She was never meant to bloom… but nature had other plans. An orphan raised in a Beta-run home, Serena spent her life in the shadows, treated like property and constantly instilled with fear. For years, she believed she was one of ordinary, disregarded, unremarkable…useless.
Until the Change came late… and everything unraveled.
The Council was completely unprepared for someone like her. An Omega, newly awakened, alone, unprotected, and possessing a secret others would kill for. Desperate to survive, Serena goes on the run—but fate has a different path in mind. Drawn to a group of powerful, fractured men who call themselves Veil Bound, she finds herself ensnared in a bond that feels impossibly right… and terrifyingly dangerous.
But Serena is more than just an Omega. As her connection to the pack deepens, so does a strange power awakening inside her.
They wanted her hidden. They’ll regret letting her rise.
In a world built on hierarchy, hunger, and control, Serena is about to discover the strength of found family, the fire of true instinct, and the destiny of a Lumina who refuses to be broken.
Knot Useless is the first in a series of interconnected standalone books, each with a guaranteed HEA. Each heroine's traumatic past leads to a love sweeter than they could have ever imagined.
For a debut novel with (according to the author at the end of the book) no alpha/beta readers, this was pretty good. Overall, this book was entertaining, and though I wanted more world building embedded in the story, I'm happy with what I got. Judging by where I think this is going, I'm anticipating more world-building as the interconnected standalones in this series progress.
My one qualm with this novel is that there was too much telling and not enough showing. There are maybe 2 or 3 instances where the author goes on and on about how, for a period of time (think weeks), the FMC and the MMC's all bond and spend time together as a group and one on one. That would have been a perfect time to actually put me in the scene and have me experience that in "real time" instead of just letting me know it happened. It's such a missed opportunity considering how funny and charismatic most of the guys are. Bodhi's one-liners alone deserved more on-page time. I wanted to see (in real time) Thorne open up and have a full conversation with her. I wanted her to bond with Roman about how lovely his grandma is and how much of a help she was during rough times. The closest thing we got on page was a scene with Evander showing her his art studio. That's what I'm talking about. That's what I want more of, but with the other MMC's too.
The ending felt rushed. My running theory (up to that point) was that the guys were going to blackmail someone in the government with the recording the FMC had and get her loose that way. I'm glad to say I was very wrong, but the way it played out felt off. I can't explain it. Maybe I was expecting more?
Regardless ,I'm excited for future instalments in this series of standalones. The 2 other omegas that were presented deserve a happy ending after all the crap they've been put through!
I really wanted to like this story. It was omegaverse, found family, and just a different spin on the genre. The story fell flat. The FMC didn't have time to develop any redeeming qualities. The MMCs only had chapters told in third person point of view, which was awkward. The ending wasn't realistic with what had happened to her.
The story was okay. What rubs and is extremely off putting is how not only naive but childish the FMC is. The alphas even talk down to her like one would a child and it gave me a super ick feeling. Yes, she's been through trauma and abuse but her character has no substance. She's, well, to borrow from the title, pretty useless. She's gains a slight precognitive ability that aids a minuscule amount at the end of the book but really, she acts, thinks, and is treated like she's 5 which makes the shmexy scenes make me feel like I want to bathe in bleach, so much so I skimmed passed them all.
I almost DNRed this one and quite frankly, I really should have. I'm going to need to find something else to read quick to get this bad taste/feeling out of my head.
"Sweet" omegaverse based in evil. Corruption, politics and broken systems formed Young Serena's childhood. Orphaned, as a Beta, she is placed in numerous foster homes with abusive people. She s told she is useless to them because they cannot take advantage of her being an Alpha or Omega. She escapes when her politician foster father sells her to an evil alpha and lives on her own until she is rescued by a pack who turn out to be her scent match, because yes, she's actually a late blooming omega. Then the sweet part starts and it's a good part.
This starts out dark with learning about Serena's back story. She is a young beta in the foster system. Then she ends up with a famous Beta with a lot of connections. He is also evil when no one is looking. When she escapes, she eventually meets her mates, and everything changes, including herself. This was a quick read and a great introduction into this world. I don't know if there will be more to this series, but I hope so.
2.8 Easy to read, fast to forget, but also, plot holes and fast fixes everywhere 🤦♀️. Writing feels over the top especially with the amount of exclamation points in this, but overall was one of those simple to read stories where you read just to… read? Feels like a temporary fix for those that want to see some more baser needs of in terms of omega verse fulfilled (gland marking, whines, etc) but overall was alright.
I'm so glad that I found this book. Really liked the pace and all the characters. I'm super happy that there was no cliffhanger. Can't wait to read the next books in the series.
I love discovering new authors especially those who write my favorite genres. Knot Useless had everything I wanted in an omegaverse - dedicated, possessive alphas, a late blooming omega, drama and spice. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This book was really good. I can’t wait until the next book. I can’t believe what happened. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and it was the right genre for me . I found suggestions on TikTok, which was really good.
I loved the twist on the Omegaverse and the pack dynamic. Serena’s journey from a corrupt, abusive system to finding her scent-matched family was absorbing. The blend of darkness and found-family warmth kept me hooked, and I’ll definitely read the next standalone.
Absolutely riddled with grammar mistakes, definitely should've been 2 or 3 books rather than being crammed into 1, but it was fun :) Character dynamics were sweet
I really loved this book. It had all of the action along with the 🌶️🌶️🌶️. There was a good plot to it that kept you reading from the very first. Highly recommend
Overall I LOVED THIS ! I wish it was longer most of it felt like cliff notes and rushed. Regardless i really enjoyed it for what it is. Looking forward to the next books!
Is it the best written book I've read, no. There are actually errors within it, the ending is incredibly rushed and needs fleshing out more. I don't say this often, in fact I often say the opposite, but this could have done with being longer. There are weeks of the relationship development you are just told about over a few paragraphs which would have been better being shown from the characters perspective in real time rather than told. So normally I would probably give this 2.5/3 stars but finally someone is doing something different in the OV universe. I really enjoyed the twist the author has spun on it and the pack in the book, I was absorbed into the plot and I will read the next linked standalone when it comes out. So I've added an extra star for the plot and not sticking to the same old OV that seems to be done to death at the moment.
