The Assignment 1

Rate this book
Lacey Garner lives in New York. She is young and beautiful. She is a reporter for an important news magazine.

She has no idea about the assignment she is about to be given.

Her childhood was difficult. She grew up in a cheap motel with a mother who was a prostitute. Lacey struggles every day with the memory of the things she saw as a child. She wants to make a better life for herself.

The assignment she is about to begin will challenge everything Lacey knows about herself, and everything she thinks she learned from her childhood. This story takes her into a world of billionaires and wealth and shows her the heights that money can achieve, and the dangers that power, and powerful men, always bring.

Hi, my name is Abby. I hope you enjoy my exciting new romance and erotica stories.

I love stories about strong, female protagonists that give you a good character arc and background to the action as well as providing the steamy details of what they get up to. I am particularly attracted to themes like wife-swapping, voyeurism, exhibitionism, and public and group encounters.

I am thirty-years-old and live in the beautiful forests of rural Ontario, Canada, with my two dogs.

I hope you enjoy my stories. You are always welcome to contact me at: abby@type-writer.net

1 star.. it sounds like a terrible review to give. I think this book if it had been longer would have easily placed this a 3 star I can tell something is building and it would totally capture my attention. the book ends and its really not a cliff hanger.. you really just don't care about any of the characters.. it just falls flat.

#1 in the Assignment series of novellas

This is a dark book about the underside of the sex scene. Lacey is a journalist, having gotten herself away from her unhappy childhood and found a fair amount of success in NYC. But she still has huge self-esteem issues and finds herself seeking out humiliating and meaningless sexual encounters. When she is offered an undercover journalist job within the call girl industry, she decides to take it despite her personal misgivings. I found Lacey to be disturbingly lacking in confidence despite her beauty and talent. But she is still appealing, and the author does a good job of explaining her ambivalence about the power vs. helplessness of the sex trade. This book is the set-up for the risky assignment, leaving us in a cliffhanger just as she is about to begin. Unfortunately it appears that the next novellas were self-published and are no longer available, so I may never know what happens.

A young lady attempting to escape her past has landed a job at a prestigious magazine in New York City. She has left behind a mother who was a prostitute and who tried to save her by getting her to move out of where they lived and start on her on at an early age. Before that could occur she had already been turned out by a pimp at an early age. With her mother’s death there was nothing that held her there so she fled to NYC. Here she is befriended by an editor of the magazine and she lands a job that she hopes will help her truly escape her past.

She is lonely and her benefactor keeps fixing her up with different dates hopefully to help her find a boyfriend. One such date ends with running away but the next evening he invites himself over and uses her in a way that makes her wonder if she is not really a prostitute and not a magazine writer. She had used her charms to get him to make love to her but he used her and left as if she was a whore.

With this on her mind the managing editor of the magazine asks her to go undercover to investigate an exclusive men’s club in the city where some of the ruling politicians and high rollers are said to being using prostitutes for some off the wall pursuits. She knows she can handle the investigation but does she truly want to tempt her inner self by going back into prostitution, even for a brief time. Is she tempting fate by accepting the job?

This book ends with her first trip to the exclusive club. I look forward to the second in the series to see how it all comes out. Very good and interesting read.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. Another great beginning to a great story by Abby Weeks. Lacey is a journalist, she is trying to not turn out like her mom. Her mom was a whore and while they were living in a motel, Lacey saw more than any child should see. When she turned 16, her mom moved her into an apartment and got her a job as a waitress and that was the last time she saw her mom until her funeral. She did not want Lacey to be like her. Now Lacey is living in New York and has a great job working at The Pulse, a great magazine. When the assignment of her life is put in her lap. She is to pretend to be a call girl to infiltrate the Boy's Club and learn the secrets of this club. When she decides to take on the assignment, she finally tells herself that is about the job and not her being a whore. I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to read more and find out what happens to Lacey.

Not what I usually read so I thought it might be fun to try something different. This writer has you feeling sorry for Lacey and her lack of self confidence. Which makes Abby Weeks a good writer. What a bad childhood Lacey has overcome and now her boss has thrown her into the very thing she was trying to get away from. This story has some very disturbing scenes. I feel like these things really do go on but we just don't hear about them. Disappointed the book ended so soon. I must read the next one to see what happens to Lacey.

"If you want to leave the past behind you have to do it though your actions. You have to lay down in deeds, every single day, the person you want to be. If you want to be a courageous young woman, a woman in control of her life, who sets her own destiny, who writes her own story, then you have to do it one deed at a time, one difficult decision at a time. It's about the blood and sweat you're willing to spill, day after day." Lacey

There were a few bad reviews of this book and it gave me pause as to weather I wanted to spend the time (So little time so many books) but I read her twister rose saga and was impressed by the writing in that one so I thought what the heck give it a try. So this is only part 1 I don't actually know what happens for the first book is only setting the stage. A very long setup or tease what I like about this writer is she writes dark fiction life's underside, bikers, slaves, rapist, prostitution, etc. but she approaches the main characters the women as if they are undergoing a spiritual challenge. This writer knows all about exploitation, objectification of women, humiliation, and power transference, what she doesn't do is wallow in it create a story just to serve base male urges, and that is unusual in erotic storytelling where formula is usually predicable and the point of view is almost always male. Here we see Lacey a reporter with personal conflicts related to her past. The writer does not give us flashbacks or go into detail about Lacey's past beside a general outline that shows a difficult youth going up in poverty with a prostitute mother living in cheap hotels which ended up in her working for one of her mother's pimps. I suspect more backstory in part two will explain more about how a 16 year old prostitute came to become a New York magazine writer. One thing I didn't like so much about the first part of this saga was the reiteration of her fundamental conflict that she enjoys the power and control of her role in the sex games but rejects the abuse and the shame of the sex worker. This is what sets her books apart, it's what I enjoy about her characters that they have this depth in them but the repetition of this emotional conflict was a little boring after awhile (OK I get it lets move on) still wasn't bad a bit drawn out and slightly boring especially if you were expecting a lot of hot dirty sex maybe in the next part it's worth reading if you have time for a filler book but so far this one didn't totally gab me not as good as her twister rose series at least not yet.

