Interstate transportation of stolen property calls for FBI intervention. Can the KCPD detective and the bureau agent break up the crime ring before anyone else is killed?
Detective Dean Cameron with the KCPD Property Crimes Department is investigating a rash of local business thefts. When the cases cross state lines, the FBI is brought into action. Dean welcomes sexy agent Matt Anderson’s help on the job, and before he’s decided if it’s a good idea, they wind up in bed. Sharing a desire that’s too hard to resist, the men fall into an intense physical relationship that both of them know can never last.
Impossible Relationships. Matt’s life is in Chicago and Dean’s in Kansas City. Neither of them want a long distance love affair, but Dean can’t imagine not pursuing one. He’s head over heels, but Matt isn’t quite as convinced. When their most recent case takes a turn towards the deadly, what they want doesn’t seem to matter anymore. Racing against the clock, Dean is desperate to save Matt and see what can be salvaged of their relationship.
Jenna Byrnes could use more cabinet space and more hours in a day. She’d fill the kitchen with gadgets her husband purchases off TV and let him cook for her to his heart’s content. She’d breeze through the days adding hours of sleep, and more time for writing the hot, erotic romance she loves to read.
Jenna thinks everyone deserves a happy ending, and loves to provide as many of those as possible to her gay, lesbian and hetero characters. Her favorite quote, from a pro-gay billboard, is “Be careful who you hate. It may be someone you love.”
I wish the love story in this one didn't feel so cheesy. The law enforcement portion and hurt/comfort were great! I'll review when I can catch up, but unfortunately can't recommend this one.
4.5 Stars I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads
I really liked Dean. He was well spoken, thoughtful, showed emotions, but was still tough. Matt, while I imagine many like him, I was not his biggest fan. I felt he was almost mean towards Dean. I really dislike people who are dismissive of others. I understand that Matt was protecting both himself and Dean, but I just couldn't get on board with how he decided to protect himself.
Matt was always pointing out to Dean how "clingy" or "crazy" he was being, but I thought that Matt was the more whiny of the two. Matt gave excuse after excuse, while Dean was trying to give solutions to the issues that they were having. While they were together, they were great. They were thorough lovers and the reader could see how much they cared for each other. But, once they were outside of the privacy of their bubble, Matt became this totally different character.
The crimes of this book, while not overtly bloody or gruesome did end up becoming much more dangerous. I really enjoyed the story line - it was one that held my interest and made me think. I always enjoy a good mystery.
Overall, I have enjoyed the couple of Byrnes books that I have read.
Reviewed by Brandilyn for Prism Book Alliance There are currently four stories in the Kansas City Heat series, though I suspect there are more coming if the name dropping of gay cops in the precinct is any indication. There is nothing wrong with this series, and I suspect it will be popular with people for a number of reasons. First of all is, of course, the HAWT sex scenes. In each story, the couple falls into bed together pretty readily. They aren't ever in it for more than a night or two, but in each case one night becomes two; two becomes three... Each night they are together is "full" of hot sex after hot encounter after hot encounter. It only takes one night for fucking to become "making love." Secondly, these are quick and easy reads. These aren't angst-fests. They are comfort-reads. Yes, there is a bit of the predictable tension, but they all resolve readily into nice little Happily Ever After bows. This being book three in the series I had hoped that the characters would have been more well developed.
Dean works for KCPD and while he is investigating the local business thefts he becomes partnered up with Matt from the FBI when the investigation and thefts cross state lines.
Yes these two men are attracted to one another but my problem is that Matt does not seem like the nicest guy. He kind of treats Dean like a play thing and I think that with the way Matt treated Dean that Dean should have had enough self respect to tell Matt to hit he road and not come back.
Don't get me wrong I like a book that has the couples that get together to have there issues before finally ending up happily ever after but I think there is a difference between issues and just being an out right jackass.
Regardless of this not being my favorite in the series so far I will keep reading and look forward to the next book.

This would have been a 4-Star from me, but I hate the whole "I'm clean" thing. As opposed to what? Dirty? So, if you're positive you're dirty? Choose a different word, perhaps negative? I'm allowed to take off a star for shit I don't like and I REALLY hate the term "clean" in regards to being negative.
I really wished these two would have TALKED more. It seemed like they only talked in bed and then once the real world came to life they hated each other :(
