Awwwwww what a fluffy book!

It's a book that makes me smile like an idiot. However.......

1. Plots are too thin. It's not a plot-driven or character-driven novel. Very ordinary highland romance, which I do not mind if done right. It's perfect for my "simple-minded" times.
2. No idea what happened to the villain. Not that I want to see pages after pages of the villain but the major conflict between the lead characters is connected to the villain. It was as if he conveniently dropped off the face of the earth so that Robert and Alwin can have a happily ever after. How considerate!
3. Robert turned really assholey for about 10 pages. I was shocked! This was quickly fixed and I understand the book needed a dramatic turn of events. It resolved quickly and nicely but I was just.......wow.......wtf man!?

The 250 page length is perfect. I know it is a really simple book with 2 lovable characters in a difficult situation. The romance is really sweet, the struggle just light enough for you to disregard it. Nothing new or outstanding in this book, but now I can go to bed with a dreamy (aka idiotic) smile on my face. :D

A very ordinary Highlander story. A lot of inner dialogue and as I have read a lot of Highlander books this to me was just average. Not bad though but not excellent either.

I’m 15% in and I hate Robert. He’s annoying as hell. He kidnaps her and expects her to just get on with the Stockholm syndrome. Can’t stand bad heroes so if this doesn’t improve by 25% I’m dnf

Wow 😲 I’m a lucky girl! I can’t believe how much I love this book and I’m so glad I found it.My search for the perfect medieval romance finally succeeded. I won’t spoil here no chance. This is by far the best written Highlander romance I’ve read this year. The H Robert more than 5 stars worth and nope I’m not spoiling him read for your self. The h Alwin is just kick ass of a girl! She’s great and not taking any shit from any men around her I love this kind of heroines in my books. But no spoilers here too ;-)). The most Highlander Warriors book begin dangerous promising and adventurous with a long ride through the beautiful and dangerous lands of Scotland. This part is always thrilling and glues you to every word and page and when the party reaches their destination most the home castle of the Heroes somewhere at 50% in the books the story changes and goes down by unnecessary drama and gets boring. Buuuuuuuuut not here in this story not with Robert and Alwin. It gets better and better. At 50 % we get the real romance here beautiful and sweet written by the author. So for all medieval romance lovers out there, read this book and you’ll not be disappointed I promise. Don’t get fooled by the low ratings pls best do not read them.Just go blind like I did.

Loved It
Wow, I was surprised there were so many 1&2star reviews. Personally, I loved it! It’s by no means perfect, but of the 140 books (all historical romance) I read last year it still stands out several months later. I really liked Robert! His icy exterior and inner heat is exactly how I like my heroes. Alwin was strong-willed and determined, I liked her a lot. The plot was fantastic, full of angst and drama.
I don’t think this book is for everyone. It is not for historical sticklers, there are quite a few inaccuracies. It is not for anyone looking for anything more than a diverting and fun romance. This is not Outlander level romance writing, it’s light and easy. It is not for anyone who is honestly sick of Highlander Romances, it is too similar to all the others to not piss you off.
I have read every book published by Emma Prince, she is one of my favorite authors. She is consistent in her writing ability, usually earning 4-5 stars from me This is my favorite of the Sinclair Brothers series. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-5/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5

Highlander's Ransom is my first book by Emma Prince and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed reading this lighthearted sexy HR.

The story starts with Laird Robert Sinclair raiding and capturing his arch enemy Raef Warren cargo. Too Roberts surprise inside of one of the wagons is Raef's betroth the beautiful English Lady Alwin. Alwin's father has been very mean an harsh with her and he wants her out of his way.

The romance that builds between Robert and Alwin was surpisingly good. My problem was Robert was a real butt head at times. He marries Alwin without her knowing they are being married. He has the Priest do the marriage vows in Gaelic. Once Alwin and he are at his castle in Roslin she is readly excepted by his clan, but Robert is still bent on exchanging Alwin for a ransom.

The story was interesting and kept me entertained. This storyline has been done many times over but it was still fun to read.

An absolute delight!

What an awesome beginning to the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy! I was in awe of this fast paced, dramatic adventure. Filled sensual tension, danger, adventure, suspense and the romance that is medieval Scotland. Well written with engaging characters and an intriguing storyline. The love scenes are hot and steamy and only adds to the complexity of the story. I can hardly wait for the next installment. Well done, Ms.Prince!! I would highly recommend this title for your reading pleasure!!

I actually really enjoyed this book. I believe this is the first book I've read by this author and I immediately downloaded the 2nd book in this series, hopefully I like it as much as this one. Good plot and character development. Could have used more secondary character work but overall I'm happy

I'm approximately half-way through this book and the historical inaccuracies are *glaring*.

THAT BEING SAID, I'm reasonably certain that anyone downloading this book is not reading highland romance novels for their appropriate use of the word "Sassenach" or out of some sort of personal appreciation for medieval Gaelic wedding customs.

For a Kindle Unlimited offering, this story is perfectly adequate - the characters are tropey and stereotypical for the genre but hold a certain amount of interest, and the smut scenes are fairly well-written. To be honest, this is precisely the sort of thing I was looking for - mindless, cozy, and entirely unstressful.

Great book

I found this book hard to put down. My only issue was I found a lot of terms used during our age that they never would have used. I Found that deterred you from the story line.

>Book Review – Highlander’s Ransom

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the first in the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy and ends in an HEA. Robert is a laird bent on revenge. He spends the next few years causing havoc at the borderlands for a particular English enemy. Attacking what Robert thinks is a supply wagon; he comes across the Englishman’s betrothed and kidnaps her for ransom.

