He claimed me from the crew to protect me. Now I belong to him—and the sea.
I was lured aboard with the promise of gold. The crew expected me to provide their entertainment. Seventy men and not a shred of decency among them—except for him.
Captain James Blackthorne.
He’s not a man who invites powerful, reserved, and used to being obeyed. But the moment he rescued me, everything changed. He gave me protection. Purpose. A place at his table... and in his bed.
He keeps secrets. Keeps his distance. But when he touches me, there’s no doubt in my mind—I’m his.
I was meant to be a temporary indulgence. But the longer I stay on this ship, the harder it is to remember the life I left behind… and the more I wonder if I’ve found something worth keeping.
A dark, steamy historical romance full of danger, desire, and the kind of possessive pirate every bold heroine deserves.
It’s short, it’s smutty and it pulled me out of a serious reading slump—so I’m calling it a win 🎉 I blame Pirates of the Caribbean for my continued obsession with pirate romances. Orlando, you know what you did….
This wasn’t exactly a “two worlds collide” kind of romance, but it was still a fun read. The heroine was offered a job aboard a ship under somewhat questionable pretences—but to be fair, she wasn’t entirely unaware of what was being implied. It was life-changing money and a tempting escape from her current circumstances, so she took the risk. Naturally, everything goes to sh*t… and then, in true chaotic fashion, in swoops the Captain 🙌.
I thought their relationship was well-balanced. She was strong-willed and fierce, while he was protective and deeply considerate of her emotions….though that dynamic may be influenced by their 20-year age gap. Both carry their own baggage and unresolved trauma, so they take each day as it comes.
It was plot-driven, but since it was a fairly short book, there wasn't room for anything too elaborate. That didn’t stop it from being engaging and fast-paced. It leaned toward insta-love, but without feeling cheesy. There was plenty of spice and it was the good kind. Solid palate cleanser.
My only minor critique was that the hero felt like a very 21st-century pirate. For instance, he gave a speech to the crew about SA, which while well-intentioned, came across as a bit too progressive and unrealistic for the time period. I appreciated the sentiment, but it felt somewhat out of place, as if he was trying a little too hard to be the “good guy.”
That speech also didn’t quite align with the redemption arcs given to Ben (and to a lesser extent, Briggs). Honestly, both of them need to take a long walk off a short cliff. If you read it, you know exactly why.
I would’ve liked a bit more from the ending, but maybe that’s because I didn’t want it to be over so soon. Overall, it was a solid novella with a cool premise. Give me pirates any day 🏴☠️
Such a fun and exciting novella! A couple of plot holes, but nothing dramatic 😉 Loved the characters and the storyline. Jim and Hester are just 2 lost souls navigating through life and when they find each other…fireworks!!!!
Such a fun and cute novella! I'm obsessed with these little reads and have added more to my TBR. They are just perfect for in-between those huge dark heavy fantasy reads.
These characters are among some of my favourites and I swooned hard at the level of protection from the MMC toward the FMC. Despite being a novella, pace was perfect, alongside smut and character development and this authors style of writing is perfect for me. I can see it all as a movie in my head perfectly laid out.
So if your looking for a quick, light, fun, saucy read then you should be adding Lacey's entire novella collection to your TBR.
Your Captain’s Treasure is a compelling historical romance that blends danger, emotional tension, and powerful chemistry in a way that keeps you turning the pages. From the beginning, the story pulls you into a harsh and uncertain world at sea. The heroine’s vulnerability is clear, and her situation aboard the ship immediately creates tension. Captain James Blackthorne stands out as a strong, commanding presence reserved, authoritative, and protective in a way that drives the story forward. His decision to claim and protect her shifts the entire dynamic, adding emotional depth to what first appears to be a simple arrangement. What I appreciated most was the gradual development of their relationship. Beneath the captain’s controlled and distant nature, there are moments of intensity and vulnerability that make his character more layered. The heroine’s growth throughout the story also adds strength to the narrative, as she navigates fear, desire, and ultimately a sense of belonging. The novel delivers the expected passion of a dark historical romance while maintaining emotional weight and atmosphere. The setting at sea enhances the stakes and creates a vivid backdrop for the unfolding relationship. Overall, Your Captain’s Treasure is an engaging and well paced romance for readers who enjoy strong, possessive heroes, high tension, and a story that balances danger with desire.
It was a short and easy read, perfect if you’re in the mood for something quick and steamy. The only thing that had me side eyeing a bit was the whole “what the hell did she expect?” situation 😅 Like… our FMC actually got pretty lucky there, all things considered.. But aside from that, I did enjoy it. It was fun, fast, and exactly what it set out to be.
