Josephine remains unaware of the powers that observe her. The fragmented memories and strange premonitions become stronger every day, and the sense of something missing and slightly out of reach keeps her on edge. She cannot dismiss the handsome face, the haunting eyes, or the feelings that are stirring deep inside. It's time to seek answers. Compelled to return to Africa, she is convinced that there is more to the wild animal attack that left her orphaned as a child. Driven to protect the young woman from a shared past that only he remembers, Ashling risks revealing his nature as he follows Josephine across continents. For his entire life, time has had no meaning; with her decision to return to Africa, time is of the essence.
Drawn together by events neither can control, as well a deep connection, Ashling will discover if his stone heart will beat again, or slowly be torn apart.
L. Lombard loves the power of words, possibilities, and imagination. She spends her days helping elementary and middle school students develop a love of literacy. When not teaching, L. Lombard can be found either reading a great book, or writing her own. Surrounded by wonderful friends and beautiful mountains, she lives in Mexico with her husband, two children, and many pets.
I don't usually read romance. All the boy-meets-girl stuff bores me. Same goes for vampires. This book is a vampire romance. In theory, that should have sent me screaming into the night. It didn't. This book is so well written, it will draw you in whether you care for the genre or not. Ebo isn't your run-of-the-mill vampire, and Josephine isn't some kind of swooning sissy. Both are strong, clearly painted characters, whom you can't help rooting for. And don't you dare compare this to Twilight.
What a very different story this is! And as far from the usual formulaic vampire genre as it could possibly be. Ebo is moving, tender, frightening, and thrilling, in equal measure. The love affair between Ashling (Ebo) and Josey is so natural that I didn't question it once. L.Lombard writes with flair and poise and with a timelessness that is a joy. I look forward to reading the rest of the series (soon, hopefully).
I'm not a huge vampire story fan by any means, and romance is simarly hit or miss. With that said, this novel makes me question both those statements. The story was so well done. I was absolutely hooked on the characters from start to finish. I devoured this book as quickly as I could, and loved every page of it. Ms. Lombard has done a terrific job, and I commend her for the work. five huge, shiny stars from me, and I highly recommend Ebo to everyone.
What a beautiful story, and very intriguing! Being from South Africa and having lived in Botswanna/Zambia for a good while, I will say that after reading this, I miss home.
Moving on!
The book is very well written, and filled with action. While it is a romance, it is also a thriller and definitely a mystery. I ADORE Kiki, everyone needs a friend like that.
Miss Lombard managed to spin a tale both creative and believable to that 'what if' point. I smiled, several times as I recognised a few elements of mythology and legend beautifully balanced to create a modern environment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the various perspectives the book was written from, showcasing the character's experience and bringing me as the reader closer to understanding them. The Characters were well developed, though I will admit to feeling a little clueless of their real personality. This is just the greedy me saying: I want more.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and read it in one sitting after I started over. I highly recommend this read to anyone with a love for the unexpected, romance and adventure. Thank you L. Lombard for the brilliant read, and for presenting an alternative to the hum-drum usually found in this genre. You have done an excellent job on bringing something fresh and new. Adri xxx
I have received the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I like paranormal/fantasy but I’m not in general a huge fan of vampires, simply because there are so many vampire books and they mostly describe the creatures the same way. This was an exception however. Ashling had many of the typical vampire traits of course, but he felt oddly human and somehow plausible (plausible vampire, quite a feat to manage that contradiction). I actually didn’t quite like Josephine as much as I liked Ashling, not sure why but I just didn’t connect with her.
The story was interesting. It started a bit slow I think, but it picked up, and even though I didn’t feel the need to rush through the book in one night I was looking forward to when I could continue reading. With the cliffhanger at the end it’s clear this is the first in a series, and it should be interesting to see where the author takes both the characters and the story.
In a few places the story didn’t quite add up for me (waking up from being seriously sick and start moving around like nothing happened, and no one thinks this is even a little odd?) but hey, it’s a book so I guess it’s allowed. It was anyway not destroying my overall impression of the book.
Lola Kyle Reviews::::: Ebo by L.Lombard has proven itself to be a book to be reckoned with. This young adult paranormal is simply riveting. Can you imagine being thrown into a world that you never knew existed? That the man you're destined to love is forever 22 or that he's the reason you've lost everything? Josephine is young child and not yet a woman when she meets EBO, the one man she's destined to love, but forgets exist as she is faced with a series of unfortunate events that will eventually lead her back to him. The way that the author weaves this tale is by far the most unique story I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Though the creatures of our myths are the same. She spins a refreshing tale. Though at time I was a bit confused. One line Ebo says, I am never hot or cold. I am always this temperature, but how is it he can feel the cool wall against his back? Other than that dilemma, L. Lombard writes a clean cut romance, one that everyone can enjoy from young to old. Filled with plot twists and laughter, this book should be added to your TBR. The eyes have it! This author has written a hit!
