Hannah Mitchell is happy with life. Sure, she's still finding out exactly what she wants to do, but meanwhile working at the bakery is as good a place as any to figure that out. Her boss is a sweetheart and treats her right, and some of the regular customers have even become friends.
Luke Blake had wanted to be a U.S. Marshal for as long as he can remember, despite, or maybe because of, his parents' disapproval. He'd distanced himself from them, and their wealth, a long time ago. Keeping witnesses safe from those who wanted to kill them gave him a purpose in life, and kept his mind busy. He wasn't lonely, just dedicated, he told himself. But sometimes, he wasn't sure if even he bought that.
Then one morning Hannah walks into work and enters a nightmare. Witnessing the murder of your sweet, gentle boss by the mob can do that to you. At first the police are suspicious of her own involvement, but after she's pulled out under gunfire, Hannah becomes Luke's to watch over.
Can he keep her hidden, keep her safe? Luke knows what happens when you make a case personal, but Hannah might just be worth the risk. But to stop a killer and keep her safe, will Luke put himself in the line of fire instead?
This is book 1 in a series and ends in a cliffhanger.
So Hannah works at bakery and she ends up witnessing her bosses death. After that she has to go into witness protection. Luke is the guy that places people into different places for witness protection. Throughout the book Hannah goes to different witness protection places because carlos the guy that she witnessed shooting her boss keeps finding her. Luke finally puts the pieces together and knows there is a mole where he works. He finds out its his friend and mentor. They go under cover together now that the mob is after both of them since Luke knows who the mole is. Luke and Hannah also end of developing an intimate relationship. They go under protection together and he goes where she goes. Well one day while she is working she convinces Luke to put some distance between them and convinces him to get her some breakfast. The minute he walks out carlos walks in. And now she is unguarded because Luke is away. And it ends just like that. TOTAL CLIFFHANGER ugh!!!

I am new to this Authors work. This book turned out to be a good read but not long enough to greatly enjoy it. So I'm rating this novel at 3.5 instead of 4 or even 3.
I really liked Luke as he was a great male lead. I had a big problem with Hannah, she like a fucking doormat with her parents ordering her around trying to get her married to a rich and spoiled male, even her so called friend was pushy with that. So no, i disliked her for that alone.
This is a new author and series for me. Luke and Hannah, I have absolutely fell in love with that I want to read the other books to see how their story goes. Garrett hooks you in and keeps you hooked through the whole story. At the end, she has left you with a big old cliff hanger!!! So you gotta read the next book to see what happens. Lol! Definitely a recommended read!
Great storyline with action from the first page until The End. Hannah the beautiful, fun and dedicated employee of a bakery witnesses a murder. Luke the Marshal assigned to protector her from retribution from the killer, becomes part of her everyday life. The book is gripping and totally entertaining. It is five star writing but because of it being a cliffhanger and the story isn’t exactly finished, I give the four stars. Thanks for great entertainment with excellent writing.
I am new to this Authors work. This book turned out to be a good read. It kept me on the edge of my seat to the berry end. The only thing that I did not like is that the main character is a naive ninny.
I had no idea what to expect when I started this book. The premise was one I've read before-US Marshal assigned to protect a witness. It's a good premise and one I've enjoyed in the past. While I did like this story, I just didn't love it.
For the most part I liked Hannah. There were a few things she did that had me saying 'really?' but I could also understand her fear and uncertainty given the situation. Luke was also a decent character. I was somewhat confused about the chain of command and how a twenty-six year old was in charge of so many people, however, I was willing to over look that and go with the flow, so to speak.
What made this book just 'okay' for me was because 1) I didn't really feel the chemistry between Hannah and Luke and 2) the story moved too quickly from one element of danger to the next. I would have liked to have seen a little more downtime between action sequences. Every time we started to get see the relationship developing between Luke and Hannah some big event happened that tore them apart. It was a little too much for me.
This book is also the first in a serial series. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this one was enough to make me want to continue reading about Luke and Hannah.
I would recommend this book to readers looking for a fast paced story with lots of action.
