This book is an amazing collection of classic fairytales told in a different version that what you are used to. I love the illustrations the author used. Jack and the beanstalk seem to be the oldest story to be told, which is interesting. Twelve dancing princesses I never heard of. I found it quite interesting that the original Aladdin was set in China. I assumed Morocco. The Brothers Grimm seemed to have retold many stories and took credit for them.
I love how the stories have a different version than the ones I was told. (Like Hansel & Gretel) Im wondering why Antoine Galland, like the Brothers Grimm, took credit but didn't give credit due to the original storyteller(Ali Babba and the 40 Thieves- told by Hanna Diyab and retold by Antoine Galland. But yet Galland took credit) Excellent book. Your children will love.
A delightful children's version of traditional and popular fairy tales, this book is the start of a series that does not disappoint readers, young or not. Ideal for ages 5-10 years old, each of the 10 tales has a brief introduction and summary. The stories are upbeat, age appropriate, and entertaining, with a hint of humor. This collection is a good choice for classic fairy tale fans.
I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. I liked revisiting these older fairy tales and liked the illustrations that were included. I had known most of them but enjoyed reading all of them.
