“Songs of the Deliverer” is a re-imagining of the stories of the Bible written for all readers, including teens. The supplement at the end includes 40 reflections to reinforce the Gospel stories featured in the book. The novel and the reflections provide a perfect way for young people to learn about Christ and the faith to which we are called.
I loved this book. It is a fairy tale retelling of the story of Jesus. The author uses Biblical scriptures, but we have to remember that it is both fairy tale and Biblical so there will be things that some readers might not like. The author tells the story as it is modern day. I was not liking the book as it started because, (this might be a spoiler alert, but I feel the reader needs to know) the baby Jesus is killed. I recommend that reader keeps reading. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Reading Deal and these opinions are my own.
This book is a even combination of both scripture from the bible, and the authors own story that resembles the actual stories from the bible. He tries to put a unique spin on the stories we all remember learning.
I believe the concept of this book was better than the actual book. The idea of a book where Jesus is here today is fun, and easy to relate to. Unfortunately, even with knowing what the authors intention was with this book beforehand, I still had difficulty knowing what was gone. I already know the stories from the bible, but still had difficulty knowing what was going on in Elvo's versions.
The stories need to be told in a way everyone can understand the reference, and be able to apply it to the readers own life.
Although I only rate this book at 2/5, I did not dislike it. It has much potential.
The New Testament of the Bible in a story of our times. I have read the Bible. In reading this story I see it in “our language” and gain a new view if it. Thank you for a discussion of the Bible which aligns with my day-to-day life. Thank you for the discussion of each chapter relating the story told here to the story told in the New Testament, it is truly is timeless story ... “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
A rather interesting look at the gospels. I found some of it points quiet unscriptural so wouldnt really reccomend it. I beleive anything having to do with God can not be mixed with any lies because then it all becomes a lie. Just read the Gospels themselves. theyre not that hard to understand!
This book gives hope and love. It is an excellent retelling of our Lord and Savior. The one part I hated was the unnecessary and cruel death of Blue, a faithful and loyal dog. There was no meaning in it though Emmanuel said he was with Him. I really don't like books where pets die.
Delightful book almost as through the eyes of a chid
I especially liked the lessons at the end. I have been a follower for almost 50 years, and I have never regretted it. I have had a few 'dark nights of the soul' but in my deepest pit as I cried out to my Savior, heard Him say 'take My hand and i will help you! Your book shows that! Thank you!
Books like this are so informational for children and hold such a wealth of knowledge. I really enjoy reading books, like this one and many others to my children, for if you start them young then they will grow to have a love for reading and adventure!
I was not sure why I got this book however after I started reading this unique way of looking at our Saviour it became very difficult to leave. It's a little different look at what might have happened if........you have to find out for yourself! E
I’d recommend only those familiar with the truth of the gospels read this series of books. Understand the Truth before reading the fiction. The author does end with a comparison of his story to the Bible which may be helpful.
Not my cup of tea AT ALL. I read t he whole book only because I wanted to know just how bad they could make it. It was really awful! Don't bother reading this one.
What an amazing story! What if Christ was walking among us in the modern times? Songs of The Deliverer: A Modern Day Story of Christ by Elvo Fortunato Bucci is a story that does just that. It takes the events in the gospels and sets them into a modern day setting. It is easy to understand and has the same attributes as those in the Bible.
Emmanuel does a lot of miracles as in the Bible: the lame, walk; the sick, well; etc. Some of the most memorable to me is when he walks on water, brings the dead back to life, and is baptized. (I cant state them all since I do not want to spoil it.) However in this modern day setting he is still a mystery (in a way) as many answers is not answered directly (some but not all) and because of this, it is hard to grasp what the answer really is. Better way of explaining it is by the way he answers, it is in your interpretation of what he is saying. An example of this is when Jonny asks Emmanuel if he is the who Jona refers to as the Deliverer. Emmanuel replies by saying, "Jona brings joy and hope to the world. And his witness is true. But my witness is not about me, but about the one who has sent me. I do only what the Father commands. I testify to him alone." This answer left me perplexed if he was or wasn't. With that being said, this is also true in the Bible so I thought the author did a fantastic job of carrying over that mystery and way of his speech into this modern day setting.
Toward the end of the book are sections; About The Book, About The Songs, and About the Author which were really enjoyable. It is the last section, 40 Bible Reflections which I thought they were a great bonus. It explains the part and where it was referenced in the book.
I didn't notice any typos/errors anywhere throughout this book and I recommend it to everyone who is interested in the Bible. Even if you never read the Bible before, you will enjoy and understand what is going on but for those who did read it before, this is a fantastic read!
If you take the story of Jesus’ life from the Bible and give it a modern update, you end up with Songs of the Deliverer. I enjoyed the contemporary spin on the greatest story ever told. I think others will enjoy it as well, even those unfamiliar with the original. It was amazing how this author could re-tell this story in a unique way, but still leave it true to the source. It was a challenge for me to identify each of the characters, knowing the part they played during Jesus’ time, but with different names. I loved the songs that were included in the story. They were very passionate, and I could tell how much the author enjoys music. Of course the Bible reflections helped to clarify how the story coincided with the word of the Bible. This was a refresher for me, and even though I knew how the story would end, I found myself hoping for a different ending. I would enjoy seeing more of this type of writing from this author.
"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast." I found most of the stories were quite adaptable to modern times. However I must stick with the Biblical writings as I learned growing up. This would be a good introduction for someone not having a reference to draw from.
