The great cataclysm wiped almost all life from the face of planet Earth, but tiny pockets of survivors crawled from the ashes, with only one thought: survival, at any cost.
But not all survivors were human.
In the new world order being a Vampire is a crime punishable by eternal servitude in the arena as a Gladiator of the Iron Gate. Mira, a newly turned vampire, must prove she has what it takes to survive in the human's world. It's kill or be killed. Immortality is not guaranteed.

Super intense and very quick pre-quil. I'm glad to have read this before I start book one. If this is any indication of how book 1 is going to be, and I hope it is, it should be very good.
A blast from the past! Initiation, a prequel or companion novella to the Chronicles of the Uprising, gives us some of the background for these characters. It's like getting to take a little trip in a time machine to learn what makes our beloved characters the way they are. I always enjoy getting to revisit my favorite stories, & hopefully you do too. This prequel gives plenty of insight into the past without ruining the story for anyone who happens to snatch them up out of order. So enjoy & if you haven't yet begun this series be sure to grab Dissension, Complication, Revolution, Transition, & Retribution too. ;)
A vampire girl in a post-Apocalyptic world where her kind have been forced to fight for human amusement - an interesting premise and one that's set up very well here.
This prequel is about Mira's first fight, which means pretty much all action. It's not bad by any means, but there was something off about her YA-style naive "I will survive!" statements paired with her cynicism and the overall gloomy tone.
It's written well enough to make me consider reading more to find out about this dystopian science-fantasy future though, so as a prequel it does it's job.

A really good prequel that gives us the beginning of it all. Dark, gritty, and savage but to survive Mira will do whatever it takes. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.

This is just a really quick look at Mira's time in captivity when she first arrived. I like Mira, so I enjoyed getting another glimpse into her life, and this just shows more of how awful those who are holding her captive are. Good read for any fan of the series.
This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read Dissension!
Mira used to be human... But nothing like the ones who had captured her and left her a friendless widowed vampire! Theo was dead and so were all her friends. Murdered by the same humans who now called her slave and tortured her endlessly. Will she survive her fight to the death in the Arena? Will she find an owner? How will she escape?
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy post postapocalyptal dystopian supernatural fantasy horror with plenty of action :)
I would recommend reading these books in order this is the first book. The next one is Dissension. Initiation is about vampires becoming slaves to humans. They fight them against each other to the death. This is the background story of Mira the main character of the Chronicles of the Uprising series. It was great to read this first so I knew a little bit about Mira before the main story. This book gives plenty of background without ruining the story for anyone who happens to read them out of order. But to me it made the story better reading this first. Can't Wait to read the rest of the series. Great Job K.A. Salidas.
I picked this up off of Amazon and I didn't realize it was a novella. I didn't realize it was the story before you get thrown into the world. Usually I hate those types of books because there is so much information and throwbacks to the other books in the series. This book just wasn't that way and when I came to the end I was pleasantly surprised to find that I eagerly wanted to get my hands on the rest of the books in the series. The characters were interesting. The gladiator style definitely piqued my interest.
Initiation is about vampires becoming slaves to humans. The humans keep the vampires locked up in a dungeon like place. If the vampires don't do what they are told or don't follow the rules then they are punished in a horrible way. Each human that owns a vampire fight them against other vampires. They are trained to fight to the death. Poor Mira hates being a slave and being locked up all the time. She is a very head strong woman and will never stop trying to get away.
K.A. Salidas' "Initiation" is the *free* prequel to the Chronicles of the Uprising series. I love the mythology created. There are plot elements I've never seen with any paranormals I've ever read. Very innovative. The writing just flows and you can't put it down. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I received this book free from the author for an honest review. I really enjoyed this preview into the Chronicles of the Uprising world. You get to see how Mira came to be where she is and what she went through to get there. I really enjoyed getting to see her journey. I can’t wait to read more of this series.
