Out of Tune

Rate this book
Early in her music career, Avery Sloane was labeled as bitter and hard to swallow. She’s learned to do whatever it takes to keep her crown as America’s pop-rock princess. She bites her tongue, goes to the right parties, and is engaged to the perfect guy.

But there is one problem, Wesley Hart, her ex-best friend and husband.

Fourteen years ago, Wesley married Avery to help her access her inheritance and chase their childhood dream of making music. Now, she’s at his apartment in the middle of the night with divorce papers, all so she can marry another man. But Wesley is not giving up without a fight.

He’ll sign the divorce papers if Avery agrees to one final tour together.

Alternating between past and present, Avery and Wesley must determine if what's between them is truly broken, or if they’re just a little out of tune.

Dual timeline, messy celeb gossip, childhood friends to lovers. All great things. And the yearning. Wes is a little soft boy who tries to look tough, and I love him desperately. So much character development in this story. Avery IS the coolest rock star ever, of course. Reading this makes me want to go back and reread the other two just to see how Wes was acting in them.

One of the best books of the year, and the first book of Marja I read. This was also an ARC so I want to thank Marja for allowing me to read this via ARC, I'm so excited to read the rest of her books.

✧| Writing style
I loved it, dual POV, flashbacks, the interview bits (reminded me of Daisy Jones and the Six), it all worked out perfectly. It was easy to read, and to catch on, maybe if I had read the other 2 books first I would've been even more invested and felt the ending a bit more emotional than I did. But it made me want to read the other 2 books of Fool's Gambit and to me that's a win.

The spicy scenes didn't feel too much, or like something was lacking. No matter who was narrating you could see their personalities shining through and you guessed it I loved it.

✧| Plot and tropes
Everything Marja said it had, was there and it was done great. Nothing felt forced, everything worked out and I was invested through it all. I even teared up a bit, which is always welcomed, if a book makes me feel a lot to the point of crying it becomes a favorite to me. I don't like miscommunication whatsoever, but Marja did it in a way that I didn't even mind it, it worked perfectly with the plot and it wasn't focused only on the romance between them.

The second chance romance and friends to lovers was everything to me. They were giving soulmates, and literally everyone knew they were better when they were together. Dare I say they were codependent in the best way possible. It was so clear to me that they were friends who fell in love, because even when they were in love they never stopped being friends and it only made them caring for each other even deeper.

✧| Characters
Wesley Gaflin, was one of the best MMC I have read, he had an amazing development and growth, it was so realistic, and I was truly proud of all the effort that he did. After everything he went through I was so happy when he finally cleared everything up and when he decided to take the step to get better. It wasn't only with Avery that he was trying to make things better, but with his friends/bandmates too and I really liked that it wasn't solely focused on his romantic relationships. He truly grew as a person, and everyone around him benefitted from it. He was so in love I was kicking my feet and grinning like crazy.

Avery Sloane, badass queen with a soft heart. She had no filter, she stood on business and did things her way. She deserves all good things after what she went through as a teen, and Wesley gave her everything she ever dreamed for. I loved that she had people that allowed her to feel safe, and to feel cared for. She is fercely protective of the people she loves, she is this angry girl who is also a lover girl. Even Wes mentions it once, that he almost forgot how soft she can get. I feel she was very consistent throughtout the book but she did do a lot of growth, she did things she was scared of doing, but ultimately it lead her to becoming this better version of herself and allowing her to do exactly what she always wanted to do.

✧| Overall
All the characters felt real, I understood why they made the decisions they made in the past and it shows the difference between them being teens, early twenties to now that they are in their thirties. It never felt rushed or too slow. It was a great book, I love being able to give a book 5 stars and I can't wait to read On the Rocks and Over the Edge.

I've been dying for Wes and Avery's story, but I wasn't ready for this series to end.
I want to go back and scowl at anyone who had a bad word to say about Wes in the previous books, he's just a sweet little teddy bear.

I feel like this was a LOT all over the place and they literally didn’t get together until 80% (slow burn is fine but that’s a little slow for me when there’s also mutual pining), but I didn’t have a bad time!

