Note to Tina Folsom:

These are things you should never, ever write again:

1. "His balls had pulled up tight too, its eggs visible beneath the skin." (His eggs? **shuddering** No! Just no!)

2. "though his cock was already tenting the front of his boxer briefs, he wasn't ready to let the beast out of the cage." (the beast? **snorting tea through my nose** Ummm yeah)

3. "he drew his hips back and lowered his cock to her female folds" (female folds? I guess technically she's right but......)

Ok.....other than these type things I liked the book. There was some fighting and some f*cking and overall was another fun Scanguards Vamp book.

Cain who shows up in a previous book, is still suffering from complete amnesia. I was pretty stoked to find out who he really is, but turns out he is kind of a jerk.

Faye is kind of a goody two shoes doormat. Cain had been dreaming of a mysterious woman for months, a sure indication that he isn't single, but does that stop him from boinking LOTS of random pickups? Nope! . Sure enough, he is engaged to Faye and he's also the Vampire King of New Orleans...

Strange holes in the story are hard to ignore in this one. How had Scanguards never heard of a King of New Orleans?? Why is there a King of New Orleans AND a King of Mississippi, but not other Vampire Kings littered about the States?? There's intrigue as to who tried to kill Cain, thereby causing his amnesia, but it's VERY transparent 'intrigue' to the point of being annoying. Basically it only serves as a reason for him to keep Faye at a distance and treat her with distrust.

Cain shows up to take his rightful place as King, even though his memory still hasn't returned, except for the dreams. He keeps his amnesia a secret though, while he and the guys who accompanied him from San Francisco try to figure out who is trying to kill him.

I did like the usual collection of Scanguard Vampires. Ms. Folsom's bad guys are always so OTT that they are corny. So basically the MCs sucked but the side characters were good... except for the villain of course. I skimmed a fair bit.

I'm thinking this series has run it's course for me...

Cain's amnesia has been troubling for the Scanguard team, especially with his increasing violent outbursts and mood swings. It all seems to make sense when someone from his past arrives to reveal that Cain is a powerful vampire king and his subjects desperately needs him.

The team insist on accompanying King Cain back to his clan in Louisiana when it's known that Cain's amnesia is the result of an assassination attempt and the person behind it has never been found. That means Cain's life is still in danger and he won't know who to trust except his peers from Scanguard's.

No one is more shocked than Faye when Cain returns. She's mourned him but has found purpose by keeping his dream of improving the clan a focal point of her life. She had only accepted a marriage proposal from Abel, Cain's brother and future king, thinking Cain had met the final death.

Cain's return reignites old wounds and threatens the future of the clan unless he can find those guilty of the murder plot and if Faye played any part in it. All without letting anyone know about his continued amnesia.

It's a good day when I can get my hands on another installment of the "Scanguard Vampire" Series. If you haven't read this series the best analogy I can think of is that it's similar to D.B. Reynold's "Vampires In America" series so if you're a fan of that series you should check out this one.

I totally loved the set up and story line that the author created. I fully intended to read a chapter of two before breaking off and return. That changed into maybe a couple more chapters. Then more. Until finally I gave up realizing I HAD to finish this book regardless of any real life obligations.

Cain. He was a shining star in this story, but I do feel that's only because the cast of secondary characters supported the story line plot/premise and added depth to the world building. For the most part this was an action-adventure, suspense story that included an erotic romance between Cain and Faye. Each part complimented the other to create a meaningful believable story that flowed.

As for the actual erotica/romance. There are a goodly number of bedroom action scenes that will appeal to those readers who like their adult content. They do have a romantic sensual slant that will have you humming in pleasure. :D

while I do feel this can be read as a standalone, characters from previous installments do have varying degree of interaction. So I guess to fully appreciate this book it's a good thing to have read the previous book or two. However, if you're only interested in this one, it won't be too difficult to get the feel of things.

Basically, I'm a fan of this series and if the author continues to publish works like this one, I'll continue to keep it as an auto-buy for the future. Thanks for another wonderful addition to the series Ms. Folsom. Now would you please get back in your writing cave ....

I love Tina Folsom (SPOILER ALERT)

I have read the whole Scanguard Series. Each book there is something that just captures you. It brings you into the story, makes you feel as if you are a part of the family.

I love Tina Folsom. I wish I could just get into her mind and figure out how she is able to come up with these stories. She is an amazing writer.

From the moment Tina introduced Cain I was intrigued on how he lost his memory. But what crossed my mind was, was she going to give us his story. You know How he lost his memory, and is he going to get it back. And boy did she ever.

Cain I knew there was something about him. It was not said in the previous books but I did have a hunch. But I never thought about him being king and having a palace that's for sure.

Cain was brought back to the palace whom he met the love of his life. Of course he did not remember her. But he knew deep down that she belonged to him. As time progressed he got his memory back. And all hell broke loose. Lets just say the action was amazing.

