I loved this so much I just cannot wait for the next volume. The spark of humor is coming back, there is a lighter tone with Ren, their relationship is progressing-ish...
I have just enjoyed this more than I have in a long time.

This was such a great volume in the series. Nakamura really knows how to string a reader along and then drop a bombshell when least expected. 33 is my favorite in the series by far for what Nakamura packs in those 5 chapters.

Story: The 'perverted Cain siblings' heat up the movie set when they show up holding hands and with an obvious hickey on 'Cain.' But behind the scenes, both Ren and Kyoko are fighting to maintain the careful facades each has cultivated to protect their battered hearts. But in very telling scenes, Kyoko finds that all the locks on the box holding her heart have broken - allowing Ren to enter the ruins left by Sho. Just as she does not want to be the naive girl who gave everything to a worthless Sho, Ren also does not want to return to Kuon and have to face the murder of his friend. Unfortunately for both, the President has noticed that the professional acting relationship between the two has been breached and both may have lost their hearts.

I really loved this particular volume. It's one where a good translation is crucial to understand all the nuances that Nakamura puts into her emotional scenes. The middle chapter is called 'Turning Point' and it really is a turning point in the story - the moment when Kyoko commits to Ren and Ren recognizes that he needs Kyoko.

The denouement to the point where we end a chapter with an open box and discarded padlocks is just brilliant and such a payoff from the events begun in the first chapter. And although there is still a lot of story left to tell (Kyoko still hasn't freed Kuon fully yet), this is definitely one special (and yes, sexy) book in the series.

Looks like the "damaged" Kuon is getting healed through Cain's time with Setsuka (and thus Ren's time with Kyouko). It's so beautiful that that one small kiss on the forehead was enough to break Ren out of his Kuon funk and bring Corn back to the surface - even if only temporarily.

And then to have Ren/Cain and Kuon facing off against one another in the mirror before joining hands? Seems like Ren may be able to finally start to come to grips with his past... whatever that entails (GIVE US MORE DETAILS DAMMIT).

It's also pretty hilarious that Cain seems to have his first groupie... purely as a side effect of his "inner Ren" coming to the surface and being nice to one of the female costars after she reminded him of Kyouko. She's definitely turned into a bit of an early Kyouko with how she seems to care for Cain and just throw off any negatives like they're nothing XD

oh man

okay so at this point in the plot i'm not feeling all that appreciative of ren

but do you wanna know what i am hella excited about?

kyoko getting to learn that love does not have to be something that makes you small

that love should not grind you away, it should help you grow

i say this in the affirmative because if ren does not treat her well i will straight up invent a machine renders fictional characters real specifically to punch him in the face

also the president because screw that guy. :l i did not forget who was the dillweed who deliberately stuck kyoko in a creepy situation with a dude he knew was feeling unstable

kyoko will get hugs and all the princess stuff she likes because she is a treasure and joy forever

The beginning of this manga was jaw dropping in what Kyoko and Ren are up to. Acting as the Heel siblings or not.....!!!!

Kyoko has definitely fallen for Ren and it almost break my heart that she feels she has to hide that from him. And he, on the flip side, wishes she'd react and doesn't get that she has. It is all just too much-in a wonderful way!

The end was a bit of a cause for concern. Not sure what to think of that, except for to immediately read the next volume!

¡Kyoko por fin se da cuenta de sus sentimientos! Intenta bloquearlos... ¿podrá hacerlo? Muy buen tomo, exceptuando la parte de Shou, claro está... qué personaje más odioso.

2019:

Ohhh man, I was so excited to get to this volume on this reread. Kyoko realizing and admitting her feelings to herself is sooooo tragic and lovely and the imagery is wonderful. It's just so sad that all Ren wants is to love and support and elevate her (okay and maybe to lock her away from other men, don't be creepy Ren) while she's so afraid that falling in love with someone else (or letting anyone else, especially Ren, see it) will make her lose all her power and strength. I JUST WANT THEM TO GET TOGETHER AND BE HAPPY, IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?

