He needs a royal redemption arc. She needs to keep her distance. The public wants a story, preferably a romantic one. I called him Ledonia’s most eligible man-child in a headline. Now I'm living at his palace.
After my no-holds-barred exposé on Prince Maximilien goes viral, the royal family doesn’t banish me—they hire me. Apparently, the King and Queen think damage control looks like me filming an exclusive behind-the-scenes series on their charming, cocky, scandal-prone son.
Prince Max isn’t thrilled. In fact, he downright despises me. Which is fine. Because the feeling? Entirely mutual.
But the thing is, I didn’t expect him to be smarter, deeper, and somehow even hotter in royal pajamas. And I definitely didn’t expect to start falling for a man I’ve built a career out of publicly roasting.
There’s just one He has no idea who I really am.
He may be a real-life prince, but I’m royally off-limits.

This books was a fun time!
'Naughty man-child' Prince Maximilien (Max), fourth-born child of the King and Queen of Ledonia needs to do some image therapy and his royal parents make him do that with a month long exposé with his least favourite journalist who excels at making epic TikTok's and posts about all of Max's bad choices. It is a great set up!
The FMC is really funny with her posts about the Prince:
"Now, one might think a twenty-seven-year-old prince would possess enough rudimentary knowledge of physics to calculate that about two hundred pounds of royal muscle hurtling down a children's water slide might produce some unexpected results. One would be mistaken."
"So, here's to you, man-child Max, himbo extraordinaire, for reminding us that even princes are human, that aristocratic carp can fly, and even the most sophisticated garden parities can become disasters worthy of trending TikTok fame."
These guys really don't like each other at all!
MMC: "I'm in no mood to humor this woman, who's done her best to make me a public laughingstock."
Their dislike of each other though does not get in the way of them fancying the pants of each other.
FMC about MMC and his PT: "It's like they're two Greek statutes that have come to life to do cardio together ..." Lol!
Towards the end of the book, I really like how their character arcs develop and I like that they bring out the fun in each other.
FMC: "Max, you're a twenty-seven-year-old man who's currently sitting inside a blanket fort." Damn right he is! That boy knows how to have fun!
Adding in the additional complications of the FMC's background with the royal family and this makes for a great read.
Pick this one up if you enjoy a light-hearted, quick, clean romance read. Also, you don't have to read the other books in this series to pick up this one!
If you love Princess Diaries, hidden identities, and enemies to love... this book is a must read. Right from the very first book, I have absolutely adored this series and perhaps one of the most fun characters in the background was the youngest prince- Max! As such, I was excited to see him a little more grown up (but still the same loveable Max!) and getting his own chance at a happily ever after... with the most unlikely person of all- the reporter who has made a career sharing the latest scoop on him and his family. And let me just say... this story did not disappoint! The banter between these two was fantastic and the chemistry even better. It was fun to see the more serious side of Max... and the softer side to Fabiana too. There was a LOT more to both of these characters than meets the eye, and the more I got to know them, the more I couldn't help but root for them to get that happily ever after. This was another great addition to this series, and I loved every single minute!
Royally Off-Limits is a closed-door romance with kisses only and minimal minor language. It is the fourth book in the Royally Kissed series, and while those who have read the previous books will enjoy catching up with familiar characters, I do think this could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
After the previous book in the Royally Kissed series, I was excited to see Max grown up a bit and finally find his HEA. And Fabiana was the perfect person for that job. They started as enemies, one a royal man-child, the other a harsh critic journalist, but a little forced proximity and a bit of an open mind and they finally start to see each other for who they really are. Their banter and chemistry are fantastic. Loved the book!
Royally Off-Limits (Royally Kissed #4) by: Kate O Keefe @kateokeeffewriter
••I give 4.5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
~He needs a royal redemption arc. She needs to keep her distance...
“I can’t have feelings for my arch-nemesis, particularly not when we’re about to embark on a full month together.”
-Royally Off-Limits, is a delightful romcom. If you love enemies to lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity, slow burns, LOTS of snarky but wonderful banter, and a royal who accidentally fall hard, this one’s definitely for you! Watching characters both perform for others, both hide their true selves; yet, do it for very different reasons had my attention. Seeing them realize and come to not be anything other than themselves with each other had my heart. Seeing themes of dear vulnerability, resilience, trust, bravery, honesty, kindness, forgiveness, and love weaved through was lovely. This is a delightful finale book to the Royally Kissed Series! Worth the fun read!🙌🏻📚❤️
“We may not have had a typical journey to get where we are now, but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.”
•Content: feelings of abandonment, loss, not being enough, hiding ones self, some grief, some in past bullying mentioned on page, lies, very minimal minor language, mentions of fleeing to another country, being labelled as a traitor’s daughter, pretending to be someone else to survive, being on watch in every little thing you do (life of a prince), some drinking, kisses only.