DNF

Couldn't get through all the repetitiveness and slow-moving story. Could not finish this book. Also, sex does not equal an emotional connection. I wish writers across the line would stop perpetuating this myth.

Great story with character development

I like how Lacey is a down to earth, simple woman. She likes a manly man. A man who can assert himself. I like how when she was waiting for Ric she was thinking about having date at McDonald's with the maitre d'.

I love the character development in this story. You get the background of who Lacey never wanted to be. Knowing that her mother was a prostitute and that she was forced to do things that she didn't want to do you get to see the struggle going on in her mind. Is being a whore hereditary? Her mom instilled a mindset in her that helped her both positively and negatively. She gave her advice that helped her deal with people in her personal life and in the professional world.

You get to see how real this woman is. She is beautiful, social, and successful but all she sees is a whore. She is so hard on herself. Harder than anyone else is. She goes through thoughts and emotions a woman goes through on a daily basis. She is just a regular woman. To me is what most men want, a woman in the street and a freak in the sheets.

I love when she decides to take advice to live as the person she wants to be. It finally solidified for me when she finally stood up and became strong to make the decision to not be the woman Ric wanted to portray her to be. She is not just a slut to be used but a woman worth something. And I see that she is going to have more struggles trying to find out who she is. That's why I want to continue reading this story. I want more.

Cliffhanger series.
This is the first book I've read from this author and I don't think I will be reading anymore. I will not be reading the rest of this serial series. The writing was just ok. The story sounded good but it fell short. I really couldn't get into the character she was to weak and I didn't feel that sorry for her. she was dwelling in the past to much and how could she let Ric do what he did to her?

Overall I never got hooked on this story. Only reason I finished this book was for a reading challenge.

Boring read sorry to say. I would not recommend this book to anyone. It was a good concept but no follow through.

Don't even bother with this one

Don't even bother with this one

if you like cheap sex novels this is for you, I personally don't and thought this book was disgusting from the first few pages. Plus being short, which maybe these type of books are. The last chapter only begins the next sexual setting so I suppose one needs to purchase the next book, and so on. I will stick with my murder mysteries.

After picking up a free copy on Amazon, I didn't really know what to expect. It is kind of along the lines of 50 Shades of Grey stories that are pretty abundant around now, but it was a decent fast read. The main character is likable and the story-line is interesting. The rest of the series would be interesting to read if only for the story-line of this underground "Club" and who are involved in it and why.

Personally, I believe this book is bad in sooo many levels.

What is up with her and Ric? You just could not do that >:( Where is your digniiittyyy??

Also, with the job. I just don't get it. Why do you have to sacrifice yourself just for the assignment? Reporters may go undercover and all that but that was just too much. And that thing with the dog... too disgusting that I can't even mention it here. Also, I do not want to spoil it to others :p lol

A journalist with a rocky childhood is given the opportunity to join an escort service that caters to a club full of the most rich and powerful people in the hopes of discovering the biggest story of her life.
This book is merely setting the scene and if you want to read more you have to buy the rest in the series. Not a fan of writers doing it this way. It didn't blow me away so I'm unlikely to pay for the rest of the set.

Intriguing Read

The Assignment - A Call Girl's Fantasy, Book One in a trilogy got off to a bit of a sluggish start, but ended in a doozie of a cliffhanger.
Lacey is a bit of a sad creature who is struggling to figure out who she is and doubts her self-worth. Her assignment through the magazine she reports for is quite intriguing, unnerving and potentially dangerous. I am anxious to get book two so I can see where this adventure takes her.

Review of The Assignment 1

The book started out ok enough but the turn it took was a complete surprise to me. It was a bit too dark for me even though it left me curious as to what will happen to lacey in dealing with her pass. am curious to know how she dealt with that sort of humiliation and how she overcame it.

Wow! Abby Weeks create has a way with words. This erotic fiction is not for the faint of heart. I personally thought this book had a great story line and was only disappointed by the abrupt ending which certainly left me wanted to read "the rest of the story". Abby Weeks is a talented writer and I would recommend her for adult minds only!

A well written story of a young woman who has worked her way from an abusive childhood to a respected journalist. She is faced with writing a story by going undercover that could bring her great acclaim or throw her back into the darkness of her past.
This is the first of a series of four books. I look forward to reading the next book of the series.

This was a nice quick read. To know what goes through someone's mind when they are put that predicament is interesting. The fact that men can be so cruel is disturbing. It was well written and I can't wait for the second one.

So I like a lot of this author's work. I can skip past some of the parts, but why in the world beastiality needed to be added is beyond me. I will NOT be reading any more of this series. I really think Abby Weeks is better than that! Truly disappointed!
