This novella came with horror, mysterious and dark vibes! I laughed and said “WTF am I reading” to myself many times throughout the book. It starts off creepy and eerie, then turns into a monster erotica novel really fast! It is about a reclusive author named Emery. She is burned out and deals with insomnia. She decides to go to an isolated cabin, in the middle of a frozen wilderness! A creature appears and she finds this strange thing hot and they end up doing crazy stuff together! Oh, and he also has a cute little name for her. Overall, this was a fun short novel that involves a creature and a lot of spice! I give this a 3.75 stars out of 5 rating!

Devour: A Cryptid Desires Novella by K.T. Maddan is a dark, daring paranormal romance that follows reclusive author Emery North, who retreats to a snowbound cabin in the wilderness to escape burnout and insomnia, only to find herself entangled with a mysterious creature that calls her “Little Frost,” forcing her to confront her fears, desires, and what is real. This novella sits squarely in the horror romance space, playing with isolation, primal attraction, and psychological tension throughout its short but intense narrative.

From the moment I pictured Emery alone against the roaring white of the frozen woods, I was immersed in the vivid atmosphere Maddan creates: it felt haunting and intimate in equal measure, like watching a flicker of movement just beyond the edge of the firelight. The creature’s presence is eerie and compelling, blending fear and fascination in a way that kept me both on edge and curiously invested in every encounter. There is heat here that pulses against the undercurrent of suspense, and I found myself genuinely appreciating the way the story played with Emery’s uncertainty, not just about the creature’s intentions but about her own long-suppressed needs and vulnerabilities. While the novella’s brevity means some elements feel rushed and the plot leans heavily into its spicy, otherworldly romance, the emotional texture of Emery’s loneliness and gradual surrender to something wild was surprisingly affecting.

Rating: 4 out of 5. I’m giving it this score because I genuinely felt pulled into Emery’s turmoil and the unsettling way the story made me question what was dream and what was reality, even if the short format didn’t leave as much room as I wished for deeper emotional grounding. If you enjoy bold paranormal romance with a vivid atmosphere and unapologetic heat, Devour is a vivid, memorable ride.

Devour? Why yes I did! I love this cryptids series, although Malcom may forever be my fave. I loved this novella as well. I loved the raw nature of this story. This definitely gives you the creeps while also being weirdly hot, but that’s the idea right!? I can’t wait for the next one!

ARC Review

5⭐️ read

I went into this one blindly and let’s just say I got a surprise lol as always it’s in a good way it’s a 5-star read for me.

This one came in at full speed with mystery and horror combined at its finest. I hardly read horror stories but this one had me saying to myself I have to know what happens next!

At one point I was like what am I reading right now? I thought in a positive sense. so much happens with the FMC I was cheering her on saying this like. Heck yeah! And you do what you want lol

I went from curious, to what the heck, to ohh okay I see you 🤣 seriously all good things.

It’s very fast-paced this novella will have you going back to a few pages making sure you read a few things right. Just like other spicy and suspense stories do

What I enjoyed about Devour is its horror but not creepy to the point you can’t read it. It’s very readable it gives you all vibes of mystery with a twist and spice. It doesn’t leave you empty with no answers this gives you everything you're looking for from answers with story and plot from start to end.

Overall I enjoyed this horror story it’s something I’ll remember for a very long time with the things I read in it lol

I would recommend this to anyone who likes and enjoys dark romance/horror stories

Writing this review isn’t easy for me, because I never take lightly the work and passion that goes into creating a book. Devour was my first monster x human novella, and going into it, I was genuinely optimistic. I enjoy the blend of supernatural elements, a bit of horror, a touch of fear play, those darker undertones that explore the edge of desire and danger.

But I have to be honest, this novella just wasn’t for me.

While it’s clear that this story will appeal to a certain niche of readers who enjoy extreme dark romance with heavy dub-con/non-con themes, I found that it crossed a personal boundary I didn’t anticipate. I’ve read many dark romances before, so I thought I had a fairly strong threshold, but Devour surprised me in a way that felt more unsettling than thrilling.

There were moments where the lines between consent and assault were too blurred for my comfort. Even though the narrative suggested that the FMC wanted what was happening to her, the way it unfolded felt less like C&C (consensual non-consent), and more like glorified coercion. That left me feeling deeply conflicted and, honestly, quite triggered.

I want to emphasize that this doesn’t mean the book was badly written or without merit, it’s simply that the themes and execution didn’t align with my personal tastes or boundaries. That’s not a fault of the author, it’s just a mismatch of reader and story.