I dont usually love dual timelines. It’s usually messy, and confusing, and not well done. This author did it so well!

Want to feel all the feelings? This one hits the mark for sure. Anger, sadness, joy, EVERYTHING. I have not read the previous books in the series, but i’m kind of glad I didnt have previous perspective on these two characters.

The themes in this book had the potential to make it such a messy read, but instead it was done so well. I loved the journey these two went on, together, apart, and finding their way back together again.

This book gives so much. Young love, messy heartbreak, second chances, growth, redemption and so much more. Don’t sleep on Wes and Avery!

A emotional, perfect and fulfilling end to a beautiful series. Wes and Avery are messy, courageous, soft and so full of love, for both music and each other. Even if their journey was a rough one. They have a special place in my heart and I'll always be thankful that Maria wrote these characters.

overall rating: ♾️🌟
heartbreak rating: 💔❤️‍🩹
relationship status: fictionally married to Avery because she's so cool!!!!

Avery Sloane, our angry at the world but has a heart of gold rockstar, is getting ready to take a new step in her life, but the one obstacle standing in her way is her 'husband' and childhood best friend/ first love, Wesley Hart... and she can barely think of him without all the heartache and memories that she's tried to bury. But when she asks for a divorce, he'll only agree on one term... go on tour with him.

Wesley Hart, the villain in everyone's story, boyband heartthrob and hopelessly in love with Avery Sloane, isn't ready to say goodbye to Avery as his wife. So what better way to make her stay just a little longer and in the one way he knows best. Through music and a tour together. What could go wrong?

The dual timelines between present and past were placed so perfectly. Torn between the angst of the present and the pain of the past, this story was pieced together beautifully and made you want to rip your hair out. The immediate connection between Avery and Wesley when they meet as kids was so strong. They both care so deeply about their parents and being there for one through the hard times of Wesley’s mother’s cancer, healing through music and forming the band. To the anguish of present where Avery doesn’t want to be around Wesley because of all the heartbreak he brings back and Wesley only wanting to be around her and to see her shine in her full potential. Wesley really takes being Avery Sloane’s number 1 fan seriously.

Throughout the book, we get a glimpse into the interviews from the documentary the work in the book. About what happened between Avery and Wes that caused the break up of the rising band ‘Fool’s Gambit’. What happened behind closed doors and what caused them to break up. If you love style of ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ then you will love this fun element in the book.

Wesley’s character has intrigued me so much throughout the first two books. Between Drew and Garrett, you learn two different sides to how they see Wes and his actions. Drew struggled with the pressure and anxiety from it that he couldn’t move on from and Garrett was hurt after putting everything on hold for the band and because he believed in Wes and what he band could be. Wesley first started about as a sweet and caring boy who grew into his music and shaped himself in the band, becoming a leader and pushing the band to their full potential, hoping to catch Avery’s eye and confess his undying love. To a man who had to keep secrets and learn the horrible reality of what’s being a rockstar can mean… he even did the selfless thing of becoming the villain in everyone’s story to protect them. And he learnt that people he loved would think the worst of him. Seeing Wesley go from this uncaring and arrogant man when he came back into Avery’s life to this dotting and selfless man was so special. You can tell Wesley has always had so much love to give when he can. He even created a bucket list for Avery to complete during the tour before signing those papers. Wes had yearning down to a tee.

Avery, my sweet, scary and talented and angry rockstar. The girl who loved her father so much and had a dream of becoming a star, had been through the wringer. When we meet childhood Ave, she’s hesitant about a fresh start somewhere new because she can never find herself rooted in one place, but that all changes when she meets George - her father’s friend who was a woman and had a son, who immediately had Avery’s heart but she was hesitant to let him in. He was persistent and when she knew Wes needed him the most, she was there. Music as their secret language and sanctuary. She fell in love with Wesley Gafflin but soon had her heart ripped out. Now, she’s ready to take the world by storm. Speaking her truth and shredding away the toxicity of her grandparents who only tear her down. Ready to tour with the man she once knew so well… but when you stay in close proximity… these feelings are bound to come crawling back.

