Loving Jordan #1

Seducing Jordan

Rate this book
A weekend fling to satisfy their fantasies could destroy their friendship.

Princeton-bound Jordan Callahan is sick of lusting for Rick—his straight best friend and former captain of the football team. He can’t wait for college, so he can find a man to drive away his pointless crush.

Rick Ferguson can’t escape his strange obsession. For months, whenever he's been with a woman, all he can think about is Jordan. Satisfying his curiosity is the only way to get his tall, muscular friend out of his system. Right?

On a camping trip just weeks before the semester starts, Rick takes Jordan to a one-bedroom cabin with a king-sized bed big enough for two all-stars to share. But Rick doesn't want forever, and Jordan is in love. Giving in to desire could jeopardize their friendship, and the ugliness of the world beyond their cabin could tear them apart.

This steamy gay romance novella is intended for a mature audience. It contains scenes of groping, fumbling, wet kisses, angst, shirtless volleyball, grown-up toys, and two-man showers.

Nope. Another freebie from somewhere.

.A jolt of electricity shot straight to Jordan’s cock. He swallowed hard, getting a grip on the shakiness that had taken over his insides. His neck and cheeks warmed, and his breath deepened. (Sounds like you got electrocuted.)

“I didn’t quit because of you. I quit because of them. All that time I’d worked hard to follow their rules, to win their approval, only to find out their approval wasn’t worth having. They made me feel dirty. I’d let them become part of my identity, but I never really knew who they were. It was like finding out they were part of the KKK.” (You lost me between Boy Scouts and KKK.)

Bye!

Just finished this part.
I read the bundle. And I'm on book 2 now.
The ending was very satisfying. For now.
I know they'll separated for 5 years. But, at their age, who would not?
The sex was steamy and good between those two boys. Experiments and all.
Full review will be posted in the bundle edition. I'm on it :)

“Licence my roving hands, and let them go
Before, behind, between, above, below.”
- John Donne, The Complete English Poems

Jordan Callahan secretly pines for his straight best friend Rick Ferguson who, unknown to Jordan, has also been dealing with "strange feelings" for him for the past months. Before leaving for their respective colleges, both buddies will spend a weekend together. A lifelong friendship will be tested when passions rise and secrets are let out in the open.

This was one of those ultimate gay fantasy tropes that could either end on a happy note or in a catastrophe. From the get-go, I was eager to know how things would pan out since the seduction was initiated by a supposedly "straight" guy and not the other way around. By the middle of the book, I was hooked and not disappointed.

It takes two to tango and for this vibrant sensual dance to be performed well, the dancers should possess certain characteristics. There should be trust and that magical connection between them. They should also leave room for improvisation during the dance's execution. Rick and Jordan had these and their "performance" gave off enough steam to thaw a winter's chill from within and without.

The intimate scenes were essential to the plot and I liked how the author approached and wrote them. Between and beyond the printed lines, one can read and sense Rick and Jordan's love for the other that was borne out of their lifelong friendship. Rick's vacillations were understandable and Jordan's acceptance of whatever the future held were realistic. The need to protect and preserve their friendship, however, despite what may happen after the weekend was a major consideration for them. I found this sweet and admirable on their part (and that it was not just colored by each one's testosterone-fueled lust).

There were also a couple of short scenes I liked involving a bigot, allies and a lesbian. Having these minor characters around with their views on homosexuality further enriched the storyline.

On the whole, I enjoyed reading about Rick and Jordan's weekend getaway. In more ways than one, Andrea Dalling certainly knows how to "torture" not only her protagonists but also her readers as well. Moreover, I will not tell whether she "rewarded" these guys with a happily-ever-after (HEA). That is, for you fellow reader, to find out.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rick and Jordan are childhood friends and four weeks before they go off to their respective college, Rick plans a trip to the Pocono Mountains for them. But when they get there the real reason Rick planned the trip comes to light. The two start something that will either screw up their relationship or be the best thing that happened to them.

This was a hard book for me to get through. I can't say I could really appreciate the characters at all. There were times where I was highly annoyed by Rick. I felt he was too wishy washy, a huge hypocrite (even he admits he's one in the story) and I just didn't like the way he treated Jordan when he got scared/nervous.

