I added this book to my DNF pile at 21%. I try to make it at least a quarter way through, but this book was too ridiculous to waste any more time. Even for a YA novel, I felt like I was reading a book meant for a 12-year old written by a 15-year old. The main character's inner dialogue was irritating, and dialogue between characters was stilted.

The book moves entirely too fast and contains details that are entirely irrelevant. What was the point of the scene with Layla and her boss at the library? Just so we could see how immature Layla's inner monologue is? Suddenly, we're shoved into a scene where Layla's being told she's adopted. Then, 20 seconds later, she's decided she wants to find her birth parents. Then there's a new boy at school who, surprise, likes her. And within the first 30 seconds of them meeting their having deep conversations. Then she's getting beat up, then taken to a new realm, then told she has to bond with this magical horse that is meant only for her. And this is all by 21% into the book! It was all too silly for me.

You're not even given a chance to like or dislike anyone before an entire new world is being thrown at you. And the writing style is much too immature for my tastes. I like a good YA novel but this may be more tween appropriate.

this was supposed to be like a new adult book, but the main character has the emotional complexity of a mayonnaise jar. the conversations are all one liners. it's awful. I think the plot, the idea, the setting is all fine. but the interactions between characters is tween level in a supposed to be grown up book. take out the adult stuff and market at young teens and it would be ok.

Amazing

Really amazing. Loved how the story flowed.
I loved seeing aspects of both earth, and the realms.
I am amazed by how well developed the characters are. Obviously Z wins it in the guys!
