One fifteen-minute encounter as teenagers changed everything for Rex Goode and Truce Redmond. They both walked away different people. For him, it catapulted his career in boxing. For her, it challenged her commitment to family.
Years later, Rex is a retired boxer, single father, and furniture store owner who has left his fighting days behind him.
Truce is a dutiful daughter, loving big sister, and owns the popular soul food restaurant, Redmond’s. On the outside, her life is perfect, until it’s not.
When everything falls apart, the boy from her past reappears as a man, offering strength when she needs it most.
They say timing is everything. For Truce and Rex, the time is finally now.

Just when you thought no one could unseat Gideon Powers as the number one book bae in these black literary streets, Dax said “Hold my beer and let me introduce you to my brother.” 😏
Truce’s mama is in the hospital recovering after having back to back seizures. Truce being the 'I’m Every Woman' that she is, is running the restaurant, checkin’ in daily on her mama, makin’ sure her daddy eats, and bookin’ flights for her sister to fly back home. My girl is stretched thin and overextended but, she does it with grace. She’s also keepin’ a secret she needs to unburden herself with but, Ms. Irene is determined to silence Truce and keep their dirty little secret between the three of them.
Redmond’s is a staple in Crescent Falls and just about everyone in our favorite black community eats at the popular restaurant at least twice a day. Rex and Aryel are no different. This daddy daughter duo are parked in their favorite booth three nights a week but, Rex isn’t just comin’ for the oxtails and lemonade. You see, he’s been crushin’ on Truce since high school and, when he made the move back to Crescent Falls, makin’ her his lady was his number one priority.
When I tell y’all Truce of the Matter came through with all the feels, it came through with all the feels. This was such a good book. Rex was EVERYTHING! He was a phenomenal dad, a loving son, and a supportive brother. He was intentional in his pursuit of Truce and, once he got her, he wasn’t lettin’ up. Ain’t gon’ be no one night stands over here! And, of course Charity had to give us an aint shyt mama and Aria played her role to perfection. Give that broad an Oscar cause, she was trif-lin! Oh, and Lyra, we ain’t forgot about that shyt you pulled. Rex and Dax may have forgiven you but, me and Chantel damn sure haven’t. We’ll be waitin’ for you at the doe in your book. You see what I did there? 😉
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Stars….I Love how committed Truce was to her family…and how quickly her and Rex fell for each other…because there was always an attraction.
I honestly think I’m biased when it comes to this author because I automatically go into any Charity Shane book knowing it’s about to be 5⭐️. I can always count on kicking my feet with a smile, ready to throw my kindle followed by many “awwww, I love them!” outbursts. And Truce of the matter lived up to all of that. I love black love 💛
Rex was a retired professional boxer, divorced, and a single father of one. Life had brought him back to his hometown and he was determined to get the attention of Truce, the woman that inspired his boxing career. I really liked Rex. He was an excellent father, protective, loving, hardworking, and sexy. Charity will have you wondering where are these mmcs 👀 lol.
Truce was interesting. She was the backbone of her family. She managed the family restaurant and actively supported her parents and sister. However, she has baggage that she has been carrying for a long time and when her family is devastated it all comes ahead. Rex is right there, supporting her in her corner. I loved how Truce eventually bonded with his sweet daughter Aryel.
I enjoyed the story, but I felt like we could have skipped the scene with the fake pastor. It seemed out of place. I also would have loved to experience the wedding and some of the things mentioned in the epilogue by reducing some of the fluff in the middle. However, overall I would recommend.
I went into this blind. Didn’t read the synopsis or nothing 😂I loveeee Charity downnnn & I knew this would be so good.
Rex & Truce journey was so easy. I love a nontoxic love story. They did have a lot of personal struggles but it never affected their relationship. LOVED THAT !! This lady catalog doesn’t misss.
Miss Charity! You be cranking out these heartfelt reads like nobody’s business, and I love that for you! Hell for us too! 🤣
Truce carried her family on her back. This woman is and has been everything for everyone, but who is there for her? I could feel her anguish and pain as she was trying to keep it all together when life happened. Then enters her guardian angel “Rex”.
Rex has had his share of heartache, but he now focuses on his business and his baby girl, Aryel. However, he always keeps his interaction with Truce from years ago, in the back of his mind, as he waits for his opportunity; and it is now. Rex appears in Truce’s life just as everything is falling apart for her. No worries though, he is ready, willing, and able to pick up all the pieces and then some! His caring heart, patience, and support to Truce means the world to her, and it doesn’t hurt that is pushing up on her either. I love how uncomplicated their love story was. Now the things happening around them is another story.