It wasn't just Rick I felt this way about either. Jordan also hit on some issues that bugged me like just going with the flow and just giving in to whatever Rick wanted. I wanted him to really take a stand for what he wanted and not in the kidding way he brought it up.

In the way of the writing, paragraph to paragraph it was confusing as to whose thought I was reading. Rick and Jordan's emotion were all jumbled together for me since one paragraph would focus on Rick and then continue (with Rick) or switch to Jordan in the next paragraph.

The relationship development was quick and it was a little unsettling to think about everything that was happen with Jordan getting all this new info. The two fighting their feelings and the back and forth about it all just was almost headache inducing.

I was curious about the enema thing since I haven't seen many mention of it in other books I've read. Also the nitty gritty experience with sex between the two was different. I mean it's not everyday a book details a stray pubic hair in a characters mouth.

For me the ending, was the saving grace.

I loved this book! Jordan and Rick are great together. I felt the plot and how the story unfolded has a lot of realism to it.

Jordan and Rick have been best friends since like 1st grade. Now they are getting ready to go off to college in different states. Jordan has been out as gay for about 3 years, and Rick has always identified himself as straight and has had a girlfriend for 3 years. But for the past 6 months, Rick has been thinking about Jordan in a different way, fantasizing about him. And he has even gotten to the point where in order to have sex with Cynthia - his girlfriend - he pictures it's Jordan instead.

So, because they are getting ready to be separated by college, Rick decides that if he is ever going to understand what his real feelings are for Jordan, he needs to tell him. Rick arranges from them to go "camping" in a cabin ... with just a king size bed. It takes a while for Jordan to realize there is just one bed. Before he does, Rick and Jordan talk about college and we as the reader are able to get the story from both characters, and we understand what each is thinking and feeling. Jordan thinks he sometimes sees desire in his friend's eyes, but dismisses it because Jordan has been in love with Rick forever. He believes he is only seeing what he wants to see.

For Rick, he is very nervous because this is his best friend he is about to seduce, and it's a man. He is really freaked about what this means about himself, is he gay, bi? What?

Eventually, through a lot of discussion and teasing kisses, Jordan agrees to spend their few days in the cabin "being together." Which means doing as much as each is comfortable doing. They are both afraid that they are going to ruin their friendship but promise - repeatedly - that they will be friends forever, no matter what. Jordan is still afraid though. He has been in love with Rick for a long time, and it's a forever kind of love. He is afraid Rick is experimenting and will forget about him when he goes off to college and there are all these girls. Jordan's afraid that his love will only grow stronger the more he is with Rick in a sexual way, and fears his heart will never heal if things go badly.

It's heartbreaking to read about Jordan's feelings for Rick knowing they aren't really the same. Jordan has always known that he was gay and that he loved Rick. Rick doesn't know what he is and his "love" for Jordan is still new. I thought the author handled this aspect of the story in a very realistic way and thought: something like this could really happen. I never once thought the characters actions were out of place or questioned its believability. The story wasn't rushed (don't let the shortness fool you; there is a lot packed in), Jordan and Rick didn't jump into bed. They waited, talked, teased, and when the time was right, moved forward. It was done very well. I was worried about that aspect and am soooo glad the story turned out the way it did. I can't express enough how well the situation with Jordan and Rick was handled.

Rick has fantasized about having anal sex with Jordan, but Jordan isn't ready for that. They do A LOT of kissing, hand jobs, Jordan give Rick several BJ's, rimming. There are some toys involved, which was nice because they are both new to this and it's funny to see them experiment.

There is tension between the two though because Rick is really struggling with this. He is sort of having an identity crisis. Is he gay? etc... He wonders what his family will say, the kids from high school, his teammates (football), strangers. It's really a lot to deal with at 18, and I think they both handle the situation very well. That's not to say there weren't moments that aggravated me. I did get tired of the constant vacillating back and forth between the two of them about deciding to go forward with having sex. Jordan says yes, then Rick is all hesitant, and even decides to stop things altogether but backs down when he sees how devastated Jordan is. I totally get this is a major decision in both of their lives, I just wish this had been toned down just a little.

