No me cautivó.

Very cute. Did the perfect job of making me want to re-read The Lonely Hearts Club and get my hands on We Can Work It Out!

If you're not a fan of the books already, this might be the way to get into Eulberg's writing and her girl-power world. =)

How ironic that when Penny was dressing up as a feminist icon for Halloween she was thinking how much cooler she and her club were for not dating boys than the girls who did.

''(...) Are they really dressing up in a bra and hot pants for themselves? Of course not! It was always for a guy. Or to get attention from a guy.
We were so above that.''

THAT'S NOT WHAT FEMINISM IS ABOUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

That was so funny! I loved all the Beatles references and the parents were hilarious. Also, their doorbell plays “Love Me Do”! And they carved an Abbey Road pumpkin! Impressive. (Can you tell I laughed my head off while reading this?)

I can’t wait to read the Christmas themed novella next!

THIS WAS AWESOME!

Even for a few pages it was great to go back and see the LHC in action, and Penny's parents are still the funniest people ever (the Abbey Road pumpkin xDDD).

Plus,

I NEED WE CAN WORK IT OUT NOW!

Kind of neutral about this book. There wasn't enough of the story to really grab my attention, but it wasn't bad either. The ending scene where they scared those guys was funny. ;) I also liked the reference to The Hunger Games -- always fun to have book's mention other books you've read.

I don't know if it is just because I am not a big fan of short stories but this one fell flat for me. The cover is deceiving. No real romantic interaction at all.

Brace yourselves because I am about to talk some shit.

This short story was hideous, from start to finish. I can't believe how hypocritical Penny Lane Bloom can be; this girl is trying to give us a goddamn lecture on feminism for a paragraph and just goes straight to SLUT SHAMING girls in the next one.
"[...]another thing that drove me crazy about Halloween was how some girls used it to dress up in as little clothing as possible. Sexy Nurse, Sexy Teacher, Sexy Nun - notice a theme? Are they really dressing up in a bra and hot pants for themselves? Of course not! It was always for a guy. Or to get attention from a guy.
We were so above that."

EXCUSE THE FUCK OUT OF ME.
YOU HAVE TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!
This girl that just talked about how the members of that stupid ass club were dressing as, quote, "fabulous females". How can she even be an idol to girls in her high school when all she does is criticize teens that like to dress in form fitting clothing or wear stilettos. She has this type of hypocritical and disgusting thoughts all the darn time.
I have dressed as a Sexy Devil and have an IQ of 140, my best friends have dressed as Sexy Bunnies and are some of the funniest bitches in town. It was all for a Halloween party and we were feeling ourselves that night. We looked hot as fuck because we wanted good pictures, good memories and to receive compliments from the other girls at the party who were dressed as Sexy Fucking Anything because they wanted to. And to read a book that wants to send such a girl power message and talks like this about other women, just frustrates me and makes me sick.

"[...]with their respective girlfriends, Pam and Audrey. The word 'respective' was only to reference to which girl dated which guy, since, by their outfits, there was absolutely no respect going on. Pam was dressed as [continues to shit on the girls' outfits because for some fucking reason a young woman cannot expose skin in front of a man because it automatically makes her a whore and that is a bad, bad thing]. And it's the end of October. In Illinois.
Stay classy, ladies."

HOW CAN SOMEONE HAVE NOT NOTICED WHAT A BITCH PENNY IS AND GIVE THIS SHORT STORY MORE THAN ONE STAR?
YOUNG GIRLS READ THIS BULLSHIT.
YOUNG GIRLS PROBABLY THOUGHT PENNY WAS A FEMINIST ICON.
Well she is judging who goes to Hell and who gets to enter Heaven with her respect-deserving minions, because if a woman shows her midriff she is off to Satan. That hooker got no respect for herself or for Judge Penny Lane Bloom, who is terrified of freedom of fashion for all I can tell.
Go fuck yourself, Penny, the worth of a woman isn't lowered based on what she wears.

