoiling too much...every interaction between the two main characters had me floored every time

All this really to say that this book has LITTERALLY got me back into reading again and it will hold a special place on my bookshelf while I wait for M. Vixens next book <3

Heat Factor: It’s a pretty steamy read

Character Chemistry: He’s a devil and she’s an unspecified magic user and the entire premise of their relationship is based on tricks and coercion but it works?

Plot: Ailith, a magical thief, is coerced by a devil into stealing an object of value from a difficult location. Despite her better judgment, Ailith and Arkhael begin a forbidden relationship with a lot of painful whoopie.

Overall: If you like a lot of action, but not the explosions and battle sequence kind, this could be your jam—but be prepared for some frustrating plot holes (if there isn’t a sequel)…

For someone that doesn't usually read romantasy, this book definitely catapulted me into the deep-end. The Druid's Bindings completely drew me in from the start. It's well written with great character development and the shifting perspectives perfectly capture the uncertainty and thrill of early love, where we're often left confused about the other person's true feelings.

As the cover might suggest, there is plenty of spice present in the book. As someone who doesn't usually read such books, I was worried that these would be irking. However, my worries were unfounded as these sections are written in a (super?)natural way and with good taste!

The first half of the book is fast-paced, with short, addictive chapters that make it hard to put down. The second half of the book at first slowed down slightly, mirroring the character's confused state at that point in the book. Soon, however, the story and romance deepened, leading to some truly beautifully written passages that at times left me in awe. The characters are compelling and leave you wondering about your own morals if faced with such devilish dilemmas.

In short, the book is a good blend of adventure, emotion, desire, and fantasy - I cannot wait for the sequel!

This book starts as a DND-esque fantasy adventure, as a party of theives seek a magical item for a devil. However, it quickly becomes a romantasy, with plenty of steamy scenes.
The characters are different and interesting, with unusual backstories. Some could be more 3D and detailed, but the main characters are realistic and I felt invested in their stories.
The setting and worldbuilding are typically fantasy, but believable and well fleshed out.
Overall, the plot was enjoyable, although it felt split into separate acts.
I look forward to reading more from the author (and hopefully from this world and characters).

I read this book as an ARC but all views are my own.

Finished the book today. Great story, very original variant of the impossible love story. Well written, with witt and humour. Some characters become your friends while reading. The "spice" is (mostly) functional to understand the dynamics between the two main characters. Looking forward to a sequel!

A promising first novel from this author with an exciting plot, good pacing and well-written spice. The characters have interesting personalities and the chemistry between them is engaging, including some of the minor characters who I would be excited to learn more about. Looking forward to reading their next work!

Very well written characters that made me care equally about them individually as well as together. The world building is the perfect amount to be intriguing and fun without being overwhelming to follow. Great read!