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, and here it is. Ebo was so much more than I had hoped it would be. I'm not a fan of Twilight, so I wasn't sure how I'd take the whole vampire romance aspect, but it was great. The book kept me engaged (I would've read it faster, but it was my first time reading an ebook and I wasn't used to staring at a screen for that long), and the plot was so different than anything I've read before. I really loved the characters of Josey and Ebo. They were really well-written, and I felt a connection to them. I definitely recommend this book!
I don't hand out 5 stars easily, but this one really deserves it. Great characters. I felt like I knew them personally. This story goes great with the song "Craving You" by Thomas Rhett. Thank you for a clean read for middle school. Looking forward to the sequel and other new gems.
I received the Book, Ebo, free through the We ♥️ YA Books! Group, courtesy of the author L. Lombard, in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first time I have had the pleasure of reviewing a book by L. Lombard. I enjoyed every minute I spent reading this story... And wish I had a follow up that I could immediately dive into.
YA Paranormal Romance is one if my favorite genres. Lombard has brought us, through Ebo, another entertaining world of vampires. While many themes or characteristics were reminiscent of other popular stories (which are quite obvious, but not worth mentioning), I still found myself easily immersed in the plot. Lombard writes very well and I could see myself reading anything she pens.
Ebo has both good and average moments. The first aspect I immediately appreciated was her splitting the POV between the two main characters. This doesn't occur nearly enough in my experiences and it allowed me to become more attached to them both. I especially enjoyed Ashling's, because his is the voice that is often left out in these type of stories. The plot often felt rushed, I'm afraid. There were several points where I wished the story took a step back and explored certain moments further. The beginning for example - I wished there was more time for the reader (& Josey) to have to understand their relationship. It became so intense so quickly. This was explored a bit later on, but I felt cheated from the loss of that development and questioned it regularly. Africa didn't last nearly enough, especially considering how important it was to Josey. I realize the surrounding drama was speeding things up, but call me a romantic, I wish there could have been more down time. When there were relaxed moments, I found them wonderful. While I struggled with how much was going on and how fast it was moving, I still savored each conversation they had with each other.
All in all, I loved Ebo. 4.5 stars. The story was fun and the characters were compelling. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. Lombard has done a fantastic job and I greatly look forward to the continuation of the series.
I've been reading Ebo for quite a while, just a couple of pages every couple of nights, but last night the climax from the last 20% of the book became so enthralling that I couldn't put it down. Now that I've finished the book I feel like I've lost an old friend. Luckily the book ended with enough room for a sequel, so I'm hoping for that. Ebo is the story of Ashling, a monster who comes across a strange little girl. She's very different, in a paranormal sort of way. Will he destroy her, or will he protect her? Set in Africa, Vancouver Canada, and London England, the book follows the life of Josephine as she grows into a young woman, but one who may not survive much beyond that. She needs an Ebo.
'Ebo' is the story of a teenage girl Josephine and the vampire who is deeply connected to her.
I don't always enjoy young adult novels but this was very well written. The story seemed well thought out and the characters believable. There is a good bit of suspense and a bit of action in the book, but the focus is mainly on the romance between Josephine and the vampire. It's a very sweet sort of romance, ideal for younger teenage readers. I found the romantic element a little cloying at times, but I'm not the target audience for the book.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a clean YA paranormal romance to read.
Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Not going to lie, I am kind of picky about Vampire novels. There are so many these days. This one I actually really enjoyed! I felt like there were some unique elements dealing with vampires in addition to some classic vampire content.
Ashling and Josephine are both compelling characters and they really make you root for them. I found the way they interact with each other adorable with a hint of sexy.
The cultural aspect of this book is very interesting. I don't know what is based in reality and what is purely fictional, but I thought it was all very interesting and not something I typically see associated with Vampires, particularly the scenes in Africa.
Overall this was a great read and I am excited to see what comes next.
New author for me and I was grateful to check out the book. Each author does a different take on vampire lore and I enjoyed this book. Really hoping there is another to come with the way it ended it has me wanting to know what is going to happen next. I honestly fell in love with Ebo/Ashling. With everything he went through he's come a long way and finally is able to be honest with his feeling towards Josephine. They are a great couple and I look forward to seeing more of them and they other characters I grew to love.
I'm not usually one for vampire novels but this story has a little something different about it. The first 3 chapters totally grabbed my attention and then I just had to finish it. Lots of suspense and drama married well with a strong romantic element. I really liked the African setting too. Strong female protagonist and well rounded characters make Ebo quite an interesting read. I'm looking forward to the next book.
*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. A huge thank you to L. Lombard and the publisher!*
This was a fun book! It had great characters, a unique plot, and I loved how it was relatively clean read.
Overall, this was a really fun, action-packed book. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of paranormal romances or TV shows such as Being Human.
Ms. Lombard has woven a vampire tale with fresh mythology. The story is captivation and the characters dynamic and endearing. The ending, while not a cliffhanger was definitely written to keep us going and I can't wait. The language and the romance are pretty clean. Great story.
Loved this book, characters grow as the story progresses. Joseph and ebony are great together, but can a vampire love a human? Twists and turns in this book which keeps you guessing what's going to happen. Highly recommend reading..