Author Elizabeth Eulberg is best known for her romantic young adult contemporary realistic fiction The Lonely Hearts Club published almost five years ago which was full of music, fun and humor. It was the story of Penny Lane Bloom who caught the only guy she ever loved with another girl, and it changed her life, for better or for worse. All guys are unreliable! Yes, that’s right, except the Fab Four - The Beatles. And inspired by one of their songs "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club," she started a club called "The Lonely Hearts" exclusively for girls who have sworn not to date high school boys anymore.

A Hard Day's Night is the first book in The Lonely Hearts Club #1.1 series and takes place before the twenty-seventh chapter of The Lonely Hearts Club, and revolves around Halloween, which incidentally is not one of Penny Lane’s great loves. At the point of time when this short story takes place, members of the club aren’t allowed to date. When Halloween comes around in the month of October Penny Lane is quite excited. But her spirit is dampened when someone plays spoilsport for one member of the club. How the club members rally around that member is what A Hard Day’s Night is all about. If you have loved Elizabeth’s other books, you’ll certainly enjoy this quick read.

This is a very short Halloween story…it’s not actually 29 pages as noted in the book description, rather less than 20; the last part of the book is Chapter 1 of another book in the series.

Girls from The Lonely Hearts Club spend their Halloween paying back boys who have wronged them that night.

This short story was literally just one chapter it seems.

But the really mini Halloween night story was cute, and I loved how the girlies stuck together with each other! I think it’s so good to represent and yea h young girls that there’s more to life than boys. So I love that!

AMO.

If you're a fan of Elizabeth Eulberg's Lonely Hearts Club series, check out her series of novellas that capture different holidays in the series. They are not necessary to enjoy The Lonely Hearts Club, but they are like fun extended scenes.

Of the three, A Hard Day's Night is not my favorite. It's the Halloween-centric one, which is my least favorite holiday, but it also has great moments between the girls of the Lonely Hearts Club.

2.5/5 ⭐.

"While we had official rules for The Lonely Hearts Club, there was one that didn't need to be written down. It was understood.
You mess with one us, you mess with all of us."

"We're all dressing up as strong, awesome women. Although is there any other kind of woman?"

I went into reading Elizabeth Eulberg's trio of novellas without having read The Lonely Hearts Club or We Can Work It Out. I was intrigued by their love of all things Beatles. I enjoyed these novellas and would like to read the main books as well.

This was a fun look into Penny's Halloween. Her family is cosplaying The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band for Halloween this year, even though there are only 3 of them to do so. Much as Penny loves this tradition, she cannot wait to get out to spend Halloween with the LHC. She's going as Rosie the Riveter.

When an LHC member gets sprayed with shaving cream by some bratty youngsters, they take into their own hands to get revenge - and, do it in a fun way.

A Hard Day's Night is a short story by Elizabeth Eulberg, part of The Lonely Hearts Club series. It was a quick, cute story about payback after a Halloween prank is pulled on one of the club's members. I wasn't wowed by it. The length is quite short, You don't really get to know the main characters any better. For me it was a fun read, but not especially deep or moving. It was just okay. This story is available for free where ever e-books are sold. There's also a link at the author's website to read it online.

I was introduced to Elizabeth Eulberg with Prom and Prejudice, and then her book, The Lonely Heart's Club. I enjoyed both immensely and was thrilled to hear recently that The Lonely Heart's Club is getting a sequel. Even more exciting was finding out about several short stories recently released with our girls from The Lonely Heart's Club.

This was a fun short story about Halloween and the girls dressing up. Penny's family is very big into the Beatles and dress up as the Beatles every year, which sounds very cool.

This story likely could be read without reading The Lonely Heart's Club, but I do recommend reading The Lonely Heart's Club first. It's a enjoyable YA contemporary that embraces girl power, and I can't wait to read the other short stories.

My Thoughts: What a cute little novella.

We are back with Penny and her group of friends from The Lonely Hearts Club. This is just a short little novella. Its about what happens to the gang on Halloween. Just a little scene on what goes on and what they dress up as and how they scare each other.

I really love Penny and her friends. I can’t wait to read the other novellas and get to the actual second book in the series.

Overall: This was about 35 pages long so it was very short. I liked this little glimpse into Halloween though. Probably more of a 3.5 cupcake rating.

Cover: Its cute. Love the Pumpkin pail.

What I’d Give It: 3/5 Cupcakes
