A step back

I found myself instantly put off by the ploy the author contrived to move this murder mystery foreword. Shades of the Outlander series, one I had tired of after the first book. But she managed to pull it off that course and save it through history and character development. However, she left two threads dangling. What happened to Anne during the incident? And who bashed Kitty? Coming close to killing her?

An okay read.

It was an okay book but the repetitions were onerous. We know Marlowe and Emma banter to show their love. We know Robert loves Kitty. One fifth of the book went over ground already covered.

A Book So Good

Before I knew it, I was already half way through the book. The story grabs you at the first chapter and doesn’t let go until you’ve finished! Ms. Alexander ‘s prose is pure magic!

This is the 13th book in the Kitty Worthington series and the first to include dual timelines: one in 1666 and one in 1925. I found the historical description of the 1666 timeline fascinating and appreciated the description of a person who has suffered a head injury and the long road back.

When an owner of an antique store is murdered, Kitty is hired by his widow to find the murderer. When she is attacked during her investigation, she seems to travel back into the past while in a coma, collecting clues to lead her to a solution, making the novel doubly historical in setting. Her usual group of family and friends help her to successfully find the killer.

I adore this series, but I have to admit I was hesitant to read this one. Suddenly introducing time travel to a series that isn't sci-fi is an unexpected choice. However, I enjoyed the historical plot so much that I loved this book anyways! There are actually two storylines. The murder of an antiques dealer in the present and the plot to kill the queen in the past. I was invested in both stories, and the historical one was especially exciting. Even though I love the usual cast of characters in these books, it was nice to have the new ones from 1666 as well. The time traveling definitely had me scared but I'm happy to say that Magda Alexander made it work! A Murder on London Bridge was a lot of fun, and I think most fans of the series will enjoy it!

Kitty Goes SciFi

My family has shorthand to describe a SciFi movie or book. Either it’s Superman which means there is no real explanation, ie, the sun is yellow or Star Trek, take the most up to date scientific research terminology and scramble it to make craziness seem reasonable. Both work as long the reader is willing to go along for the ride. Kitty’s story is definitely a Superman. The only explanation for her time travel is someone hit her over the head. So this is a very odd 1920’s cozy mystery sandwich with a trip to Restoration England as the filling. Kitty actually has a client who isn’t a family member (I think that’s a big plus). If you’ve been following her adventures, you’ll enjoy the ride just don’t expect it to make sense.

When they host their first dinner party thee guests include an antiquarian bookseller, Mr. Merton, and his wife, as well as most of their family and friends. Mr. Merton is very excited about an old manuscript from the reign of Charles II that he recently discovered. He plans to hold an auction but is murdered before he can do so. Kitty begins investigating, but when she is hit on the head she somehow finds herself back in the year 1666 as a member of the royal court, where she must help save the queen from her enemies. How she achieves this and returns to her own time and solves that mystery as well makes this book hard to put down.

If you look past the vocabulary used by people in the 1666 element of the book (people back then spoke a much older version of the language than that spoken by people in 1925), then the book is actually quite enjoyable. After all, how many of us would say no to travelling back in time; and to solve a mystery as well! The vocabulary issues aside I still find Kitty's stubbornness to be less than endearing. She does what she wants with no thought for how it effects others, especially her loved ones. As I said this is not an endearing trait. It simply shows a selfishness and total disregard for the feelings of those around her.

So very implausible

This is the most implausible book of the series with a silly plot and solution. A young aristocrat woman in 1925 who visits a man, in his home, on her own. Omg. It wouldn’t have happened without consequences to her reputation, or worse. And then when she goes back in time - they spoke differently back then for starters so communication would have been very difficult. And no one in 1925 would have seriously believed her story either. And it beggars belief how all the men in her life, in 1925, respect her and let her gallivant around London and do as she pleases. The stuff of fairy tales and nonsense.

Justice finally served

This book is definitely different from others in the series and I’ll be honest I was a bit wary about the time travel aspect. As I read through I couldn’t help but be transported along with Kitty and be a witness to history as she played her role within in it. It was daring and wonderfully all encompassing. I enjoyed the blend of the two centuries and how the plot was laid out. It was very clever and delightfully intriguing. How lovely that a Hollingsworth is a Hollingsworth in any century. History comes alive within these pages as our intrepid sleuth rallies to justice across time and space. A can’t miss read!

This one was interesting. Not only did we have our regular investigation, but a fun dream escape into the past. Leading to an interesting story without going to off base on what the theme of the books have been. It was a fun adventure and seeing Catherine so passionate about an investigation shows how lucky she is to have built the life she has. She has so many loved ones surrounding her. Even having to move to a bigger property because her business is booming so well .

I’m eager to see what the next adventure holds. I’m trying to catch up before the next book is published next month. It’s releasing just after my birthday. As always, I loved the story.

Time travel

I've read every book in this series, and I really liked the time travel bit, I was hoping Kitty would go back again to see how everything worked out, but we did find out in the end. Could you imagine going back in time and meeting an ancestor of one of your friends and working together to stop a murder or just getting to know them. That would be fascinating. After Kitty wakes up she uses what she learned back in time to help solve the murder, with the help of her friends. I'm really looking forward to the next book.

I’ve been enjoying this mystery series but found the time travel element was unnecessary. Plus, if Kitty is smart enough to solve all these mysteries, she should have learned by now (this is the 13th book!!) not to be caught out alone. It may have been useful as a way to explain the time travel, but it’s ridiculous that a smart woman would repeatedly make the same mistake.

Disappointing

These books started off great but the last two have been dire! This one ,which has Kitty knocked on the head and dreaming of going back in time then returning with information to solve the case,is beyond ridiculous! Also the author needs to stop making coffee the main beverage! Tea was the most common back then in the UK! More research needs done on British traditions! We certainly don't call Autumn the fall!

Intriguing

I enjoyed it though I am not a fan of time travelling. Some things were left unexplained but it was enjoyable . I will surely want to read more about Kitty Worthington and the rest of the group.

Great reading another Kitty Worthington novel. I love this series and this latest story did not disappoint. Catherine and Robert are 2 of my favorite characters. I also especially like Hollingsworth. So glad to see him back. And Edmund. I might have fallen in love. LOL

Fantastic Read!!!!!!

I truly enjoyed this book. The time travel portion really enhanced the telling of the story. I enjoy the dynamic of the group of characters. As the series goes along they grow and make the stories better. I can’t wait for the next in the series.