Hannah is a normal 24 year old who works at a bistro and has a great relationship with her boss. She has many friends and a close relationship with her mother, but when she witnesses the murder of her boss, her world turns upside down. Together, State Marshall Lucas and Hannah go on an adventure of their lifetime to thwart the killers plan of killing Hannah, and in the mean time, realizing that their feelings for one another are strong and true. Will love conquer? Will they escape the grasp of the killer? Will they ever really be safe?
Honestly, this book was perfect. Just the right amount of suspense, love, erotica, and adrenaline we all need in our every day lives. Though the cover shows much to be desired, the story itself was more than what I thought it was. I give it a full five starts and 2 thumbs up!
Fast paced, action filled Mob/Witness Protection Romance. Contains violence, its edgy and focussed. Easy to follow there's lots of suspense to keep you gripped in the story and reading to the end. Warning this finishes on a cliff hanger that continues in the next book, so if you like a book that is complete and stand alone then this isn't for you. This is a series so you need to be prepared for that, it is good, so it is worth the effort. Being an unwitting witness to a crime Hannah's life changes in hours, all she wants is to go back to normal. In comes Luke, he is supposed to protect her. As the story unfolds there are plenty of twists and turns, you start to wonder if there are any good guys at some points. Its definitely a thrilling ride from start to finish.
I love romance books and I always enjoy a good suspense novel.
I found this one to be predictable. Parts I wanted to go deeper into it didn't and then sometimes with what the characters were thinking or feeling I could it repeating. Often times a new chapter would summarize what just happened in the chapter before which I found annoying because I usually read my books in 2-3 sittings. Not a huge issue I guess.
The best part was the last chapter because it left you wondering what would happen next. But, even it was slightly predictable. I am not sure if I will read the next book.
I read this book because it was recommended to me on Facebook. Although the book is great to read I felt like it was to short and it seemed to jumped from scene to scene with no real flow. However it kept me reading and held me gripped till the end. The detail in the description were fantastic and the author is a brilliant writer and would recommend the book to everyone.
This is an excellent read. Never before have I ever chosen a crime story, as they are not my thing, but this is fast paced and leaves all of us romance buffs holding our breath waiting for the next love scene while trying to urge the characters to solve the dilemma at hand so they can have their " Happily ever After". This is a great rea.
This book really was more than I thought it would be. I loved how Jamie Garrett made it into more than just some romance novel with a lot of sex. You meet these to wonderful characters who go through so much and you see them falling in love and being passionate throughout a traumatic experience. I give this book more than 5 stars
This was an interesting book. I understand stand Hannah and her friend. But when it came to the part were she over heard a conversation with her boss and the hit man and had to be put in witnesses protection. I just don't see why her parents or friends didn't came in And I now that Luke guy was goin to get to close to here. He tried so hard not to but just didn't work.
I enjoyed this book more than I anticipated. This book started off slow for about the first chapter or two, but then I was quickly engaged in the story. I liked the characters, the plot, and the level of action. I was actually okay with the cliffhanger...it didn't leave me mad NEEDING to know what happened, but I definitely plan to continue with the series.
I don't usually like books that have cliffhangers. but this is a great story. Mob, U.S. Marshal's, murder, betrayal, love, and more. The twist and turns leave you hanging on. This is a book that will leave you wanting more
while I understand that authors would like a much money as possible there is no need to end every book that you write with a cliffhanger. because of that's I am giving this one star
This book has everything you could ask for. You are going to be sitting on the edge of your seat through the whole thing. I know I was. Jamie did am amazing job with this. I can't wait to see what is in store for Hannah and Luke.
I actually read all the books in this series back to back... it was like... OMG... "What happens next?" So I kept reading... Stayed up til the the wee early hours of the morning sometimes, because I couldn't seem to put them down. Sheesh!
I love this series, so many twist and turns omg. I can not wait to read the next book. This has gotten so interesting and exciting. I can not put the book down once I start. A must read.
This is a delightful tale, just lacks some jurisdiction. If only local Police worked so smoothly with the federal government! The issue and safety concerns are well described. I am looking forward to a book 2!
The beginning of "Marked By Desire" was a bit slow. About halfway through it really started picking up. What a cliffhanger at the end. Just when you think the story was tied up in a neat little bow and over!