“Being alive gives you a distinct advantage in my affections.”
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
“There’s nothing plain or old about you. You’re so amazing!
“What’s infinitely more dangerous is this other thing, this ridiculous, unprecedented longing to get her to open like my favorite book, so I can read every page until I’ve memorized her completely.”
Who has been waiting for Prince Max's story? And are you so excited that our intrepid reporter Fabiana Fontaine gets to have an exclusive behind-the-scenes set of interviews with our Prince? I was super excited for it! These two have had quite the build-up to their story from the beginning of this series and I was so here for their story! I gobbled it up! They had me laughing over their wit and banter. Fabiana, aka Valentina, is quick witted and she really is good at getting to Prince Max.
But they have one problem, they have been so used to getting on each others' last nerves, so to speak, that they don't know how to talk nice to each other. And they sure need to for this assignment. Ohhh, it was so good! And you can be sure that the chemistry was flowing between these two. Which of course helped with their tearing down the walls that have been built up for years. And when those bricks come tumbling down, watch out! Friendship, trust, loyalty, and love will become the new norm for these two. But of course that doesn't come easy. You'll have to read their story to see their wonderful journey. Definitely two thumbs up from me! And all the heart eyes and stars!!!
The secondary characters in this one are going to win your heart over as well. Especially Valentina's Nona. She had me wanting to be able to hug my grandmas one more time and just have one more conversation with them (I'm only saying it that way because my grandmas have both passed away years ago). Friends and family members make several appearances and I just loved all that they added to the story and the dynamics between Max and Valentina. *Sigh*
I think you could read this one as a stand alone, or any of the others. But I've enjoyed each book and think you'll really enjoy them even more having read all of Max's siblings' stories as well and build to this one.
Content: Clean. There is a moment due to the weather where they are forced to share a room/bed but it was cleanly written and nothing happens. Some kisses but nothing further.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
This book has some fun tropes — dislike to lovers, royal family drama, hidden identity, and a full-on man-child MMC.
The story follows Valentina (aka Fabiana Fountain), a journalist with a secret past who loves exposing royal scandals, and Max, the prince of Ledonia and the baby of the royal house.
I really liked how the author explored Max’s struggles with being the last born and constantly feeling unseen. I also enjoyed how Valentina and Max gradually fell in love — it felt natural and believable.
This is a 3.5-star read for me, and I recommend it.
Royally off limits is book 4 in the royally kissed series! They can be read in a series or as standalone books. I had so much fun with this book! We follow Max, our MMC, who is the youngest of the royal siblings and Fabiana, our FMC, who is the reporter painting him in a less than perfect light.
“He needs a royal redemption arc. She needs to keep her distance. The public wants a love story - and they’re about to get one”
This read is packed with all of my favorite tropes! Witty Banter Hidden identity Royal family Grumpy x Sunshine Closed door
Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this book. Anyone who loves royal romances, especially those who love following politics and/or royal drama in real life will especially love this book. This is an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers book about the prince and the reporter who has been making TikToks making him look foolish (#manchild). Even as they are falling in love, she is hiding a secret from him that she knows will change everything.
Thank you, Partner, @bookedwiththeemilys @kateokeeffewriter for the #gifted book! 🫶🏻
This was such a cute and cozy read! I loved the premise of the royal living quarters and the secret identify of our FMC. It made for such a fun reading time.
Valentina (known as Fabiana) was such a hoot! Her clap backs to Max and the easy way she did it had me laughing out loud throughout the book. I also loved the way she directly protected her identity and her family in times she thought it was needed. Every single nickname Valentina came up with for Max was another thing that had me in stitches during this book.
Max was such a fun character! I loved how he was set on redeeming himself and the things he had done in his past to help protect his families royal name. The way he encouraged and supported Valentina to be open and honest was one of my favorite qualities of him!
The chemistry between the two is a definite attraction at first, but the romance is a slooowww burn and in the best way. I loved the way in which we got to watch them grow together. Also, the secondary characters like Valentina’s Nona, were the best!! They all really brought a great element to the story. The ending was so charming and I loved the full circle moments. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
Read if you like: 👑Enemies to lovers ⚔️Forbidden romance 👑Hidden identity ⚔️Forced proximity
Valentina is the daughter of a disgraced royal advisor, now living a double life as a journalist who reports on the royal family—especially the youngest prince. Max is said prince, who has a reputation as a man child playboy and needs a serious PR makeover. The palace’s solution? Have Valentina’s journalist persona shadow him for a month to show the world his true character.
The premise here is really intriguing, and there were moments of witty banter and promising enemies-to-lovers tension. However, as the story progressed, the romance began to feel rushed, and the emotional development seemed surface-level rather than deeply built. I also found that the writing and dialogue often leaned more YA than adult romance, which occasionally pulled me out of the story.
