We were supposed to be playing house for the summer—not forever.
Breaking the news to Zach Fenwick that I was never really dating our friend Simon? Awkward doesn’t begin to cover it. For years, I pretended to be Simon’s girlfriend to protect his military career and keep my family’s struggling boat business afloat. Now the lie is over, and I’m cleaning up the fallout. I ’m moving into my late cousin’s house for the summer to care for his kids. With Zach to help me. It’s temporary. Strictly practical. Until bedtime stories, ice cream dinners, and lingering looks start to blur every line we swore we wouldn’t cross.
Then a string of break-ins points to a chilling truth someone’s desperate to keep buried. And the more we uncover, the closer danger creeps.
Zach and I are just playing house—it’s not real. But the way he protects the kids and me makes me want far more than make-believe…

Deep Waters is out now and ready for your weekend binge in KU! I loved bringing Rae and Zach’s friends-to-lovers story to life—full of small-town secrets, found family moments, and Gran (still one of my favorite characters to write.)

Really enjoyable read, lighthearted fun with a little bit of mysteries thrown in. Rae and Zach find themselves House and kids sitting for her cousin Jia after she has to leave for work. This whole series started out with a death on the cliff, and the death on the cliff was the FMC’s cousin Jia’s husband. So this story works through a little bit more of the mystery surrounding his death with multiple break-ins looking for a safe or something in a safe however, the overall tone of the book was quite lighthearted and fun. This would be a good book to read sitting by the beach of the pool, dipping one’s toes in the sand or the water. It doesn’t take much mind power, but it’s thoroughly entertaining and keep you engaged!
Rae is finally out of her long-term “relationship”, but doubts and circumstances lead her to believe that her best friend, Zach, would never be interested in her. Unknown to her though, Zac has always been interested….
When they are forced to become temporary guardians to Tae and Hana during the summer, it finally brings them together in closer proximity. I totally enjoyed the dynamics between this cute, temporary family unit—from their picnic dates, ice cream stops and so forth.
The Fenwick family and the girl gang were amazing as always and I loved how Rae found support through them. The ending was absolutely perfect, and was a wonderful culmination to their friends to lovers romance.
This is the second book in the Evergreen Rescue series and I am addicted. The writing style of this author just pulls you in, there was a touch of suspense but the primary story was lighthearted and had all the tropes one could love in a romance.
Rae and Zach are in a forced proximity situation when they stay in her late cousin’s house to take care of the kids. When Zach finds out her previous “relationship” was fake, he is ready to pursue the woman he has had feelings for. I thought Zach was sweet and caring. I loved these two together.
