Penny Lane Bloom founded The Lonely Hearts Club, which means that she basically doesn’t date. She’s got her awesome girls to hang out with, she’s got her hilarious (and sometimes annoying) family, she’s working towards high grades to get into a great college–she’d never give up any of that to be with a boy.

But all of a sudden, the rules of the Club have changed and Penny’s not only allowed to date–she’s going out with Ryan Bauer, longtime friend, all-around amazing guy, and her best friend Diane’s ex-boyfriend. It’s not like Penny hasn’t been on plenty of first dates before, and it’s not like she hasn’t seen Ryan practically every day for years… so could someone please let the butterflies in her stomach know it’s okay to calm down?

I have reviewed every single book in this series, from the main novels to this shitty novellas, so just as in my other diatribes, I am going to say bad words and let my anger be the one that writes this paragraphs.
You have been warned.

Let's begin by recalling what a horrible bitch the protagonist is.
She just drives me fucking insane with all her double standards.
I feel like Elizabeth Eulberg tried too hard to make this a feminist, progressive and empowering character but failed terribly at it. Penny is constantly, CONSTANTLY, shitting on girls that are feminine, want a boyfriend and diet, and then dares to say the following in this short story, to make me believe this is a GRL PWR type of series.

"I hated stereotypes, especially ones about girls. That we were giddy, boy-obsessed creatures who wore pink, who couldn't play sports, and cared more about doing our nails than doing math equations.
The Lonely Hearts Club had proven all of the above false. We were strong, smart, independent young women. We played sports, we dominated our classes, and we wore whatever colors we wanted (okay, Diane really, really liked pink)".

WELL NO SHIT, SHERLOCK!
THIS BOOKS ARE FILLED WITH GODDAMN STEREOTYPES.
Just take a look at the first book; the evil, beautiful and dumb girls wear stilettos, form fitting tees, short skirts, eat salads and are cheerleaders. They are all shallow, boy-driven whores that don't hang out with anyone outside their bubble. Meanwhile, the good and smart girls like Penny eat whatever they want, wear Converse All Stars and would never fucking dare to buy clothing that exposed their figure or showcase a bubbly personality because that is a clear sign of a lack of neurons.
If I didn't know Penny from previous books, I would have totally loved that little ramble on girls proving everybody wrong, because it is true. Women can do absolutely fucking anything. We can shift from a party girl that loves attention to a brainiac overnight, if that is what we want. We aren't just a bunch of stupid bodies walking around to please males and we can play sports, dominate our classes and be whoever we want to be.
But don't try to sell me this after you slut shamed, judged and reinforced the I am not like most girls stereotype, because that makes you a hypocritical bitch.
I just wish the song Most Girls by Hailee Steinfeld had been around during the time Elizabeth Eulberg punished her computer writing this story.

Funny enough, this isn't the worst story of the series, because it mainly talks about Ryan and Penny's date, which makes Penny talk about him instead of other young women and lets me take a break from all the shit I put up with in the other books.

This novella picks up right after the end of The Lonely Hearts Club.

It's all about Penny and Ryan's first official date. They are so cute, they gave a serious case of The Feels. Makes me want to have the new Lonely Hearts book right now.

Excellent short story!

It's really cute but somewhat cheesy. Don't get me wrong, cheesy romance is adorable sometimes, but I kinda go Colleen Hoover vibes at some points, and not in a good way.

Set just before the Christmas holidays. I like that even though Penny falls back into bad habits, she's aware enough to dedicate herself to changing for the better.

Two of Us is another short story by author Elizabeth Eulberg, also part of The Lonely Hearts Club series. The story starts off warning the reader that it's a total spoiler if you haven't read The Lonely Hearts Club, and I completely agree. With that in mind, I'll put the rest of this review under a spoiler tag :)

This novella is available for free where ever e-books are sold. There is also a link on the author's website where you can read the story online. This was a quick, adorable read, but I would only recommend it to those who have read book one.

Chan chan chan.

"What truly helped a broken heart was finding the right person to mend it."

So sweet! This is the second novella for the LONELY HEARTS CLUB and it's time for Penny to go on a date with Ryan. Filled with all those nervous flutters and swoony moments. Perfect preparation for the sequel: WE CAN WORK IT OUT, which comes out on January 27th.
I highly recommend this and ALL Elizabeth Eulberg's books! If you like YA contemporary novels, you will love her novels and novellas. :D

Short story

This is one of three short stories that the author wrote to help spam the gap between books in her series. This one happens second time wise. It would be best if you have read the book and other short story already but if you don't mind spoilers you can read it as a standalone. It is geared for a younger female audience but it isn't bad even if you don't fall into that group.

Y el segundo capítulo de "We Can't Work It Out" fue muy intenso!!! Qué deparará este nuevo compañerito??

Now this is what I was expecting, kinda. I thought the continuation to The Lonely Hearts Club would take place years after but it isn't. It's like going back in time and finding out what happened after the book ended. Anyway, I really liked this short story. Penny and Ryan go on their second date and it was SO ADORABLE!