That said, this is still a cute, cozy, and funny royal romance with Princess Diaries vibes. Readers who enjoy lighthearted royal dramas may still find a lot to enjoy here!
Thank you to Wild Lime Books and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book was an utter delight! Max needs good PR and Valentina aka Fabiana Fontaine is the perfect one to fix the image she’s given him. Max helped Valentina discover her kid side again while helping her be brave about her identity. They had hilarious interactions and fantastic chemistry.
Favorite parts: -their adventure with the rain -pie for breakfast -the ball pit -the archery lesson- -Max’s youth program -Valentina being called “tent master”
Favorite Quotes She’s the one woman I should not want. But man, do I want her.
This? This is like coming home to a place I never knew I was searching for. Man, when did I become such a sentimental fool? I already know the answer. It’s when I met her.
“I never expected this,” he says, echoing my very thoughts. “But now that I've found you, I don't want to let you go.”
Just finished Royally Off-Limits and WOW—what a delight! Fabiana and Prince Max are the perfect enemies-to-lovers duo: snarky banter, slow-burn chemistry, and one royally awkward forced proximity that had me laughing and swooning in equal measure. This story hit all the right romcom notes, and the added touch of Toffee the Labrador was just adorable.
This closed-door romance is part of the Royally Kissed series but works beautifully as a standalone. If you love hidden identities, opposites attract, and royal mischief, this one is an absolute must-read!
ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Because of the article that Fabiana wrote the King of Ledonia hired her to write a documentary of Prince Max to show who exactly he really is. Will they fall in love with each other? But wait? What if he finds out about her real identity? Read to Royally Off-Limits to find out!!
Review: This is the last book of the Royalty Kissed Series. Adore this couple so much. Haha… their snarky banters, teasing and also flirting with each other as just so entertaining. They both don’t see eye to eye at first but gradually as they get to know each other they see the new side of each other which is totally being themselves. However, Fabiana had a hidden secret which she is still scared to tell him though, he had opened up to her but love that he respected her and being patient with her to let her tell him when she is ready. And there are fun times together making a fort and also making meals together for the children for the programme that he and his friends did.
Her grandmother is so sweet and also encourage her to tell him the truth and don’t look at him as the enemy just because of what his father did. And of course, the moments with Toffee who is kind of their little matchmaker. Love the way he stood up for her too and also help her with investigating what actually happened. So sweet. Can’t spoil too much you will have to read it to find out. This book made me smile, laugh, grin , swoon and also just want to cheer for them to be together.
I was gifted complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own. Thanks @kateokeeffewriter for the ARC .
This is the last book of Royalty Kissed Series. Please do read the first book it is Alex and Maddie’s story which is entitled The Backup Princess , the 2nd book which is Princess Sofia and Marco’s story which is entitled Royalty Matched and the 3rd book The Royal Runaway which is Princess Amelia and Maverick’s story.
You can purchase this book on Amazon and it is available on KU.
Prince Maximilien, or Max, is the Crown Prince of Ledonia. He's the youngest of the four children of King Frederic and Queen Astrid and currently about ninth in line for the crown. He's the man-child of the family who has never had to grow up.
So far he's been offered three choices to help clean up his act. Appear on the country's latest bake-off television program, film a documentary on his life, or become engaged. He strongly objects to all three. But reluctantly agrees to have his life filmed.
Lady Valentina Romano, who has been writing as Fabiana Fontaine, has built her career on following the antics of Prince Max. Now she's been hired for a full month to follow Prince Max and try to change for the better the perception the public has of him. The same perception she's deliberately fostered...
Valentina Romano, or Fabiana Fontaine, as the palace knows her, comes from a now disgraced well-known family. Her father, Lord Vittorio Romano, was accused of embezzling money from royal charities. He insisted he was innocent but fled the country before being arrested. In her mind, the royal family is responsible for the disgrace and ruin of her father. That in turn ruined the lives of her parents, her grandmother, and her own life. But the money she'll be paid for the job will certainly ease the lives of her and her grandmother.
However, somewhere along the line, despite knowing the pitfalls of getting too near to her subject, she's falling in love with Max. He also seems taken with her.
Max would like to be out from under the microscope lens that always seems to be trained onto him. He's just been unable to focus on what issue or issues he wants to give his attention to. He wants to shed his image of being the man-child/playboy prince and be seen as a human being first.
They played together as children, and sometimes he notices something familiar about her, but he can't pinpoint exactly what it is. She's a blonde now and not the brunette of their childhood.
As their time together begins, she discovers he's not what she thought he was. Privately he works with teens, allowing them to build their self-esteem and enjoy experiences they otherwise wouldn't have access to. Yes, he can be a goofball, but there's a depth to him that isn't often shown publicly. She needs to focus the country's attention on those areas rather than his shenanigans. The people and his family need to know more of the good he's doing.
Fabiana holds the key to his success in her hand. Will she help him or achieve her revenge on the royal family?
