"Lucky" Lucas Wilcox is a warlock who succeeds at everything he tries...except falling in love.
Margot Emory, an "elder" of the McAllister witch clan, was wounded by a terrible betrayal in her past and thinks she's destined to live her life alone.
But when Lucas sets his sights on the one woman he can't have, it may take a bit of sympathetic magic for the couple to come to their own happy ending.
Note: Sympathetic Magic takes place immediately after Darkmoon, and so contains spoilers for that book and the two that precede it (Darkangel and Darknight). Sympathetic Magic is a short novel of approximately 61,000 words, or 230 paperback pages.
A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
I like the writing and the love story, but there was no external conflict plaguing the characters. I’m not really a fan of stories that are just love with no outside action or adventure, so this one wasn’t my cup of tea. I enjoyed the first three books but I won’t be continuing the series after this one.
I Enjoyed reading this book. I thought this story was going to be like her previous story, but I found it very boring. I think her next book is going to be more exciting! Thanks 😀😀
This wasn't my favorite in this series, it wasn't bad but I prefer to escape into the world of younger characters, who are discovering things about themselves and the world around them.
Been on a binge with the Witches of Cleopatra Hill. So far the series is holding up. Good content, good romance and enough conflict to keep it interesting.
This book in the series is similar to the second book, only different characters are romancing and in a different house. There are entertaining moments but this book falls short in holding attention. Even the plot to move onto book 5 is lame and reads as if the series is a finality.
Sometimes sugary romance reading is relaxing, but when reading it in a series, you hope there is more "meat" in the story. For now, I need to but her books away to begin again at a later time.
It took me twice as long to read this book even though there were roughly 200 pages. I should have let it sit and selected a different book to read.
This was a wonderful addition to the Witches of Cleopatra Hill series, and I highly recommend checking this installment out if you were a fan of the first three in the series. This novel follows Lucas Wilcox and Margot Emory (an elder for the McAllister witch clan). The one thing that I appreciated with this novel was that Ms. Pope gave us an insight into periphery characters that fans have come to love so much. I think we can all admit that we have crushes on Lucas. After all, he's hilarious and amazing (perfect combo right there!), what's not to crush on! The pacing in this novel is perfect, and flows similar to the other 3 books. While there is not much action in this one, there are more than enough steamy moments between Margot and Lucas. They are absolutely perfect for each other, and the sexual tension between them had me shouting, GET TOGETHER ALREADY!!! This is a love story through and through, and I loved watching Margot's transformation over the course of the story.
Sympathetic Magic is magically delightful (see what I did there), and extremely well written. This will not disappoint fans of the series, and is definitely worth the read. It's relatively short compared to the others in the series, and while you will fly through the pages, you will never want the story to end! I can't wait to read more from Ms. Pope as she has become one of my favorite authors.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Thoughts:
I loved this "A Witches of Cleopatra Hill" novella! Readers have gotten used to authors putting out prequels basically detailing backstory for prominent characters. Pope provided an actual sequel that follows up on the lives of the devastatingly handsome Lucas Wilcox and the uptight elder, Margot Emory.
Hopefully, you have read the previous three books. If you haven't, stop and pick them up. You need those details in order to appreciate "Sympathetic Magic".
I appreciated how Pope intertwined the story of Angela and Connor in this book. It's just enough detail to let readers know that the babies haven't been born yet. But, thanks to their marriage, other clan members, both Wilcox and McAllister, are exploring their romantic options.
"Sympathetic Magic" is more paranormal romance than the previous books in the series. The other books had a plot that wasn't centered on a love interest. The plot for "Sympathetic Magic" is all about the romance between Lucas and Margot. It's enjoyable, well-written and not as predictable as it could be.
The only thing I disliked about this novella? It ended too soon. I want to be a fly at the nuptials!
“Lucky” Lucas Wilcox has luck in everything except love, but he thinks all that is about to change when Margot Emory, elder of a rival witch clan, dances with him at an unlikely wedding.
If you've read the first three books about The Witches of Cleopatra Hill, you may already have a little crush on Lucas, especially if you've seen the cover art. Margot, however, isn't easily swayed by his handsome face. After a failed engagement years ago, she doesn't think of herself as loveable, but Lucas proves her wrong.
Sympathetic Magic works well as a bit of a coda to the trilogy of books about Angela McAlister, and it stands alone as a romance, though a bit light on the “paranormal” aspect so prevalent in the rest of the Cleopatra Hill books. It is a love story, a light read with passionate and romantic love scenes. If it's your introduction to these characters, you may also fall in love at first sight.
I really enjoyed the book. I loved getting to know Margot and Lucas better also. Lucas falls for Margot as soon as he lays eyes on her in the art gallery one day. Margot wonders what it is about him..that makes her think about being in bed with him..kissing him. She tries to suppress and fight her feelings through out the book. But she ends up agreeing to stay a few days at lucas's house to see so he could prove that she wasn't as needed as elder as she thinks she is. It all goes up hill from there.
This was a good read. As a fan of The Witch's of Cleopatra Hill series, I was looking forward to this book. Although, it is a short read, it has all the fun and romance that is a part of Christine Popes' style. The characters are fleshed out with realistic dialogue that flows.
Yes, this is part of a series but it can be read as a stand alone story.
I recommend this book for fans of romance with a little magic.
I received the book free for review by the author.
Simple, sweet romance. After Angela and Connor brought down the barriers between the McAllisters and the Wilcoxes, more pairings were sure to follow. Lucas and Margot are elders in their respective communities and have not had much luck in the relationship department. That all changes when the two meet at Angela and Connor's wedding. Their initial attraction is complicated by deep seated prejudice and Margot's obligations as a McAllister elder.
Even though I had been disappointed in many aspects of the Witches of Cleopatra Hill trilogy, I really wanted to find out what happened with the peripheral characters of Lucas and Margot. It was romantic, and I found the characters very likable. But it had little to do with magic and was very rushed as far as getting the characters horizontal.
Awesome read. I couldn't put the kindle down. After reading one book I wanted to read them all,,,,,but I still feel there's more to this series if there is I would love to get them.
I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this book! The characters were incredibly complimentary to each other. This is a bonafide breaking out story. Well done !
Ok so the first three books are a connected trilogy, while these last three are like stand alone side stories. while this is not a bad thing, I want more of the pacing of the first trilogy. This book felt like reading a supernatural romance novel. :/