Faye. She is just beautiful. You think vampires as killers but not her. She was kind and loving. Always willing to help anyone. Even those outside the kingdom. She loved Cain, and was surprised and happy to see that he was alive. But then there was a turn for the worse on which both of their lives were in danger.

No now worries guys of course a couple of the hottest body guards are there through the story.

The only complaint I have about this book is that it wasn't longer. I read it in less than four hours, and it just ended too soon. Once I got started, I just couldn't put it down. I loved the suspense and mystery of it all. The identity of the "unknown" assassin was painfully obvious, but it was great entertainment reading about all the other characters figuring it out. I loved Cain and Faye as a couple and was very pleased that they didn't fall for Abel's lies. They were able to talk about it and figure out what was going on. The ending felt just a tad rushed, but maybe Abel escaping will lead to future stories about the New Orleans clan. All in all, it was another hit for the Scanguards Vampire series.

I didn't write a review for this when I finished it, because I didn't know what to write and just really didn't want to write one.

Have had a couple of days to think on it now.

I didn't really enjoy this one at all. It was bordering on being boring. What happened to the story we have come to love?
It was nice that Cain got his HEA with his true love, but honestly, once he got his memory back, how thick could he be?? It was so obvious who the bad guy was it just wasn't funny, but he never saw it coming. The story just didn't have the feeling that the previous ones had, and fell flat.

Hopefully Ms Folsom will find her way back in time for the next installment.

While the setting is NOLA you only get references to the Garden District the French quarter and downtown. Another review mentioned some of the language used repeatedly. All that review did was make me laugh when I read the parts they were speaking of.totally enjoyed reading about Cain and Faye. Even though it took me less than two weeks or 10 days to actually to read the series I loved it. Tina you didn't awesome job

Unfortunately, Cain's Identity was only about 2½★ stars for me. I felt that the story was a bit formulaic with the Cain/Abel story line. Cain's Identity diverges from the biblical story line because Cain is portrayed as the good seed and Abel the bad seed which is converse to the original story. That in itself wouldn't be bad. I appreciate with author's take creative license with stories. However, the problem with Cain's Identity was with the story itself. The story was just bland and lack luster. There was no "oomph" in the story which is at odds with every other book in the Scanguards series. There was always something in those stories that engaged my full attention but I just kept hoping for the end in Cain's Identity. As a King, Cain felt anemic. I understand that he was recovering from amnesia but making a few demands of royal subjects doesn't a king make. Cain told people he was a king but he really only showed he was a king when he used his influence to save the two vampires from the Mississippi clan. Also, when he overturned the rule about vampires and humans so that John could claim the woman he loved. Beyond that, I didn't see his strength in the king department. Honestly, any of the other Scanguards vampires could have had that title and it would have felt more believable than Cain having it. And Abel...*sigh*...Abel was the classic story book villain. I could see him tweaking his mustache with a diabolical laugh. He was almost laughable as a villain. But, what was worse is that Cain was totally clueless of his machinations. I realized who the culprit was for all of the Cain's woes early on in the story. There was no mystery or intrigue about it at all. The story probably would have been better if SO many clues were not given to point to Abel's guilt. Also, I must talk about the ending *insert another sigh*. I honestly and truly hope that Fulsom intentionally ended the story with a non-resolution to the Abel issue -- like he will come back in another story. However, I hope this was just a fade to black moment and not a fade to gray with Abel coming back. This was one of the weakest Scanguards book (re: story) and I sincerely hope it ends here and that another character (sans mentions of Abel) is the focus of any future books. Overall, I was very disappointed with Cain's Identity and was really hoping for more. I also listened to this in audio format and the narrator was not good at all. His voice was bland and his feminine voices were horrible. I'm sure this factor also contributed to my less than stellar feelings about the story but all things considered, it didn't help. I have hopes that the tide will turn and any future books will reflect the formula used for the earlier books in the series. Those, I enjoyed.

Cain has always been somewhat of an enigma, showing up out of nowhere with no memory of his past suffering from what one could only assume is amnesia. He was beginning to fit in, feeling that he was finally home when he started getting the feeling that something wasn’t right, he shouldn’t be taking orders from anyone only he couldn’t understand why he felt that way. When a stranger shows up out of nowhere though claiming to be the head of his personal guard and that Cain is the Vampire King of New Orleans, it kind of makes sense only he doesn’t believe him. It’s absurd to believe that he could be a King but when he shows him a picture of the woman that he has dreamed about every night for the past few months, he can’t help but believe or rather hope that there is some truth to his claim. Following a man that Cain doesn’t remember and doesn’t really trust doesn’t come easy for any of the Scanguards but true friends help those in need so they set out to find the truth. A truth that might lead them all into a trap.

This book was in a word, AMAZING! It keeps you on the edge of your seat for most of the last half wondering who can you can trust and who you can’t. I loved that so many of the other Scanguards had such a prominent role in this book and that some of the ones that had small scenes in past books where back in this one.