Avery and Wes are the embodiment of soulmates. Their journey was no easy feat. They hadn’t seen each other for nearly 18 years… But Wes never forgot her, he kept tabs on her and waited like the good husband he is. He remembered the teddy bears, the discman, the bucket list and even added extra parts of it. He knew she needed someone to guide her back to finding herself and he was ready to lay in puddles for her to see her succeed. He wore a damn Avery Sloane’s number 1 fan jumper for the paparazzi so Avery wouldn’t get hammered by the media… I mean, that’s some true love right there.

Their romance is messy and chaotic and heart breaking but seeing them find their way back - like it was never lost, the long conversations and heart warming gestures made this book so perfect. The band elements, Wesley’s protectiveness of Avery when people doubted her. He was sure of her and Avery needed that in her life. He loved her for her red hair, angry facade, tattoos, fiery spirit, devotion for her work and her love for music. But mostly he loved Avery because she is his best friend, his equal, his world. And you can feel that love oozing from the pages.

Seeing the glimpses of all the characters from the first two books tied this together so well. Younger Garrett was still a little bit of an ass and bossy but you cold tell he was happy in the band. Drew, our kind and free spirited drummer who wanted to have fun and Jared, our sweet flirt. Those boys had a special bond, like a band of brothers and when Wesley did what he did, they immediately turned in him… for good reason but then seeing them open up in the present about all their struggles and the realities their lives has turned into it, made it feel so authentic. I wish Fool’s Gambit was a real and because I think I would be their number one fan.

Avery and Wes have always loved each other. There was never a doubt. They gravitated towards each other like there was an invisible force bringing them back to one another. Wesley commenting on her sound, her voice, her beauty and her heart. He knew he would win her back and not in a cocky way but as a I will win my girl back type of energy. Avery, trying to close her heart off but it only beats for Wes. His small gestures of love only made it harder for her to deny it. They feel back into their love seamlessly, like it never left and honestly, I felt it never did. Not matter how much Ave tried to deny it or the years that kept them apart. Their love was infinite and one of a kind. They also know how to get hot in the bedroom… let;s just say Wes can be a very good boy when he wants to be.

Last but not least, Avery’s bond with Evelyn and Lydia shows the true power of female friendships. Evelyn, my sweetie who doesn’t filter herself for others and will never shy from protecting the ones she loves and Lydia, for seeing Avery’s full potential and being a shoulder to cry on. Thier bond is genuine and true and those girls are always there for each other. Supporting and loving and accepting. Delivering the cold hard truths and not being sorry about it. It’s refreshing to see in books. Strong female friendships like that.

Avery and Wes have won my heart over so many times. I cried, I cheered, I laughed, I sighed, I felt this in the marrow of my bones. This book has left its mark on me and I will never be over them because they were perfect. Everything I hoped they’d be and more. I love you Fool’s Gambit, and the stories I got to read were worth it.

Thank you to Marja for letting me not only be a ARC reader but also a BETA reader for this book. I will always feel so blessed to have been on this journey and get to witness people love this book it deserves! I love you girl!!!!

A second-chance romance that allows Wes to have his redemption arc??? YES, PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!

Before diving in, prepare yourself by checking the trigger warnings, but if you’re able to read through those, this book is FOR YOU! I loved every word and every page because we watch Avery and Wes fall in love before they unfortunately hurt each other, but we get to watch them put themselves back together with the other’s help. They come back stronger as persons and as a couple. I love that at the end of the day, they choose themselves and choosing themselves somehow leads them back to each other.

This book was an even better read the second time around and I can’t express with enough gumption how I KNOW I will be coming back to read it a third time and a fourth time and a fifth time after that because this is hands down, without a doubt, my favorite book in the series. Marja Graham really ended this one with a bang!

ARC Review

This is a dual timeline/POV, marriage of convenience, friends-to-lovers, slow burn, second chance romance that had me fully hooked. Although this book is part of a series, this is a standalone where reading the other books is not necessary.