I hated that the story ended where it did, but I know there is a "sequel" to their story, so I'm not worried. I will absolutely look for that story so I can finish Jordan and Rick's romance.

One thing (ok, one of a few, haha) that bothered me is they called each other "bitch." I didn't get it, I mean I did, but I didn't. What the hell was up with them saying "tell me you're my bitch,"? Yeah, that didn't do it for me. It kind of ruined the moment. Maybe the first time I read it it was funny, but they kept saying it. Not a lot, but enough to make me frown.

I've never read anything by this author (that I know of) but I will certainly be checking out more of her stuff. The writing was done well, a few transition confusions for me, but overall this was a great story and the ending was lovely, but you can certainly tell it's not over for them. Ahh, young love. So sweet. Sigh.

I would absolutely recommend this book to someone who wants a sweet read about love and 2 men who are best friends trying to navigate their new romance. I am going to read this again, you can be sure!

Jordan Callahan and Rick Ferguson have been best friends since grade school. And that didn't change when Jordan came out. Both are athletic and good-looking and both are now college bound and a bit worried about how their friendship will change when they go to different schools in the fall.

Jordan has always had a bit of a crush on his best friend and he's reconciled to the fact that it will never amount to anything... That is until Rick plans a week-long trip away together and tells Jordan that he'd like to experiment with some m/m urges that he's been having.

Jordan has always been the thoughtful one where Rick has been a bit rash and impetuous. Now Jordan is worried by what might result if he gives into his libido and helps Rick explore the urges he's been having. While the sex might be mind-blowing and a fulfillment of many of Jordan's fantasies, what might be the impact on their friendship? And is Rick willing to give Jordan more than just hot, but secret sex?

This short novella delves into these issues and the setting and the guys involved make this a thoroughly pleasant read. It's difficult to find new material in this thoroughly explored ground but the story is entertaining and the thoroughly workman-like prose is worth the reading time. The characters might have had more depth if we'd actually seen more incidents of their past instead of just being told and I'd be more interested in more details as to what happens next after the story ends but there's no reason that this might not have a sequel or even be re-worked into a longer book.

Other reviewers have criticized the Rick character as being self centered and thoughtless but that read as very realistic to me when the protagonist is a high school senior. If anything, the Jordan character is a bit unrealistically mature given most of the high-school seniors I've known.

But still, read it for yourself and judge. At 90 pages it's a quick read and certainly steamy enough in spots to hold your attention.

This book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book is hot and awesome, steaming and thoughtful; it’s the perfect blend of mush with substance.

One thing is clear; Rick and Jordan ooze sensuality. This book is about sexual discovery and things get hot beyond your imagination. It's got that whole ache of desire thing down to a T.

But while this book is essentially regarding coming to terms with your sexuality and sexual identity, it also deals with dealing with your identity in general and how your understanding of your sexuality impacts your identity and your perception of yourself.

Rick is not only fantasizing about his best friend but at the same time he is working out the dynamics of what this observation is going to cost him, how much it will alter his life and his coming future. While most of the times he is horny, what I loved about this book was that it really went into the depths of what his coming out would do to Rick, in terms of his own perceptions of himself. Because while to some extent he realizes that he can negate outside influences, he is in essence battling his own take on himself and what he thinks he wants for his future.

Jordan on the other hand has already come to terms with his sexuality and has been pining after his best friend ever since. But when his friend starts questioning his sexuality and wants to experiment, things might actually have taken a turn for the worse, because can Jordan ever stop pining for his friend after this one taste of what their being together looks like.

This story is truly complete in substance. It doesn’t lack development in any area because we get to see these two characters as they see themselves.

On the whole this book is a great read, hot but at the same time it has substance in its story and well-fleshed out characters which get you really engrossed in their lives. One thing's for sure I am definitely reading the sequel.

This is a friends to lovers story.
We have Jordan (Jordy...ick... I shuddered every time I read that) who is gay and his 'straight' best friend Rick.
They have been best friends forever and in two weeks they are going their separate ways to different colleges.
Rick decided to experiment with Jordan to see if he's gay. Yes really.