I received an ARC of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
Fabiana is a journalist with a vendetta against the royal family after they ruined her life. She’s infamous for her ability to always get the insider scoop on their royal ways while holding nothing back in a slew of viral social media posts.
Prince Max is the fourth and youngest sibling within the royal family and therefore he finds himself getting into situations that are bad for his royal image, although they are funny and I think they’d draw me more to him as a real royal, if I’m being honest.
His family, however, do not agree with my sentiment and therefore decide he needs a PR makeover and who better to undertake this task than none other than Fabiana? After all, if Max can convince her there’s more to his royal surface, then surely the country will agree.
And so follows, the sweet unfolding of two sworn enemies getting to know one another on a deeper level and maybe realising each isn’t as terrible as they once believed. But there’s a secret to be unearthed… as Fabiana may not be quite who she makes out to be.

The premise of this story was adorable and I could not wait to read it. Although I enjoyed it, I feel the execution was lacking.
I loved the beginning of the story. I thought their back and forth was fun and witty, and I could feel their dislike of each other coming through the page, along with their realisation of finding one another attractive.
However, as we dived deeper into the story I found their dialogue to be immature and not the words of adults in their late twenties. I also found their thought processes lacking the maturity of their supposed ages, and I found it hard to connect with Fab and Max in the end due to this.
The conclusion of the story felt rushed to me, and I wished we’d gotten to see more of how they both ended up back together, rather than just an on page explanation — especially on Max’s side.
I adored the character of Nona. She was an absolute babe and a woman I aspire to be as I age. Honestly, I’d love to see the true story of her and Mr Beckham unfold. Toffee was the cutest! I adored seeing Max with the teens in his youth program.
Max and Fab were well rounded characters, even if slightly cliché and thoroughly enjoyable to read. I just wish they had been more age appropriate with a little more detail towards the end.
This book is perfect for lovers of The Princess Diaries movies and I’d even go as far to say Never Been Kissed. I’m getting Gary Marshall vibes and I loved that! It’s a cute, comfy and easy read — would recommend.
All the stars!!! Royally Off-Limits was everything I hoped for & more. I’ve been dying to read Price McHottie Jr. aka Maximilen’s story ever since starting this fabulous series & wow! His enemies to lovers romance was well worth the wait.
Max’s definitely the scandalous youngest sibling of the royal family & enjoys having fun. After a pretty egregious canon-ball into the royal fishpond incident at a garden party, the king & queen decide it’s time to rehabilitate his image. They’ve chosen the toughest reporter for Max to win over, Fabiana Fontaine, who lovingly refers to him as #Manchildmax But, underneath that playboy exterior is a caring, thoughtful man who’s not only a fabulous uncle, but runs a top secret youth program with a camp to help struggling teens, & recently acquired an adorable puppy named Toffee. He & Fabiana are like oil & water & it’ll take all his charm to win her over. Except, he feels like he’s met her before & there’s an irresistible attraction between them.
Fabiana has a secret identity. She’s really Lady Valentina Romano whose father was stripped of his title & lands after he was accused of stealing funds when she was 11 years old. She’s held a grudge against the royal family ever since & especially delights in exposing Max’s worst scandals. But now, after living in the palace, she sees the softer side of Max & begins falling for the gorgeous prince. But, what happens if/when he learns her true identity?
I adored this story! Max’s & Fab’s chemistry was off the charts. The delicious tension between them as they go from enemies to more was so much fun. I loved seeing Max at the teen camp & Fabiana’s new appreciation of him. I loved the torrential rainstorm forcing them to stay together, the ball pit, & their first searing kiss!
Along with the brilliantly witty dialogue, romantic tension, & funny scenarios, I enjoyed the sweet relationships with loved ones. Fabiana’s grandmother is delightful & I loved her advice. I also loved seeing all of Max’s siblings again & their darling kids. And of course, there’s a swoony grand gesture at the end!
Highly recommend this amazing book & the whole series! This is the fourth book in the Royally Kissed series & while it could be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order to avoid spoilers. I received an advanced copy from the author, but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.
Prince Max of Ledonia has earned the title of most adventurous and free spirited royal. Needless to say, he is no stranger to media coverage. However, his most recent stunt involving a waterslide and a pond resulted in him going viral. In an effort to clean up his reputation, the crown appointed Fabiana Fontaine (reporter who dubbed him a “man-child) full access to the prince. The end goal being an expose showcasing his multifaceted sides rarely seen. Will a month be enough time to clear his name, or will he find himself in hotter water?
I never thought of myself as a royal romance girlie. However, after reading Kate O’Keeffe’s latest novel, Royally Off-Limits, I discovered I am!!!
Coming into a series late would normally spell disaster. Thankfully, this is not the case for this book. O’Keeffe does a terrific job providing her readers with the necessary information they need to not only understand but enjoy the story (whether they have read all or none of the books). This was extremely helpful as Fabiana and the royal family share a long history.