The story follows Wesley and Avery, who were childhood best friends and shared a passion for music. As Wesley finds himself rising to fame with his band Fools Gambit, Avery finds herself at a stall due to her grandparents. So one night, when Wesley and Avery are eighteen, Wesley suggests they get married to allow Avery to access her trust. So they elope in Vegas, and Averys life is changed. After their impromptu wedding, they find themselves both rising to fame, and becoming famous singers, and their marriage is kept a seceret and platonic

Fast foward ten years, the relationship between Avery and Wesley is non existent. Avery is now engaged and needs a divorce. So, she finds herself in Wesleys apartment with divorce papers, which is a tough situation since she hasnt spoken to him in nearly a decade. But, Wesley doesn't want to give Avery up that easily, and will do anything to mend their relationship and win her over.

One aspect I absolutely loved about this story was the character development and self-healing for both Avery and Wesley. Both of the characters needed to find themselves, and mend their internal struggles to fully address their friendship. I also loved the the found family aspects, which demonstrates we can pick who we have in our lives to help us become the best versions of ourselves. This is especially true for Avery, who found a family in Wesley and his mother George.

The story is written in dual POVs and timelines, which allows readers to truly connect with the characters. This also strengthened the emotional impact, making the story feel more heartfelt. I absolutely loved the self-healing journey and the raw, honest portrayal of the characters. Overall, I loved this book and will definitely be reading the others!

I honestly didn’t know how much I needed this book to end the Fool’s Gambit series and I never wanted to end. 🥹

Going in, I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about Wes. After the other couples and how much I loved them, I wasn’t sure if there was room in my heart for a redemption arc. But wow… Marja Graham completely flipped that on me. His story gutted me in the best way and gave me that full circle ache I crave in a finale. This is how you do a redemption arc and I am so here for it!

This book is emotional, tender, and beautifully structured. The dual timeline is everything because it weaves their history with their present so seamlessly that I felt like I was living their love story twice. Every flashback peeled back another layer, and with each revelation, their connection became even more powerful.

What I loved most is how human this story felt. Fame, music, heartbreak, and messy choices could have made this a purely dramatic read, but instead, it’s grounded in vulnerability and growth. Wes’s love for Avery is written with so much raw honesty and he’s not perfect, but he’s willing to put in the work, and that made his redemption not just believable, but unforgettable. Avery, on the other hand, shines in her strength. She’s been told she’s too much but in this story, she takes back her narrative and owns it, which was so empowering to read and join her on her journey.

Out of Tune is sweet and emotional, yes, but it’s also healing. It’s about second chances, about love that lingers through time and mistakes, and about finding harmony again even after everything feels broken. The musical backdrop made the whole thing cinematic, like I was watching their documentary unfold on screen. I could genuinely see this being turned into a movie because it is that beautiful and powerful and healing.

This ending made the trilogy so bittersweet! Out of all three books, this one might just be my favorite, and it’s definitely the one that will stay with me the longest.

Thank you to Marja Graham for the eARC of this book.

Marja made it again and this book is so complex, so incredible, so brutal, that I have to digest this review before write it.
Although this book can be read as a standalone in a series of interconnected books, I really recommend reading this series in order to get into their journey.
Avery and Wes are the main characters, and their history is so well written, that it could be a romantic trope itself. The multiple timelines made me equally suffer and swoon. We met then in the previous books but in this one we can see where and when their story begun, when they were kids, Avery was reluctant to let someone in her heart. And Wes was so determined to be part of her life.
I really don’t want to spoil anything in this book because Marja Graham has surpassed herself, the angsty and the love she professes for her characters. This is the longest and most complex of them. And I think is my favourite.
Avery and Wes work so hard for their happiness, to overcome their ghosts and find the way to the other again and again. If you read the previous one , in this book you’re discover the real Wes, a muster character until now.

Tropes you can find in this book:
marriage of convenience
Second chance romance
It’s always been you
Dual 1st person POV
Multiple timelines
No 3rd act break-up
Angsty
Slow burn
Childhood friends to …(rollercoaster travel🎢
Music entertainment industry background (with its shadows)
Grieve and overcome trauma
Mental health
I can go on because this book is complex, beautiful and whole

This book has open door scenes but they’re few and limited. They come in the right moment but, I think this book could be catalogued as slow burn. Regardless , I wouldn’t mind more intimate scenes between them🥰😍

My ratings:
4,75/5⭐️
1/5🌶️

I’ve received this book as an ARC and I’d like to thank Marja Graham for letting me read this book in advance and allow me to give my honest opinion.

