Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Ugh. Maka is getting increasingly more and more annoying lately. How many inner monologues do we need to go through with her going "Oh, I'm not good enough for Soul/strong enough for Soul/brave enough for Soul/etc. etc. etc." and then "No! What is wrong with me? Soul and I need to work together/I need to be strong for Soul/I need to be brave for Soul!" before she just STFU on the issue and stops playing these games? It's really obnoxious. I really liked Maka in the beginning because she was a pretty strong female lead... but it's like before every big battle now, she has to have this little inner battle with herself, and it's starting to get really old really fast.
The rest of the volume was pretty boring. And I was bummed the battle between Black Star and Kid didn't even start, as promised by last volume's preview. Oh well. I have something to look forward to next volume.
Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.
Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.
Guh, I was glad for this one to end! The gender stereotypes in this one really bothered me; this volume felt particularly misogynistic and crude at times. Still, I totally laughed out loud when I saw who the adversary in the wrath chapter turned out to be. I'm looking forward to getting back to the plain old fighting in the next volume though...
Maka and Black Star really steal this volume as the characters make their way through the Book of Eibon. Kid has certainly started to change so I’m interested to see how he turns out.
le principe de devoir passer par les 7 péchés capitaux pour atteindre son objectif, j'adore. maintenant est ce qu'on était obligé d'exposer des gamins de 14 piges a la luxure de cette manière?
Soul Eater, Vol. 18 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next four chapters (73–76) of the on-going manga series.
The Spartoi keep their way through the Book of Eibon looking for Death the Kid who was consumed in Madness by the Great Old One. The Index informs the Spartoi that the more they spend their journey inside the book gender-switched, the more perverted they become.
After passing by the Lust and Gluttony chapters, Maka Albarn and Soul Evans, who find their own genders again, are separated from the Spartoi and are trapped in the Envy chapter – where Maka Albarn is being tortured, questioning her partnership with Soul Evans. They venture into the Sloth chapter, where they have to fight Giriko, while the rest of the Spartoi are in the Wrath and Pride chapters facing a guest.
Meanwhile in the Greed chapter, the Spartoi find their genders again with the exception of Tsubaki, who was the last one to do so and Black Star finds himself face to face with Death the Kid.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. The tankōbon continues the rescue mission of Death the Kid from the Book of Eibon and the team is quickly divided. It mainly focuses on the journey of Maka Albarn and Soul Evans through the book and the insecurities that Maka Albarn has with her partner Soul Evans, who has become a Death Scythe and became very popular with his classmates.
All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 18 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
So the group is stuck in lust and it's hilarious. After blair, being turned into a dude, helps them out with the demon of that chapter, a woman, they find out that the last one to change back to their original gender is deemed the horniest. Which is again hilarious.
They go to gluttony where there's food everywhere and they have to fight a demon pig. Instead of the pig eating them, they eat the pig. 🤷♀️ They do need to get out of there before they go insane so next stop envy.
Maka and soul accidently get separated from the rest and have to deal with their own envy. Maka has to face the girls that want soul as his partner and not thinking she's good enough. Soul deals with his brother who is an acclaimed violinist and wanting to get away from his family.
The rest of spartoi go through the rest of the chapters, with a special appearance from the excalibur which was funny, until they hit greed and tsubaki is the last one to change back into a girl. Black star gets invited by kid to battle him, alone.
Maka and soul get to sloth where Maka tells soul to leave her since she feels unworthy of being his meister. Before they can really talk giriko is waiting for them. They battle him and they think they defeated him but turns out giriko created a new body, a woman this time, and giriko's old body was just another golem.
The changing genders was obvious fun and it was good character development for Maka and soul to address their own mental hangup for lack of better words.
Onto the next book.

I can't wait to see if Black-Star will be able to help Kid. It was one of the funniest mangas in this series I can't wait to read more, the ending is very intriguing.
J'ai hâte de voir si Black-Star sera en mesure de venir en aide à Kid. C'était l'un des mangas les plus drôle de cette série J'ai hâte de lire la suite, la fin est très intrigante.
The idea of having to go through the seven deadly sins can open a world of possibilities for character development and creative designs for characters like seeing them get over their pride or having to overcame anger issues in Wrath but they are mostly used for comedy like having everyone change genders in lust or eating food in gluttony. The only exception is envy where Maka and Soul are faced with their short comings has these two characters are complete opposites and Maka is forced to see her own weaknesses and I wished the other sins were like this as it is good character development.
This was another build up volume for a big fight. This time, it's between Black Star and Kid. Since Kid has been infected by madness, I'm anticipating a dirty fight that'll shake Black Star up a bit. I did enjoy seeing Soul and Maka get a confidence booster after being targeted in the Envy chapter. Soul still hasn't come to terms with his dark thoughts but Maka seems to have worked past hers. Here's hoping they can defeat their enemy (who's name escapes me).
I've given a 4-star rating to every other volume in the series so far, but this one gets knocked down to 3 because of a particularly vile scene with the chainsaw-leg guy. There's still lots of cool ideas, and the art remains wonderful, but that unfortunate scene gets lodged in the mind as a particularly gross misstep.
black star is growing on me more fsssss he has def grown up which was much needed. AND NOW HES THE SOLE ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BRING KID BACK BE SO FR RN!!!!!! AHHH. I also like how the book chapters are the 7 deadly sins how fun
Pretty awesome series, I love most of the main characters! The story’s alright but still very enjoyable tho I think I prefer the anime much more😁👌⚔️📖❤️
Compared to the last few volumes, this one just wasn't quite as good. The fights and conflicts just felt a little repetitive. But I'm certainly ready for the next volume!