That damn Aria needs to burn in the hottest place in hell for all the ish she had going on! Aryel was just the sweetest thing ever! How could you not love her? 🤬 I had a feeling I knew the details surrounding Daija, but it was still heartbreaking when it all played out. You could understand Daija's pain, but I wanted to hug Truce. She had already been through so much, and this could be the thing that pushed her over the edge. Now Lyra? Sis, what is your story? 👀 I hope we hear from her soon, because obviously she has some ish she needs to get off her chest and deal with. Looking forward to the next read. 👍🏾👍🏾
I absolutely loved the hot and delicious journey Truce and Rex found themselves on.
They both ended up raising young girls in the midst of some painful and mind blowing secrets. At times I laughed out loud, as well as shed a few tears. That's what Miss Charity's awesome writing skills will do to you.
As the "advisor" to my three adult sons and four grandsons, I really enjoyed the Princess Sleepover because I never experienced that in real life! The attention to detail made that scene really come alive for me!
I then cried during the scene when Truce couldn't find her father for hours. Only to discover him sitting in a chair with some snacks, a beverage and a book (bible), in the cemetery next to his beloved wife's grave. He missed her so much. (Been there, done that!) What an incredible story!!!!
Let me say this: 60% of this book was emotionally heavy, and I need to start reading the synopsis! By the end of the book, I couldn't help but smile! I admire Truce for loving her parents so hard and being their support system while carrying such a heavy secret. A secret that nearly ruins her relationship with her sister Daija. Rex is a former heavyweight champion and now owns a furniture store as a single dad. In the midst of his own family drama, one thing is sure, and that is him not passing up the 2nd opportunity to be with Truce! I smiled, blushed, laughed, and felt all the feels with Red and Truce. Rex was a safe space for Truce, and she became that for him as well. This book explored ways of dealing with grief, hard conversations, loving your family, and extending grace. I enjoyed Truce and Rex, and I loved how they didn't play when it came to one another! I enjoyed seeing Jabari and Kinnidi in this book, even if it was just for a quick scene! Definitely recommend this book, but be mindful that it has the death of a parent and grief discussed.
I like Charity Shane writing style, it’s easy to fall into one of her books. Ya know I’m trying to be a resident of Crescent Falls, so good to be back in this world.🥰🫶🏾❤️
Unfortunately, this book just didn’t do it for me. While Truce and Rex were able to connect during some very painful life experiences. I just couldn’t connect to their love story. It was hard for me to relate to Truce, especially around her secrets and I felt like while she was given forgiveness. Aria was vilified. I also don’t know how I feel about Truce’s reaction to Tremayne, still processing. Rex is my definition of a lover man, but a Jr. high crush just didn’t connect. So this is like a 3.5/4 stars for me.
Definitely spicy scenes, some healing and forgiveness ❤️🥰🫶🏾 Makes me want to read Dax and Chantel’s story now as well as Kinnidi and Jabari’s
I got so many feels from this book!!! Truce & Rex 10/10!!! I cried, I gasped, I laughed, I sighed! I felt like this was a TP production at one point but this story was written so well strategically! Charity never miss!
I truly enjoyed truce and Rex story. This book here had me going, from the secrets and the slight drama 😁 most of all Rex is bae, and truce didn't stand a chance 😁⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rex and Aryel ate at Redmond's so Rex could see his crush Truce. Truce was acting like she wasn't feeling him. After Truce mama died, she hit the because everything hit her all at once. Rex showed up and took care of her. Rex finally introduced Aryel to Truce who became like a mother figure to her. When Rex couldn't box anymore because of his injury, she left him and Aryel too. Like her daughter was nothing to her. Truce decided to Daija the truth about their relationship. Dax did three years in prison for stumped out Lyra's ex-husband. She thought they were going to spend the block, but he didn't change. It ruined their parents anniversary party. Aryel mammy came to visit with her goofy self. Truce had to lay hands on because she hurt baby girl feelings. That was the first time she had to step out of character. She had to act up in the church on the boy who wanted nothing to do with Daija. Again Rex was there. He proposed, they got married now they are expecting a son. And Aryel is looking forward to being a big sister.