There was so much 'head-hopping' it was really difficult to work out whose PoV we were in.

I've never heard two 18 year old boys talk the way these two do. Ridiculously immature at some points and unrealistically mature at others
Overly sentimental and sappy, declaring undying love and crying at the drop of a hat.

There was a lot of back and forth with Rick coming across as a manipulative prick and Jordan as insecure, needy and desperate for any scraps Rick is willing to throw his way.

It felt weird that Rick was the one pushing for the two of them to spend the weekend having sex. He's the straight one with the girlfriend...it didn't feel right. Especially considering he was adamant that he didn't want a relationship with Jordan.
Rick pushed for Jordan to give him everything but wouldn't do the same in return.
Then in the last chapter Rick does a complete 180 and in two or three paragraphs goes back on everything he's been saying for the whole book and Jordan just accepts it, no argument, no questions, nothing. Riiiiight....

It's not horrendous but it's not exactly believable either.

Jordy and Rick had been friends for a long time. Jordy was out but Rick considered himself straight up until the last 6 months. Then he decided that he was in love with his best friend.
Just before the 2 of them split to go to seperate colleges, Rick plans a weekend in a cabin where he is going to tell Jordy how he feels.
I should have loved this book. Friends to lovers and GFY to boot but Rick drove me crazy.
He couldn't make up his mind if he was gay. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I felt sorry for Jordy. Then miraculously he sees the light.
I see there is a further book in this series, not sure yet if I will read on.

Boring. Basic.

Friends to lovers.

Jordan and Rick have been best friends since first grade. They’re both 18 and going away to separate colleges so Rick who is straight decides to invite his friend Jordan who is a gay virgin (Jordy 🙄) to a cabin to seduce him. Rick has a gf and has been fantasizing about his friend and he wants to use this time to experiment.

The entire story felt odd. The writing was very basic. I couldn’t tell the characters apart. They were both so annoying and immature. There was also a lot of going back and forth. And I kept getting confused about who was who … this just was a waste of time. And I almost dnf but it was short enough that I finished it. Absolutely won’t be reading more

What Should I Do?

Rick has everything, a girlfriend, high school friends, loving parents and a wonderful best friend. Who he loves. Can he give up his plans for the future and admit he's gay?

Jordan came out as a teenager and Rick has always supported him. Now they're going away to different colleges and after a weekend of becoming lovers, Jordan has to wait to know what Rick will want from the future.

You'll need to read 'Tempting Jordan' to find out Rick's decision.

A beautifully written story of young lovers faced with difficult decisions.

There is a lot to this sweet story about two friends and their last weekend together before college. Andrea Dalling packs the pages with angst, turmoil, and the uncertainty of teens trying to decide what they want from the future and each other. There's even a sprinkling of fear as they try to hide what they feel from small minds in a small town. It's a quick, light read with bits of drama and tenderness that make it well worth your time.

Give it a try. You won't be sorry.

DNF at 38% even though it’s short.

It started well but:
- the two 3rd POV back and forth were confusing.

- Jordan is in love with his best friend and when said best friend confesses he wants their friendship to go further Jordan suddenly goes all “I’m not here for you to use as an experiment” I get the idea but I also think the guy is 18, a virgin, his obsession starts kissing him and he’s like “mmm, let’s think about it, you’re going to break my heart” 🤔 I’ve been 18 and I want to laugh at that idea 😅 You’re not 35 man, just have some fun

- Then it’s a lot of hot and cold between them which is annoying

- And when they want to take things further in bed, first Jordan gets immediately defensive with “oh you assume I’m going to bottom because I’m gay” Again, I get the idea but I think it was too much, especially from someone he knows so well and trusts. And then out of nowhere one of them is like “tell me you’re my bitch” 🫣
I’m all for dirty talk but I hate when it comes out of nowhere like that. It always sounds ridiculous and aggressive if done like that IMO.