2016:

Killed by the Death God!!! I love that chapter and I love that chapter title. That said, it's the moment we've all been waiting for (or at least I had, for like forever). Also, holy hell this ended up being an embarrassing volume to read on my break at work. No regrets!!!

5 MILLION SHINING STARS. Best volume yet.

OMG. OMG OMG!!! I'M FANGIRLING SO HARD IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. Why does this manga torture me so much??? AHhhhh!!! The freaking scenes. The KISSSING scenes.

My. Heart. Can't. Take. It. Anymore.

I NEEEEEED THE NEXT VOLUME NOW. I would force myself to learn kanji or romanji or hiragana or whatever if that would mean I can read the next volume already!

This is actually a review for volume 34 but I read online so I messed up on the volume number. T_T

While reading: *flails* *squeals* *fans self* *flails* *flails* *gasps*
After reading: *screams* *shakes book* *sobs*

My favorite series continues to always excite and never disappoint! Except in the fact that it's too short and there is WAY too much time between volumes. I can feel the end coming, but at this rate it'll probably take at least two years. Oh, the torture... T-T

Reread July 2nd, 2025

This volume was hot, cute, lovely, adorable, sexy, fun, and very emotional. Even though I know how everything goes, I really worry about those two.
And also after everything that's happened... How can they go back to normal? I cannot imagine the level of their "I'm just playing my part" delusion.

Kyoko is amazing! How does she keep her outward composure so in sync with the character that she’s playing 😍 And also, Sho sucks- he never deserved her.

*spoiler alert!*

I think these last few volumes, 25 to 33 (haven't read 34), has really dived deep into the waters of Kyoto's feelings and the backstory of the mirage known as Ren Tsugura. I have always been extremely interested in WHO the real Ren Tsugura is. While we have been given glimpses in the past volumes, I am overwhelmingly pleased that we get to discover his feelings; we are slowly chipping this mask that he hides behind, where he keeps Corn/Korun's true persona locked up.

I appreciate the wide pan perspective of this (I constantly refer to him as this in my head) *perfect* enigma and vague stranger, Ren. Finally getting to see him for him after all these volumes has been a REAL treat and was sooo worth the wait. I LOVE that Kyoko is along this journey with us as we see the many different contrasting sides to Ren Tsugura. I am becoming more and more convinced that they were made for each other. She really is his good luck charm.

Furthermore, I really am enjoying the fact that Nakamura has been revisiting Kyoko's twisted view on love and not sweeping it under the carpet now that she has found a true passion for acting and isn't entirely focusing on Sho Fuwa any longer. Kyoko's heart has been entirely bruised and beaten so senselessly that the thought of her falling in love with Ren has really taken her off guard.

One of the things that has captured my attention regarding this series is Nakamura's way of portraying these characters as detailed and three-dimensional human beings. They also struggle and hold onto negative experiences that have shaped them and broken them simultaneously.

By the way, I am convinced that Sho Fuwa is also in love with Kyoko... he just will not let her go. I can't wait to read Vol. 34. Now that Kyoko's been spotted by the Mr. President, who knows WHAT type of reckless, crazy plots he'll come up with to get the two even closer! I can't wait. :D

Progress at last! The Heel siblings are creeping everyone out, but Ren and Kyoko seem to be working things out mentally with their various demons. But that hickey seems to be switching sides…c’mon author, consistency!

The background of Kuon is…weird. He is from a wealthy, famous family and presumably well socialized with friends of his parents (it notes that he is very mature for his age because of that…I wonder if there was a mistranslation here, because he also told Yashiro his parents look older than their ages?!). I thought he was in the acting world, where again, he’d be surrounded by colleagues of his parents. Yet he’s hanging out with a bunch of guys that are more like gang members, who are super violent and racist...it doesn’t really make sense.

Is the scene still intense? Yes. Blushworthy? Yes yes. Also true tho?  It's hella creepy that "siblings" play "mark me". And! another long Tsuruga Ren is long moment. Couldn't make my brain see this scene as romantic as maybe I did years ago. Some weird ass acting exercise / role play therapy, sure yea. But akward as fuck to watch it happen. Kyoko is processing the consequences of that scene - late to set, speculation, uncertainty.