O’Keeffe’s writing skills were further demonstrated by her rich character development. Both protagonists underwent dramatic character arches. The progression from where they stated to how they ended was like night and day. Lesser authors wouldn’t have been able to take them from two-dimensional stereotypes to well-rounded people.
If you grew up watching royal romcoms such as The Princess Diaries or The Prince and Me, you need to check out Kate O’Keeffe’s Royally Kissed Series, specifically Royally Off-Limits!!!
Read Royally Off-Limits for: -MMC Prince -FMC Journalist -Royal Romance -Hidden Identity -Enemies to More -Opposites Attract -Forced Proximity -Witty Banter -Slow Burn -Sizzling Chemistry (with none of the spice)
Special thanks to Netgalley, Wild Lime Books, and Kate O’Keeffe for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
*Royally Off- Limits is the fourth book in Kate O’Keeffe’s Royally Kissed Series. This is an interconnected series that follows the princes and princesses of Ledonia. While the four books contain character cross overs, they can all be read as standalone novels.
**I will be making my way through the entire series after falling in love with Max and Val!!!
The Royally Kissed series by Kate O’Keeffe keeps getting better and better. With Princess Diaries vibes in each story, Kate gives readers witty banter, sweet romance, and heartwarming storylines in each book. Each book holds characters that are impossible to not like and captivates readers with her amazing writing talent. The latest book in this series, Royally Off Limits, brings together two completely different people who, when forced to spend time together, begin to truly understand the statement, there’s more than meets the eye.
Max is the youngest prince, a small side character in each book before. This book introduces us to his older self, but still finding his footing as the youngest royal who hasn’t quite fully grown up yet. I loved getting to know Max more in this story and getting to see what really makes him tick. He has so much to offer people, but has become seen as only one thing in the public eye. As he tries more and more to get out of this reputation, he seems to fall deeper and deeper into. Mainly thanks to a certain reporter who makes his shortcomings entertaining for the world to view on TikTok.
Fabiana is a reporter who has made a name for herself in her vibrant reports on the royal family. When she is granted a behind the scenes interview of Prince Max, she is going to prove herself a serious reporter and that she can deliver stories of substance. She can definitely hold her own. She is quick witted, sassy, and has a sense of humor. I couldn’t stop laughing as she continuously gets to Max. As she gets to see more and more of Max, she begins to see there is more than he lets people see.
These two grate at each other and can’t seem to be nice to each other. As they are forced together, they begin to see a side that they keep closed off from the public eye. Slowly the animosity they feel towards each other begins to develop into something deeper. Kate writes a wonderful story that pulls readers in. Along with our MCs, Kate gives us wonderful side characters that add substance to the overall storyline. I adored this book and will always love reading Kate’s books.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 👑Enemies to Lovers 💋Hidden Identity 👑Forced Proximity 💋He Falls First 👑One Bed 💋Forbidden Romance 👑Closed Door
In all of the Royally Kissed books within this series, Fabiana Fontaine is the end all be all voice on all matters that involve the royal family. In fact, the majority of the chapters begin with quick snippets of her skilled insight, with no one knowing how she has figured out the ins and outs, and what goes on behind the scenes. She’s the most unlikely character to highlight on, particularly because she’s mostly been seen as a background personality, but bringing her more into focus and getting to know more about her and why she’s so vocal about the royal family really worked well!
We learn that there is so much more behind Fabiana’s reasons for becoming a royal correspondent. When she’s tasked with working with Max, the royal’s youngest son, she figures it will be easy to keep her deepest secrets to herself in the process. She’ll go in, do the documentary, then leave. No harm done. But she discovers that there is also more to Max than she’d ever imagined, and maybe he’s not as much of a man-child as she once perceived him to be. The more he gives her a different side to him, the more she fears losing control of the carefully constructed persona she’s made for herself. One wrong move could mean the end of her career–or worse.
Reading about Fabiana really gave me a different perspective of her. Sometimes while reading this series, I’d wonder who she was and would at times think, “Who does she think she is?” I could understand the tension and annoyance that the royal family would feel towards Fabiana, feeling as though she’d often highlight the negative aspects, or as Fabiana calls it, “warts and all.” Yet, knowing her background, it makes perfect sense, not to mention how dedicated she is to her work. She doesn’t sugarcoat anything, preferring to give the truth, no matter how it looks.
Max appreciates Fabiana, but will he appreciate who she is once he learns who she really is? It gives Fabiana the chance to finally be who she is, warts and all, at risk of allowing someone to love her without the secrets. Royally Off-Limits is really the best addition to the series, an opposites-attract redemption experience–a definite five-star read!
This is book 4 of a series, and the main characters have appeared in previous books. I have only read one of the previous books so there may be some background that I am missing. But you can get the gist even if you come in as a series newbie.
