The second printing of the novel is updated with detalied explanations of freelance journalist Don Lamplighter's investigation into a car accident where he saved the life of an infant trapped in the back seat. Lamplighter discovers that the event was no accident, but an attempt to cover up the activities of a member of a global secret society that is meeting on the outskirts of town.
I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
My expectations were very high when I began reading this story. And they were met by the main characters in the story whom I liked a lot. The story line was also an interesting one. And the constant Bible references also endeared me to this novel.
However, the downer is that the novel was not well edited. This could be because the copy I received was not the finally edited version, but unfortunately I could not overlook the discrepancies that were present throughout the novel.
And the other thing I did not like was the ending - it was too sudden and I felt that I was left hanging with nowhere to land.
I am sure the finally edited version will be easier on readers so don't write it off because of this review.
I enjoyed this book. The main character, Don Lamplighter, is a likeable guy who is making a living by working at WalMart and writing as a journalist on the side. We aren't too far into the book when we find out that this guy is a good Samaritan type which leads him into adventure after adventure. I particularly like Lichterman's development of his characters: the evil Absalom, the good-guy Don and Don's wife, Gloria. There are witty moments and interesting twists. This book is for the Christian reader. The main character lives his Christianity out and draws strength from his daily Bible readings. Verses and spiritual thoughts are part of this book's offering. The book ending leaves you hanging in wait for another chapter or a sequel to bring closure to the loose threads--and to bring the bad guys to justice. In fact, it seems that is the author's intent. We can expect more books from Dean M. Lichterman as the drama continues to play out.
I really was hoping for a great read, but was sadly disappointed. The storyline actually is a great one, but I just couldn't get into it.
What I liked: -Gloria and Don's guessing game -the spiritual aspect in the story
What I didn't like: -the writing. I had a hard time concentrating on it. A lot of details seemed unnecesarry, I thought. -there was one swear word at the end. -Absalom and the group.
Some people may enjoy this book and story, but it didn't hold my interest.
