Alien invasion. Evolve or die. Nothing could prepare Tabitha Jones for the dead infested world she woke up to.

Robbed of her loved ones and altered by the venom of an alien species, she's forced to leave her old life behind and survive the ruins of Earth. Pursued relentlessly by monstrous swarms and desperate survivors, she faces a changing post-apocalyptic world and her own ever-evolving abilities as she searches for the remnants of civilisation.

But as humanity turns on her, and the alien threat hunts their hybrid creation ever more obsessively, Tabitha comes to realise that there's only one side left to fight for – her own.

Mastering her new electrical nature, she learns to control a living alien weapon – and begins to carve her own path in a violent overgrown world. Where that path will lead her though, not even she can know...

She didn’t make out its shape at first. It was only when it drooled glowing molten metal as it fed that she noticed it, sprawled out and gripping close to the side of a city tram, like it was making love to it. Its molten slather beaded and slopped from its mouth and hit the wet road in a hissing cloud of steam. Its white eyes stared at the sky, unblinking, while it shredded sheet metal and devoured it with grinding black jaws. Everything about it was black and heaving. The monster swallowed its mouthful of molten metal so loudly that Tabitha heard it up the road. Some kind of exhaust jutted out of its back then; a glowing growth that hissed and sighed a huge jet of steam. The monster’s rubbery black metal body gleamed in the rain and the grey daylight, dripping and hulking as it dropped down to the road and rested. Suddenly its head snapped around in her direction, white eyes staring. Terrified, Tabitha had hidden behind a half-eaten taxi. Its bodywork was covered in messy welding where the creature had bitten and slobbered. She peered around from the wheel arch, looking through the doorless back door, through the taxi’s torn-open front, to where the alien stood in the distance. It hadn’t moved; it hadn’t turned its head. It was just staring in the rain, eyes glowing cold, watching down the road for any sign of the intruder. Tabitha didn’t dare breathe.

I'm Andrew, a human. My first novel, Tabitha, is a science fiction which mixes aliens and superpowers with a post-apocalyptic world. It explores ideas about human nature, our place in the world, and how cool it is to battle swarms of alien spiders.

Tabitha's sequel, Sky Queen, takes her further into the realms of sci-fi action – with plenty of survival, strange abilities and huge explosions. Tabitha's third book, Ghost, completes her epic trilogy in an all-action grand finale.

Liked it. A LOT!! I'm already bummed that it's only a trilogy. Can't wait to see what new adventures Tabitha gets into.

It was really really really good!!! I liked the characters, and there were lots of funny bits. It felt a bit... rambly and long I suppose, but I'm really grateful that it came out in one book and not two because I would have been waiting foooooor.eeeeev.eeeeer.

I found the blurb of this book quite promising and I let myself be seduced by the many five star reviews on Goodreads. Unfortunately, as far as I am concerned, this book did not live up to its promises. I actually contemplated to give it a two star rating on Goodreads but it is too well written for that.

The short of it is that Tabitha gets stung by an alien spider at the eve of an invasion of Earth. Once she wakes up she has mutated, and continues to mutate. Of course when she wakes up it is in a post apocalyptic world where aliens roam the lands.

It sounded quite good and the books poster picture seems to portray Tabitha as a bit of a bad-ass. Unfortunately she is nothing of the kind. At the beginning of the book Tabitha starts off her “human” life as a bit of a looser. Okay, she is about to mutate after all so I thought let’s see what happens…

Unfortunately Tabitha continues to be a bit of a looser. She rarely does anything herself except reacting to whatever gets thrown in her way. The plot progresses quite slowly. There are lot of detailed descriptions of the environment as well as Tabitha’s thoughts which would have been okay if the plot would actually have moved on a bit but it does not. Apart from being quite slow it actually becomes a bit repetitive. Tabitha experiences one bad encounter after another but they are all somewhat similar and, quite frankly, it got a bit boring after a while.