Prince Max is the youngest sibling of the royal family of an imaginary country. Fabiana is a gossip columnist who has contributed to his reputation as an irresponsible himbo man-child playboy. Now the royals want him rehabilitated in the public eye and think that the way to do it is to have Fabiana shadow Max for a month. But this is complicated by their mutual enemies-to-lovers vibes, and by the fact that Fabiana is not her real name and her family has a fraught history with the royals that she doesn't want revealed.
There are some plausibility issues. Like, how is it that the royals think that giving one of the prince's snarkiest critics more access in the private sphere is likely to end well? It could so easily go the other way and give the columnist just more to bash him about and allow Max less plausible deniability. And the entire hidden identity plotline seems rather odd, considering her job. It seems like it would be complete non-starter if there was any security whatsoever. Did nobody ask to see her ID or do any kind of a background check before giving her access to Max's schedule, other royals and the palace surroundings? They'll get very lucky that if they hire good, lovable persons and not a crazy stalker out for gruesome revenge. I kept expecting to be told that the royals knew who she was all along and had some obscure reason for inviting her.
A minor detail that I got stuck on was how one of the prince's famous exploits had him sliding down a children's waterslide so fast that he sent several carps flying high with his splash. I just can't figure out the set-up. Why would they put a children's slide in or so near an ornamental carp pond that falling into it at the end is even a distant possibility?
If you can ignore the improbable things and just go with the flow it's a fun, sweet, fluffy story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the idea of this one! The premise immediately grabbed me — I’m a sucker for royal romances, especially when there’s a hint of “you really shouldn’t fall for this person” energy. It sounded like exactly the kind of escapist rom-com I’d reach for when I want something light, charming, and fun. Unfortunately, it just didn’t live up to that potential for me.
The setup had everything going for it, but the execution felt uneven. The romance, which should have been the heart of the story, felt rushed and underdeveloped. We jumped from light banter to deep feelings before I’d really had a chance to see the chemistry build naturally. I wanted more of those quiet, character-driven moments that make you root for a couple — instead, it felt like we skipped a few key emotional beats to get to the happy ending.
Another thing that pulled me out of the story was the tone. The writing style and dialogue leaned very young adult, but the characters themselves are adults with responsibilities and life experience. That mismatch made it hard to fully buy into the romance. With slightly older protagonists, I expected a bit more maturity in how they handled their emotions and choices, but the story often defaulted to teen-style drama rather than exploring deeper feelings or realistic communication.
That said, Kate O’Keeffe’s writing is undeniably easy to read, and there are flashes of the humour and warmth. The premise really is a strong one, and I could see a lot of readers enjoying it if they’re in the mood for a light, quick royal read without too much emotional depth. For me, though, it missed the mark — fun in concept, but lacking the spark and emotional payoff I was hoping for.
Overall: A cute idea that had the bones of a great rom-com but never quite found its footing. The rushed romance and overly YA tone kept it from feeling believable, even though the setup had so much promise.
Royally Off-Limits is the fourth book in the Royally Kissed Series by Kate O’Keeffe and tells Max and Valentina’s story.
The royal family hires Valentina (known as Fabiana) after she runs an article about Prince Maximilian. The royal family thinks that the article can rebuild Max’s reputation. While conducting her research for the article, Valentina learns more about Max and her perception changes. The same happens for Max about Valentina.
This book examines not only Valentina’s story of protecting her identity, but also how Max is given the opportunity to share who is truly is. A central theme to the story is that there is more than meets the eye.
Both Valentina and Max get to be the authors of their own story. We see through the politics and the pressure of being a royal and in the public eye that the principals do not always get to be themselves.
They encourage each other over the course of the story to be honest about who they are and their feelings. It takes time, and they have hesitations at first. However, through opening up to each other, Max and Valentina get to re-write the narratives of their lives and build a new way forward, both as individuals and together.
Valentina’s grandmother is a great character as well. She has played a role in raising Valentina, but the candid advice she provides to Valentina are some of the critical lessons of the novel. I enjoyed her role in the novel and how she inspired Valentina.
I thought their chemistry was established and paced well over the course of the novel. Readers who enjoy enemies to lovers, slow burn, and hidden identities stories will like this book. Fans of the Princess Diaries will also enjoy this book.
I began reading the series with this book and picked up the story and supporting characters. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Thank you to Booked with the Emilys & Kate O'Keeffe for the gifted copy of this book and the opportunity to provide a review!
Royally Off-Limits is one of those romances that sneaks up on you—not with steam, but with charm, heart, and characters who feel like sunshine. I absolutely adored Prince Max. His refusal to let go of the kid inside him, the way he embraces joy, whimsy, and just a touch of chaos—it’s impossible not to fall for. He’s a prince who plays, who daydreams, who believes in fun and wonder—and he reflects that onto Valentina in the most tender way. For anyone who’s still a kid at heart, this story feels like permission to hold onto the magic inside you.
