In a world that doesn’t forgive, Rem Lumes has found a way to survive. A self-taught thief and swordsman bound by an honor code, Rem is a mercenary up for grabs to the highest bidder. His specialty is returning stolen items to their original owners. One bad job lands Rem on the wrong side of the Legion, a clan of sorcerers, and the only way to repay the debt is to return Luca, a Legion runaway.
Rem would do almost anything to not be in the Legion’s debt. Even take Luca back, someone too entangled in the Legion’s web to know better. When Luca’s power starts to unravel and his life becomes endangered, Rem promises to do anything to protect him. Anything except betraying the Legion. But what will Rem do when he realizes the Legion may be what’s endangering Luca’s life the most?
Myka (Me-kah) has been creating stories from a young age. From turning purple and orange plush dragons into characters, to an endless collection of notebooks and word files. Myka's favorite type of story is the one that tears at your heart, even more if it includes things that go bump in the night. Her love of fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and LGBT characters fill her stories.
Okay, so there was no sex, but when both MC's were under 18, I am totally okay with that. Which isn't to say I wouldn't like for visit them in a few years, of course.
I loved the world building here. I am a sucker for good world building, and the world created here was detailed (but not detailed enough to distract me from the story) and vibrant. It was definitely deeper than the stock-fantasy world I was expecting in a story this length.
There were a few loose ends, but I have a theory about those, and I've messaged the author to ask! :)
A great story, and I hope there's more to come in this world, and with these characters.
Ooh...and that ending...with the knife...if you've read it you'll know the part I mean...ouch! And creepy!
I liked this story..the world, the magic, the characters. There was a lot of potential for an incredible story, but it felt uneven. Parts of the story were really good but as a whole, it was an inconsistent read, with pacing issues, plot holes and unanswered questions.
It feels like more might be coming? If so, I'd definitely read it.
...more of a YA/NA adventure than a romance, but it kept my interest and I enjoyed it :)
First, this isn't a standalone. While the story here is complete, there are lots of dangling threads and the author does intend to make this a series. The next story is listed on the author's profile on GR, but it's unknown when or if it will be published.
I really enjoyed this one. The world building could've been better. We know the Blood Legion is a group of sorcerers and mages, and for some reason bleeding increases their power. They seem to have bad reputations everywhere they go but we're not told why. How did they get that reputation? Has it never been challenged? Why has the Legion itself never been challenged or run out? Are they really the only people who ever wear that particular shade of red? I wanted a little more examination into this world but it wasn't there.
There were also a couple of plot holes.
I did like the characters and how they got along with each other and became friends despite their initial introductions to each other. Niel is perhaps the most flawed and has the most interesting story, which is odd as he's a side character. Luca is a little too sweet given his situation, though his instant infatuation with Rem is understandable once explained. Rem is a vagrant trying to make up for his earlier life of thievery and he's got a mystery in his past that could make for an interesting future story. I like that he doesn't actually fall in love with Luca here, but there is the beginning of love between them.
Good story, and I'm intrigued enough to see where else this author plans to take these characters. Unfortunately, the expected publication date isn't for another whole year. I hope I can still remember this story by that time.
Switching POV's got me confused. MC's talking (never mind a third person is endangered), instead of fleeing, was extremely frustrating. 3.5 stars.
However, this is a short story for a free event and other than those two instances I really enjoyed the adventure. The world building is pretty good for a short, the characters endearing. The end result is 4 stars.
39.749 words, 4.5- stars A world where mages are feared by the average people and vampires, werewolves and demonlike creatures roam the woods. Three young men, their lives forever changed over the course of five days.
Rem is a legendary thief. There are all types of rumors about this famous thief. But he had decided to change his life around. He may not have much, but he does have honor. Honor of his word. Well, his word of honor, got him into a load of trouble. One thing leads to another, and the next thing he knows he is off with another, to bring back a special blood sorcerer, Luca. He thought, he had a long day… then he meets Luca. Not a little kid, but someone his age, someone that will change his life around forever.
Luca, along with Rem and Niel(the third person of their trio) start their journey back to their home, returning Luca. There is a special ceremony that Luca and Niel’s clan need him for. Luca has premonitions. There will be three incidents that their lives will be risk. Also, as their journey back, Rem’s feelings start to change and become closer mirror the same feelings that Luca have for him.
This is a decent story. I definitely would love to see more. There is so much more we can see. Will Rem find out more about his parents and why they left him in the first place? Will they be found? How about Niel?
Such great world building! That is what stands out the most with this short. I liked the characters but didn’t feel any particular connection with them. Rem seemed like a clumsy thief to me; I just couldn’t reconcile my impressions of him to my expectations. I thought the introduction of the vampire was a little random. There were plot holes and a couple of loose ends but all in all an interesting read with just the right amount of drama.
Somehow, this book didn't do much for me. The premise was interesting, but the story itself was kinda predictable. And the final solution was a little too easy for me. So, this was an okay book. No more, no less.
This was a really nice read! i thoughtfully enjoyed it, the fact that it doesn't go pass kisses doesn't really remove from the story! i look forward to the follow up and to see what comes next for this couple, because i got the sense that they will have another book!

Interesting world building with lot of things happening. I enjoyed reading it but the writing didn't touch me as much as I wanted. the story remained distant.