I would have expected Tabitha to evolve during her voyage and she does indeed develop a few new abilities but she never wakes up from he sleepy walk through the countryside. She never “grows up” and takes command. She is mostly hiding in her own miserable wallowing and the thought of actually doing something with her abilities never seems to occur to her except in senseless fits of emotional outbursts.

Another gripe I have with this book is that almost everyone she encounters are assholes in various degrees. I mean come on, they are really stupid, short sighted dickheads! It is like a mash-up of X-Files, The Walking Dead and I do not know what. It does not matter if it is aliens or humans or other hybrids. They are simply assholes with a few exceptions.

As a result the book felt way too long, quite boring at times as well as rather depressing. It was far from the strong mutant woman story that I hoped it would be. The book is quite well written but the story is not…well, not so good as far as I am concerned.

The ending? Well…meh!

Andrew Hall writes well, expressive and descriptive. But I felt the story went on too long, some of the detail could be left out and some of the troubles Tabitha went through became repetitive. The man Alex, on the other hand, was not dealt with enough, and when he suddenly popped up and then disappeared from the story again it was confusing.

But I found myself unable to put the book down, I just had to find out what happened in the end. And I was not disappointed. I was glad the way it worked out for Tabitha, but a bit sad on her behalf. The depiction of her loneliness because she wasn't human any more, but didn't fit in with the aliens either, was very well done.

Soul crushing

Think "invasion of the body snatchers" meets Terminator and you won't even be close.
This author has written some kind of masterpiece that builds you up then turns around and yanks the rug out from under your feet. Portrays humanity both at its best and its very worst.
Is there a happy ending? Well, this reviewer isn't telling but is, however, fervently urging you to pick up a copy with all haste.
I sincerely hope that there's a book 2 in the near future.

It only took reading the short and rather chilling opening paragraph for me to suspect that this was going to be one hell of a book, but even then I still wasn't prepared for just how good it would turn out to be.

Tabitha is an alien invasion story unlike any I've ever read or seen on screen. It blends sci-fi, horror and superhero genres together into a unique and action-packed adventure I couldn't put down. Filled with a creative variety of extraterrestrial antagonists it introduces a young woman who is downtrodden and meek to begin with, but who is forced to toughen up as an unimaginably destructive apocalypse arrives. Eventually she becomes a badass warrior fierce enough to not only survive the end of the world but to take the fight back to the invaders responsible for it.

For me this book feels as if it's divided into two halves. The first half is gripping and at times explosive, not completely flawless but an enormously fun and absorbing read. The second half sees the story become a true masterpiece. It's powerfully and brilliantly written, thought-provoking, imaginative and more than a little bit devastating-- a certain couple of characters certainly stole my heart and made me hope for their survival. The epic final chapters and epilogue had me hooked right up until the very last word.

I really can't recommend this enough, not just for sci-fi fans but to anyone looking for a riveting story. Absolutely fantastic

The ultimate in sci-fi!

Tabitha was a remarkable read. The lead character was interesting, strong, and blissfully human. So real! I haven't enjoyed a book like this in a long while. I recommend this story for anyone who loves the genre. Well edited and an enjoyable length, the book takes you through an alien invasion that devastates Earth and leaves you wondering who, if anyone, will survive the gruesome metal vampiric spiders. Tabitha hopes to save someone to make up for all she's lost, but she ends up saving herself. In this case, that's enough. It's free and you better download this!

This is a different approach to an invasion from space alien thingy. It was a very interesting read with a lot, and I do mean a lot, of humans dying. There are also a very big heaping of surprises in the book. The action is very well defined, plot is excellent, characters are very well thought out and developed, intigue and plot twist are top notched. This was a very good read and you wouldn't be wasting your time to read it.

Wow! Great Book!

This wasn't the type of book I normally read. But, when I saw how high all the reviews were, I tried it. Wow! I really liked the storyline and absolutely loved the way the author writes. I read every single day. This was by far the best book I've read this year. I really love this author's style.

Surprisingly decent!
Very slow to start off with, but I enjoyed the slow burn after 1/8 in.

The tech is nice and I enjoyed the final scenes.

Recommended if you like tech or strong female characters.