Valentina, grounded and steady and oh-so-responsible, learns to soften because of him—to laugh, to loosen up, to live. And he, in turn, learns to stand firm and be serious when it matters. Their dynamic is gentle and warm, a reminder that sometimes love isn’t fireworks—it’s comfort, ease, and feeling like you can breathe.
And I have to talk about the pillow fort and children’s play area scenes, because they are pure serotonin. Playful, sweet, and so full of heart. Those moments weren’t just cute—they felt healing, like a story wrapping you in a blanket and saying, “joy matters.”
Now, yes—there’s no smut. And as someone who loves a good spicy scene? I didn’t miss it. This romance didn’t need heat to be warm. The emotional intimacy, soft longing, and genuine connection carried everything. It’s sweet in a way that feels sincere, not saccharine—like a warm mug of cocoa on a cozy day.
This book is for romantics, daydreamers, and believers in fairy-tale softness. Charming, light-hearted, and quietly magical—Royally Off-Limits is a royal rom-com that leaves your heart glowing. 💛
-this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
-this is told from Max & Valentina/Fabiana
Review:
I loved this book! I’ve been reading this series & anticipating when Max would get his own story and was blown away by it! (As a side note, I’ve read all except The Royal Runaway so far of the series, though I do plan on reading it when I get the chance!)
I loved getting to know Max and Valentina! I also loved discovering the identity/person behind the various news articles we’ve been reading throughout the other books! Valentina/Fabiana ended up having such a different backstory than I could have ever guessed and I loved that about her! I loved the way Max and Valentina were thrown together and how their enemy to friendship to more relationship progressed! It was so sweet! I also really enjoyed side characters (and pets) throughout this book! They brought some extra fun, levity, and seriousness to some of the moments between our main characters and it was so great to see each of them in those lights. 😍
I’m really hoping for a story (or even a bonus scene) about the royal social media manager & Max’s friend!
Summary:
As Fabiana, Valentina has grown a huge reader base in Ledonia with her column on the royal family. Her most recent articles and posts have followed the antics of Prince Maximilien being exactly what you’d expect an entitled prince to be. And when Valentina is called upon by the royals, she worries that they’ll try to end her career. She never expected they’d hand her the opportunity of a lifetime. The only downside? Valentina will have to live and work closely with Prince Max in order to write an exposé on what he’s really like. And while telling the truth is what Valentina wants anyways, she isn’t sure what the truth is. Not when everything she’s seen before doesn’t match the man she’s following around the castle…
Prince Max is tired of being thought of in a bad light. Sure, he’s made mistakes but did they really have to be captured and exposed for anyone to see? When his parents inform him that he must fix his image, he’s begrudgingly on board. Especially when the one woman who seems to jump at any opportunity to report on his family and his failures is allowed entry to his life. But can he truly expect her to only report truth? Only time will tell…
Oh my royal stars. I loved this book. I have really enjoyed this entire series, but I must confess this one is my favorite. There was just something about these two characters that connected with me. They made me smile, laugh and swoon more than a little.
Fabiana Fontaine is a royal reporter. She reports everything, good and bad, about the royal family of Ledonia. She is really having a good time reporting about the youngest prince, Maximilien, or man-child, as she calls him. If he falls, she is there to report it and make fun of him. She is brash, inventive and knows how to find an audience on social media.
The King decides that Max needs some damage control, so he invites Fabiana to shadow Max for one month so everyone can see the private side of Max. Needless to say, Max is not happy about this arrangement, as this woman has caused him a lot of grief.
The old saying that there is a fine line between love and hate has never been truer than with Fabiana and Max. The sparks start flying immediately. Granted some of it is because Max is not happy to see her, but he also cannot deny to himself that he is attracted her. The same goes for the snarky reporter.
It was eye-opening for both Max and Fabiana as they learned more about each other. Eyes were opened and walls started tumbling down. There were so many memorable scenes such as a blanket fort, a trip down a slip n' slide and ball pit fun, just to name a few.
My favorite character was Toffee, the dog. There is just something about dogs that help people remember their manners and soften their hearts. Toffee was a buffer in the beginning as these two verbally duked it out.
I highly recommend this book, especially if you enjoy a good romantic comedy with a side of royal.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Royally Off-Limits is the fourth book in O'Keeffe's Royally Kissed series. This enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, slow burn romance features Fabiana Fontaine (aka Valentina Romano), and Prince Maximilien (Max), fourth born child of King Frederic (Canossa) and Queen Astrid of Ledonia.
Fabiana's job is to write about the best gossip, and that usually includes members of the royal family. She posts on social media regularly and has a huge following. People love what she shares, and eat it up. Over the past few years, the subject of many of her posts has been none other than Prince Max. He has a reputation for acting without thinking, not considering consequences, and being a bit of a man child. In an attempt to remediate his image, Max's father, the king, proposes that he be followed by a member of the media who can report on who he truly is. That person just so happens to be Fabiana. While she is somewhat apprehensive to accept this opportunity, her personal circumstances make it a no-brainer. The king made her an offer she could not refuse.
