Murder Extraordinary

A particularly gritty murder suspense story with a lot of twist and turns. A great plot with unforgettable characters whom you might believe you'd see in the headlines. I didn't read this author's bio, but am not surprised he's former law enforcement. A well written story I would recommend to those you like mysteries with a big dose of reality, some humour, and a pAge turning ride!

Great series!!

Thoroughly enjoying the Alphabet Series, quirky characters, suspensful, romance and some laugh out loud moments. What's not to like. Detective Kate Sexton is a detective in Hollywood, assisting in hunting a murderer called the Artist. Kate is also being stalked by her father's killer. Plenty of action in this one, with a twist I didn't see coming. Highly recommend!

The element I loved about this story is suspense. The intense unpredictability of the twisting plot is the main strength that will make the reader (like me) hooked with the book till the end. Compact storyline and picturesque scenes made this book a pleasing and fast read. Definitely recommendable this one I can say. Thank you.

Why I gave the rating I did.

I would have to say that I gave this book such a high rating because of the believable characters and plot line. The thing I liked best about it was not everyone got his or her happily ever after. I think crime fiction and thrillers need to keep that in mind. Not everyone is going to be happy in the end.

Best yet.

While Kate’s sidekicks are funny, this was the first of the series to really have developed characters, plot and dialogue. Very much enjoyed this one and plan to keep on with the series!

I'm happy to have finally found this series. It offers an entertaining respite in reading. It offers a fun cast of characters, great location, and some interesting mystery elements. Kate Sexton makes a great foil for her crazy roommates. Hope the series doesn't lose its momentum!

Emotional ups and downs.

Kate's life seems to get on track only to be kicked back down. Working two hard core murder cases at the same time. One for the LAPD and one for the FBI.

Kate has her father's killer after her so she is pulled off the street and sent to the FBI to help hunt for a serial killer. Will she help to find the killer and how about the man after her?

Hollywood Enemy by M.Z. Kelly is the fifth installment of the Hollywood Alphabet Series. Though part of a series, the book could easily stand on its own, but having prior experience with Kelly’s work will enhance your understanding of Kate and her friends. I personally have only read this installment and had no trouble picking up on the characters and relationships.

Hollywood Enemy follows the heroine, Kate, who is a detective on the Hollywood Police Force. Kate has her hands full with not one, but two, mysteries to solve. She is up against a bizarre and demented serial killer who is targeting wholesome young women in the name of art. As if that weren’t enough, she is also being stalked by the man who killed her father. Each chapter contains some new twist or action scene. The ending of the story may surprise you.

Kate does an admirable job of maintaining her sanity throughout all the plot twists. However, the double-mystery plotline does cause some confusion as the story progresses. At times, it feels as if each individual case she is working isn’t given the attention it deserves. There is just so much going on that the personal moments in Kate’s life seem glossed over and we don’t get to experience her personality or life on a deep level. Personally, I would rather have seen a deeper connection created between the characters and skipped the excessive sexual humor and wisecracks that pervade the book.

Still, Kate herself is a likable and interesting heroine. She is surprisingly normal compared to her wild and crazy roommates and her new case partner, Joe. Only in a book could a man like Joe exist, as he is an insulting, obnoxious, stubborn FBI agent. His creative name-calling was distracting, rather than amusing.

All in all, Hollywood Enemy is a book that makes an interesting light read, in spite of having a few idiosyncrasies that hold the book back from being a well-written mystery. I wouldn’t give the book my highest rating, yet I also think it deserves a read. Enjoy!

Have you enjoyed the Hollywood Alphabet Series by MZ Kelly??? Then Hollywood Enemy is another Masterpiece by Mr. Kelly. If you’ve never read a book in the series, you can’t go wrong with this one or any of the previous ones either. MZ has a knack for writing a true gumshoe novel, with a sprinkle of LOL humor.

While the humor is not as intense in this novel, you will still smile at what Kate’s roommates Mo & Nat think up during this adventure. Hollywood Enemy centers more on Kate and her life. ‘Enemy ties up a few loose ends that have been developing through the Alphabet Series in a thrilling conclusion, with a surprise or two.

MZ likes his humor in his novels, which is why I like reading them. But MZ has some deep thoughts about life which he has incorporated into this novel, which makes reading that much more enjoyable. We are the Dance, not the Dancer, will probably stick with me for a while. Wondering what I’m talking about, well you’ll just have to read Hollywood Enemy to find out. You will not be disappointed.

This was better than the last story, as there wasn't as much contribution from the roommates in this story. I also liked the introduction of the abrasive FBI agent, and feel he will become an interesting recurring character. I do feel that she author underused a perfectly good character by killing him off before fully developing him - I have read one of the later books and understand how the story pans out, but do feel disappointed.
Another thing which is starting to annoy as well is this author's continued misuse of the words "discrete" -which means separate - and "discreet" - which means careful or cautious. For those people who know the difference, rather than just thinking it is a spelling mistake, it is very annoying!

REALLY WANTED TO DO 3 ½ *stars
THIS IS THE 5TH BOOK I’VE READ IN THIS SERIES. I KEEP SAYING I’M NOT GOING TO READ ANOTHER ONE AND HERE I GO ONCE AGAIN. IT’S NOT A BAD READ BUT ALL THE CRAZY CHARACTERS REALLY GRATES ON MY NERVES, TOO MANY OF THEM. WELL THE ZANY GROUP OF MISFITS HAVEN’T CHANGED A WHOLE LOT. I DID FIND THIS BOOK MORE ENJOYABLE BECAUSE THE ZANY ANTICS OF THE CHARACTERS WERE TONED DOWN A WHOLE LOT IN THIS ONE. I DID LIKE THAT, HAD MORE PLOT (pretty good storyline) TO IT BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN SHORTER, TOO DRAWN OUT AND REPETATIVE. I DIDN’T CARE FOR THE ENDING AND I WONDERED WHERE THE NEXT BOOK IS HEADED. I WON’T SAY I WON’T READ ANOTHER, NEVER SAY NEVER. ;D

''Hollywood Enemy' was pretty full of suspense, action, drama, mystery. Humor and thrilling events. I loved it. This series keeps getting better. I loved the storyline. It had so much going on, but not in a confusing way. This was definitely an emotional ride for Kate. Her character is awesome. I love the array of the other quite colorful personalities that play a part in the story. Well written and well executed. A must add to your tbr list. I can't wait to read the next book. A recommended read.

It has been a very long time when a book is so intense that I holler out loud, exclaim joy and sadness, cry until my head hurts, and laugh out loud with a deep belly laugh and this book did it in spades. The shocks and twists were so unexpected that I barely could put the book down to tend to my responsibilities in real life. As part of the series or stand alone this is a tome not to be missed and should be read by anyone that likes a combination of the strange and the witty.

HOLLYWOOD ENEMY!

I believe that Hollywood Enemy is my favorite of MZ Kelly's Alphabet Series. I pulls everything together from the previous books in the series. Fast paced, a little scary and also heartwarming! I believe that everyone will love this one as much as I have. I missed dinner last night because I was so engrossed in this book! Thanks again, Mack!

I couldn't put this down.

This book had everything in it that I liked about crime stories. A very relatable main character, and very surprising twists and turns. I also enjoyed that I couldn't figure out the twists before they happened. I laughed and cried while reading this and I definitely recommend it for any crime lover.

This is the fifth book in the Kate Sexton series. Light reading who-dun-it with ongoing themes. I enjoy the things Kate says but then says she didn't say. Initially, the extraneous characters who end up being her roommates were fun. But now I find them tedious and off putting. Still muddling my way through the series, since I enjoy the easy reading.