A wild SCI first story. More twists than a pretzel.

Extremely imaginative plot and story line.
Just when I thought that Tabitha was a gunner she managed to stay alive multiple times.

A fun story.

I haven't enjoyed an alien sci-if book this much in a long time. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I got angry. So many ups and downs for poor Tabitha. While there are some heart wrenching moments, I wouldn't call this a chick book. There is so much action going on that I didn't want to put it down.

I don't add reviews to books beyond the occasional star based rating... or rather I didn't as it seems I am reviewing this book now ... but in this case I felt compelled to do so as I don't ever recall reading a story quite like this one before.

I am 48 years of age and have been primarily reading science fiction and fantasy since I was 10 years old. I have read a lot ... I mean a lot ... of books in my time but I'm sure I'm not unique in that experience.

Given where I am now I find myself more and more looking for something different to read a new story, a new plot a unique character that I haven't seen in some form or other in numerous books before.

The more you read ... as you know ... the harder this can get. I still read a lot but more and more I feel I am reading the same books told from a different perspective over and over again so when I find something different it enhances the whole experience just that little bit more. Happily in this instance I have found something new.

Reading this book ... and I've read the following two members of the trilogy as well ... I am glad to say that in the Tabitha Trilogy I have found a story that has elements I am familiar with told in a new, unique and engaging way. A story that caught me up and dragged me along over the course of a four day weekend to read all the books in trilogy eager to find out what happens next.

The story is epic in scale ... I mean this literally. I don't want to give any spoilers away but I feel that to give that statement justice I have to give the briefest synopsis I can about what the trilogy entails.

The story starts as all good stories do with our hero losing her job and wondering about her future.

Her story evolves from there into a survivalist horror story with all the elements of the end of days you can imagine from societal collapse, roaming gangs to both human devolution and evolution.

Having set up your expectations the story then morphs into a fantastical story of weird almost magical abilities, fantastical creatures, heroes, castles, epic sieges and terrible betrayals.

However not satisfied with this the story evolves again becoming all these things as well as an epic science fiction story about alien civilizations, galaxy conquest, advanced technology and evil empires

Before climaxing in a knock down brawl of Dark v's Light, Good v's Evil, our Best v's our Worst.

...... and you know what the best thing about all of this is .... the author makes it work.

In summary the author has created a story ... or stories ... that has elements you may be familiar with but have never and I mean never seen put together in such a way before.

My sincere thanks to Andrew Hall on a fantasically epic job I enjoyed every minute of it.

I got 4% into this book and just got more aggravated the more the story drug on. There is way too much unnecessary stuff, sentence fragments, and just a muddled plot. Not a good book to read.

Superlative.
Great plot and main character. I could not put it down and it has been awhile since I have not been able to walk away from a novel. 24 Hours since reading it and half way through a new book but keep thinking back to Tabitha. I need re-read it and get my fix.

Update (10 Sept 2015) - managed to get 2 more books under the belt before having to go back and re-read Tabitha. Got my fix.
Damn good story.

Both Tabitha and any/all sequels need to be published in hard cover format as they need to be part of my physical library.

Entertaining. Which is an understatement. I liked not knowing anything about the invading species throughout the entire book. This book was about Tabitha, entirely. There is very little learned about the invaders and to me that made this book gold! Too often Sci-Fi authors dive into other races and alien cultures and give a history of the civilization and all that. Nothing wrong with that, generally, but this was a departure from that style and it made it stand out to me.

Some SPOILERS here. Tabitha is just a normal girl with friends and family a job and a peaceful life. She is slammed head first into fighting for her life and everything she has is destroyed. Literally everything. Even people she meets and befriends along the way. At one point she falls in with some other people surviving and they form a group but all of them but her eventually die.

A pretty long book at today's standards for SCi-fi. But there was no point in the whole story where I was bored or waiting for the story to go somewhere.

Loved this book. Looking forward to the next one.

Did Not Finish: 9% Complete

Between the cover art, the description and Iori's high rating (I've come to respect Iori's reviews when I spot them) I was quite confident that I would enjoy this book but unfortunately this book just really wasn't for me.