- And arghh I hate the whole “oh but Rick you’re bi so you’re going to date/have sex with lots of women once in college” This image of the bisexual who is more needy/flimsy because he’s attracted to 2 genders pisses me off…

Oh and I got this for free a few months ago so I didn’t realise until I started it that it’s one of those novel that got divided into novellas to sell more and argh…I hate that. Just write the whole story as one novel instead of dragging it…

Heartwarming and very hot

This is a short read but very intense. I really enjoy it. It's a touching story about a homosexual boy Jorda in love with his straight friend Rick. They have a last outdoor weekend before going to college in different states. Rick has a really big heart and he love his almost ex girlfriend Cynthia and his gay friend Jordan, too. Everything was so emotional : the internal struggle of Rick, the bad way people treat homosexual people, the love that Rick feels and the shame of being judged. That all feels so real and makes you want to fight for the pride of LGBTQ people. But the best part are the steamy scenes. There a so many hot steamy scenes that malted my kindle. I often find 2 or 3 steamy scenes in 400 pages and it was wonderful to find so many in less than 100 pages. I like my books steamy but if it's without love I don't like it. I read so many fated mates stories and omegaverse but even if they were MM stories you know immediately who is the "woman" in it. The most interesting thing in this story is that the boys fight who is the top and who is the bottom and ended up both doing both. There is a little bit of toys that make it even hotter. The best is the deep friendship and love between the boys.

Very sweet

This is a very sweet and tender love story. Jordan is out and in love with his best friend, who’s straight, Rick. Rick recently broke up with his long time girlfriend, Cyn. Rick has loved Jordan as a friend but finds his feelings for Jordan is growing into more than friendship so he’s made plans to spend some alone time with Jordan to see if their friendship can develop into romantic love. So many deep feelings on both sides. They’ll soon be heading off in different directions to different colleges. They’ll meet different people, run in different circles. How will they continue their romantic relationship when it’s barely started? Hell if I know. I’ll have to read the next book.

Rick is beginning to question his sexuality, so before heading off to college he sets up a weekend away with his best friend Jordan. Jordan came out at 15 and was kicked out of scouts. Rick quit in solidarity but the experience has had him hiding behind a mask ever since. Rick's mask has been falling away recently and he's been fantasizing about Jordan. What better way to find out who he really is by seducing Jordan. Jordan has wanted Rick for some time but he wants more than Rick is able to give. Will Jordan end up with a broken heart, or will Rick step up and accept the love he's offered?

Review originally posted on The Book Adventures of Annelise Lestrange :)

The Story

Jordan can’t wait for college to start. He is so tired of desiring his very straight best friend Rick and getting nowhere, of being trapped in a small town without options to openly explore his sexuality. More than anything, he is tired of the hypocrisy that surrounds him. Jordan knows he still may have problems in college and on his adult life thanks to his sexual orientation, but he refuses to hide who he is to please others.

Jordan needs a change of scenario, now.

Rick can only think of one thing for months now: his best friend Jordan. With college so close, Rick is nervous to share Jordan with the world and maybe lose him to some random stranger who won’t just become his best friend, but also his lover. Rick can’t stop thinking about having sex with Jordan, but wouldn’t that mean that… He is gay too?

Rick needs a change of scenario, now.

Determinated to understand himself and show Jordan how he doesn’t need college guys, Rick sets up a romantic camping trip for them. But will it the problems between them or just show them that sex indeed just complicates everything in a friendship?

The Analysis
Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)

I’d like to start this review saying that this book is a novella (aka quick read) and an excuse to read about gay sex between curious virgins teens. I honestly thought it had much potential and maybe the next book will deliver that, but it didn’t happen this time. However, it was an entertaining read, as there is no instalove, the characters are very well developed through the pages and the sex is the most real that I have ever read, for good and bad. It served me well and I was amused every time I picked it up for reading in between my official April reads, but it isn’t impressive by any means. Four stars :)

The narrative is third person with switching points of view between Jordan and Rick. Dalling’s writing style is smooth and simple, you fly through her words and the reader doesn’t even notices how much he already got into the story until it is over, haha! It is very engaging and we are trapped in Jordan and Rick’s own confusions and feelings. I liked Dalling’s style and definitely will keep reading this series – at least the gay books, I’ll explain this better later.