There were a few intriguing elements, and I do see how this might work for readers who enjoy the intensity and primal nature of monster/human pairings. If you’re someone who is unbothered by extremely dark tones and can differentiate the fantasy from the reality without discomfort, this might be right up your alley.

I say this with all sincerity, it pains me to leave a negative review. I know how much time, heart, and creativity go into crafting a book. And I truly believe there’s a reader for every story. Unfortunately, Devour just wasn’t mine.

If you’re into taboo, twisted paranormal novellas and are comfortable with very heavy themes, this may still be worth exploring. But if you’re sensitive to blurred consent or are unsure of your own boundaries in dark romance, I would proceed with caution.

Cryptids Vol 3

Oh this one took the spooky up a notch and I loved it! Definitely had goosebumps reading through the story at the beginning wondering what was happening!

I really love how KT adds such tender moments in with the horror and spice to balance the story.

After 3 books, I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite Cryptid, but I will definitely have fun reading more from the series and trying to find out!

Might be my favorite novella from the series! I enjoyed it a lot and finished it in one day! I loved the cryptid in this novella and the way he obsessed! Set in a cabin in the middle of no where in a snow storm. I loved the creepiness of the story and just kept getting more and more intrigued with how everything will conclude! I would love this even if it was made into a longer book.

If you want something short, creepy, spicy this is the novella you should read!

Devour - K.T. Maddan

5/5⭐️

📚📚📚
This was my first time reading K.T. Maddan and I can gladly say I will be going back for more! This novella ate it up and left no crumbs 😅 Our FMC Emery is staying is a secluded cabin in the woods when on a HUGE deadline for her book. She loves the quiet but this cabins quiet is different than normal. Her bestie warns her to locks the door, shut the curtains and not to go in the woods after dark because of the things she believes in. Does Emery listen?! No. Without giving too much away I highly recommend grabbing this one! I read it in one sitting and he calls her his “Little Frost”!! 😍

Don’t mind me playing near the woods after dark now 😂😂 JK I’d be to scared.

… You should definitely check this out

This little novella was dark, primal, and ohh so satisfying. Set during a snowstorm in the middle of nowhere, the story follows our FMC, Emery, a secluded author on deadline, tucked away in a remote cabin. Enter our MMC, a mysterious cryptid who brings danger, desire, and a whole lot of tension.

What do you do when your best friend tells you not to wander into the dark forest? Naturally, you do exactly that. And from there, things get deliciously intense.

You can feel Emery’s emotions bleeding through the pages, her loneliness, her uncertainty, her need to be seen. It gives the novella surprising emotional depth beneath the heat and darkness.

If you like:
Forest demon/human dynamics
Primal play
Somnophilia
“Is this real or am I dreaming?!” vibes
Forced proximity
Snowed-in isolation
Secluded, creatively blocked author on deadline

Then this story will be right up your alley. Dark, sexy, and emotionally resonant in just the right ways.

Thank you K.T. Maddan for this ARC read! This was my first read from you but definitely not the last!

Aghhhhh. I wish I could read this all over again for the first time.
How this book was less than 100 pages I’ll never know. I feel like I’ve read a full length novel. It’s living in my head.

Our FMC - Emery. She’s a writer and she’s suffering with writers-block-itis and decides to relocate temporarily for a different type of scenery and hopefully some oomph.
When she gets to the serene and picturesque cabin, she feels something. Does she see something?

Our MMC - him. I’m not saying his name you’ll have to look at that for yourself because it’s cute.
He watches on, drawn completely to his Little Frost. Will he consume her completely or will she escape?

I’m beyond blessed to have read this book before its release. I can’t believe how good it is. This author has a massive fan in me and I can’t wait to read more.

When I tell you that this series of Cryptids has me in an absolute chokehold... I mean it.

Every time Author KT Maddan announces another novella I immediately have to have it!

My thoughts:
-Once again KT has managed to bring another one of my beloved cryptids to life... and like always she manages to create this character that is everything I could ever hope for and so much more.
-All the little details from their likely appearance...to how you would expect their mannerisms...to their supposed habitats....its perfection.
-Then you factor in this amazing story that she creates...and it's incredible!
-All the twists and turns... the little details that make you stop and think...was it real?
-Despite these stories being novellas they still manage to pack quite the punch!
-And let's not forget the spice...because lawd have mercy it is...chef's kiss!
-So don't mind me while I go wander in the woods....just kidding...kinda.