"Some days, I think we're inevitable and others... well, sometimes I think I'll go to my grave wanting you."

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

Even when torn apart, Avery Sloan and Wesley Hart's lives have always been intertwined. From childhood friends, to famous rock stars, to husband and wife (if that means Avery can get her inheritance early at 18 years old, and make a real life for her own). Fourteens years and a broken heart later, Wes hits Avery with a compromise. He'll sign the divorce papers, if she goes on one final tour with him.

After reading this, I'm left with the biggest book hangover I'd had in a while, with a hole in my heart that's been patched up and torn apart again and again as I read. This was so wonderfully and masterfully done - Out of Tune truly takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion, following the highs and lows of Avery and Wes's careers and lives, and leaves you feeling everything they did.

Throughout, Avery is so unapologetically herself and I loved every minute of her sharp edges and bright red hair dye. And Wes - I'm convinced no one has ever yearned the way this man has, who has held out hope for over a decade and who's done so much to protect those he loves. The way this weaves between the past and present is so clever and each scene is so carefully and perfectly placed for it's hardest emotional impact. I really felt like I was reading/watching the documentary alongside other fans, and was so eager to see where their story went. Each heartbreak felt like a wound and each moment of happiness was such a well-earned triumph.

I loved this from beginning to end, and will be thinking about Wes and Avery's story for a long time!

A rockstar romance with betrayal, heartbreak and forgiveness…it’s the amazing Out Of Tune.

Avery needs to see her former best friend Wesley, a world famous rockstar, to get his signature. Not for an autograph - for a divorce. They married secretly years ago to protect Avery’s inheritance before things fell apart between them. Now, it’s time to cut the ties so she can marry someone else.

There’s just one problem. Wes has loved Avery for years and has no intention of letting her go. He agrees to sign the divorce on one condition - she joins his former band on their reunion tour.

This dual timeline book starts out a little bit Sweet Home Alabama, but it is far more than that. It’s a complex story of healing long hidden wounds, finding your own family, and having the courage to decide who you are despite the allure of fame. It is a tough, bittersweet read at times, but for me the ending was worth it all.

I think of all the MMCs I’ve read this year, Wesley’s journey will stay with me the longest. His story is about devotion and determination to do the hard work to fix his mess. He’s a green flag guy who got lost and hoisted red flags for a while, before remembering who he is and digging his true colours back out.

I really liked the role reversals in this story. Wes is beloved by the public, but finds himself in an abusive relationship with his manager. Avery is the abrasive star who has agreed to marry a man she does not love to boost her fame.

This is a slow burn, open door romance that does not go out of its way to include spicy scenes. The story contains a lot of potential triggers, including anxiety and panic attacks, alcohol dependency, parental death and illness, and manipulative relationships.

Out Of Tune is the third book in a series, but it reads just fine as a stand alone. I highly recommend it to readers of rockstar romance and contemporary romance.

I can’t believe this is the end of Fool’s Gambit. It doesn’t even feel like that long ago I was reading about Drew and Lacey dancing in the kitchen. Or watching Garrett and Evelyn support his small town. Now I’ve read their story from beginning to end and finally understand all the bits and pieces that led to their eventual breakup.

I have to start by saying I was so wrong about Wes. I knew while reading the other books that I would eventually come to understand him, but before that I was right there with the rest of them, hating Wes. I honestly feel so guilty now because I see why he did what he did, and I understand the way he acted for literal years. At his core Wes has the biggest heart of them all and while he did fumble it up a good amount the time his intentions were good.

I was always very curious about Avery in the past books. She’s there, but didn’t get a whole lot of page time. I am so glad that this book took us back to where it all began in a small town with her. Avery grew up unfamiliar with stability that existed outside of her father, so she turned to the thing that could never leave her, music. Begrudgingly, sharing music then led to a friendship with Wes (who was not going to give up).

