The ones who know her call her Ana, the ones who pity her call her the King's poor orphan, but for the ones who fear her call her Darkstar. The King's royal assassin. Ana Whitlock doesn’t remember the day she stopped being a child. She doesn't have a clue how her mother died other than what Penelope told her. Only the scars that followed. Raised in silence and violence by a king who called it mercy, she became the assassin the King created with no past, no future. Just moments in between but can those moments be enough? Can she just be enough? Ana's world fractures. The voice in her nightmares grows louder. Worse still, a stranger haunts her sleep. He appears in silver eyes, hands like fire and smoke, a presence both terrifying and tender. Ana doesn’t know him—but he knows her. Deeply. Eternally. He is the deity of sleep, a forgotten god bound to her soul long before she belonged to any crown. A blood bond made by an eternal love she no longer remembers. As Ana uncovers truths buried beneath lies, she must decide who she really the weapon forged in a king’s hand… or the woman the world tried to erase. One thing is certain—gods don’t stay silent forever. And monsters don’t always wear masks. For fans of Throne of Glass, Powerless, Fourth Wing, and Sleep Token, Anastasia is a haunting, character-driven fantasy with a pulse of rebellion beneath the mask.
I really wanted to love this book. It was entertaining enough for me to finish, but I think some of the writing was a little challenging to follow at times. Will continue to series, but was a little disappointed.
I found this book on tiktok and decided to pick it up because she mentioned it not having a HEA. I liked this book but often found myself confused and unsure what was going on. I feel like its on purpose? but I couldn't say for sure. I plan to continue with the series to decide how I feel about it.