Devour by Katie Maddan sets a deliciously insidious tone, and true to its name, I DEVOURED it!

Set in a secluded cabin in the snowy forest, Emery decides to unplug from the world and focus on her novel. As her frustrations mount, so does her anxiety and slight paranoia, thanks to her bestie warning her about the dangers that lurk in the woods. And at night, while she dreams? Are they vivid dreams or something more? As each night progresses, she finds things are not as they seem and questions her sanity. She finds herself ensnared by this 7-foot forest demon daddy… Haunting her. Stalking her. Claiming her.

I always appreciate books that shed light on somnophilia, and this was so well done and added a delicious dose of psychological mind games. Anddd this demon daddy!! 🥵 I loved every bit of his character, his obsession with her is everything!! This is a delicious read right before you go to bed… so you too can dream about getting finger f*cked by a 7-foot forest demon 😈

Ever read something so twisted that you immediately consider running into the forest 🌲🌳 to find yourself a cryptid lover with a deer skull mask? 👀 - Yeah… that happened 🫣🫠 (don’t judge me!) 🖤

First time dipping my toes into a cryptid x human romance, and guess what? I’m obsessed! Fast-paced and strangely hot (again, don’t judge me!), this erotic horror novella was a wild ride. If dark, twisted love with sharp edges and claws is your thing - this one’s calling you 😏

Quote that lives rent-free in my head:
"I don’t need your permission to own you, Little Frost." 🥵

🔪⚠️ Trigger warnings apply, so please check them first. Your mental health matters 🖤

PS: If anyone sees a masked creature lurking and roaming in the woods whispering “You’re mine” - don’t call for help. Call me please - that might just be my soulmate 🫣🌲

Devour by K.T. Madden had me absolutely feral—in the best possible way. Emery North is a reclusive author battling insomnia, burnout, and the ghosts of her past when she escapes to a remote, frozen cabin… only to find herself face to face with a creature that calls her Little Frost. And let me tell you—he’s as unsettling as he is irresistible.

This might be my favorite novella from the whole series. K.T. Madden never misses, but Devour hits differently. From the atmosphere to the haunting tension to the utterly perfect creature lore (seriously, the mannerisms, the habitat, the way it all just clicks), it was perfection.

Despite its shorter length, this novella packs an emotional and erotic punch that some full-length novels couldn’t dream of delivering. And the spice? CHEF’S. KISS. If you like your romance dark, deadly, and delicious—you need this in your life. Immediately.

Yessss! I have absolutely loved this entire novella series, and this installment did not disappoint in the slightest. From the moment I started reading, I was hooked once again from the prologue.

The setting? Perfection. A secluded cabin buried deep in a snow covered forest. Also an impending snow storm is coming !! It’s the kind of place that sounds cozy at first until the silence starts to feel too quiet, and every scratch you hear makes your heart race. The isolation adds such an intense layer of suspense, and the way the tension (🤭) slowly builds made Emery constantly question what was real and what wasn’t.

If my best friend told me, “Don’t look out the windows and whatever you do, don’t go outside,” would I listen? Honestly… probably not. 😂 thank you KT for actually giving us the HEA you promised us 😂😂🖤

ARC REVIEW – ⭐⭐⭐

key' first of all, i want to thank u for giving me the opportunity to read the devour arc!

devour was a good book to tell the truth, it caught me from the first page and i enjoyed the two days i was reading the book, i loved the characters and the plot but i feel that it was somewhat empty, to say the least; wesley repeated the same words almost always and didn't have as much development as i would have liked... on the other hand, emery did have a bit more development and prominence in the book, seeing how she seemed to lose her sanity over him made me scream with excitement, so she as a character was entertaining.

the spicy scenes were good, they were neither too strong nor too soft, they were at a medium level but i'm not complaining.

but anyway, i hope you all enjoyed the book and have a wonderful read! happy devour release! 💗

“There is snow underfoot, and I can hear the crunch of it as I move, though I don’t remember deciding to walk.”
I know very well that this book is a horror book. I definitely get that we should feel suspense and like “what’s going to happen?!?!” But this quote is what had me busting up. I know, time and place and all but it was funny. Like “huh, how did that happen?!” At least that is how I read it in my head.