“Truce of the Matter” was such a rollercoaster ride. And my emotions were running wild because of the turns the story took. It evoked so many feelings that left me unsure if I could continue but I am glad I pushed through because it was a beautiful story. Truce was everything to her family, and the one that held things together. When tragedy struck the family unexpectedly, it was Truce who delayed her grief to take care of things. Rex was such a man; a former boxer turned entrepreneur and girl dad, who wasted no time being just what Truce needed. The couple moved at a fast pace but I think the relationship helped with Truce’s healing process, and it didn’t hurt that there was a longstanding mutual attraction between the two. I can always count on Charity to make me feel things with her stories. The attention to detail and realistic nature of the storyline was outstanding and listen, I love cute kids in books and Aryel stole the show for me! The community, strong family vibes, and healing was just what I needed.
So I am back to give my full review! I enjoyed reading Truce & Rex. When Aryel said “Miss Chantel is Uncle Dax’s girlfriend.” I said hold up wait a minute let me run Chantel & Dax’s story back. And of course I went ahead and read their 2nd book. No need to but I chose to do so since I like some background info.
Anyways I thought their story was cute tho. Him having a long standing crush on her and her not even knowing she helped him become the man he is by standing up to his bullies was so sweet! The secret admiration as adults was just what we needed to get this romance/love going.
Lyra needed her behind whooped but I’m glad she learned her lesson and let then ninja go. Hopefully she will find her happy ending.
Aria deserves EVERY thing that’s coming her way. Ole dusty heifa!!
Oh and Tremayne deserved way more cussing out than he got lol.
Whenever we’re in Crescent Falls we’re in for a time! This time we took it inside of Redmond’s the local soul food staple. Truce held her family and the business together, never prioritizing herself then enter Rex and princess Aryel.
One brief encounter when they were kids and Rex was in love. He saw his opening with Truce, swooped in there with perfect timing and consistency and she was done for! Without hesitation he supported her through some heavy grief and helped make her whole with the help of his adorable baby girl.
Aryel was such a perfect addition as the story explores some heavy grief. Daddy Redmond was breaking my heart to the very last minute but I loved the family they built in the end.
I really enjoyed this book. The type of secret that was kept is the type that was common back in the day. Rex and Truce's story was beautiful. He was always there at the moment she needed him, and she was so nurturing to him and Aryel. Aryel's mother was a piece of work, and I'm glad Rex never gave in to her idiotic demands. Rex's sister Lyra losing her mind for a minute had made me take a reading break to calm my nerves. I'm glad Dahlia was able to be happy again. Like I mentioned before, this was an awesome book. ❤👍🏾👍🏾
4.5/5 — This was a beautiful love story. I did not want to put the book down, nor did I want it to end. I felt so many different emotions while reading this book — I laughed, swooned, cried and cursed some side characters out. — Rex Goode & Truce Redmond were meant to be. We can’t forget about Little Miss Aryel Goode, loved every scene with her appearance. — This wasn’t just a love story, but it was about loss, secrets, trauma, and healing. ___
“All of you, all the damn time; that’s what I want. With me, you don’t have to wait at all.”
This was such a beautiful story! The way Rex was patient and intentional with Truce made my heart swoon. He was a man who played no games but he also had a softer side of him and he was a phenomenal girl dad to Aryel.
Truce was going through a rough time but Rex was there every step of the way picking her up and loving on her. He is the epitome of a real man and I loved there love. It was also good to see Dax and Chantal as well!
This was an emotional romance and I definitely dropped some tears. I loved how Rex loved Truce, he showered her with that soul touching love. With physical touch being one of my love languages, I liked how Rex couldn’t keep his hands off of her or stop telling her how beautiful she was!! Family secrets have a way of coming into the light, but they were able to work through it and that’s all that mattered.
Just what i needed and i ate this up!!!! Rex played the long game honey, once he got a hold of that woman he did not let up. I love a good single father trop with a strong, independent, ready to accept love, fmc!! Charity you did not have to make me cry like that. I also feel like Lyra has a beautiful story coming. The falls never disappoints.
Charity Shane did her big one with this book! This story has so many emotional layers. Truce and Rex each have so much going on and they reconnect at just the right time. This story is cute, sad, heartwarming, funny, and sexy. The narrators brought the characters to life. Good read!
I haven’t met a Charity Shane book I didn’t love yet and that’s lovely for me. We’re back in Crescent Falls at Redmond’s Soul Food with owner Truce! I love when an FMC gives off the vibes that I could hang with her in real life. And Rex, the furniture store owner is giving off big single daddy vibes and BDE! 😏👏🏾
This was so good. So pure with their love. But baby there was drama. And some stuff I wasn’t expecting. But it all turned out to good and work out. ❤️❤️🙌🏾🙌🏾
A very mature love story! With only a little drama/heartbreak, this story is proof that if he wants to, he will! No games, no outside love affairs, just two people finding love and being happy! Much needed 100/10
