Christian Romance What a nice surprise! I hadn't expected much from this story since Christian romance is often second rate writing. But I was quickly drawn in and the characters were admirable and likeable. I like the fact that it's a short story too, since I often stay up too late with a book. No preachiness, but the characters truly try to follow God's will, praying over their decisions and struggles. I wish the plot hadn't worked out quite so easily though, it seemed a little lacking in suspense. I will definitely be checking out this author's other books.
SUNSHINE AFTER THE RAIN I enjoyed this sweet novella that had faith, friendship and family. Rand McCade was still mourning the death of his late wife Mellie, but he made a promise to her on her deathbed to remarry and had placed an ad with an agency for a mail order bride. Lettie Morgan had lost the love of her life and didn't know she was expecting until after his death. With Daniel gone, her mother was trying to force her to marry another man who had proven to be violent. Lettie knows that for her own safety and that of her unborn child, she must leave Baltimore, and chooses to do so as a mail order bride. The story of Rand and Lettie is two people fulfilling a need and with hope, they will fall in love. I loved the dialogue and honesty that they shared with each other. Can Rand and Lettie find love again. I was happy with the ending and found this story to be uplifting. The thing about dark skies and rainy days is that, if you wait long enough, the sun will always shine again.
, I really enjoyed getting to know these two fabulous characters. A man with a faith in God, compassion, and good morals is a gem for sure! A woman with courage, faith, and spirit was just what he needed.
This excerpt called out to me: "The trials of our lives should teach us to live each day with joy and never take a person for granted."
However, I would have like to have seen their relationship grow in a more intimate (not sexual) nature. For them to withhold their declaration of love for one another seemed stifled. The chapters were extremely long, which creates problems for those of us who like to wait until the end of a chapter to pause our reading.
This book stood on its own, was clean and wholesome, and had an HEA.
I loved this book!!! I have been in a place of having to start over again and a second love does come slowly. Filled with expression of Faith, Hope and Love. Widowed, alone, pregnant, and on the run from an abusive suitor Lettie Morgan decides to become a mail order bride to escape her situation. Rand McCade is a young widower who had applied for a mail order bride to keep a death bed promise to his first wife Mellie. They never expect to find love again, only security and comfort, but God had other plans for their lives.
This is a Christian book. The book is all about them trying to move on from there former spouses and find love together. The beginning of the book hints at more adventure than ever really happens. I felt like the author introduces you to a lot of characters that never become important. I was also hoping for more romance after all they are married. I wasn't looking for anything much but the book leaves you only having had a light kiss and hug. Will they have more kids together?
This book was okay. Honestly, my only complaint is that it was too short. The story was definitely set up to include some action, but the author opted for a shorter journey rather than fully exploring the possibilities. In the end, I was left wanting more than the quick wrap up I got.
Two lost souls find love and happiness in an unusual way. They are both dealing with the loss of a partner and decide to make a life based on mutual concern. Through ups and downs they realize that they have found true love again. A well written love story. I recommend this book.
You'll like the characters Rand and Lettie and wish for a Myrtle in yours.
I felt there was something missing from the ending. Sorta like a satisfying dinner at someone's house and then feeling semi-rushed to the door.
Two other minor details where my relating them will not ruin the story for you. Early in the book Rand finds himself wanting to think again about a new wife since he still deeply loved his first wife . However I don't see believe that if he was waiting for a letter from the mail order bride agency that he would totally forget about the second letter from his prospect bride. Had I been Miss Atwood's beta reader, I would have suggested the simple word " almost" to be inserted in the sentence.
In the second instance the word what is used for that "distinctive" smell from a baby's diaper . I've never found that smell to have the adjective "rotten" . But "distinctive " , oh yeah.
Life can be hard. Two people both losing their spouses who have faith in God to provide for them what they need a fresh start to love. Lettie lost her husband. She is trying to get away from her mother and the man she wants Lettie to marry. Contacting a mail order bride agency Lettie finds herself traveling across the country to meet her new husband Rand. Rand is a hard working man looking to fulfill a promise he made to his dying wife. He must remarry. So far he has not had any luck finding a woman who can handle the wilds of the prairie. But a letter from a mail order bride agency might just change that. This book is well written. It is a good Christian romance sure to be enjoyed by those who read it.
This book is a quick read for a cold rainy day. I really enjoyed the characters and the story line. Just when I thought I knew what the next paragraph would reveal, I was presently surprised when it was never as I suspected. I expected terrible Maxwell in this story to wreck havoc in every corner, which kept me reading until the end. And speaking of the end, the book will keep your interest through the last page.
3.5 ⭐️ rounded up. This charming little novella was recommended by a friend, and I can see why she liked it so much. Mail order brides are an interesting topic, and I liked that this particular mail order marriage was a rescue and not something else. There were definitely some edits needed to resolve a couple of anachronisms and some unintentional reveals of coming events, as well as some technical writing glitches. Apart from those, it was a nice little getaway for an evening.
I love the time period that they lived in and enjoy reading about it. What a wonderful story of a mail-order bride and marriage of convenience. I will have to say that there wasn't much conflict or tragedy but was a sweet story to read. Two people taking care each other to overcome lost spouses.
A fast read that spins a tale old as time....in an accurately portrayed historical setting common in the old frontier. Love blossoms in a marriage of mutual convenience and twins just double it.
This was a good story. I would recommend it to those who like clean romance stories. This tells the story of moving on after love is lost. It is nicely written.
A young widow, pregnant and being pushed into a marriage with a brutal man, escapes to the West as a mail order bride to a young widower. As they grow closer to each other, will they be able to realize their love for one another and start a new life?
Such a sweet love story of a mail order bride. This book is very short and an easy read it is void of action or suspense but full of love, faith and family! Enjoy!!
I chose 5 stars because the length of story was just right. The story was well written and there wasn't a regret on any direction of the enjoyable plot.