>Alwin has been promised to a man she’d never met. Her father is very abusive towards her, so she is actually looking forward to leaving her home. When she is kidnapped, I love how she never really gives in. She keeps fighting as I would think a real kidnap victim would. Robert is attracted to her moxi and decides to marry her for her dowry and fake ransom.

>Alwin realizes that her marriage to Robert is much safer than her arranged marriage to the Englishman, who is as cruel as her father. The scenes where Alwin forgets herself and helps those around her were as eye opening for the reader as they were for Robert, who comes to love her.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 5 stars. The book has a lot of action, romance and humor. The humor as Alwin is wed and oblivious to the fact is so funny. Highlander fans will not be disappointed with this book.

I really enjoyed this book. Nothing like a sexy highlander in a kilt :D I blame Diana Gabaldon for some of my reading preferences. I believe this is Emma Prince's first book and part of a trilogy. Look forward to reading the next one. The only real complaint I have about this book is that some of the editing is not as tight as it might have been, there were several typos/misspellings in the book but otherwise an enjoyable yarn.

It made me feel anger, frustration and feels in all the right places. (No I am not being naughty) The passion between Robert and Alwin was hot. It was graphic in it's wording, but not overly so as to make you blush. (Lol, I guess that depends on your shock threshold) Alwyn was feisty, although maybe she gave into Robert a little too quickly after him tricking her into marriage, but then she had little choice considering the time period this was set in. Might as well try and make a life with the sexy Scotsman rather than the sadistic bastard her father had set up for her. (Could think of worse fates, lol)

While I enjoyed the story, and liked the H/h, the historical inaccuracies are abundant enough to keep taking me out of the story. It lost a full star. Some examples of what I mean............

this is the early 14th century, they were using trenchers of day old bread, NOT plates. They did not use forks but cut and ate with small knives or their hands. (lack of hygiene world folks). The author used to many modern words, such Allison the heroine was thinking to herself and she could not "compute" what was going on? Compute, seriously? There are enough mistake in grammar and spelling to be annoying. If none of this is a problem then you should enjoy this. I still plan on reading the next two, there are secondary characters I want to read about and I got them free via kindle unlimited.

Highland adventures are my favorite type of historical romance books and I have read many. This author has potential, if she only pays more attention to the details.

Enjoyable Highland romance

My heart went out to Alwin for the lack of love she had suffered from her own father growing up. Alwin had a fiery spirit and was a survivor and I loved that about her. Robert was everything I could have hoped for in a man for her but I found myself being frustrated with him as much as Alwin for the way he disregarded her feelings. I understood that he thought he was doing what was best for his clan at the time but my heart broke for Alwin because of the betrayal she felt at his actions especially the moment Raef Warren's reply to his ransom note came. Happily Robert didn't take long to come to his senses which redeemed him in my eyes. Even with my frustration at Robert, I still tremendously enjoyed this Highland romance.

A riveting tale of a Highland laird who fights for Scotland's independence by attacking the English in the Lowlands and gathering intelligence for The Bruce. When he attacks what he thinks is an escorted English supply contingent, he instead finds the wagon is carrying the bride-to-be of enemy responsible for a battle on his own lands, against his own clan. He is forced to capture her and plans to ransom her back, but as they return north to the highlands, he makes some shocking changes to his plans for the Lady.

This a new author for me and I must say I am happy to have discovered this series. It's a well written story with a developed storyline and interesting characters. Scottish history fans will enjoy this tale of romance and adventure.

Just bought this book, and I couldn't put it down! The writing was great, there was lots of action/adventure, and of course good steamy parts. ;-)

The combo of sexy alpha Highland hero and sensitive but strong heroine is my favorite--throw in a kidnapping and what could be better?! I also loved how both Robert and Alwin grew and evolved over the course of the book. There is instant sexual tension between them, but they have to overcome both their circumstances and let go of their own baggage. By the end they have a deeper love and partnership. Plus, the ending sets up the next book in the series, which I can't wait for! I'm so glad to have found a new favorite author!

I enjoyed reading the smooth prose of HR. No surplus of dripping adjectives, no plethora of mordant adverbs, just nice clear writing. What wasn't clear was the hero's motive for leaving his clan leaderless for nearly four, as I recall, years. What was he about and why? His motive - revenge against one man who brought ruin to his 'doorstep' and impoverished his clan - which really seemed to be doing quite well - seemed a bit weak and more than a bit self-serving, an ego trip. The heroine OTOH was a woman who'd been kidnapped and was making the best of it. I didn't like some of the extras such as Sally? I think, the housekeeper who was far too in your face to be other than annoying.

This is a a hard won romance about Laird Robert Sinclair who is out for revenge. Lord Raef Warren is an English Noble bound and determined to cause a big war between Scotland and England. A man without honor.

Lady Alwin Hewett is being sent to Lord Warren to marry to make and alliance between him and her father but is kidnapped along the was by Laird Sinclair who plans to use her what ever way he has to to get Warren.

Broken hearts, evil, betrayal and love all wrapped up in a great story of back when Robert The Bruce was still fighting as the King of Scotland.

Pretty good!

A little confused over one paragraph where she was looking into the clans history. Called them Saxon and Norse. With a French relative. That would be Norman. No Celt? Just confused. Otherwise pretty good story. Easy read. Great characters. Looking forward to the next one.

Quite a series beginning

This tale involves the eldest of the Sinclair brothers. They are fighting the English who are trying to take over their lands. Robert on a secret mission to find out any news concerning another breakout of war, comes across a lone cargo being delivered to one of the English ringleaders.. Surprise it contains a lady who is betrothed to this leader.
