A story of second chances, Heidi and Shane never really got over their short relationship with each other before it was cut short by a poor choice. Rekindled love, chance reunions and a bond that cannot be broken, The One That Got Away has something in there for everyone.
Honestly, I don't know where to start with this book as absolutely everything, and there's really no exaggeration there, is spot on. The characters, the pace, the plot, the sex (so proud Feeney added in some extra scenes!) - It's all there and its all splendid. Throw in the excellent POV changes that made it clear what both Shane and Heidi were thinking at all times and you're seriously on to a winner here.
So, the characters. Shane, a silly so and so who made a bad decision, but that's all forgiven when you take into account he's sexy, sexy and oh, did I mention, super sexy? He's gorgeous, outside and in, with a cheeky charm that is simply irresistible - he exudes life from within the pages. When you add him to Heidi, a stunner, confident and the kind of woman who knows exactly what she wants, the fireworks are delightful. They match so perfectly, you can't imagine them ever being apart. The supporting characters of Sam, Jo and Ang are all just as fabulous and help just the way good friends should (and would) to grease the wheels of their love.
If you've read Feeney's stories before, you'll know she's great at sucking you right in, and this book is no different. It's real, it's believable, it's like something that could really happen, and all of this makes for irresistible reading. I devoured this book in record timing, needing more of Heidi and Shane and needing to know where it was going to go. But the biggest difference with this book was the fact that Feeney wrote some super sex scenes that left you seriously swooning for Shane. I won't say any more but honestly, I'll never look at an alley the same way again!
There's just one more thing that needs mentioning and that is the epilogue. It was beautiful, and to see things come full circle was an excellent addition and a super way to conclude this book. I'll admit to having a few tears leak out as the emotions and lessons of the past helped shape futures.
And so, I feel up have run out of ways to wax lyrical about this superb story. It may be on the shorter side, but it doesn't skimp on the story. It's all there, it's super and I honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough. Well done Ms Feeney, you're blossoming into a phenomenal storyteller.
