High school is difficult for most kids. But for Kayano, a shy girl whose single mother seems to work all the time, it's even worse than usual. She's so afraid of drawing attention to herself, in fact, that she can't tell the handsome Kamijo how much she loves him#151;until one day she finally gets up the courage to write him a letter confessing her feelings. But her plans go awry when the letter falls into the hands of the school's most notorious student, Edogawa Takeru. To Kayano, Takeru seems to be Satan himself. Not only is he devilishly handsome, he is the son of the school's principal. Even the teachers dare not stand up to him. Kayano, appalled by how badly her first attempt at a social life has gone, thinks she can struggle through, and get her letter back. But, Takeru enjoys watching her suffer. Just when she thinks she's solved the problem, her mother comes home to announce she's getting married#151;to principal Edogawa! Now Kayano will have to live with this devil Takeru 24/7!
Aw man, I really thought that since the characters told each other about their feelings early on (within a couple volumes) that we would get to see more of their relationship…. But no. It’s just endless drama. I don’t even get why these two like each other??? Sure, the attraction is there and “opposites attract” but do they have any common interests? Besides basketball? Can we see them talk to each other about something other than the current drama???
Again, a typical story with typical characters. Not bad, it's worth the read, but wasn't worth the love I held onto all of these years either. But I've grown, and I've watched manga grow, since this was originally released.
Blargh...I have mixed feelings about Rumi. On one hand, I hate her. No matter how unknowingly, she's coming between Takeru and Kayano. She's being way too persistant when it's obvious Takeru doesn't like her. The first time they met, he flat out rejected her, but thanks to a talk with Kayano, she ended up transfering schools and hopes to get Takeru to accept her. I just wanted her to go away and stop causing problems for Kayano. However, another part of me feels bad for her. Takeru has been pretty harsh towards her, though he had good reasons and didn't want to get her hopes up for their arranged marriage. I really really want to fully hate Rumi, but I can't because she seems like such a nice girl. Unlike, some manga's love rivals, Rumi isn't overtly bitchy and she doesn't act cruely to anyone. Part of you can't blame Rumi for upsetting Kayano. Rumi is honestly oblivious that Takeru already has someone he likes. It's not her fault that no one's told her that Takeru has a girlfriend.
It will be interesting to see how things will unfold with this love square haha. I can sympathize with Rumi, but I still dislike Shin. I don't care if he's Kayano's dad's friend/student or whatever. I don't want something to happen between him and Kayano...
It's been a long time since I last read this series, but I'm going to try and pick up where I left off. Understandably, I'm a bit lost. I remember that Kayano and Takeru are secretly "dating," and it has to be a secret because their parents are getting married. What I don't really remember, though, is anything about the supporting characters.
The main frustration in this volume lies with the appearance of apparent "rivals" for each one's affections. Clearly, Takeru has no interest in Rumi, the girl his dad wants him to marry, and Kayano has no interest in Shin, the man she once had an idol-like crush on. But neither is secure enough in the other's feelings to not feel threatened. Thus, they keep going in mostly-silent agony, with a secret hug or kiss every once in a while. Not a very satisfying way to live. I hope they can tell people soon, for all of our sakes.
Confessing to the person you like is never easy, having the attention seeking Edogawa Tekeru know who you like is even worse. Kayano thought high school was going to be hard enough but take on running errands for Takeru and it is almost unbearable especially when their parents are getting married and they have to move in with one another.
I loved the storyline development and growth of the characters. This is a series that I was really excited about reading. The romance does not start at the beginning but it grows stronger because of everything the couple has to overcome and go through. Kayano is a lovable personality and even though most people do not like Takeru in the beginning, he grows on you too.