Fabiana starts out with a certain preconception of who Max is, but she is ready to post what she witnesses. She is quickly surprised that the real Prince is not at all what she thought. Similarly, Max thought he knew who Fabiana was, but the more time they spend together, the more they reveal of their true selves, and there is a definite attraction.
This was a fun read. I enjoyed how the two started out almost loathing one another, and came to find their person in the other. They had great chemistry, and entertaining banter. I felt for each of the main characters, wanting to protect themselves and their privacy, and appreciated their openness and vulnerability when speaking their truth.
While it is part of a series, this book can be enjoyed as a standalone. I hope you do!
If you grew up enjoying movies like Princess Diaries, the Prince and Me or First Daughter then you will enjoy the world Kate has created with this Royally kissed series.
Escape into the glitz and glamour of modern day royalty in the small European country of Ledonia. Prince Max is the youngest of his four siblings and about ninth in line for the crown at his last count. The King and Queen feel some damage control is needed after the latest headlines call out Prince Max as the most eligible man child. He needs a royal redemption story and who better to share it than Fabiana, the talented royal reporter? He’s less than thrilled to have the reporter, who has made it her mission to write about his every mistake, following his every move. Fabiana needs to stay at a distance, but who knew Prince Max was deeper and smarter beneath his fun loving facade? Or that he looks royally hot in his pajamas?! The public is craving a royal romance, and it looks like their wish is about to come true!
This story is filled with the delicious tension that makes enemies to something more tales so exciting. I loved learning Fabiana’s backstory and getting to know the voice behind the royal gossip from the previous books, it added such depth. The theme of “don’t judge a book by its cover” really shines through as these characters start out viewing each other through stereotypes, only to find that genuine connection and understanding grow from close proximity and honest conversations. The result is a wonderful slow-burn romance that will leave you swooning and thoroughly satisfied in the end. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Pick this book up it you love: 🏹Forbidden romance 💗 Enemies to lovers. 🕶️ Hidden identity 🛏️ Forced Proximity 👑 Closed Door 🥰 He Falls First
Royal Correspondent Fabiana Fontaine being hired to shadow Prince Max, the bane of her existence and the subject of some of her most scathing commentary? PRICELESS!
This book was a delight. I had so much fun seeing how Fabiana (Valentina) and Max figured out how to get along and then figured out that maybe they wanted more than to just get along. Their interactions were fantastic. They both had misgivings about the other and I loved seeing them come to realize that there was more to the other than what they initially thought. Once they got over their initial prejudices, it was fun to see them work together and become a bit of a team, even if they didn’t realize that’s what they were doing.
I loved seeing how much Max has grown up over the course of the series. He still knows how to have fun, but it was good to see that he has more serious pursuits in his life. I was so happy that he was getting his own story.
I loved getting to know the person behind the Fabiana Fontaine persona as well. Valentina has dealt with so much in her life and seeing her find happiness was wonderful. I loved seeing her own who she is and what she has to offer. “If I’m not your cup of tea, don’t drink me” was my favorite line!
I always enjoy a good animal encounter, and between Toffee the puppy, Dolly Baa-ton the goat and her triplets, this book was chock full of them!
This enemies to lovers, forced proximity, royal romance is the 4th book in the Royally Kissed series about the royal siblings of Ledonia. It is full of sass, heartfelt moments, and even a little political intrigue as Max and Valentina find their way into love.
My Review: Royally Off-Limits by Kate O'Keeffe is book #4 in the Royally Kisses series. It was released on 11/6/25.
About the Book: "He needs a royal redemption arc. She needs to keep her distance. The public wants a love story—and they’re about to get one."
In My Own Words: A modern day Prince and Me story with a twist via a fake identity, a distorted perception, and a romance story wrapped in sweetness and love.
My Final Say: This royal story charmed the socks off me. I loved it! It reminded me of all of my favorite princess movies, from The Princess Diaries to The Prince and Me. All I needed was a playlist and yum yum treats to go along with this one. It was tender and sweet in all the ways that matter for a royal romance, plus it had a bit of a scandal to boot.
I value a good emo-rich climax and this one delivered in that vein. Oh my darn! I felt the two-fold devastation when Fabiana's secret was revealed. (That's all I can say because I will surely spoil it if I say any more.)
Other: Royal romance lovers will swoon over this one. Trust me.
*** This would be amazing as an audiobook. I cannot wait to hear it come to life. ***
Sincere appreciation is extended to the author, to the publisher (Wild Lime Books), and to NetGalley. Thank you for providing access to a digital ARC of this title in exchange for an honest critique.