These two are not without their individual issues and traumas. A lot happened to them both from young ages that led into an adulthood constantly intruded upon by the media. Luckily Wes is quite persistent and gets Avery to come to an agreement to tour together one last time. On that journey they finally begin to unwind all the pieces of their story that never got explained.

The whole story from beginning to end is truly a rollercoaster of emotions. There was joy and fun, and sadness and heartbreak, times when I laughed and times when I cried. It was also very healing, and watching this group of friends who were once so tight-knit come out the other side whole again was the best feeling.

If I haven’t convinced you yet that this book was amazing and that you should definitely read it then I’ll say this one last thing. If you enjoyed Daisy Jones & The Six (the book or the show), I would say that you’re definitely going to love this! They’re definitely not the same, but give similar vibes. Youngsters playing music, getting their big break, falling to the pressures of fame, trying to make things work and eventually throwing in the towel, working through individual issues, and coming out the other side on a better note.

Thank you so very much to Marja for entrusting an ARC of this book to me. I’ve loved every moment with these characters and can’t wait to revisit them later on. 🫶🏽

"Every cell in my body knows he’d stand by me against anyone in this room. Against anyone, anywhere."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Review

Wanna feel a range of emotions? Like a guy who’s ten toes down for his girl? And love a good dual timeline? If you answered yes to any of those, you’ll want to pick this one up sooner rather than later.

I actually came across this book while scrolling Instagram, looking for early readers. I’m a sucker for all types of romance, and this one hooked me right away. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but the payoff is so worth it. We follow their story over several years — from their teen days to the start of their careers — and it’s such a satisfying journey.

I really enjoyed Marja’s writing style. I read this over the course of a week and didn’t want to put it down. Her character development stands out; each character feels distinct, with their own personalities, flaws, and strengths. Even though this is the last book in the series, it was my first read by her, and now I can’t wait to go back and read the rest.

I can totally see this becoming a fantastic audiobook if done right. The story reads almost like a show — with documentary-style segments, time jumps, and a narrative that all feeds into a bigger picture. It’s emotional, layered, and beautifully written.

Thank you to Marja Graham for this amazing read!

favorite line: ““Wesley Hart belongs to the world. Wes Gaflin? He’s mine.”

song: always you by louis tomlinson

synopsis: Avery Sloane has become America’s pop-rock princess, but at the cost of biting her tongue, going to parties that are more like networking events, and is engaged to guy. Only problem? Her ex-best friend and still current husband, Wesley Hart. They got married years ago to access her trust and chase their dreams of making music. But what happens when she goes to him with divorce papers? Wesley isn’t giving up without a fight. He’s agreed that he’ll only sign the divorce papers if she signs on to do the tour with him. This will determine is they are just out of tune or fully broken.

thoughts: I loved the premise which is exactly what made me want to pick it up even before release date. The premise reminded me a little bit of the movie “Sweet Home Alabama.” I loved the dual timeline, I felt like it perfectly paced the book. I loved Avery. she’s very angry ag the world but really has a heart of gold. And Wes is truly her biggest fan. I also didn’t realize this was the 3rd book in the series when I first saw it so will definitely be going back to read the other two now!

read if you like:

🎶 dual 1st person POV

"Every cell in my body knows he’d stand by me against anyone in this room. Against anyone, anywhere."

I stumbled on this book while doom-scrolling tiktok(as one does), and I jumped at the opportunity to volunteer as an ARC Reader. The blurb alone caught my attention. Former childhood friends to lovers, who married each other so she could access her inheritance. They have a falling out, and eventually she wants to divorce him. He agrees, with the only condition that they have one final tour together. This premise reminded me of Sweet Home Alabama but with music involved.
Wes and Avery's dynamic was one that i love so much and will always have a soft spot for. While neither of them is perfect, they both clearly have a strong love for each other. I love the dual pov. Getting the chance to see things through both of the chapters perspectives really helps form them as characters that felt like real people. I wanted to give a bonus shoutout to Marja, I really enjoyed her writing style and her inclusion of a book playlist. I know some people have strong opinions about playlists, but i love that a book so heavily rooted in music includes music that we can connect to the characters and plot.

