About the author

Gradimir Smudja (born in Novi Sad, 1956) is a Serbian cartoonist/painter in Italy and France. He is currently resident of Lucca, Tuscany, (Italy).

Smudja only recently published an acclaimed comic "Le Cabaret des Muses" (first called "Le Bordel des Muses"; tomes: I,II,III,IV), telling the life story of the French masterpainter Toulouse-Lautrec. The comic is being sold all over Europe and has been published in French, Dutch, Spanish, Serbian, German, Hungarian, Italian and other languages. This was a follow-up to the much-acclaimed comic Vincent et Van Gogh, the epic story about the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh and his cat.

Lokomotiva je dva stripa lepo izdala kao integral, međutim na Goodreads-u ne postoji to izdanje. 👌🏻
Vinsent i Van Gog je prilično tužna priča, kao i umetnikov život, ali isto tako je rapsodija boja i riznica neverovatnih crteža koji su dostojni Van Gogovog stvaralaštva. Ako negde priča malo škripi, postoje scene i komentari koji to nadomešćuju i koji su me naglas nasmejali. Smuđa je na samom kraju na zanimljiv način povezao mačka i čoveka i napravio predivan omaž. 🌻

Gostei bastante das ilustrações e confesso que têm muita qualidade e precisão, mas a história em si desiludiu-me um pouco. Achei confuso e sem sentido.

A una prima lettura lascia piuttosto sbalorditi. La storia di un gatto e del suo umano, il pittore Van Gogh. Ma ben presto ecco affiorare l'escamotage di narrare - e rappresentare con magnifiche tavole - la dualità del celebre artista, affetto dalla malattia mentale.
Vincent, il gatto pittore, diviene così la sua parte creativa, la potenza accanto al caos, al dolore, all'aggressività... mentre Van Gogh è la versione umana, fragile, a volte disorientata, in precario dis-equilibrio su un mondo che non lo sa accogliere. E poi, si sdoppia nel non detto, nel comparire tacito dell'amato fratello Theo. Davvero interessante, necessita di una seconda lettura per comprenderne la profondità sotto l'apparente levità della trama.

A arte é linda e a ideia do quadrinho é muito boa. Entretanto, a partir da metade do quadrinho, a história se torna confusa e não se desenvolve muito bem.

Les images sont belles, très belles même.
Et les clins d'oeil aux oeuvres des impressionistes (Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet et les autres) sont aussi nombreux que bien trouvés.
Malheureusement, il n'y a pas d'autre d'idée dans le scénario que celle de ce malin de Vincent. Et ça se sent dès la dixième page.
Du coup, malgré la beauté et l'art du dession de l'auteur font de cette oeuvre quelque chose de ... pas terrible.

Not as good as I hoped, sadly. I like the main idea and I absolutely like the drawing style. But the storyline was too loose and confusing for my taste.