The plot was simple, but I wasn’t sure of the outcome until the last page. I had mixed feelings about the immediate future of Jordan and Rick, but I liked how they ended. Dalling was very realistic in portraying the boys’ relationship, how it developed, transformed in the weekend they shared on the camping trip. I honestly missed seeing a little of their relationship before the camping trip, to evaluate for myself how things went instead of trusting Jordan and Rick’s memories, but oh well.

The characters were well constructed for such a short story, but I have to say that Rick is a dick, haha! You saw what I did there. Jordan is cute enough, but I wasn’t very pleased with his submissive way towards Rick. I mean, Rick always had him way with Jordan, he used Jordan’s feelings. I don’t like when this happens to achieve sex. Hell, you have to have a very good reason for me to put up with this! And sex is so not a good one!

I honestly hope to see Rick growing up in all senses or else, I sense Jordan suffering a lot in his hands and he totally doesn’t deserve that!

Now, let’s talk about sex scenes. This book is all about sex. What makes it interesting is how Dalling glues said scenes with the story events, how she manages to make every scene a key piece of the puzzle that is Jordan and Rick. I was highly amused to see how realistic she was even with the small things, it was educative and entertaining at the same time. Just like hetero romances do, a lot of times homosexual romances won’t contemplate the small things a couple has to take care of to have sex, but not with Dalling. Every small step was there and for that, I give her a big high five :)

And can we just take a second to look at this wonderful cover? It was the decisive piece for me to download and start reading Seducing Jordan right away, haha!

About the comment I made about only reading Dalling’s gay books, let me explain myself better, haha! You see, Ache of Desire currently has five books. The next book, Handling Cynthia, isn’t focused on Jordan and Rick as you may have guessed from the title, but on Rick’s ex-girlfriend, Cynthia. Annelise, dear, sometimes you are such a genius. *sarcasm*

ANYWAY, the blurb makes it quite clear that Cynthia likes BSDM and, while I don’t oppose to it (it’s a free world, you should enjoy it if that’s your thing), BSDM is so not my thing. I make exceptions here and there, but I don’t think I’d stand a hetero BSDM-sex-only-book. I ironically don’t deal well with those, oops! Jordan and Rick’s story comes back on the third and fifth books, so I plan to grab those :)

Overall, if you enjoy gay romance, quick and steamy hot reads and don’t mind uncertain ends, you should give this book a go :)

Thanks for reading my review! I took at look at Amazon and unfortunately the book is back to $0,99, but you can still read it for free if you are a Kindle Unlimited user :)

Decent book

I understood Rick being hesitant and nervous about this new side of him sexually but I felt that he was still using Jordan for sex and in other ways choosing to ignore his Jordan truly felt about him until Jordan had to really let Rick know he wasn't going to be a secret and get his heart broke. I'm glad things seemed to end on a good note but Rick has a long journey ahead.

Boring HFN

Not only is it boring, but these guys are whiny, insecure, emotionally stunted, and uninteresting. I don't care if they ever get together because of how much they complain about each other. Ugh. I see the next book skips ahead in time with these two broken up. No thanks.

A rather heart wrenching short, two young men, longtime friends, one gay, one not, or . . is he? This is their last weekend together before they go off to separate colleges, maybe it's time for some truths. It's sad as they struggle with it, as they try to make it work. There are a couple of following stories but my heart still hurts for them for now.

3.5 Stars

I want this to be closer to 4 stars because it held my interest enough to want to know what happens.
However, the writing is choppy. And in more than one scene, the characters were already naked and then took off their clothes again. Lower rating for the continuity issues.

Well that took a while

Lots of sex. Lots of drama and angst. I would have hit them in the head, but what can you do with 18 year olds. I'm interested to see what's in store for these two.

Writing was very basic and not interesting. I didn't realize at first that it was one of those books that is short with the first free on Kindle Unlimited and then subsequent ones paid. Decided to end it half way as it didn't hold my interest.

I like the story line a lot and quickly became invested in the characters. So much so that I imediately bought books 2 and 3 in the series.