My only complaint is that the book seemed to end abruptly. What could have been a major battle and explained in detail was skipped over and explained what had happened with very little detail at all. It wasn’t enough to deter me from giving the book 5 stars though because to me the Scanguard series are one of the best ones out there and other that one thing, the rest of the book was flawless. I can’t wait to see what Tina comes up next.

Cain's Identity
Cain Montague and Faye Duvall
5/5 Stars

Cain's Identity is the ninth book of Scanguards Vampires series by Tina Folsom.

Favorite Quotes

“I can say it now, because I know it’s true. I love you, Faye, and no matter what happens, I’ll never again forget that I love you.” -Cain

“I’ll never again make you wait for anything. I promise. From now on, you’ll always come first.” -Cain

3.5 stars. I liked this one better than the last couple of books. It was a pleasant but very very predictable read. I do enjoy that about the series. The stories are light and fluffy.
I liked the play on names Cain and Abel, I also liked that the witch got a couple of spells right though he still needs practice. I didn't likeCain's rude behavior to authority because he's "not used to following orders" but giving them explanation. I can't wait for Luthers book.

Wow! Ms. Folsom has done it again. I could not put this one down. I kept reading well into the night. Her characters are so compelling and the storyline was awesome. I can't wait for the next one in this amazing series. Loved the narrative. Eric Dove brings the characters to life. Only problem, didn't want this one to end!

It makes me sad to write this review, because I am a big fan of the Scanguards series, but I have to be honest. I think this was the worst book in this series. What the heck happened to Tina Folsom? Where did she go?

First, I found this book to be so unoriginal it was boring. I knew from the first 10% of the book who the bad guy was, there was absolutely no mystery. Even the names were unoriginal. I mean, two brothers named Cain and Abel…gee, who do we think the bad guy is? Then the author used phrases and sayings from other vampire stories that she’s never used before. True Death? Isn’t that from a popular Southern TV series? Maybe the phrases are becoming so widespread that everyone uses them now, but I think when you are writing in this genre an author should strive to be original. These little things bothered me.

The other thing that bothered me was the small cameos we see from the Scanguards crew. They were basically filler characters. I felt like I was reading a totally different series.
I’m sorry to say I didn’t enjoy this book at all. I hope the next one is better.

Cain Montague doesn't remember who he was or why someone tried to kill him. He's been working at Scanguard as bodyguard for over a year. Cain has been dreaming lately of a woman that inspires him to desire he's never felt before. When a strange man claims that Cain is actually King of Vampires in Louisiana and he's needed. Cain jumps at the opportunity to reclaim his past no matter what it takes. Faye Duvall has been in mourning for over a year since her love's death. Yet when Faye and Cain's brother Abel learn that Cain's alive~they're stunned. Abel tries to get over his disbelief yet still tries to put himself in a position of power anyway. Abel plants doubt in Cain's mind about Faye~it appears to be working. Faye can't understand what's different about Cain yet likes what she sees anyway. Who wanted Cain dead? Can Cain tell Faye the truth? Your answers await you in Cain's Identity.

This series gets better with each book. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. The characters and story are raw, gritty, real, intriguing, and compelling too.

Soooo nop no no no ..... Abel I hate you!!!!!!!!!

This is one of my "guilty pleasures" series so I'm not expecting a literary masterpiece but Cain's Identity just seemed somewhat bland and not up to the usual enjoyment level of a Scanguards Vampire novel.

Although with no doubt books to come for the bumbling witch Wesley and Bond, Blake Bond, the human descendent of Quinn and Rose, I'm hoping the next books will be somewhat better.

Another enjoyable book to add to the Scanguards series with interesting characters but one very annoying action spoilt it for me.
What a great plot twist this was but I never saw Cain being someone special in the previous stories.
When someone from his old life surfaces, Cain returns to his surprising past. And in doing so he finally meets the woman he has been dreaming about.
I didn’t like Cains double standards though. He has been with lots of women over the last year but gets pissy when he thinks Faye has been with someone else. He at least tells her that he has slept around but she is all, its okay you didn’t remember me. Faye was his Fiancée.
What I can’t excuse is the fact he was DREAMING of this special woman but still slept around. He could have been MARRIED for all he knew.
Loses a star for his infidelity.

Well, I'll be honest and say that it’s been a long time since I read a paranormal fiction book, and I realized I really miss reading them. I thought Cain’s Identity was an okay read, it was very predictable. Right from the beginning it was obvious who was responsible for the wrong doing. The ending was rushed and I felt, (even though there was Scanguards characters in this book) it did not feel like part of the series.

This was a refreshing addition to this series. The change of scenery and addition of characters we've never met was welcome this far into the series. I felt the books were starting to all be the same formula, which happens when series go on this long sometimes. I love Faye and Cain and hope we get a lot more of Cain's kingdom in future books.

This was one of the better books in the series. Interesting how it took the path of a "kingdom" which we hadn't read in this series before. I was sad that it skipped the big fight scenes. It could have been flushed out a little.
