When you are lying on your deathbed, how will you know you truly won? How will you know if your time was well spent?
The author had incredible success. He had a job, collaborations with legends like Kobe Bryant at Nike, and a career pointing straight up. But when his father suddenly died, he realized something: there is a risk of arriving at the end of life and having won at things that weren't the most important.
In this book, written by a former Nike marketing executive, the author helps you:
◾ Uncover your personal definition of success;
◾ Identify the wins that deserve your time, energy, and attention.
◾ Pursue a meaningful story for your life.
◾ Build a plan to succeed in the places that matter most.
◾ Deal with pitfalls that can derail what matters.
What I loved about John's story is his honesty in recognizing that work is not the only thing that matters. Spending quality time with your loved ones is unbelievably precious, and sacrificing your whole life for a job that pays relatively well isn't always what matters after all. However, what makes this book truly worth reading is that the author never defines success for you; instead, he encourages you and provides strategies to define your own success, specifically what you will consider a win.
Wow! I could not put this book down, it really resonated with me on so many levels. And Talk about a sign from above. On June 9th, the day before this book was published, I put in my notice with my company of 16 years. I had realized that I no longer wanted to put my job before my husband and kids. However, I had started to worry that maybe I was making a big mistake? Leaving my career (and a great paycheck) while I’m still young? This book not only made me feel I have absolutely made the right decision but it ALSO provided me with clear steps I can take to feel more confident in my next chapter of life I’m beginning. One of my favorite books now. Thank you.