The series that K.T. Maddan writes to just change up her pace and let the words flow, has slowly become one of my favorite series. It’s so entertaining to see what she will come up with next. So when she came out with Devour, I was absolutely obsessed and excited to see where we were going to go with this one. I was not disappointed at all!! This may be a short read but it definitely is a delicious read. Check the trigger warnings before reading but have a wonderful read!!!

This was a dark and deliciously twisted novella and the name suggests it all- because i did well and truly devour this in one night.
She is a writer in a writing slump who goes to stay at a "serial killer cabin" and he is a forest dweller, or demon- whichever way you would like to look at him, who is enamoured by her aura and is drawn to her and her lonliness.
I enjoyed reading this great novella. It quick, of course I was drawn to the possessive stalker MMC who stole the attention from me, it had a interesting plot- holy f***- Yes please and thankyou and there was some spice but not too much which is ideal in a shorter story.

'Hello, 911? Some seven-foot lunatic in a deer skull mask finger-fucked me in my Breezebnb.'

If you are in the market for a quick little dark read, this is certainly it. I liked that this one didn’t take after one specific legend and could be interpreted many different ways/has qualities of different monsters. This novella certainly has the psychological fear factor down! Emery doesn’t know what is real anymore! She questions reality and her own mind and body.

I like our monster! He’s dark and foreboding, but can also be very sexy! I like this story very much as it actually has a happy ending! I felt satisfied after finishing this one, although I think I would have loved some more to their story, it was over very quickly. This novella definitely leaves an impression!

Unhinged. Possessive. Downright delicious. K.T. Maddan latest crytpid release: Devour …. And it completely will Devour you 😉

The chemistry between the main characters was so intense and seductive. The forest demon obsession with Emery is everything!! It makes you question your own sanity just as she did. This is a quick read novella but it’s dark and twisted. KT plays a little psychological mind games with you as you read along. Let’s also not forget the SPICE is without a doubt spicing. If you’re into a 7-foot forest demon that loves to Haunt, Stalk, and Stake his Claim. Then this is the book for you that way you can dream about getting finger f*cked by a 7-foot forest demon. Devour will have you questioning if any of it was really real? As you’re consumed by it!!!!

This Cryptid Desires Series by KT Madden is my new obsession. Each novella is unique, creative and sinfully sexy in its own way and packs so much suspenseful, intense? panty melting plot. Devour is one heck of a dark mindfuck, and I ate it all up. The heart pumping suspense and ghostly vibes made this one creepy, fierce read. Secluded forced proximity, primal play, and paranormal elements make this an excellent horror romance. Incredible detail into the character development makes you feel it all. The undeniable chemistry, our characters being drawn to each other is so intense and the perfect amount of spice make this an amazing read. I highly recommend all the books in this crypto series. Thank you for the eArc, This was such a cute fun read, this is a horror erotica and it’s was such a great palette cleanser! It’s so short but filled with just the right amount of information!

I throughly enjoyed the primal hunt, the predatory nature, and the taunting. For he is and always will be one with nature, the sinking feeling to hunt and to be.

Emery is a writer with a deadline, so why not haul herself into a cabin away from distractions of the city. Until she is starts going crazy and imagining things stalking her outside her cabin at night…. But is it really all just in her head? Or maybe it’s just the story finally coming together!

This was my first erotic horror novella and oooffff! I LOVED IT! Emery decides to take a solo trip to a secluded cabin in the middle of winter in order help write her book. And she gets A LOT more than she bargains for. I’m not sure how this was less than 100 pages.. I felt like this was a whole story but also was begging for more! Please check your TW! If your looking for a cryptid novella that keeps you intrigued, Devour is for you. This is the third novella in K.T. Maddan's cryptid desires series.

What would you do if some giant skull-faced antlered creature could not only speak into your mind, but also give you amazing orgasms? Emory, an author looking for solitude, stays at an cabin in the middle of the woods. What she starts to think is only a dream turns into reality.

I loved how the MMC referred to her as "Little Frost". I'm a sucker for nicknames. I read this in one sitting. I was captivated by the story and what was happening.

Okay… what did I just read?! Because I’m still not over it.

This novella was something completely new for me. I went in expecting a dark romance, and came out questioning everything—my morals, my taste in love interests, and who I subconsciously call out to when I'm walking in the woods.

Devour is weirdly beautiful and a little unhinged and I mean that with intrigue. The writing pulled me in fast and the FMC is relatable- I think? The story was intense and addictive and made me uncomfortable in ways and I'm pretty sure I liked it? I think there’s a happily ever after? Maybe?? Honestly, I’m still trying to figure that out.