Overall, this book was fantastic, and i highly recommend the series. 4/5🌟. I look forward to whatever is next from the author

Thank you to the author for allowing me an Arc copy of, Out of Tune!

I just want to start this off by saying how much I loved this book. Like, I absolutely loved how different this book was from what I currently have on my shelf right now.

From the jump, the prelude of this book had hooked me in the best way possible and I believe that was a very strong and interesting way to start off! It made me instantly feel excited to flip to the next page, which is great for any novel. And I kept flipping after each chapter to learn more and more about who Avery and Wesley are as people, and who they are together.

This is my first time reading one of the author’s works, and I’m hooked into this world. Her unique structure and pacing have become one of my favorites. Wesley and Avery feel so real as they navigate their lives together and apart in an industry that could ruin everything for them. There’s this rawness about the characters that makes them feel so authentic. Their vulnerability and honesty have shaped their careers, decisions, lifestyle, and more, making it an absolute joy to read this story. The story is wrapped up in nostalgia, a past that has shaped their present. Lost time that will never come back, but Wes and Avery give each other a chance to change their futures.

🌶🌶/5

I finished the book, but it finished me too.
I'll do nothing but love them forever

The history behind Wes and Avery made their story so much more enjoyable, What do you mean she only felt like home with him and how listening to music was their tether the whole time??? I'm not over it, and I'll never be over it.

I loved that there was so much growth and healing from both MC's to get to a point where they could be honest. Wes went through so much and it broke my heart that he couldnt be honest with anyone about it for so long, I just wanted to protect my darling boy forever and make sure nothing bad ever happens to him again. But I think Avery has that covered. My heart bled for Avery. She is such a strong and incredible character, and I've known from the start of the series that her story was going to be so special.

Their story together is so real and messy and raw, and Marja just has a way of making me feel like I am standing with these characters and a part of the story, that just takes this book to the next level for me. This book brought the whole series together so well, and the sense of closure that I felt made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Thank you so so so much, Marja, for the opportunity to be part of this journey with an arc 💕

ARC REVIEW!!!

I was lucky enough to receive this arc from @mjgraham.author and I was so excited!!

Wes and Avery’s story is one for the books, a killer second chance romance and we get a dual timeline (I am a sucker for these). We had some bumps in the road but watching them come out on top and rekindle the relationship was so beautiful. Eventually Wes was able to show his emotions and be vulnerable which was a huge moment.

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“He is my husband, and you will not speak to him that way.” Avery’s voice is sharp and cold; an icicle pointed straight at Ivy’s heart. “If you ever even cared to learn anything about me, then you’d know he is the single most important person in my life.”

“You’re choosing him over us?” Ivy wails. “You make that sound like it’s supposed to be a hard choice. Of course I’m choosing him.” She turns to face a camera and speaks directly to it. “And I don’t care who knows it.” “Yeah, this is my wife!” I yell back over my shoulder, and I relish the way the words roll off my tongue.“

ARC REVIEW

Out of Tune follows the story of Wes and Avery, childhood friends turned lovers turned strangers who find their way back to each other once again through their love of music.

What I loved most about this book was the dual timeline and documentary style interviews woven in between. I felt like this story was playing on screen as I read and I really enjoyed seeing how Wes and Avery’s past paralleled with their present.

The character development from start to finish was also incredible healing. Wes and Avery have so much love and respect for one another, even in the dark moments when they are hurt and at odds with one another. And watching Wes struggle through so much trauma just to protect Avery truly just made me love him more. I just wanted to give him a hug the whole way through. But I love that they finally got their HEA, even through they both had to put in the work to get there. This book was beautifully written and the epilogue had me fighting back tears.

3rd and final book of the Fool’s Gambit series
Childhood best friends
Mutual pining
Both MCs are famous musicians/rock stars
Marriage of convenience
Slow burn

Setting: mainly outside of Nashville, TN, plus pieces of the US and Paris, France

Can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series.

