Footsteps of a Colloner - Book One: Beldarus
Fire, Water, Sound, Emptiness and Death--these are just some of the Elements that Tina will need to learn to use and control if she is going to defeat the Chaos-created monsters threatening Beldarus. It's not as easy as it sounds--she can't wave an inanimate object around in the air or chant some select phrases from a long-dead language. No, she needs to get in there and actually become a part of all of the elements, which, she discovers, is at turns supremely dangerous, and, at times, life-threatening.You would think that being whisked out of the noise and commotion of our world and into a world in which you are reunited with a long-dead pet would be a sort of paradise. Tina soon discovers that this particulare "paradise" comes with a price tag--one that she will have to pay, or watch as the new world that she has adopted as her own, and all those who have become her most trusted and valued companions, is reduced to ashes and waste.
As she travels through Beldarus, learning that magic is indeed real, she struggles to harness her new-found powers while, at the same time, assimilate herself into this new culture--because she is there to stay, whether she succeeds or fails.

what a cool beginning to a series!
I love that this begins with a portal fantasy. you're thrown into the world knowing nothing, just like Tina, and you have all the same real-life questions, like, what is safe to eat?! Slowly the world demystifies, but Tina keeps getting thrown curve balls.
I love her companions, and how she begins to learn to use her powers.
I can't wait for the rest of her discovery of her new world!

This Isekai story delivers an engaging fantasy with strong world-building: Readers are slowly pulled into a magical realm that unfolds gradually through the eyes, and senses, of the main character, Tina.
Rather than wielding magic in the traditional sense, Tina experiences it. When she first arrives in this unfamiliar world, the signs that something extraordinary has happened are immediate: she is a younger version of herself, and her beloved dog Moose (who had been long dead) is by her side. Tina discovers she can communicate with wolves and begins to understand that her presence in this new world carries deep significance. She learns her role as a Kadish and a First Colloner.
The novel shines brightest in its portrayal of magic. Greco creates a system that blends soft magic (aligned with good) and hard magic (associated with evil), and the sensory way Tina encounters magic helps readers understand its power as it unfolds. Under the guidance of the mysterious Second Colloner, Tellurid, Tina learns soft magic and quickly discovers that such power can be dangerous, particularly for someone still learning to control it. The broader history of the world emerges slowly as Tina explores it, adding depth and intrigue.
Political and cultural complexity also enrich the setting. Tina must navigate the four “kingships” of the Kingdom, each ruled by its own royal family with distinct personalities and internal struggles, especially with regard to which Colloner serves under which kingship. These dynamics add another layer to the unfolding narrative.
The story’s darker side arrives with the Delms, terrifying beasts that feed on fear and prey upon Kadish. Their heinous methods of drawing in their prey and delivering slow, brutal deaths are described in chilling detail, reinforcing the urgency of destroying them.
Greco crafts Tina as a capable and thoughtful protagonist, prepared to embrace the responsibilities placed before her. She meets each new experience with humor, even as uncertainty accompanies her exploration of the magic and political tensions of this strange new world. Most striking, however, is her deep sense of lovingkindness toward those around her.
