This short story was great. I loved the Norse elements. I am really interested in knowing more about this world of Wildings. The heroine was really cool. Kim is a wildlife expert, very sassy and smart. She is a ranger studying a huge wolf. The wolf has been sighted crossing the continental US from the East Coast to where she is on the West Coast. Kim is so enthralled by the wolf that she wishes for a man as wonderful compared to other men as the wolf is compared to other wolves. Happily, she gets her wish. The hero, a special kind of wolf shifter, had lost himself into his wolf form. Apparently, that sometimes happens, but they don't normally ever regain their ability to be human again. We get his point of view to see what it is like for him to recover his humanity, which I have never read in any other shifter book. And it is wonderful! I loved this very original wolf shifter romance. There is some action, an immediate attraction of fated mates and some hot sex. Really well written.
Lacked so,etching for me... The way A217 came back from the "Wilding" so fast didn't match the flow of the story in the beginning... And Kimberly was just a weakling... She didn't put up any fight... It would have been nice to have seen some aggression and desire from the ranger supervisor for her also...
Not really sure where to start from this book when it was a short stories and is a favorite genre of mine: Paranormal.
I hadn't really read any of the first book in the series and probably that is why I have no grasp of the world building and story flow. The idea for the story and the plot seemed interesting but sadly the book felt rushed and everything was underdeveloped. The couple's relationship was not well developed for us to understand the wilding.
I see great potential in the book if it was handled correctly and if the characters were developed well. The heroine was just unbelievable.
This silly author made me cry. I was as worried as Kim about her losing her wolf. She was a biologist in the woods of California tasked with writing a report on wolf #217. Instead she found herself fantasizing about the wolf that held her fascination. Kim's fantasies came to life in a very sensual and entertaining short story. I will be day dreaming about this story for a long time. Great story. Great author. Well deserved five stars.
This story left you with more questions than satisfaction, but was a very enjoyable story none the less. I hope Ms. Masten will return and flesh this story out.
Aaaaaaaaaa... I really like it but I wish I could give it two 1/2 stars instead...
Aaaaaaaaaa... I really like it but I wish I could give it two 1/2 stars instead... I'm soo damn sick of the Hesse short stories that suck you in and just as its really, really getting good it ends... I call BS!! Ok,I'm an Artist not a writer but you don't 1/2 finish a story and then call The End.... Damn!!! Lonely, single, slightly affection starved BBW starts to kinda fantasize are a beautiful huge alpha wolf being the man of her dreams and then guess what ? He is.... But just as they've barely, and I do mean barely gotten together ? It ends ... Just ends in what has to be a HFN ending.... Coz I don't know about you but chasing a bear away, passing out for a day and a 1/2, then loving her up once and "mating" her then barely getting out the door to start a new life together before calling The End, I don't call the complete .... I've said it to myself,I've said in reviews and to friends but just because it's a short story doesn't mean it has to be an incomplete story... I just read "Demon Song" by Decadent Kane, 9 pages, that damn thing was just 9 damn pages but you know what ? It felt like a 100% more complete than this story , it was sweet and beautiful and you didn't want it to end but because it was soo beautiful and moving not because it felt like it ended before the story was finished....
The Aesir Shifters series by Erika Masten is an awesome series so far, and this is no exception. I loved the characters and, even though it's a short story, I loved the story as well. Erika is a fantastic writer and I've loved everything I've read by her, so far. I am a fan of paranormal and shifter books, and Erika's Aesir series is one of my favorites. This short story is definitely worth the buy!
Really too short to be anything worth while. Romance was way too fast to actually be believable. If it was longer and the execution of the story handled better it would have been a really great book.
I enjoyed the whole instant attraction and destined mate aspect of the story but would have loved to see the characters developed more. I'd love to know what awaits them in New England.
