This installment was good. Still a little confused about the change in Nico's personality, but, I anxiously await the next installment. I know that Ms. Frank lays the ground work, but it may not be totally obvious at the first reading. Nico always has a good reason for what he does, even if we, the readers, are not quite up to snuff. I am anxious to know how Bianca and the rest of the DeMarco's play in this saga. I have had my doubts about loyalty, but, I do not not know the inter-working of this family, I will reserve my personal thoughts until all is revealed.
I am somewhat disappointed in Maria, but sometimes, that's a mother's prerogative to assign her brand of judgement, I suppose. She was harder on him than his Aunt Carmen. Aunt Carmen and her other sons seem to be totally at peace at this point. What was the extent of Domingo's crazy? We know some, but I don't think we know the full extent or the possible future consequences of Domingo's betrayal. Did his Mom Carmen really bury Domingo face down as Maria described for the reasons she told Alfonzo? Or perhaps did she used that as effect to further twist the dagger into Alfonzo for the real truth? Maybe Maria has been in Italy too long with Bruno and has actually doesn't have her finger on her American family's pulse. (Somebody's been out of the loop too long, Mom).
In essence, a great installment and I anxiously awaiting for her other novels within this series and outside of it. Lots of questions and possible scenarios are swimming around in my head. Can't wait until she gives us more answers. Keep up the good work, Author S.W. Frank!
