I wanted to be a children's writer from the age of about 10, but got distracted and became an anthropologist instead. I did fieldwork research in south India and then worked for ten years as an academic. I wrote my first children's book, Frogspell, while taking a break between jobs. The sequels, Cauldron Spells, Ice Spell and Swordspell are all now out and I'm working on a new trilogy, starting with Deep Amber which is out in March 2014. My books are fantasies, aimed at ages 7-10, with lots of humour and adventure. They are equally aimed at girls and boys - and grown-ups seem to quite enjoy them too!

As a fanatical lover of Dragons I'm drawn to any book that has the word in the title.
I also really enjoyed the Frogspell series by C J Busby, so I had to give this a try when it came into the library where I work.
Having realised it was book two of a trilogy, I naturally got hold of book one first, and enjoyed that, so I was really looking forward to this one.
It continues the adventures of Jem and Dora, Cat and Simon, hopping between the worlds as before. I liked the way the chapters alternated between the realms in the first one. This time, it is a bit harder to separate, since characters are switching between one world and the next, but it was easy to follow.
I like the characters, and the situations they get into - whilst a little predictable to a 'mature' reader such as myself - will carry the reader with them, willing them on.
I was a tad disappointed in the ending, which seemed in some ways to be 'oh, I've reached my word count, I'd better set up book three and leave it there' The last bit was a little rushed. It did manage to do the job insofar as making me impatient for next March, when book three is released. I'll definitely check it out. {Though by then I'll probably have to reread the first two to remind myself what happened. I don't normally start a series unless I know they've all been released for that very reason.}

A good easy read for those who like a bit of adventure.