What I will say is that it was well written with good punctuation, grammar, spelling and descriptive language and has the potential to put chills up your spine. But the first few chapters I found incredibly dull and are probably one of the driving forces behind me giving up on this book, Tabitha comes across as something of an empty slate without much depth.

I may well revisit this book at some time in the future and try to give it another go as it might just be that I am not in the right mood for this story.

If you enjoy dark science fiction, future fiction or apocalypse fiction you may well enjoy it but be warned that the first few chapters are slow to the point of plodding.

Leaves you breathless in all the right places.

I had to read this book from the moment I saw the title and cover. A main character who shares my name? Yes please!

This was a really great book and I'm looking forward to the second. Between vampiric alien spiders, tentacle monsters from the deep and literal dragons that are also spaceships, there's a lot to love in the sci-fi aspects of this novel.

The beginning and the middle suffer from slow pacing, the first part is a bit of slog while we are introduced to Tabitha's ordinary life, the latter drags a bit too long while introducing new characters and trying to get us to bond with them, but everything is either rapid-fire action or creeping horror, the tension pulling us along while we quest with Tabitha to find out what has happened to humanity, and if what little remains has any hope of salvation.

I particularly loved Tabitha's physical transformation. She goes through so much heartache and peril and how that affects her is quite fascinating indeed. And dang, that ending! My curiosity is definitely piqued.

Well crafted science fiction

Like so many of the hybrid books of this era the author combines science fiction, fantasy, dystopian, and urban fantasy. The book is well written with surprisingly few and far between editing errors. It is fun reading but at times a little slow with blinding transitions that seem abrupt. I recommend this book, And I am looking forward to the next in the series. I think this book was published in 2014 and the next in 2015 unfortunately the third of this trilogy is not out yet and I hope the author finishes although he does not seem to be one of those book a month writers.

Fully developed story

As much as I share the cynical observations of the author, and the main character that has been shared, I am only giving this four stars. It really is a well done story, and the main character has to be one of my favorites. Through all of the horrible stuff thrown at her, she retains a sense of innocence that makes her all the more compelling. The four stars are only because of some of the twists that seem to be there only to force the story to not be predictable. To me, this was well done enough it didn't need those tactics. Well worth reading, as long as you understand why these things are a real possibility in such an extreme circumstance.

Good Read

Enjoyable first read but emotional. When you think it couldn't go further, surprise! It does make you wish for another character that gives you a better outlook for the human race but it doesn't. I think the author doesn't like people or think very highly of people. Going to read the next book with hope there is at least a smudge of a happy ending for somebody. If it is more of the same, I doubt I will read further. Die already won't you!

Interesting imagination

I thought this a decent book,, with some great imagination. It dragged bit in the middle but got much more interesting towards the end. wonderful use of living technology I would have enjoyed more focus on that. Character development was difficult as she was alone for so much of the book. overall I enjoyed it but will not reread, however I may read the author in the future it will be interesting to see how his writing evolves .

Is she supposed to be a hero or a whiny little girl?

Book was entirely too long, too much description of territories and surroundings. Author does not seem to know what he wants his character to be, she seems to be a little schizophrenic, is she a heroin fighting for justice or is she a whiny little girl? I know origin stories take a while to develop but this one was entirely too long and we still don't know at the end of the book what she is supposed to be.

Meh

The book blurb seemed like it had promise and once again the cover artists lead one on the believe something else. Tabitha is a person where anything that can go wrong will go wrong. And through out the story she meets people and most of them seem to want her dead. The story also has pages where it is describing something and her thoughts, so it could take 4 pages to tell you that she looked down the street and saw x# of things.

I found this book to be quite emotional but not in a bad way. There are many parts that I found to be a bit slow, but it builds up a tragic narrative that grows all the stronger as the story goes on. Refreshingly, the protagonist isn't some action hero kicking ass all the time, but is behaving instead as a normal person going through tons of trauma and making the occasional mistakes.