Avery Sloane and Wesley Hart are truly end game. The way Wes continues to show up for Avery was so beautiful and heartbreaking from childhood through adulthood. His redemption arc is beautifully crafted in every chapter as we get dual timelines and POV. So hear me out: we are Team Wes. We are rooting for him after maybe despising him.
Loved all the characters from the previous books weaved in here — and getting Avery’s perspective of her friendship with Evelyn.

A quote that spoke to me: “…but don’t let that anger get in the way of your success.”

Thank you Marja for letting me be one of your many fools obsessed with the Fools Gambit series!! Cannot wait to see what your create next for us!

I loved this book so much! It felt refreshingly different from what I’ve been reading lately, while still delivering so many of my favorite elements. The time hops between past and present, the documentary-style storytelling with multiple characters weighing in, and the slow shift from hate/hurt to try again—it all worked perfectly.

And let’s talk about Wes. Our boy was down BAD from the moment he met Avery. The more we peel back his layers and learn his backstory, the more you just want to wrap him in bubble wrap and protect him at all costs. 🥺 the ending was so perfect for them.

“𝑾𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉, 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎.”

5 ⭐️ 2 🌶️

I have been here since On The Rocks and man was it so easy to dismiss and dislike Wes in the first book. Reading the final book in the Fool’s Gambit series feels like the end of an era but you learn so much. I tried so hard not to read it too fast but the plot line just sucks you in. Your mind will be curious as to what happened to break up the band and Wes and Avery. First I loved the way it was written. This way of story telling between past, present, documentary and at the very end a beautiful peek into the future. At no point in this book could I predict what was going to happen next. The more I kept reading the more I kept thinking WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT?! When you step back to put all of their stories together, its genuinely so beautiful. I can’t give too much away but boy oh boy is it a captivating story from beginning to end and it will definitely have you genuinely seeing the real Wes 🥺. And Wes and Avery’s love story was never perfect & always messy but what matters is that their love never wavered through it all.

Out of Tune won me over. The story blends its musical backdrop with character development in a way that feels purposeful and earned. The writing is clean and the structure confident, so scenes flow naturally and the emotions land exactly where they should.

My favorite element is the way the book moves between past and present. Those shifts are clear and well-timed, each one adding context, raising the stakes, and deepening the romance instead of interrupting it.
And Avery being labeled “too much,” and learning she doesn’t need to shrink herself to fit, felt deeply relatable.

Why 3 stars:
Although the writing and structure worked for me, the development moves very slowly; the central relationship and stakes take too long to gain momentum, which dulled the emotional payoff.

Overall, this is a heartfelt, well-structured romance that reads easily yet carries real emotional weight. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves character-driven love stories with a strong sense of craft.

First, Thanks to Marja for the Arc in exchange for my honest opinion, I wasn't ready for this.
I can't believe one of my fav series is over. This book was so emotional that I've spent 20 minutes crying, It was beautiful, an emotional rollercoaster 'cause I've never imagined all the things my babies went through at that time.

Avery and Wes are my favorite end game, 'cause I swear to god, second chances like this one, helps me to heal a part of me that I didn't know it was broken. I want to talk about how this book explains how hard is the life of a musician and all the things they have to handle like scandals, and losing their own privacy. How one picture can break a storm, or how one wrong person in the industry can take your happiness and self-respect away.

They are messy, broken, and full of soft spots that make them incredibly adorable. These characters will steal your heart. This is definitely one of the best books of my year.

This. Book.
I honestly don't know where to start. Getting all the back story for Fools Gambet was amazing. Seeing where they started and everything they went through (no wonder those boys were messed up) it gives so much more to their own stories. We love to see healing journeys 👏🩷
On to Wes and Avery 🫢 I love them both so much. Avery is absolutely savage (in the best way). I loved watching her rediscover her passion and standing up for herself and her man. Wes is a secret sweetheart. The way he fights his way back into her life, UGH! I can't. It was fantastic.
I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with another story from Marja Graham. Her writing is beautiful and so full of lessons and healing. I will always read what she writes. No questions. Highly recommend this book (and the entire series, let's be honest).
