Whoever said living in California was glamorous and easy-going lied through their fucking teeth. I guess I can blame reality TV for that pervasive B.S. Maybe it was good thing my old man banned television at home for all the years he was alive, after all. I probably would’ve been even more deluded than I was when I’d moved up here from Arkansas three months ago.
Looking back, I’m not even sure why I did it; why, of all the places I could’ve chosen to start a new life, I picked San Francisco: one of the most expensive places in the world to live. I don’t even know anyone one here. Heck, I’d never even visited the city before my move.
Still, I’m determined to make it here, to make something of myself. And that means I have no time for distractions of any kind—especially guys.
But then, he comes along; the sexiest, strongest, most handsome, most intimidating, and most powerful man I’ve ever seen.
He’s absolutely gorgeous, with eyes that seem to burn right through my soul and the most charming smile in existence, and his allure, his entire being, is simply magnetic.
He’s impossibly beautiful and just…ugh, perfect. He’s perfect. He’s everything every woman—and possibly quite a few men—wants, including me.
What I’m not prepared for, though, is how much he wants me, too.
However, there are three problems.
One: He’s not a man.
Two: I can only see him in my dreams.
And three: He commands an army of soul reapers.
And, apparently, that’s just the beginning…

Immerse yourself in the third thrilling installment of Eme Strife's addictive, sexy, enchanting, and surreal series. Each page will leave you even more enthralled than the last, on the edge of your seat, and vigorously chomping at the bit for more.
This series unfolds over several volumes. IT IS NOT A STANDALONE.
Rated 18+
This series contains graphic sexual content, violence, and strong language. Because of its explicit nature, it is intended for mature audiences only. Reader discretion is advised.
This book was previously published as an older edition. This is the new one.
Eme (pronounced "Emmy", like the award. Lol) is an unconventional storyteller (and a typical cat-and-dog-loving, animation-obsessed weirdo) who has several sarcastic, upbeat, and severely vulgar imaginary friends who simultaneously piss her off and make her feel normal. She writes about said imaginary friends a lot—mostly because they never seem to shut the hell up.
She's addicted to Family Guy, American Dad, Korean dramas, Japanime, and Pandora (the online radio site, not the evil box), drinks an ungodly amount of Red Bull at any given time, wants to marry Seth MacFarlane's voice at some point, and occasionally eats bacon and popcorn together (^_^).
You can keep up with Eme and her unconventional life at www.emestrife.com. You can also chat with her on Facebook, chirp away on Twitter, or just shoot her good old-fashioned email at eme@emestrife.com. She’s always eager to hear from you, so don’t be shy. Drop a line!
Now the ball is definitely rolling and picking up some speed. Matthiel knows that Eli might be involved somehow but can’t focus on that just yet with the fact that chaos is now surrounding them. He was born to be the man in charge and he’s going to need all his training when dealing with the little fact that the Atlantic Ocean has up sticks and disappeared leaving half a million sea life and humans in danger. Mystical creatures that humans don’t know about and they would like to keep it that way if possible. Well the second the cameras get there that’s all going to change. His plan is simple, get in and out as quick as possible saving as many as they can before the humans figure out what is really at the bottom of the ocean.
Seems he’s not the only one who has a bit of craziness surrounding them. Monty’s Rubies is anything but club paradise after the craziness that soon occurs. When Eli gets to work a colleague Belinda gets a little too close for Eli’s liking. She may have a bit of a girl crush on her with her being an attractive woman but that’s as far as it goes. Seems Belinda likes how good Eli smells, something Matthiel and his other reapers noticed too. Well the other reapers noticed her lingering smell, not from her direct. If that wasn’t going to put her on edge then the fact whenever she looks in the mirror or catches a refection of herself she notices her eyes are changing colour sure will. It might not be just her eyes that are changing after she finds herself alone in the wine cellar and strange things start to happen. Putting away bottles more expensive that a lifetime worth of wages is enough to put you on edge but throw in hot flushes, dizziness, a possible earthquake and a strange globe and she soon dives head first into a world of strange. Water into wine might not be just a saying. She may not believe what she is seeing but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to help and fix things. Even though she doesn’t know how to do it. My guess is she will soon enough. Preferably once she’s back in Matthiel’s arms. Lets hope that’s sooner rather than later as these changes I fear are only going to get worse.
Again I think I would give this about an 8/10 on my grading scale.
I have enjoyed how this story progressed from the get go. This is the more action packed of the two series that I have read by Strife. I think being teleported in your dreams is a nifty idea! And I've been looking forward to seeing how Eli and Matthiel work out since book 1.
Obviously they reunite in this book, or it would be terribly frustrating as a reader to continue. Some things are explained about the world, but then there are many many questions.
I know that as an author it's good to leave your readers wondering what is going on to get them to continue, but sometimes an overwhelming amount of wtf how does that even work can leave someone frustrated. I just keep reminding myself though that there are 7 more stories to this. I will get to an end and hopefully be satisfied with how things are explained.
My only grievance this time around is that I wish there was more world building and more explanation for those wtf moments. I understand it's a short story, so it can't all be explained at once. But there are certain items that do make it frustrating to read about but not understand since it was never explained. I'm hoping next time comes with more answers and a whole heck of a lot action too! Happy reading!
This book is growing on me. It's not the kind I normally read but I am liking it more and more with each book. It has a lot of characters and it sometimes is hard to follow who's who. However it doesn't take away from the story.
One thing that does make it hard for me,and I'm not a prude, but there is a bit too much swearing. Even though this is not exactly my cup of tea I do find myself really wanting to know what will happen with Eli and Matt in the next story.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I felt this Volume was more evolved in story line. i felt like i was sitting on the edge of my seat seeing with my own eyes the sea missing, dead mermaid and wine in the sea with glass shards. All because of one girl, who didn't even know what she has done. need more....
ARC Review: I'm still in love with this series. I still find it to be so original and spellbinding. I hate that each installment is so short (granted this third installment is a bit longer than the last) and having to wait to sink your teeth into the next one. But the wait is usually worth it. These do have to be read in order, so go back to the beginning. Trust, it's worth it!
I like the series so far. It finally feel things are picking up. The story is short but easy to read. Like the characters especially Matthiel.
Matthiel realize Eli must have something to do with all the mess that's going around. But he not sure if she is real or just a fragment of his imagination. The only thing I don't like it's to short.
I really liked the book as it was somewhat different what I have read before and it was not what I expected it to be. Book had a lot of characters in it and it was difficult to follow who is who, because not much description or explanation was given and as I have not read the previous volumes, everyone was new for me. But this does not interfere with understanding the current situation if you do not let the unknowing bother you. And unknowing - there is a lot of it, because not much time and space is spent to describe the world and characters, which I would have liked more, but maybe I should just start with the first book.. If the first volumes have anything like that added.. Which I'm guessing not, as read from the comments of the first volume.
The language was a bit too much for my taste too - a little less "fuck" should be used in my opinion and change it to some other curse words perhaps, if cursing is needed. Main characters, in this case, are also a bit too one-sided. But nothing than a little added imagination can not fix. Anyway the story was great and cant wait to find out what happens with Eli and Matt!
WOW! I am just blown away at how far this story has come in just three short volumes and I hope there is still more to come as this last volume has left us at such a cliffhanger. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the slower character development that I saw in these stories either but I like how it lends itself to how the story is playing out and keeps you interested and guessing. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait for the next volume.
OMG! honestly OMG! I was so not prepared for what happened in this volume of the serial. Though I have to admit Eme Strife is keeping me on my reader's toes. I can't wait to see what is going to happen and what is up with Eli and her smell? and the Green Eye thing?
